My wife's & my first time at Bonsai's since it was the old Spatt's Restaurant for those who remember it.....we loved the place. The atmosphere of Bonsai's is much the same: casual, comfortable & relaxing. The menu selection is split between Chinese and standard American fare, I hear the Prime Rib is to die for. Had the egg drop soup, and beef with broccoli and pork fried rice. Added chicken fingers and boneless ribs. Everything was DELICIOUS and very plentiful helpings .Service was spot on. Definitely returning. The only negative was a lack of ambience. The bare tables needed some sort of centerpiece, felt like a warehouse. Also, quiet background music would have been nice. Beef and broccoli, egg roll, boneless spare ribs and pork fried rice and beef and onion, white rice, chicken fingers and boneless spare ribs. Also got the lettuce raps. The pork fried rice was average, the up charged a $1 for white rice and that was not noted on the menu. The boneless spare ribs were all fat. The beef and broccoli and chicken and broccoli was good not the best. The chicken fingers were small and dry. The egg rolls were average and the chick teriyaki was chicken thighs and lacked flavor. The hot and sour soup was average nothing special. Mai Tai's were the best part of the meal. Bar service was slow had to ask Multiple times for water. In all. I would give the place a 2 star review. They have keno. The place is old and the dated. Will be back for drinks and keno only. read more

Went here yesterday morning at opening time, 11:00 am. Got the lunch special general gaos chicken with beef teriyaki, pork fried rice and a beer. Very tender chicken chunks with a bit of spice. Rice was good, not dry or greasy. Teriyaki beef was tender, not dried out and tough like some places. read more

If you sit down you will either be waited on constantly almost to the point of being uncomfortable or they will ignore you. Clean and "serve safe" environment, excellent food and friendly, knowledable servers! Asian Dinners are excellent and very reasonably priced; especially at lunch time. Portion sizes are generous. We went here for the first time Saturday night. I got a combination dinner plate. My son got Mu Shu. I don't know if they were having an off night or what but the food was tasteless. I can't say it was bad tasting, but it sure wasn't good. It was bland at best. The Mai tai was disgusting it was all alcohol like rubbing alcohol and no other taste what so ever. First time eating at this restaurant. We went with friends to try the prime rib. The service was terrible. We order drinks and our dinner all at once. They bought the drinks and salads right away. They also brought my prime rib dinner and everyone waited 20 minutes after my dinner. THe mashed potatoes were brown. There was no one in the restaurant so I am not sure why they were rushing to feed us. i will never go back. The Prime Rib was good. read more

I am originally from just north of Boston, so good Chinese is easy to find around there with places like Kowloon around and mom and pop places putting out great food.. we have tried DOZENS of Chinese places in NH, and this is by far the standard best! Not overly priced or pretentious, just SOLID americanized Chinese food. If you like good quality Chinese this is the best for the price in the area by far! Scorpion bowl was fruity n strong. The tidbit #1 had so much food we should have stopped at that. The chicken wings were nice n crispy, the beef teriyaki was big n juicy and full of flavor and the boneless spareribs were done well. Bonsai's Restaurant opened up in the former Spatt's Restaurant on the Massabesic Traffic Circle. The menu can be described as East meets West and combines a Chinese menu with some American cuisine by the Spatt's head chef. The place was redone with the dining room to the right and cocktail lounge to the left. Lunch is served from 11AM to 2PM with lunch specials priced at $6.99 to $7.99, 10 Chinese dinner combinations $12.99, dinner entrees $14.99-$34.99 (most $21-$25), and desserts ($4.99-$7.99). We made two visits to Bonsai's since their opening on September 7. VISIT A: My two coworkers and I arrive here at 2:10PM on a Friday, and we just missed the Lunch Menu. We order some really strong Mai Tais ($5.75 each) and Diet Cokes ($1.50 each with free refills) and start out with Lettuce Wraps with Spiced Pork ($8.95) which were pretty good, comparable to the Chicken Lettuce Wraps at PF Chang's. For lunch, two of us got Dinner Combinations ($12.99 each): Kung Pao Chicken and Pork Chow Mein, each served with pork fried rice and choice of two appetizers, which were good sized portions and the Chinese food was tasty. The beef teriyakis were a bit chewy and the chicken fingers (white meat in a thick batter) and the egg rolls were thick. My other buddy ordered a decent Garden Salad ($4.99) and Shrimp Scampi ($21.99), which had good butterfly shrimp over pasta. The service was good and attentive on this visit with refills on drinks and complementary cheese & crackers (a Spatt's tradition during dinner). However, the bill was a bit of sticker shock for a late lunch, around $85 before tip, ouch!!! VISIT B: My boss and I went here for lunch around 12:30PM on a Wednesday and we were given the Lunch Menu with much lower prices than the Dinner Menu. We ordered Diet Cokes ($1.50 each with free refills) and decided to order American food. My boss ordered a posted special which were Broiled Scallops served with Baked Potato & Garden Side Salad ($7.99), which was good and a small portion of food. I had the Beef Stroganoff ($7.99), which was a good sized portion of tender beef & sliced mushrooms in a rich gravy served over linguine, pretty good! After we were finished with our lunch, our waitress asks us if we would like dessert and coffee, some upselling action! We opted for dessert and my boss got a slice of Cheesecake with Strawberries & Whipped Cream ($7.99!!!-that's the same price as lunch), which was good, but overpriced. I got a slice of Mud Pie ($5.99), a frozen concoction of coffee & chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce, topped with whipped cream, a rich and good sized slice. The bill came out to $35.60 before tip. Overall, the food here was good, but overpriced for the area, the Chinese food especially. This is not PF Chang's and not in Boston. At other Chinese restaurants in Manchester, it costs less than $10 pp and you get lots of food. Moe Joe's on the opposite side of the Traffic Circle offers American cuisine and comparable food at lower prices and a better value. Would still recommend dining at Bonsai's, but we'll go between 11AM to 2PM during lunch hours. read more

Was cold, and I could tell it was sitting for a long time. Boneless spareribs were a really light brown color like they had been sitting for days. I could not even eat it and I threw it out. Always very happy with the food, high end of generalized Chinese fare with dinner combination plates. I've never had anything bad here with good prices. My only wish is they would allow more sitting in the dinning room instead of having seating in the bar area. I refused to sit in there tonight and ended up taking my dinner to go. They lost out on a drink charge, tip and we would have ordered more, we just knew certain items wouldn't be so crisp once we returned home. read more

Bonsai's has been able to survive because of its location quote well, There's little else around the Massabesic Traffic Circle in terms of Chinese food...though they have a complete American menu as well. It may be a turn off to think they don't focus on one particular cuisine, but the quality here is perfectly average on both sides. The restaurant is separated into 2 sides, one a bar and one a sit down restaurant. The bar is always loud and hard to hear in so I'd take the other side on your visit. The waitstaff is quick and friendly and the place is clean. When going through the various cuisine options a lot of the standard Chinese food is just that. You'd be better of going for a special they put a bit more effort into like the pan fried noodles or shrimp and scallop. Kung Pow anything here and you'll get it spicy, the chicken and shrimp that way are both great. With the prices around average to cheaper side depending on what you order, you won't take a bath on the price here and the portions are large enough for a second of even third meal. Don't expect greatness, but it's a solid place for some Chinese grub and a cocktail. read more

After moving to Manchester, my boyfriend and I were in search for a new Chinese joint. This place did not disappoint. The portions are excellent for the price. The crab Rangoon's are extremely crispy. The general tso chicken did have pineapple in it which was surprising, and not my favorite. But the chicken itself was high quality with almost no extra fat. The lo mein was a little bland and oily. Besides that I would highly recommend this place. They even gave us a punch card for every $10 spent. Went in with my husband on Monday night (Sept 7, 2015) and had a lovely young lady as our waitress. Despite being very busy with several tables, she did really well. Always very attentive, very polite, and even cracked a few jokes to make us feel even more welcomed. Our food came out hot and fresh, everything was right and delicious, and our drinks (made by the bartenders who's name we didn't know) were excellent. I have frequented many Chinese food restaurants in Manchester, and then my friend told me about Bonsai's. We tried it once and have never gone anywhere else but there. The prices I find are slightly more than your average Chinese restaurant, but I'll pay a little more for consistently high quality food. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve and we'll be sure to get our annual meal from their. If you've ever order Chinese from other restaurants, you'll hear of a wait of an hour or more, not at Bonsai's. The food is standard and mixed with Chinese or American food so if you have picky eaters it covers two relatively common dining cuisines. Prices are within other pricing for the two food types and I tend to lean toward Chinese and get appetizers since they are my favorite. The steamed dumplings are tasty and the drinks are pretty strong and worth it. We usually go after games since it is the duel menu and everyone can get something on the menu they are familiar with or prefer to eat. read more
