Cool place to visit when visiting Madison basically by college ave. Good deals by getting $5 a slice they have some different combinations some good some questioning ones. I got the Penne Alfredo 6/10, could have gone for a regular tomato and basil. Would have tasted better. Surprisingly, my husband never tried Ian's, so we had to stop by when we were in town recently. Happy we did! We stopped on a Sunday afternoon while walking around and grabbed a slice of pepperoni before we ventured out. The space was fairly clean, including the bathroom. Plenty of space to sit and even space to look out at the sidewalks and watch pedestrians meander. There's not much to the menu but they have some good options (pizza, salad, sticks). You choose your par baked slice and they pop it in the oven to finish it up for you. They also have plenty of drink options, including tap beer/cider if you need more than soda. I was there on the Lent week to have their fish fry pizza. They introduce this pizza only for the week of Lent every year. It was just ok. I think it was tilapia fish. You can't beat the late night pizza. We grabbed two pizzas for four people (we were ravenous). I have found this Ian's Pizza to be a little less reliable than its companion down State Street. These pizzas took an HOUR to get out to us. I may be spoiled with their usual freaky fast service but that seems crazy! They did compensate with a bag of puppy chow, but alas it take more than that to satiate my tummy grumbles. It's a lot smaller and maybe less family friendly oriented than the State street location. Iconic. This is not just for after the bars. This is excellent for strolling the streets of Madison in the middle of the day. I need to give a shout out to a particular speciality flavor -- the CRAB RANGOON! Crab Rangoons are my guilty pleasure appetizer and placed on a pizza -- absolutely delicious! Ian's Pizza got this flavor to a T! The crust is consistent every time - perfect thickness and toasted to a nice crunch. I usually don't eat the crust, but Ian's is an exception for me, especially when I have the ranch! The cream cheese sauce mixture with some green onions and chunks of crab -- just yum! I devour the slice in minutes. The crunchiness of the wonton crisps is the real star. Whatever flavor slice you get, the ranch always compliments it. When I can wait to eat the slice for me to get home, I'll add some sweet & sour drizzle and voila! Exact resemblance of a crab rangoon. I also want to give Ian's a shoutout for trying to reduce waste on their pizza boxes. I never knew you could bring it back to reuse and get a sticker on your pizza card. Just amazing! read more

This time around I went with cheese! The as Dave would say, it's a little floppy! No cheese pull, but still tastes great! They have some other great pizzas to choose from. The BBQ chicken is amazing and classic pepperoni. They have a Mac and cheese one that I am too afraid to try! They are quick and have great service. I am a very picky when it comes to pizza, I am very biased and love Ian's pizza because it reminds me of the pizza back home on the East Coast. The staff at the Lake Street is amazing, the only issue I have is the order system. I ordered my pizza and went to pick it up but the ticket never printed. But I can't complain because the lady gave me money off my order. I do wish there was delivery but I am still ok with driving there. Their pizza are pretty unique and it's hard to find another pizzeria that have mac and cheese as their toping. The very cheap prices is also a huge plus. If you do not know what to get because of their variety then the staff will gladly help you pick out a slice of pizza to your preferences. If you do go here then expect it to be loud compared to other pizzerias. It's a known college hangout so many students come here for a quick bite or chill with friends so it's almost always lively, except on academic holidays of course. Great place to grab pizza from. Worst day of my life. Ian's Pizza Sunday night manager was a complete dipshit. First, I ask for a small cup and fill it with Peach Powerade, to my chagrin when I was forced to pay $3 for a 4 oz cup of juice. Behind us in the restaurant was a unhoused fella who sat without food and drank from the soda machine as well without being charged. The gall of this guy. Upon getting home I realize my 3 breadstick deal did not have the 2 sauces it comes with, and my coupon card was hole punched for one slice, and not the two slices ordered plus breadsticks. What's the difference between the superficial owner of this place, and a night when girls pretend to be scary but actually just wear almost nothing? One is Halloween, the other is Shallowian. What to get: Spinach Feta slice What not ot get: Feta and feta because you ate too much pizza I had heard all about Ian's Pizza and had been told about it, but in the end it's really just a good standard College Pizza. Not spectacular by any means. The chicken barbecue slice was nothing special at all - although it wasn't bad. The pepperoni slice was better, although it had nothing on the pepperoni available in places like Buffalo and Detroit. And it was really really really really greasy. Which isn't usually a bad thing, but the taste needs to at least match the grease level to make it worth it. However the winner was the feta and spinach sliced. It was the one which the cute girl working here told me to get - although it's not as popular as the others, she said it was her personal favourite. Well she has good taste because this slice was excellent. In fact good enough for me to give it 5 Stars except for the rather ridiculous pricing of $4 for a slice. Which is the reason I'm keeping it at 4. It's just about 5-star pizza if you get the right slice. Most slices are 4-star or less. And the pricing is just too much. Buffalo and Detroit slices are 10x as good and half the price. A couple of bonus things are that the crust is really hard and delicious, which really makes the pizza, rather the basic crap bread. It's cooked well and to perfection unlike a lot of the soggy bread you find around the country. A second point is that a lot of pretty girls come here for slices. It's an awesome place to flirt and people watch. But if someone stares deep into your eyes and won't stop, they're not people watching. They're "Pupil watching." And you should remind them to retina sense of decency and not do that anymore. Iris people would listen to advice, but they don't. read more

The last two times I attended Ian's pizza by the Slice the bottom of my mac and cheese pizza was burnt to a crisp. It was black and charred and not golden brown like a pizza should be. When I went to take my first bite the sound that was emitted was loud and crunchy. Although I still did enjoy the pizza. This morning when I awoke I realized I did not finish the crust and I decided to take a small bite but it was quite difficult because it was rock solid. Pizza crust should last for at least two days. I love my morning after pizza crust. In conclusion, I would still visit Ian's pizza again but if my mac and cheese pizza is burnt one more time it's the last straw. read more

I used to work across the street from this location and was there the first day it opened. I have been back to Ian's many times since. There isn't much seating inside but the place is clean and their pizza travels well to-go. It's easy to pop in, get a quick slice and bring it back to my work. Plus, when you can buy by the slice it's quite affordable! My favorite thing about Ian's is the unique flavors of pizza. Nowadays most pizza places offer "unusual" toppings but that has always been the standard at Ian's. My favorite pizza there is the Macaroni and Cheese pizza which is packed with flavor. Crab Rangoon flavor, Buffalo Chicken, and many other flavors are so good I bet I could eat a whole pizza. Often I'd go and get a few slices to go, so I could have something different for dinner, too. read more

I came here for dinner last week with a bunch of sorority sisters as we were in town for our national convention. I would rank this higher if I had been able to try the pizza but in order to get a gluten free pizza slice, you had to order an entire pizza which was more then I was hungry for. There are a bunch of huge salads that you can either customize or have made per the recipe. These for the most part are gluten free. I went with a salad because I was able to get it gluten free. I had the southwestern chicken salad. It was quite good though there was a bit much of the corn in it. The pizza slices that my sisters had looked really good. I can definitely see why you only order a slice or tek when coming here. The flavor combinations sounded quite good. It would have been nice to have this option in the gluten free variety but I can understand that they probably don't sell enough gluten free to make it worth their while. I'm also not entirely sure that the gluten free pizzas are premade or made as you order as I did not order one or see anyone else order one. The posted menu barely had anything stating that they had gluten free pizza. I was in town for travel so I will most likely not be back. There are other options out there to fill my gluten free pizza cravings. read more

Yes it might be where drunk young students stumble in at night after a rowdy time at the bar to fill their bellies with some decent pizza. Maybe a can of soda to help it go down in the most delightful way. On the way here all I heard about from my friends was their ever so popular "Mac&Cheese" pizza. I mean with this much reputation sitting on a slice of pizza. I was a bit skeptical, but sure enough, the Mac&Cheese pizza is the truth. I would most definitely order that again next time I'm here.
