We have several raised bed crops growing in soilless mixes, and the Co-op not only has everything we need, they have it cheaper than any place else. Coarse vermiculite, peat moss, different types of compost to add to our compost, organic fertilizers, and now neem oil make us regulars during the Spring. If you are into organic gardening, this is the first place you should visit.

We asked one…read moreof the vendors (Rutherford Farmers Co-Op) if they offered anything besides flowers (hoping for vegetables or fruits) and the young lady working, went off on a rant about how her store can't afford to offer a variety of fruits and vegetable because "everyone wants organic" and "non-GMO", and she even very rudely said "well in my opinion, if you don't want to eat GMO's, then you just shouldn't eat at all!" We let her finish her spiel without saying a word, but in our heads we were thinking "wow, no thanks. We are perfectly ok, and entitled, to our organic, non-gmo lifestyle. We will never buy anything from her. Lesson learned." She could have simply said "no." Obviously, this does not reflect poorly on the Farmers Market, they have nothing to do with it. It was an unnecessary conversation to have with potential customers. Unprofessional.

They definitely cater to more farm-oriented clients, so it is less commercial nursery and more supply store for those in the lifestyle of outdoors and farming. None of this is a bad thing, but just to set the expectation! The store is good sized and depending on the season features a lot of outdoor space fitted with plants, grass seed, accessories, rock, straw, piping, barrels, etc...Interior is a little of everything from clothing to gardening tools, mowers, grills, grilling accessories, housewares, decor, chemicals, animal feed and treats and much more! Once we understood what they offered, we were solid. We were after a bit more flower bed based items and flowers themselves, which was not really offered here. We did pick up a few seed packets and a grill brush while here, so all was not lost on the visit. Service was a tad off from expectation, as they associates were quite busy with each other and less interested in engaging customers, even during check out. Overall, solid spot when needed.
