These previous reviews are more than a little misleading. I ordered delivery, and don't want to say it was terrible because it wasn't. But sushi is about precision, which Kabuki seems to have forgone completely. The sushi rice's flavor was nowhere near right, and it was sloppily formed around the fish. The fish quality was okayyy, but they use so much of it here that the proportions are just completely off. One positive, in terms of quantity for price, it is an absolute steal. I think I got 4 rolls (of varying complexity/quality) for about $30. It's probably closer to 3.5 stars, but these over hyped reviews needed to be counterbalanced. Give it a shot, if you are looking for several pounds of alright fish on the cheap, but not for what I would consider a quality sushi night. read more

The portions its true is very big slabs of sushi at a reasonable price. Went here recently and had a pleasant dining experience. Friendly staff was fast to take our orders and get us drinks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decorations were very neat and unique. They had some vintage posters with Asian art and cultural symbols.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got the gyoza dumplings and they were good, the dough was a little dry but it was still enjoyable. Amazing options and the most generous sushi portions I've seen in Portland. They are very reasonably priced, especially considering the pieces of fish that they serve. This restaurant is a hidden gem!! They have amazing food and really good prices. The waitress took our orders quickly and brought out free salads + edamame. Kabuki makes the dressing in house, and it was so good! The miso soup and our main meals were great too! It only cost $19 for two people, which is so much cheaper than most other Portland sushi restaurants. I would definitely recommend checking out this local business!! read more

Still going here, still amazed. I had to get out of my groove and try the hot dishes. WOW! Had I been sleeping on something great. The steak and chicken teriyaki bento is outstanding and well worth the modest price. I also tried my fiancé's salmon and it was also fantastic. If you are in St. John's and want sushi, or teppanyaki style food, this place is a solid choice. The spicy tuna could have been a bit spicier but would be perfect for someone who doesn't like spice. This may not be high end perfectly curated sushi, but it also doesn't carry the high end price tag. This is the perfect hole in the wall. This was my second visit, this time for lunch with my boyfriend. We both got the bento boxes, he had the salmon, and I had the chicken. The chicken was good, but I realized I prefer teriyaki to be a bit sweeter, which is probably just my Western taste. We also got rolls, he had the rainbow roll, and I went with the spicy tuna roll, which was great, especially for the price. The prices here really can't be beat, and it's such a solid option for affordable sushi. My boyfriend thought his salmon was a little overcooked and didn't sit well with him (he has a sensitive stomach), but I didn't have any issues. First time trying this place as it's close to my work place, here is my personal opinion. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place was clean, decorations were Japanese vibe, and the temperature a bit cold for me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Cost was reasonable (Happy Hour was Noon to 4pm, and they let us have that pricing on Friday at 12:30pm). The menu said Happy Hour was only Saturday and Sunday. Food quality was good. Now the downsides for me...for me it was like Japanese with a Chinese fusion. From the Miso Soup, the rice, salad, to the bento....everything was Japanese but somehow Chinese. One of the boxes in the bento was Rice, not Japanese way. House tea was good. Sitting down, small salad was served free as well as a bowl of edamame.....nice touch. Sushi rolls were nice size and satisfying, great prices especially on the Happy Hour menu, and quality of fish was good. I did not have any nigiri, so comment there. I recommend trying the rolls! [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you want authentic Japanese experience, this is not the place for you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely worth trying for the rolls and make your own opinion as the price was reasonable. All I have to say is the food is absolutely delicious. This area needed a restaurant that has proper sushi, and now we have it. The salmon was melt in your mouth and the Lion King roll was decadent and sooooo good! Also, the teriyaki bento box had so much variety and was also excellent. This place is super yummy. They have a happy hour I didn't know about because I always do pick up. Pick up, door dash or dine in- ive done it all and it's always good. Today I got the Oregon roll and the Seahawk roll. I always get a spicy tuna roll (minced spicy tuna with avacado and some kind of crunchy/crispy garlic piece in the middle). They were fabulous.. I feel like im living in an alternative universe with these reviews. The sushi quality is just not there. All of our rolls, even the special rolls, were chopped, mushed up fish on the inside and not actual cuts of fish. The salmon was unnaturally pink. If you are looking for even decent quality sushi, I would probably pass. read more
