I recently tried Bonney's Burgers for the first time. I was excited because I enjoy trying local mom-and-pop burger joints--the kind of places that serve good, old-fashioned burgers. The woman working at the counter was very friendly, and the restaurant itself was exactly what I had hoped for: a small, local burger spot with plenty of character. I ordered a double Bonney Burger with pepper jack cheese, along with fries, fry sauce, and an unsweetened iced tea. I didn't have to wait very long, and the food smelled great when it arrived. The first thing I noticed, however, was that the burger looked a little bare. I couldn't see any cheese, condiments, or sauce; it mostly looked like two patties between a bun. Of course, appearances can be deceiving, so I took a bite. The patties themselves were delicious, but the burger was extremely dry. I couldn't taste any condiments or sauce, and I barely noticed the cheese. I kept eating because toppings are sometimes concentrated toward the middle or back of a burger, but it remained mostly the same throughout. I eventually tasted the pepper jack, but because I had ordered a double burger, I assumed it would come with two slices of cheese. Apparently, it only comes with one, so that was my mistake for assuming. I could have asked for extra sauce halfway through, but I also feel that a burger shouldn't require additional sauce just to keep it from being dry--unless, of course, that is how someone prefers it. The fries were nicely salted, although they were crinkle-cut, which happens to be my least favorite type of fry. There was nothing wrong with them; that is simply a personal preference. I should have asked beforehand because I probably would have ordered something else had I known. The fry sauce was delicious, but the small container wasn't quite enough for all the fries, so I ended up using ketchup for the rest, which I don't normally do. Overall, I gave Bonney's Burgers three out of five stars. I don't feel that they necessarily did anything wrong or served bad food. Much of my rating comes down to personal preference. I like a juicy, flavorful burger with plenty of condiments, and this one was simply WAY too dry for me. I know people who prefer burgers on the drier side, so perhaps that is what their regular clientele enjoys. I will definitely return because I always give local businesses a second chance. read more

Wow! Driving from El Cerrito to Ashland. Decided to stop for a quick burger . Glad the first place I stopped at was closed because I fell in love with the owner Keoli and his wife. Super friendly. I had a yummy Western burger with tater tots and coke. Ended up staying over an hour visiting with them. Didn't take pics just devoured my lunch. It's a bit of a drive but worth it to get a much better burger than the crazy prices that Burger King and McDonald's are charging for these days! Went here for the very first time today and was so impressed. The people were so nice and we got burgers, sandwiches, fries, onion rings, sodas, and ice creams for about 60$ the food was really good and honestly there was so much. They gave us extra sauce too, and were updating us as we waited for the food, they seem like really genuine people and from what we saw on the walls look like they give a lot back to the community! read more

Out of the way burger joint, that has been there since like 1976. I've been in the Redding area since 2010, but just visited last week b/c I just found them on-line and was looking for a burger restaurant I haven't been too. Got the Guac Burger Basket! Tasty burger and good fries--the fries were cooked correctly--I would get it again. Next visit though, I want to try their onion rings and a shake. Worth the short drive to Olinda/Happy Valley as it's a very nice, wide open, rural part of Shasta County. No frills service, just a very nice couple running the business. I was told there was a great burger place just outside of town. I'm a bit late with this review, but better late than never. You travel maybe 10 minutes off the 5 freeway. It's easy to find. It looks like a old timey burger joint. The menu is pretty standard, burgers fries and shakes and drinks. We got a couple of cheese burgers and they were good in a rural country sort of way. This is a good place to stop for lunch if you happen to be in the area, but I'll probably not make a detour off the freeway next time, but still a decent place to eat. read more

Been going here for years! The best burgers in Northern California and just recently tried their breakfasts! Moco loco is so good- just like we had in Maui! We asked for grilled onions on ours and we split the large size. We've tried their breakfast burritos and also their warm sugared doughnuts! Yummm and my husband and I were very satisfied for $16! Loved this place!! Hand-pressed patties and patty size choices of 1/8lb, 1/4lb, 1/2lb, and 1 lb. I got 2 Simple Burgers 1/8 lb. My husband got a 1/4 lb Bonney Burger. So good. They get their meat from R&R. Tara (20 years in the restaurant business) and her retired firefighter husband bought the place. Friendly and yummy. Stopped in after the kids baseball game. What a deal on food in a town without a lot of options. Burgers were big, and the fries were just right. All of the dippings you could want, fry sauce, ketchup, ranch, BBQ etc. It's a pretty simple layout, cozy atmosphere. The girls behind the counter were friendly and quick to get the orders out. We've been wanting to try this little place for a while. The service was great, very polite and friendly. In fact I would give service 5 out of 5 stars. I'm giving two stars was because the food was pretty pricey $28 for two burgers, two fries and a kids burger with fries and a milk shake. I ordered Garlic fries with mine which had no garlic flavor. The food did taste good but nothing to write home about and slightly small portion size (in my opinion). Overall I wouldn't mind trying them again because of the customer service but I'm a little surprised at some of the reviews raving about "great" burgers. If they had more flavor and better pricing I would probably have no issues giving 4-5 stars. read more

Bonney's Burgers is a neighborhood classic. We went often when I was growing up, and I make a point to go back when I'm up visiting. They have a few tables inside, and a few outside. It's a classic burger joint menu - hot dogs, burgers, shakes, fries, etc. I always opt for a chili burger and fries and it never disappoints. Is it upscale dining? Nope. Is it cheap? Not really. We eat here 2-3 times a month. It's my husband's weekend lunch spot. We can ride our bikes there or take the old Jeep. I love that I ate at this very same burger joint when I was a kid. As there aren't many old burger joints left. I like supporting the local business and it's even better when the food is this good. The quality shows in meat and ingredients but not the price. All the burgers are hand pressed not frozen patties in a box. During the lunch hours make sure you call in your order if you're in a rush. Don't ask Siri to call Bonny burger she can't find it? Great burger, Great Service, in Happy Valley. It's not too close to the freeway, but it's a fun 5+ minute ride off Highway 5. The service was awesome. So much better than fast food that Anderson freeway style mostly offers. My son and I both had burger baskets, the meat was fresh and yummy, and the fries were crinkle cut and good and hot. Some nice men came in for their regular of taco's. It was time to take out and go watch more football. Bonney's is in the heart of Happy Valley perched between the ball field and the market, and with a whole lot of scrub oaks wishing they were valley oaks. But they don't have a complex about it.
