Great bagels, rough counter experience. The bagel itself was excellent: a crisp outer bite with perfect chew, and a soft, well-made interior. No complaints there at all. I ordered it with scallion cream cheese. Good flavor, but way too much of it, enough that it overwhelmed the bagel. A lighter hand would let the bagel shine. My biggest gripe is the service. Everyone was friendly, but the staff asked "Is that all?" after every single element of my order: "I'd like a plain bagel." "Is that all?" "No, I'd like it toasted..." "Is that all?" "...with scallion cream cheese." "Is that all?" "No, I'd also like an everything bagel." "Is that all?" I hate this at fast food places, and I was surprised to run into it at a place like this. It makes you feel rushed, like you're holding up the line. Let customers finish their order. What's the rush? I finally got to try Bonnie Bagels today! I'm came on their opening weekend and waited in a long line, but sadly they ran out of bagels. They gave me a free bagel card for my next visit, so I didn't leave too disappointed. I got back there today and thankfully got to try them! This is a really cute place! They have a great seating area in the outdoor, covered patio. The indoor area also has a small seating area. They have really cute merch and they also seem their cream cheese spreads and drinks! The service was friendly but definitely seemed a bit scattered. The person who took our order seemed to put our order in correctly, but then on receiving the order it was not correct. My wife asked for her bagel to be toasted and my bagel had the wrong spread on it. Also, the cashier didn't seem to have our name in or our pager number so they didn't call us when our order was done. It was weird. The bagels themselves are good and definitely worth the price! I had a sesame seed bagel with their caper dill spread. Honestly, the caper dill spread was the best part of the bagel experience. That spread was amazing. I'm not sure though that I will wait in a long line for bagels here again. I love the Grateful Bagel just around the block and they may not have a beautiful patio, but I never have to wait for 40 minutes for a bagel there. Brand new bagel shop in town and decided to get there early to avoid lines and just before 730 it was already starting to get busy. Found it odd to only have one entry/exit as causes congestion when busy. Clean and sterile environment. Indoor and outdoor patio (located in parking lot) seating. Very cheery and friendly staff, welcoming and ready to take your order. Bonnie's offer a variety of bagel and spread options, with a few sandwich choices. They also have coffee (which I did not get), to-go spread and canned drinks. I got (and can only speak on)a GF everything bagel with vegan spread (almond base which was surprised by). GF bagel is on the thinner side, most definitely drier and chewy... (recommend only eating when warm) and would ask for extra cream cheese to counter dryness. Everything Flavor is there. read more

I had the opportunity to attend their soft opening yesterday and boy was it a treat. At my 9-5 I work with many of the bakeries around the Bay Area so I am in the unique position of constantly taste-testing baked goods, which includes many bagels. Bonnie bagels tops the list easily, no exaggeration. The everything bagel was perfectly fluffy and chewy, the perfect size and perfectly fresh, with flavorful seasoning. The scallion cream cheese was excellent in terms of flavor and amount. I also tried an iced matcha with oat milk that was delicious, and I'm picky about my matcha. The service was great, you can tell the employees were working through some kinks (what else are soft openings for?) but every interaction was met with a smile. These people seem happy to be there and to care about the place they work. And speaking of the place- the indoor space was intimate but very clean and well-lit with natural lighting. The outdoor patio was cozy and bright and a great space to sit and enjoy a bagel with a friend. All in all, I'm very excited to be back when this place opens for real. read more

Salt Bagel, plain to go. Swung by during a soft opening event and was pleasantly surprised, this place has put a lot of thought and effort into their product and layout. Coffee looks great and the bagels are genuinely something not offered by any other places in town, or Sonoma county for that matter. I know there's been a lot of talk in town about a place opening so close to a local staple, but at least for now, Bonnie Bagel has the superior bagel (sorry locals, GB down the street is a shell of what they were pre covid, quality wise). I feel like I just ate a completely different product than I'd ever had before. The one I had was still warm. It was so good it was unreal. Ok NYers, you win this one. Another west coast bagel place claiming to have east coast bagels. First of all the price is for sure West Coast! I bought sesame and an everything bagel to try. Plain, no spreads so that o could taste the bagel. Got excited when I first bit in because the chewy texture was there, but I was quickly disappointed. There was no flavor to this dough. Went on a Friday morning. It was pretty busy at the service is pretty fast. Staff was super friendly and nice. Definitely is a little bit pricey but over the quality of the food. A bagel in Coolidge Corner cost twenty-five cents in 1981. I grew up on Coolidge Street in Brookline, Massachusetts, a few blocks up from Kupel's on Harvard Street, in a neighborhood where it would not have occurred to anybody to call a bagel a specialty item. Bruegger's came later, and there were others on nearly every corner. Those bagels were cheap, and they were also built on bromated flour and food coloring and a preservative list nobody read, because that is what commercial baking was then. That twenty-five-cent bagel is the one people keep holding up next to Bonnie Bagels, and the two are not the same object. Before Bonnie opened, that end of South Main was a cracked parking lot you drove past on the way to somewhere else. The Mexican place next door is now getting customers it never had. There is parking, there are people of every age going in and out, and the corner has stopped being a thing you drive through. Food you buy instead of making comes down to three things: the product, where you eat it, and the person who hands it across the counter. Anyone with a kitchen and a free Saturday can boil bagels, cure lox and whip cream cheese, and a few people genuinely should. Everybody else is paying for all three. The place is bright and spare, which is the right setting for a piece of chewy bread with something fatty on it and a black coffee to send you out the door. Bold signage, strong color, a branding style that lands as quirky and professional at the same time. The outdoor seating is small and gets sun, sheltered enough to work on the grayest Sebastopol morning. When the line runs down to the parking lot, and it does, the workflow holds. They have a crew of new kids and an owner who is plainly there around the clock. My order gets repeated back to me. It comes out fast, for here or to go, and when something has gone sideways they have owned it at the counter and fixed it while I stood there. The bagel is fermented, boiled and baked, on unbromated flour, and the crust that comes off that process is a different material from the inside of it. American baking mostly abandoned that distinction decades ago in favor of a pale gut-ball of bread, wrapped in plastic and sold the next day. You can buy a bagel at Safeway and at Fircrest and at Starbucks, and there is no shortage of baked goods in this town, between Retrograde and the Red Bird pastries they bring in. Grateful Bagel has been twenty doors up the same block for years and has earned every one of its regulars. A town this size can carry two. I have eaten Wise Sons and Daily Driver and most of what the Bay Area puts out, with Coolidge Corner to measure all of it against. Bonnie wins. None of this is cheap and nobody has claimed it was. Unbromated flour costs more, fermentation costs time, a kettle costs a person, and Sonoma County payroll starts before five in the morning. For what actually reaches the counter I think the number is a bargain, and I have bought enough food in this county to have a view. Get there at seven and the air still holds last night's cold. Inside it smells like Sebastopol in late summer, the flowers at the end of their run or something like that, mixed with whatever it is bagels smell like while they are being boiled and baked, and black coffee coming up through all of it. The espresso grinder going the whole time. Dogs tied up outside, clippers coming off a season, techies carrying laptops they will not open, mothers on the school run, farmers, men in work boots with dry concrete on them, and old-timers who have been coming since the second week. To anybody who has decided the price is an outrage, please stay away. The line is long enough, and it is going to get worse as the rest of the Bay Area works this out. There is always a cheaper and faster bagel somewhere else, and I would take it as a kindness if you went and got one. read more

Extremely picky on bagels, lots of time in New York, and I'm genuinely impressed. Whatever sauce they put on the egg and cheese was unbelievably good. The long lines at opening sure seem justified! I picked up bagels this morning on their first official day open. I grew up in Los Angeles eating great bagels. Having lived in Northern California for many decades now, I lost hope of having a "real bagel" ever again. Bonnie Bagels are the real deal. They have a perfect outside crust and are chewy on the inside. The flavor is perfect. These bagels may not be for everyone, because they are not soft and fluffy, like so many "bagels" nowadays. But they are absolutely delicious. I am so glad to have this wonderful, locally owned business here in Sebastopol. read more

I stopped by here with a group of Scouts on the way to hike the Lost Coast Trail. Having seen them plan their own menus, I can tell you they're a bunch of picky eaters! We made lox and bagels at the trailhead. It was a treat to watch their eyes widen as they tasted fresh, authentic bagels for the first time. Half of us had plain bagels, and the other half had "everything" bagels. To a person, they raved about the texture and flavor. The dill and green onion schmears were a hit as well. On the way home to SF, the boys asked if we could stop by again, but it was late in the day, and Bonnie's was closed. Any future trips that bring us within reasonable driving distance of Sebastopol will definitely include a side trip for Bagels! read more

Nice Modern new set up, however, be aware that you will stand in line and will pay for a limit of two Loose bagels when you come to the front then get a buzzer in your hand and wait for your bagels. I was not aware of that. Wanted to have six bagels for three people could not get even an exception for a third bagel. :( will not go here again, luckily, on the other side of the post office is a bagel store that has been there for 20 years and they took care of me - I am grateful for now. Came in and waited about 15 min in line and another 15 to get our order as it was very busy. I ordered an everything bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese, capers, and cucumber to go. When I got to my destination and began eating I realized it was plain cream cheese and an abundance of capers. The bagel was pretty small in size as well.
