The morning employee, Angel, was very kind and professional, and I appreciated his service. Unfortunately, my interaction with the "owner," Carol, was extremely disappointing. I arrived around 6:13 AM, 17 minutes before opening, after dropping a friend off nearby for her work at Trader Joe's in Westwood who starts @6am. Usually when I have an early work call, I go to Bluestone Café because of the ambiance I've experienced before as a former UCLA Student, who is now Recently Graduated Btw. I asked Angel if it was okay to sit and get set up while HE finished opening, I also offered to help if needed, and he was friendly and understanding, and I only set up 1 table because it was out of the kindest of my heart AND he was awesome. Not even 6 minutes passed by but, I could tell he's a solid, smile oriented customer service worker with a big heart. A few minutes later, at 6:22am Carol approached me and told me to leave, after I had just ordered because Angel was treating me with 5 star hospitality! The restaurant was not open yet, AND I completely understand that a business has opening hours, and I would have had no problem waiting outside if that had been communicated respectfully by the "owner." The issue was the way the owner of Bluestone Café, Carol, spoke to me as her claiming she's "the owner" because she knows people in the district? Ok carol. She raised her voice, treated me like I was a problem, and made me feel extremely unwelcome. I left upset because the situation did not need to be handled that way. Angel, however, remained kind and professional, and I want to make clear that this review is not about him. Angel provided excellent customer service. "I was a disturbance," allegedly though to Carol when I asked why she raised her voice at me like that. No where near was I about to counter her asking me to leave originally, just wanted breakfast before my call and I was willing to wait, Angel knows it... but Carol? Man, she's lucky I didn't give a WORSE review than this one. By the way, this is my 3rd yelp review in the last 5 years, so when I gave the option for her not to act so disrespectful, she turned it up 10x. Completely unacceptable to treat anyone that way, and trust me I know the homeless problem in LA is bad. Hello I was in burberrys and a UCLA sweatshirt with my Tumi Backpack labeled "CB" (my initials), and in my 1300 european shoes I bought also known as burberrys... anyways I confusingly and surprisingly stated "I mean should I leave a 1star review?" Because I was astonished that the owner was continually being so disrespectful, but Carol responded by saying "I'm just going to counter it don't worry, we'll handle it"... who's we Carol? Overall, I was very disappointed by how the owner handled the situation. A simple, respectful explanation would have been enough. Instead, I felt disrespected and embarrassed, and I will not be returning to this location because of CAROL. :) However, Angel, and your coworkers, YOU guys are AWESOME for real. PARKING: Walked here but I am sure it's either metered parking or structured parking. SEATING: About 8 tables! Each sits about 2 to 3 people each depending. Lots of students here studying which is cool as there's always a need to study somewhere that is not home. There's also patio sitting but it isn't available as it is raining. But it looks to be about 3 to 4 tables. SERVICE: Friendly service! Walked in to a small line as it is a rainy day today. Two baristas on staff. Super quick, in and out! Barista on cashier was nice! I really had no questions to ask but I'm sure if I did, they would be more than happy to answer them. FOOD: I love seasonal flavors so much so I got the pumpkin cloud cold brew in their largest size. The coffee is smooth and the foam adds just a nice touch of sweetness. It is not overly too sweet which is nice and the flavor sits on top right after the coffee note. As someone who is not a big fan of overly vanilla-y flavors, the vanilla banana protein smoothie def hit the spot. I hate drinks with artificial sweeteners or syrup but this smoothie didn't have any of that. The banana's natural sweetness pairs nicely with the added nuttiness. Whenever you're on vacation trying to find a decent coffee shop is always a gamble. Of course you could go to a Starbucks where you'll know exactly what you're gonna get, and it's the same thing you can get everywhere else, and if I'm in a hurry, those work out great. But when you're on vacation or you have a little more time to look around and you truly just want to enjoy your coffee, as opposed to doing it for the caffeine, that's when you want a more local experience. Bluestone is everything you would want in a local, small coffee shop. It's bright, it's welcoming, they have a lot of outdoor seating, and best of all the coffee is really good. I also decided to get some avocado toast which is not something I usually do and I was blown away. Absolutely amazing. Just enough spice to it that it didn't feel as if you were eating just bland avocado.(don't hate, avocado has practically no taste) I was also pleasantly surprised that the prices weren't as outrageous as I thought they would be, considering the location so close to UCLA. If there was one thing that I would say it was a bit of a bummer was that the barista didn't really seem very friendly. But perhaps they were just having a bad day. All in all, give this place a try. Let's start with this: EXCELLENT service! I live in the area and have driven past this place hundreds of times and decided that today would be the day that I try it out. I walked in not knowing what to get since it was my first time, which I verbalized to the woman taking my order. She recommended the Vanilla Oat Milk Latte. I had questions and she was kind enough to answer all of them without becoming impatient--much appreciated. As I was getting my card out to pay, she said that it's on the house. My eyes got big in disbelief. I said are you sure? She replied yes with a warm smile. Also, the drink was great, just like I like it: sweet with extra light ice. This was my first time visiting this coffee shop. I'm happy I stopped by. When ordering my normal americano with a splash of oat milk. The barista offered me a free drink if I write a review. How Awesome is that! Danny my barista was so helpful and kind to me. He made my drink perfect, brought it to my table where I was reading and placed the straw in my cup. This helped to make for an overall great experience. This is a prime example of doing a little more than you are paid for. Small deeds like this, should not go unnoticed. read more

This Bluestone Lane branch is located in the heart of Westwood Village. They have a decent sized shop with indoor and outdoor seating. There was a very short line to order when we visited and it moved very quickly. It didn't take long to get our drinks. The cortado is strong and dark. I love it! The dark flavor works very well with the latte too. It doesn't look like they object to people studying and/or working here but I personally wouldn't because it's so close to the campus with its dozen or so libraries.
