I have been here quite a bit lately and it continues to wow me. While the atmosphere isn't trendy or chic, it's comfortable and cozy. Feels like an older diner, but clean and well loved. It's kind of hit or Miss with the food here Breakfast seems consistently good but not so much for lunch and dinner. We have liked their fish and chips in the past but this last time we actually had to send both orders back because they were so overcooked they were on the verge of being burnt! If I was to write this review 5 years ago, I would have given this place 10 stars out of 5. Unfortunately, since Covid, they now close too early to be available most of the time, and close often on days of the week. In terms of food, their quality is good, but I really miss their crab tacos with jalapeno aioli appetizers. So, I give 3 stars for restaurant availability and changes to the menu. I stopped by with my husband and two friends early on a Monday morning as we were passing through the area. This establishment has a lot of breakfast choices, and it was hard to choose just one thing. I ordered the meat lover's breakfast, and my husband got an omelette. Since I was a kid I would go to Perkos and eat whatever and it was good. And always had great service. And when it changed to the Chophouse I wasn't sure if the food wouldn't be the same. But to my surprise it's better than I expected, at least breakfast. I don't go there for dinner too often, but it's descent enough to go back. But their breakfast yum yum yummy. If you order from there side menu they give you and try it. My usual is the Spinach Omelette, and ask for their Tomitio sauce. Sorry I'm not the best speller. You add that it's OH soooo good. I hadn't been to a coffee shop in years. The visceral experience hit me as soon as I walked through the door. The smell, clanking dishes and busy workers was a nostalgic walk into my past life as a line cook 36 plus years ago. I glanced into the open cooks line, seeing four cooks getting after it with a full line of tickets. The smiling waitress seated us promptly and the huge menu had my mouth watering. Although we had stopped at Anderson before it had been a year or two earlier and before Humble Joe's took over. I liked Joe's colorful new sign, appreciated the entrance and interior were clean and neat this late in the afternoon. A friendly and cheerful waitress brought us coffee, took our orders, and as she left we enjoyed the hot and tasteful coffee. Our food order arrived within a short time, the entire order was hot, my daughter had ordered fish & chips, my wife had ordered shrimp & chips, while I enjoyed my cup of chili and a bowl of split pea soup ... with a refill of hot coffee all'round. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and mentioned the warmth, tastiness and enjoyment of our meal .... including my soup and chili. Went in on a Saturday at 6:00. First clue, no one was there. No one except 3 staff. Obviously they weren't expecting a big night. Obviously we are immediately seated. Handed a Menu with over a 75 menu items. Not cost effective in this small town, predominantly low income area. I moved there in the 70's as a teen and have lived nearby the the last 25 years. We ordered 2 burgers, with a side, a cup of coffee and a glass of water. $33.00 ! On top of that a 15% tip if warranted. The service was great because we were the Only ones there with s staff of 3. They weren't expecting much that night, that's for sure. The food was fresh off the grill but what choice is there? It was " OK" but nothing to get excited about. Not for that amount of money. Never will I come back. Not only for the way too high prices, the food does not meet the standards for a $14.00 hamburger, or any of the other over priced food. I understand that minimum wage has gone way up. In order to make ends meet they have to raise prices and have less workers. Here's a thought.... cut your menu down by 2/3 and make those items outstanding. Less money is going for food waste and you might actually be able to serve decent food for decent prices! My family and I always go to humble Joe's when we go out as a family. We always have a very great experience and they treat us very well. They are different than most restaurants and will allow you to substitute many of the items. For example some places will only let you substitute toast for toast, but they will let you substitute it for pancakes!! read more

Food quality is not what it used to be. Choices are more limited. Servers are ok, I used to tip large but due to the 3% SURCHARGE I am going to tip less. I don't have to pay cash to save a little money. And there was no concrete explanation as to why. We decided to go here for breakfast this morning. We usually go to Vittle's but wanted to try something different, big mistake! This place is nasty, looks like it has never been cleaned. Waitress was rude and food prices were spendy for a diner. Now the kicker, we get our check and I go to pay. I give the waitress my card and it comes back with an extra charge for a "customer service fee". I ask what it is and the waitress explains that in California it used to be illegal to pass a credit card fee on to the customer but that has been changed so now they can charge the customer for using a card.
