Well... I had an opportunity to patronize Boombox Tacos. I was attending an event and the food truck was available for food. Service was pretty good. The gentleman explained the options on their menu. Mainly tacos or quesadillas, in beef, pork, or chicken. They did offer Apple Pay, but for some reason the system wasn't working. They also have two salsas. Both were spicy to me. I would have like some fresh pico de gallo or lettuce. I really wanted something fresh on my taco to help juice it up. However, the food had a pretty good taste to it. I enjoyed the quesadilla the best. Nice portions. The ambiance was cool. Not much to say for a food truck. ‍ Nothing fancy, but easy choices, and relatively quick. I was told they were the vendor for anther function and sold out. read more

A kickass taco truck! They're a regular rotation at Truck Yard which makes perfect sense; tacos go with any type of alcohol. Their pastor and fajita tacos are straight up dope with the portion size, tenderness and juiciness of the meats, tortillas with the right texture, and salsas that compliment/balance the proteins. got a chance to check out Boombox Taco during taco Tuesday at Axelrad and I am so glad I did! The staff were personable and we enjoyed chatting with them. We tried both the steak and vegan chorizo tacos and they were so good! The steak tacos were juicy and the vegan chorizo tacos could sub a meat taco any day in my book! Both were flavorful They park at the back of the Axelrad outdoor area so it's nice to grab your taco and sit in a hammock to enjoy the ambiance! read more

I went to this food truck while I was at Truck Yard for Sunday Funday and they did not disappoint! I was so excited to see 2 vegan taco options on the menu that sounded DELICIOUS, and they were!! My friend even tried some of the vegan chorizo and said it tastes IDENTICAL to her real one she had! I had 2 tacos, they look small but they were very filling. Woah. The funky chicken taco is amazing. I wasn't sure if I could finish another one, but that didn't stop me from going back and trying!!! The regular chicken on corn was very good as well. And got the quesadilla well done, did not disappoint. Not to mention they have some good salsas. Flavorful vs spice. *update. Definitely finished another funky chicken taco. If you want good street tacos, this is not the place. 3 for $12 is pretty insane. Y'all know how tiny those tacos are. The steak was alright but the Al pastor tasted wrong. I don't know how to describe it exactly but the flavor was not good. They look good in the pic but they're not. The salsa was pretty bland as well and they don't post their prices on the truck which is weird. Rather have Taco Bell. read more

YUM!!! got the funky chicken taco and it was incredible! melted cheese, grilled onions, and fresh cilantro on top of perfectly seasoned chicken in a soft flour tortilla with nice, crispy edges (assume from the cheese - SO good!). husband got pastor tacos which i thought were pretty good, but the meat was a little bland. their green salsa fixed that. think it was $12 for all 3 tacos (funky chicken larger than the pastor which were street taco size) which i feel is pretty fair for a food truck. overall, GO! Grabbed a bite here as they were located outside Axelrad. Good amount of options besides your typical meats for tacos. They had a few vegan or vegetarian options, quesadillas and speciality tacos. I just stick with their standard tacos which were 2 for $5 and 3 for $7, not a bad deal. Of course these are those 3 bite tacos. I tried the steak, pastor and chorizo. These are served with onions and cilantro on 2 corn tortillas. You don't get to chose between flour and corn. The tortillas were slightly grilled so it brought out the corn flavor which is nice. They also have green (hotter) and red sauce. The meats weren't overly salty or greasy which was nice. This can be an issue for chorizo because it is so fatty. The pastor had some pineapple in it so it added a nice sweetness to the meat. The steak was a little drier than I hoped. Overall good tacos though but nothing mind blowing here. read more

Axelrad, went there just to try them!!! As promised over the phone, the food was really good!!! Make sure to load up on salsa... My only issue was the weird cut on the quesadillas!?! Which really isnt an issue... Actually if you trategize and are sharing just take the bigger/smaller pieces... Al Pastor was reallly good but the fajita is almost worth a life! read more

Stumbled on them at Axelrad and they were so good I went back for a second helping... I got the al pastor street tacos (onions& cilantro on corn tortillas) and 2 of the steak and chicken remix tacos (comes with cheese and grilled veggies)....SO GOOD. Flavorful, packed full of toppings and pretty quick for a taco truck. Friendly guys on the truck as well. Highly recommend finding where they are stationed and trying their tacos. Incredible value and DELICIOUS. Don't know how people snapped pics of their food. I gobbled them up too quickly to even think about taking a picture. read more

Meet an adorable little Mexican man named Alejandro that served us. I ordered dos tacos in the parking lot of barabella it was 80's sat night & i had a couple of too many drinks & i needed to sober up. To my conclusion for someone that knows tacos Alejandro cooked the meat to perfection & was not shy on the pastor meat. So happy I found Boombox Taco! I have been stalking them on Facebook and Yelp for awhile now but haven't been able to track them down. Finally I did what a girl in need of vegan chorizo tacos does.....I called them. Turns out they don't stay in specific spots but travel to where the crowds usually are. The only thing I know is that they're at Axelrad on Tuesdays and Arlo's Ballroom on Saturday nights. My fiance and I came for the vegan chorizo tacos and were not disappointed. They don't do the generic Soyrizo grilled and stuffed into a tortilla thing which is really nice. They go a step beyond and give the chorizo their own flavor. If you're not a fan of cinnamon then you probably won't like their chorizo. Just means there is more for me! :) read more

*Disclaimer: this review is strictly for the unprofessional customer service of boombox taco, as I didn't even get the opportunity to try the food. Was really looking forward to liking this place. Booked BoomBox Taco for my organization's event. Before they would confirm, they wanted to make sure they were going to be the only food truck, so they would make a profit. Because I wanted to be fair- I agreed, and so I didn't book anyone else. Then the day of the event, I confirmed with them several times. Two hours After they were supposed to arrive- I get a text saying their truck broke down and they can't make it. Didn't have the courtesy to give me a phone call. When I asked if they knew of any other food truck company that might be able to come to the event on short notice- they didn't even have the professionalism to respond to my text or answer my call. Was stuck with no food truck company for an event with 100+ people. Saw the Yelp reviews, so I figured this place might be worth a try. But definitely won't be working with them in the future. If they cut corners in customer service, don't want to imagine the food quality. Disappointed. read more

Hands down one of my favorite taco trucks in Houston! I grew up eating street tacos and nothing compared to the taco trucks back home in Oakland. But eating the tacos here, it reminded me of home. I think I fell out of my chair after the first bite! My absolute favorite is the steak tacos with onions and cilantro. You can get 3 for $7 but i normally get five to satisfy my craving. Alex's green sauce that he makes goes perfectly on top followed by a squeeze of lime. The pastor is also another great menu item along with the vegan chorizo. I know for the carnivores, vegan chorizo sounds funny but my husband swears by it. He's not a vegetarian, so that has to say something! Now if only I can get him to add micheladas and elote to the menu, I'd be set lol. read more

We didn't think we'd find a traditional taco truck that was as delicious as we wanted it to be for our wedding, but we were so wrong. Boombox is everything you look for in Mexican food, and more. Alex took the best care of us, from start to finish. He helped us construct a menu that made sense for our wedding and made me feel completely calm about the food, leading up to the day (a very important thing for a bride handling all the planning). He even offered to let me hide from the multitudes in his truck if my family got too intense jajaja. He's professional and just an awesome human. I'm so happy they were part of our celebration and can't wait to find them across Houston, since we really didn't get to eat enough that day! Book them. You will be eternally glad you did. I placed a large order ahead of time for a party, and Boombox Taco was great! Not only were the tacos 100% delicious and a huge hit at my party, the order was prepared ahead of time and ready for me. It was presented in a catering dish, so clearly he thought ahead. The salsas, limes, onions and cilantro were presented perfectly. Great Tacos! The owner is super cool and seems to have a passion for cooking. We tried them at Axelrad on a tuesday and asked him to improvise and give us something different. We have probably tried everything on the menu by now and I think they are the best tacos in the loop, hands down. I used to drive to 290 and Huffmeister for my favourite taco truck, Taqueria Ruby but now I can find better tacos within the loop! Must Try. read more

Not the mini small taco tortillas you get in a food truck. These are big tacos so getting 2 is enough for me. I've tried their Asado tacos and their quesadillas and their quesabirrias all 10/10.

One thing to note: don't count on a generous napkin supply. I realized after returning to my car that none were included. Consider keeping a few emergency fast-food napkins in your glove compartment.
