Someone wrote it wasowned by a Japanese couple but actually they are Korean. I had a little issue communicating with the man who takes the orders. They had shrimp tempura and vegetable tempura. I asked him if the shrimp tempura came with vegetables and he said look at the picture pointing to the window. The window picture clearly shows shrimp and vegetables so I ordered it. We'll when I got the order it was only shrimp (6 pieces). I ate it though and it was good. The also had two sauces so I thought the smaller one was for the salad, wrong. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our sushi dinner together while I was visiting during parents' weekend at UCLA. The staff are very welcoming, the sushi was plentiful, and one of the chefs took notice of us watching how he prepares the fresh orange wedges: with an extra order on the house. You can sit right next to the chefs while you eat inside, and there are tables outside as well. Genuine and lively, Bong Teriyaki is a great find south of campus. This isn't my first pick for Asian food, but Bong Teriyaki does an alright job. It's located extremely close to me, which is why I found myself trying it out a little bit ago. The prices are pretty fair, though I wish everything cost a dollar or two less. From my experience, this place is a little slow with takeout orders. I ordered 2 two choice combos plates (chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu & chicken teriyaki and beef teriyaki) when I was the only customer in the place and waited for probably 20-25 minutes. The chicken was pretty mediocre. It was chewy and tasted a little overcooked. I'd give it a 2 out of 5. My boyfriend's chicken katsu was also overcooked and dried out. So why the 3 out of 5 stars? The beef teriyaki I had redeemed this place. It reminded me of authentic Korean BBQ beef. It was tender and nicely soaked up their teriyaki sauce. My recommendation? The customer service is great, the food is perfect and the location is better. I like to have an early dinner before I leave for classes at pcc, this spot is fantastic cause they prepare my food quickly, I can call in the order, grab it and hop on the bus right outside and have my classmates jealous of my food. I recommend the sweet and sour chicken but, that's just my favorite. I got to try the skewered chicken today, they were grilling it out front. I'm sort of a nervous person when it comes to Food borne illness, and I've never gotten sick from their food unlike some other places *cough* panda... I've brought friends here, we got to eat outside, that was nice. And like I said, we can walk here. I live in the nopo area and love the various places in the neighborhood. This has become one of my top 5, partly cause of the distance but also, the menus is pretty great. There's quiet music, usually hip hop. I've seen this place in passing a thousand times going to work and wasn't sure how good the place was and thought to stop by a couple days ago. I ordered their beef/yakisoba combo plate with a side of fried spring roll and a drink. A total of $15, $18 with tip for one person. Sorry , if I didn't post photos, but the breakdown is this....75% noodles, 15% meat, and 10% vegetable....I mean really...two pieces of broccoli and scattered pieces of cabbage in a $9 combo, please, have some variation. Not to mention, all I tasted was sodium in their food. The fried spring rolls were obviously frozen cooked perfectly on the outside and mushy/doughy in the inside. Either, lower frying heat or cook to order. The ONLY reason I give 2 stars for this place is the service. The service WAS good. I just wish N. Portland and ALL of Portland offered a Mongolian-type place where you filled your own bowl with veggies, filler, and meat for them to cook...at least, then, you knew what you got/paid for and not settle what they gave you.... read more

The chicken skewers are great, never burnt and the specials are great. If you're s spicy dish person, there's more than a few of those. If you're more like me then you'd prefer something like their sweet and sour chicken, teriyaki yakakisoba or something with a hit of rooster. Today (Friday) they're grilling outside. Its great. I have to admit, I'm a sucker for getting to smell good being cooked. So that's why we stopped. The people are friendly, hard working and polite. The place is obviously kept clean, yay! The servings are more than fair for the price, and if you want to eat outside, they're happy to bring tables and chairs outside. This is a solid go to. I had a big combo so I could get a good cross section... Ribs-nice and tender, could use a little "char" Chicken also tender, and not over sauced...extra teriyaki on the side to add. Rice was just how I like it...sticky bit.not gluey. Yakisoba tasted marvellous, buy noodles were stuck together on a clump. Veggies were perfectly steamed, yet plain...just fine. Nice neat place. And the staff was very cordial. I will certainly be returning especially since it's in the hood. Solid...the 3 star rating is very respectable. I struggle with star ratings a lot, mostly because they're so subjective. I tend to rate on my overall experience which is also subjective to my dining preferences...a food cart will never get 5 stars because service is part of my review. read more

I really enjoy Bong Teriyaki (and its predecessor - which I think had the same owners?). I've probably been there 7-8 times now and have found the take-out service to be fast, the prices reasonable, and the food tasty. Our usual go-tos are the Yakisoba with Beef/Chicken, the Orange Chicken, or the Sweet and Sour Chicken. All are solid, generous portions, and consistently prepared. read more

It's clean enough on the inside to not scare anyone away. The prices are reasonable. But the portions are a bit on the small side compared to the competition. The flavor is ok. Nothing to brag about. I can say that my salad greens were my favorite. It might have been just luck of the draw, but I got mostly the heart of iceberg lettuce. However I think the salad dressing was non existent. The rice was cooked to perfection, but again not enough sauce to flavor it up. My teriyaki sauce was the smallest plastic Togo cup possible. I could have asked for more but I was a Togo order. Bag was tied up tight and I couldn't see the contents. I won't be going back for any of the reasons you might be thinking, I won't be going back because I've tried the competition. My advice to the owner is to check out Du's Teriyaki. I don't want this to seem like a complaint, but I feel like it might come off a bit "bitchy". Bottom line is... Du's has raised the bar for Portland teriyaki. read more
