Best bakery! Not too sweet, homemade & always fresh. $1.50 - $3/each Gran tongs & a tray, make tour selections & head to the counter to pay. You'll be back.

Decided to stop here to check out this grocery store since they have almost a five star rating. The ambiance of the place was like stepping into Mexico. I went to the bakery case right away to check out the goodies. Wanted to ask the cashier how much the baked goodies were but none of them seem to speak English. Then I walk around the premise seeing all the unique products. The store has a food counter that seem to be very popular. You can order to take out or dine in. I went through the line and ordered their street tacos. Two different kind one with beef and another with pork. It happens to be Tuesday that I went in. Tacos with beef were $1.50 each. They were quite good and authentic. Definitely recommend stopping here and giving them a try.

Mexican food served up fresh buffet style. Everything from tacos to tamales, burritos, quesadillas.... they have something for you! Love that you can add topings and sauces yourself after you pay. Ample seating area even on a very busy Saturday night. Beer available as well. Before or after you eat you can checkout the on site store for groceries, fresh baked items or household goods.

This place is always my to go tacos. It is located inside Mexican market. They have varieties of tacos meat, bowl and soup. The food is very authentic. Staff don't speak much English, but they can follow body language. Tacos used to be $1, but now it's $2+, still affordable comparing to other places. The amount of meat is generous and the quality is unchanged.

Anyone that gives this less than 5 stars is a liar or went on a day that was busy idk, if you want to feel like you're in Oaxaca city come here. I can't wait to go back and try everything else I'm gonna be honest I can't remember what I all got but that spring onion was amazing. I didn't get to trying the jalapeño but can't wait to chop that up and put it in my eggs for breakfast. Highly recommend. -Nicholas

There are two locations, but I have been frequenting the location in Olathe, KS! They are located in a grocery store, so you can get your food fix, get a Tropicana ice cream bar, and other grocery goods all in one place! The store also offers meat in bulk and also has bakery goods! I usually go for taco Tuesday where the tacos are $1.50 each! You pick what meat you want, and they get topped with chopped cilantro mixed with onions. Then there's a small bar with sauces and more toppings. The meat and all the toppings are delicious they also offer other dishes and combos such as tamales and tortes with sides of rice and beans. Definitely check them out if you're in the area!

This is the sister store to the Minnesota Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, location. Like that store, it's part grocery store, butcher and in house taco / Mexican diner. I'm going to focus on the tacos because that's more of my specialty. You line up cafeteria style and once you're up to the front of the line you tell them whether you're eating in or taking your meal to go. Next you let them know how many tacos you want (or if you're buying one of the featured dishes.) Then you choose your meat and whether you want onions and cilantro. Last, but not least, you pick out your drink. If you're dining in, there's a sauce bar (Beware of the orange sauce. It's flaming hot.) If not, ask the front counter for some sauce to go. The food is exquisite, reasonably priced and surprisingly filling. Like I said above, the tacos are more my specialty, but if you like to cook and you're cooking a specialized Mexican recipe with certain ingredients and / or spices, there's a good chance they're here. The staff is super friendly and happy to help if you have any questions.

Flat out told the crew here that my husband prefers their cooking to mine. It's darn near impossible to get him to try a new place because he's got carne asada on the brain more often than not. I found that I don't get tired of coming if I alternate between the flautas and the plato de carne (we really just think of it as the street taco value meal... Just use the included tortillas to make your own tacos and you'll have rice and beans on the side to round it all out, much better value than buying tacos a la cart.) Do try the habanero pickled red onions, the green sauce, and the Pico from the salsa bar. And green apple Fanta is divine. Trust me.

I love coming here and getting a plate full of tacos and talking with the staff. One of the friendliest places I've ever been. Everyone here treats you like family, and chats you up even if they don't know you well. I've had some great soups, tacos, a bunch of things. I have my preference towards the tacos. Everyone here is great. What a cool place.

The pizza guy gave us some good intel on what to get and not get, and our pies were made perfectly and brought out hot to us. The bakery has a great selection of freshly made cookies, cakes and other fun items and they were all reasonably priced. I had a peanut butter explosion and the other ladies had some fun frosted sugar cookies. For me the cookies were too crumbly but they loved them. The reason for 3 stars was lack of customer service. I had to go to the front to get cups for soft drinks. The woman I approached didn't say 1 word to me when I told her what I needed. She just walked away to a register where she rang in my purchase. It would have been nice had she said, "follow me," or "I can help you with that." But i figured out what she was doing and paid at the register and then told her I had a problem. She said, "what?" with an irritated tone. I told her I needed the cups I had just paid for. Again, she walked away from me, apparently expecting me to follow her, and I did. Then she asked another employee to hand me the cups. The other woman did that and I thanked her. The cashier who rang up our few groceries was pleasant and the bagger actually joked with me, so at least I had that as I was leaving.

Located in a very strategic location in Olathe, Hen House has most of the items you want in a much…read moresmaller facility than their competitors. That said, I think most will find Hen House offers a trade off as most can get in and out a little more quickly in a smaller store while they don't get bombarded with items other than groceries however their in-house crafted food options are less diverse. Addressing the in-house made foods, I find them above average compared to other grocery stores. While I would opt away from premade pasta dishes as they tend to overcook their pasta and anything fried as sitting for a long time means they get soggy, the rest of their food is pretty good. The chicken cordon blue rolls are really good, their pies, especially the silk chocolate pie are heavenly! Oh, as with almost all grocery stores, avoid sushi as the rice crystalizes as it sits and the temperature comes down. Sushi rice needs to be warm as it juxtaposes the coldness from the fish. I mean, it's better than not having sushi but I've never been happy with getting sushi then eating at home and being happy, much less satisfied. In other words, use the right tool for the job (ie call a sushi restaurant). As for groceries they have a somewhat diverse selection other than produce. For instance, the mushroom selection isn't great. Also, they don't have 50 different apples to select from however they do have enough to satisfy the vast majority of families. As for exotic foods such as Dragonfruit, Buddha fingers, watermelon radish and star fruit, it's a hit or miss if they carry them at all. Now I've never seen any bad produce such as moldy fruit hiding in the back. They take great care in rotating their stock. Also, they have a pretty good salad bar there which I use to use a LOT. My overall assessment of Hen House is it works well for its target group, middle class Kansas families looking for good prices on food that is pretty standard with having some "elegances" spread out enough to allow those who are adventurous to try something new. The shelves are well stocked, the environment clean and safe, and the people are very friendly. The prices are the competitive but I find them a smidge higher than the larger grocery stores. Hen House is a great grocery store if it's close by and you're in a rush.

We…read moreshop here several times a week and have generally trusted the pricing and customer service, which made this situation even more frustrating. A loaf of Brioche bread was clearly marked at $5 on the display stand, but it rang up at $7 at checkout. When we questioned it, the clerk went back, took a photo of the display and explained that the sign was only meant to "draw attention" and was not actually the price for that bread. That explanation made little sense, especially since the bread on the display appeared to be the same product. My wife later called and spoke with the manager, Kelly, regarding what we viewed as false or misleading advertising. Unfortunately, the response was dismissive and unapologetic. Rather than acknowledging the confusion or offering to make it right, the pricing display was defended by claiming the marked price applied to bread on the other side of the stand. What concerns me most is how many customers likely never notice these discrepancies. We only caught it by chance, and I suspect many others simply pay the higher amount without realizing it. After being longtime loyal customers, this experience and the lack of accountability have caused us to reconsider shopping here. Leadership should be aware of how situations like this are handled because customer loyalty can disappear quickly when trust is lost.

Ok as a former chef and one who likes to entertain, I frequent the grocery store, a lot. In…read moreaddition, I've also lived all over the US, specifically the Midwest and east coast. What that has shown me, specifically in Kansas and Texas is that the grocery stores can be HUGE. In fact many go well beyond and have a multifaceted food court within them. I'm not talking about a sandwich shop and premade cooked chicken, I'm talking full service and different themed restaurants. That's where my review of Hy-Vee will begin. Now people should realize with all conveniences come drawbacks. Hy-Vee is huge, probably the largest freestanding grocery store I've been to in Kansas (sorry Texas has you beat). I will say as someone that has family from Cleveland and remaining a fan I could do without all the Chiefs and Royals gear. I mean it's annoying! Red everywhere. Ok, seriously I do respect the team pride, I'm just tired of seeing that. BTW, that's not part of my review just my irritation creeping out. What I do like is sometimes their events spill out into the parking lot; events like a huge Chiefs BBQ party, which tells me Hy-Vee likes to do special things for the community. Ok now I'd like to make my observations about food. The Asian grill is actually really good! If you nab it straight off of the flattop it's better than two Chinese restaurants around it, which shall remain nameless. I never tried the city market, Italian place, coffee store or the BBQ food but the point is, the offering is there. To be fair Hy-Vee is trying to be a one-stop shop type of center, which the tradeoff ends up being quality for convenience. In other words if I compare Hy-Vee Asian to a free standing unit, there's no comparison but if I've got a lot to get and can grab some free fried rice at Hy-Vee it's right there. As for groceries they have a rather large and diverse selection other than produce. The mushroom selection is great. Want to pick up some woodear, loose shiitake, Oyster, Enoki, etc? I really appreciate the fact I can grab my own 'shrooms rather than be limited to a prepacked assortment. Next, they do have a lot of good exotic foods to pick from. Dragonfruit, Buddha fingers, watermelon radish and star fruit are a few items you'll find here but not at smaller grocery stores. The same goes for fresh meats at the butcher and fish from the monger. My overall assessment of Hy-Vee is it works well for its target group, middle class Kansas families looking for good prices on food that is pretty standard with having some "elegances" spread out enough to allow those who are adventurous to try something new. The shelves are well stocked, the environment clean and safe, and house made items such as breads, tortillas, soups, etc are very well crafted. Finally the prices are the best in town, an advantage of being in bulk. Hy-Vee is a great grocery store for the masses!

I wish it was around when I was living in the area. I would definitely be a regular customer! I visited on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, and the store was organized, neat, and easy to navigate, which was a lovely start. I had two main items on my mission: grabbing the Back to Nature Peanut Butter Creme Crackers (a snack I became obsessed with after a trip to New York!) and picking up a specific protein powder for my mom, which was on a great Buy One, Get One 50% Off deal. However, the real highlight was the service, thanks to Dahlia, a head cashier employee who stopped to help us. Dahlia was incredibly kind and went above and beyond. She walked us through the free rewards program, explaining not only how to find coupons but also detailing a huge deal: if you buy $100 or more in health & beauty products (including that protein powder!) within a three-month span, you will be able to get 30% off your next purchase. She explained that the purchases history for this deal resets after the three months are up. She even took the time to offer personalized recommendations, sharing her own experience with thinning and oily hair and suggesting specific shampoo and conditioner products for me to try. After Dahlia helped me with the rewards sign-up, I checked out with a different cashier. This cashier was also super nice; she knew I was setting up the account and proactively made sure I either entered my phone number or had my rewards barcode scanned before I paid, guaranteeing I got my points for that trip. The service didn't end there! I had a $3 off coupon for the protein powder that wouldn't go through due to the store's poor cell service/Wi-Fi connection. Dahlia, without hesitation, simply gave me $3 back in cash to honor the coupon deal--that is truly above and beyond customer service. I highly recommend this location! The product selection is great, and the atmosphere is pleasant, but the staff--especially Dahlia--is what makes this store shine.
