Usually a quiet atmosphere, clean and conservatively decorated. Very polite and fast service. The food is hot or cold (when appropriate) and tastes good which can be... difficult to find in Rock Springs. The fish smells reasonably fresh and the texture is nice. I was driving thru Wyoming and decided to stop for lunch. I planned on getting sushi but ended up going with the pork Szechuan lunch special. It was fantastic. The hot and sour soup was the best I can remember ever having, very thick with great quality vegetables and so delicious. It really surprised me with how good it was. The egg roll was super crispy, and it tasted like the sweet and sour sauce was not the typical bland pre-packaged kind that most places. The pork Szechuan was super hot and flavorful, perfectly cooked vegetables and pork in a flavorful sauce. I don't leave too many reviews, just when a place is good. read more

Came here about 15 minutes before closing as we were arriving at the end of another day of road-tripping. They were cleaning up and getting ready for closing, but welcomed my wife and I right in. The service was prompt, friendly, and the food was cooking pretty quickly. Their Unagi Don was amazing and the Sushimi was great too! One of the other reviewer said that this place tastes as good as the place he tried at Chinatown San Francisco. I agree. It still has a distance to the Japantown in San Francisco though (and a large distance to Japan); however, given the fact that this is out in the middle of nowhere, I feel that I shouldn't have too much expectation. The owner clearly spent lots of thoughts on the interior design...which I have to give credit. For the local cowboys, this place is good enough. Unfortunately I wasn't as impressed with the sushi that I decided upon. It just didn't seem as good as the sushi I recently had elsewhere. I've been to Bonsai three times and had the Dragon, Rainbow and Spider rolls previously. Everything was fresh, freshly prepared and delicious. On my last visit, we decided to try something different and had the Three Flavors Sizzling Rice soup, Fried Calamari and Beef Flat Rice Noodles in Black Bean Sauce. The soup was served with a plate of rice gently poured into the large bowl of brothy soup providing a nice sizzling sound and aroma of toasted rice. It was teeming with shrimp, thin slices of tender chicken breast, carrot slices and other fresh veggies. It was scrumptious! The calamari was fried just right, crispy, light and not overlooked and rubbery as in some restaurants. The highlight was the platter of flat rice noodles. It was served "wet", meaning with gravy and not dry stir fried as is my usual preference. The beef was thinly sliced, tender and marinated just right. Crisp slices of Red and green bell peppers gave the dish a festive look. The rice noodles were fresh and tender. The dish was brought together by the delectable black bean sauce. Fermented black beans are used particularly in Cantonese cooking as a seasoning to give dishes a pungent, salty flavor with a bit of bite. It's one of the best renditions of this dish that I've ever had! Service was excellent and friendly, which is somewhat of a rarity in many of the Chinese restaurants in Houston where I usually dine. So, this place is not just great for sushi. It's excellent all around. It's a solid 4 maybe even a 4.5 star establishment. read more

I was a little hesitant about this place at first from the outward appearance, but I was wrong. They've done a great job with the inside. Dark colored wood & modern lighting created a really nice atmosphere. The service was friendly and the sushi was excellent. First time there. Sushi was fine. Had the Vegas roll and a California roll. A lot of the rolls are covered in sauces and don't have that clean sushi look. My two issues were the rice amount on the Cali roll. The chef hardly put any on the roll and portions of the seaweed wrap were bare. The second concern is the cleanliness of the sushi chef. He would wash the counter or go in the back and then come out and prepare a roll. No gloves no washing his hands first. Seemed a little unsanitary. read more

Well, here's the thing - Your in Rock Springs, you want sushi, this is the best place. The staff is very friendly, service was pretty good. Now here's the next thing - compared to other sushi places is other places, this one is so so. Not the worst, not the greatest. No one could understand my question to please tell me the differences between the saki's. NO ONE could tell me that. The pear saki I had tasted like straight grain alcohol. I've had saki drinks before, but they don't have those, just straight saki. I had the Hawaiian poke and it was nothing resembling Hawaiian poke. It was just raw tuna, no spices, nothing. it wasn't even spicy tuna. It was fresh, but what a disappointment. Sushi seems to be made a little different, but pretty much it was good. My bottom line: next time I'm in Rock Springs will I go there? Absolutely. But I wouldn't say it's up to par compared to other places I like. read more

Road tripping home from Chicago to Idaho and who knew; great sushi in WY! Sushi and rolls definitely 5 star. Recommend the Las Vegas, Rock Springs and Volcano rolls. On the Chinese food side we ordered the Cashew Chicken and I would stick with the sushi and rolls. Wait staff is extremely attentive. They have done a fine job with the exterior building and interior. Looks to be a former Wendy's. The landscaping really needs to be spruced up.... lots of weeds. And the bathrooms could be updated. All in all a great food experience... just needs the whole package to get five stars. read more
