I stopped by on a weekday morning during the summer and it was a great place to get some work done. There were a few other people working but plenty of open tables. I ordered an iced matcha latte and I wish I could taste the matcha more. They also have pastries and bagels if you are looking for a quick bite. The music was on point when I visited! It was so good I didn't have to put on my headphones. It's a chill spot to work or study especially during the summer when it's quieter on campus. read more

Located on the second floor of Kerckhoff Hall, you could smell the coffee on your way up the stairs before you even make it to the second floor. There's a bit of a line to order but it goes by quick. The space is beautiful. But, as you can imagine, full. Not to worry, walk out and you'll find a giant courtyard with lots and lots of tables and chairs. There's no real apparent difference between the coffee at Bruin Buzz or the coffee at Kerckhoff Coffee House. What's all together difference is in the name! One is a Coffee House one is grab and go. I love the sweet staff at Bruin Buzz and while they are usually abuzz Kerckhoff Coffee House is really one of those very special nook and crannies on campus where if I wanted to escape into with a book or work on something on my laptop in a Coffee Shop, this would be the spot! It's a beautiful warm cozy yet energetic space. I'll go out on a limb here and say, probably one of the nicest on campus coffee shops you'll find and I'm not talking UCLA specifically. I don't love sitting still but this is the type of spot where if I did, I feel I'd be very comfy. I'll definitely snag a table to stay put sometime in the future, maybe on a rainy day... until then another lovely place to grab coffee. read more

Cool little spot on campus to grab a coffee or tea. I walked from the hospital to get a nice stroll in, and wanted something other than coffee. I couldn't find this place at first - but then realized it was on the second floor. The view made it quite charming despite the hustle and bustle of students walking around. I ordered an iced matcha latte with oat milk. The girl who took my order was very polite and patient. The drink came out rather quickly as well. At first sip, I was a bit shocked that it was not sweetened at all, but I actually appreciated that. I found it to be quite refreshing. I will probably check it out again for a coffee drink next time I'm visiting at the hospital. read more

I've been to this coffee house many times over the years and have always viewed it as a convenient source for consistently lousy coffee. When I stopped back a few days ago, things looked a lot better to me. The double espresso that was made for me was actually perfect; the accompanying croissant was pretty generic but still perfectly welcome. Once I found a table for myself outside, I was totally set up for an excellent experience. A surprise was that the staff were unfamiliar with the concept of a macchiato. As a workaround, they handed me a very small cup of fresh milk that I could drip into my espresso. That was fine, actually, but it was definitely in the "second best" category. The Kerckhoff Coffee House is a strong early frontrunner for my 2023 Most Improved Award. read more

This is one of my favorite coffee shops on campus. Its located on 2nd floor of Kerckhoff hall (hence the name Kerchhoff coffee house) and its very beautiful. This place has lots of tables and outlets along the pillars. Its a nice place to gather and discuss homework, projects or study for any upcoming exams. Its a loud, vibrant yet productive atmosphere filled with hip-hop music from the speakers. The drinks here are well made. I love their Earl Gray Tea Latte. It is the best. I love it so much. I also like thier coffee, its decent its not too acidic or bitter and they have a nice selection of sugars and milk, cream, soy options for you to add. They also offer fresh pastries and sandwiches from Curbside of Avenue A, for those who want to get something to eat. I usually go for the donuts with sprinkles, they taste like the ones from winchells. The only downsides is that this place is often very very full during weekdays and exam days (midterms and finals), so expect to get your food and drinks to go around peak hours. Another thing is that it can get pretty loud, so if you are not a fan of loud noises, I would recommend bringing headphones. read more

I went here during my boyfriend's orientation and fell in love. I got an iced chai and ham, egg, & cheese croissant. The croissant was good, but I forgot to sub oat/soy milk for the iced chai (which was also good!!). The interior is beautiful and it's a great place to study or play animal crossing. Kerckhoff Coffee House is probably the busiest coffee shop on the UCLA campus. It is the most central, the most well known, and "serves the best coffee" according to students (although other coffee shops serve the exact same brand coffee). I love going to Kerckhoffee (as the students like to nickname it). The staff is awesome, and the atmosphere is great too! This place is usually packed during weekdays since students flood the place, so good luck if you're trying to find a spot to study while you're there! The line is also usually long, but they're pretty well staffed and take orders relatively quickly. They have great cold brew, nitro cold brew, and you can also never go wrong with a classic latte. No shortcut through Kerckhoff is complete without the tantalizing aromas of ambrosia wafting over from this coffee house. I remember my first memory of this place was redeeming my free coupon for an iced drink that I got from the ASUCLA tour during orientation. After that, it has been that place that I always pass by and can never decide whether I should grab something to drink or not. Too many decisions. On top of deciding my major I have to deal with this? The inside has a decent amount of seating, but since this place is a popular study spot, you rarely find seating inside. Outside, the patio chairs and tables are dirty and uncomfortable. Not much else to say about that. The workers here are always extremely friendly! I never feel that bad about selling my soul away here. On certain nights, you can hear a band playing inside, or try your luck with some poetry! read more

This is a very nice looking Cafe on the 2nd floor of Kerckhoff Hall on the main UCLA campus. The building is very impressive and historic. The interior of the Cafe has alot of character with antique looking tables, chairs and medieval style windows. There is also large courtyard seating next to the Cafe. The Coffee, mixed blend, I had was very good as were the raspberry and cinnamon pastries. This Cafe is very conducive to studying and meeting people in a warm, classical atmosphere. I am a big fan of coffee houses and Kerckhoff Coffee House does not disappoint. I've loved this place ever since I was a student at UCLA. With its nice dark wooden walls, chairs and tables, this place just has the whole cool, quaint coffee house vibe. It's a perfect place to grab a muffin, a coffee or tea and just enjoy reading the Daily Bruin. It's also a good place to meet up with friends. Apparently, I am not alone in my admiration of this coffee house because it seems to be always crowded. It can be hard to find a spot to sit at. However when there is an open spot here, be sure to grab it and just enjoy this nice coffee shop. Grab a pomegranate green tea or a pumpkin spice latte and a pastry and you'll be sure to love this place just like me :). read more

"I can't focus!!" Those were the words I thought of when I could not study elsewhere. How ever, Kerckhoff coffee house was definitely my fix. I would spend hours, and I mean like 5-6 hours in one sitting at this place. I'd love parking myself at the big round table with those comfy chairs, or just simply sitting at a table by a window just to take a peek at UCLA's beauty. Oh, did I mention that I actually sat across from James Franco at that round table? I didn't notice until I sat down. And yes, there were a bunch of girls swooning over him, trying not to be obvious. But sorry ladies, he's not there anymore since he graduated. Any way, this coffee house is almost to always packed. Definitely not a "quiet" environment conducive for studying, but I always managed to silent that noise out. There's always a long line, filled of students and professors trying to get their caffeine fix. Tables were filled of people talking, studying, or sipping on some tea or caffeine, or eating one of their tofu veggie wraps or pastries. There were a lot of options btw of pastries there. But I always stuck to my Low-Fat Blueberry Muffin or Cream Cheese Pastry, and my regular Iced Mocha Lattee, easy on the ice. Yummy indeed. And during the most stressful times of the year, aka midterms and finals, I always made sure to get my free cup of coffee and spend the night studying. Festivity? Depending on the time of the year, this place always had that spirit. Spider webs, witches, and goblins during Halloween. And Merry Christmas signs during winter. Green colored decorations galore in March, and bunny rabbits in April, all of which gave you that holiday spirit. So if you need to study, can handle a noisy environment, and like that festive thing, this place may just be for you too :) read more

One of the best selections of drinks and pastries on campus. Great place to go if you need a breather and some air conditioning. However this place is also insanely popular, so plan strategically if you want to study here or just sit down and enjoy your food. Smaller groups fit in easier, and off-peak hour seem to be late in the week in the afternoon. read more

The signage clearly states that it's open at 8am on Saturdays, but I waited till 8:15 and there was still nobody inside. At least 6 others stopped by and were equally disappointed. Someone f'd up! This is hands down the best coffee house on UCLA campus. Stained glass windows and cozy atmosphere aside, the staff are all so very friendly. Sometimes you can hear the workers' cackles even before entering the cafe. The coffees are what's expected from a student coffee shop (though some days they can pleasantly surprise you with a mean cup of almond cappuccino). Though coffees are not the best, the warm presence of its staff makes up for it. I also love how they have an eclectic selection of music ranging from Disney classics to EDM remix of r&b songs to hardcore rock. You never know what you'll end up listening to as your study playlist! Don't forget to stop by if you visit the campus! read more

One of my favorite spots in UCLA. I usually get the late and a blueberry scone, and stay around to study. On Tuesday nights they have a stand up show after 8 and impromptu performances throughout the week. The line gets really busy during lunchtime, so I would avoid it if possible. Come early or late in the day to find an empty table. Most of the staff are students are really nice, always courteous and pleasant. read more

The staff and location is great; you can always find plenty of students at the tables studying or hanging out with friends. However, the coffee itself isn't the best. It tastes like office coffee. If I'm looking for a place to lounge around, Kerckhoff is the place to go. If you want great tasting coffee, I'd look elsewhere. read more

Yep, Kerckhoff is still busy in the mornings with lots of people already set up for a morning full of studying at the tables, and a line to the windows in the back when I stopped in this past Wednesday around 9:15. I would say it doesn't seem like a good place to socialize or people watch or just relax with a coffee and snack. If you can snag a spot, it's probably a decent place to study alone or in a small group, as long as you don't mind the ambient noise. It seems like now there's a better system for cashiering, with more baristas working and a much, much larger selection of pastries and now, breakfast sandwiches. I got my iced americano quickly and it was pretty okay-- price and taste still on par with most chains, and nothing really memorable. I'm sure I'll be back because the location is still ultra convenient and beautiful (on the outside.) read more

The space is SO COOL - the only gothic building at UCLA, you sit inside looking out at the beautiful lawns/hills of UCLA through gorgeous styled windows. I love sitting in here and studying; there is good ambient noise. Sometimes the music gets a little overwhelming, but the staff always turns it down upon request. Decent coffee drinks, but they usually dump wayy too much sugar in everything for me - if I order anything other than black coffee, I generally specify how much powder/pumps of syrup I want in my drink. Maybe that's annoying, but I get the drink I want. Really yummy bagels with fluffy whipped Cream cheese (I really like whipped cream cheese...) They used to have live bands/performance nights, which I went to once about 10 years ago and wasn't a huge fan of. I think it's best for a midday study or work spot, preferably during off times for students so you're not fighting tooth and nail. read more

A lot of people avoid Kerckhoff because of the mediocre coffee, but they miss the purpose of it - to provide a space for students to meet up or study while getting a boost of caffeine. No one will ever claim that Kerckhoff has world class coffee and I personally don't like their stuff. What I do love is the feeling of sitting down and studying with friends in a cafe. It's also convenient for grabbing caffeine or food in between classes. Overall, come here for the atmosphere and for the convenience - go elsewhere for good coffee. read more

Decent place in the middle of campus to study or grab something quick to eat. The prices aren't too great and the quality of the food/coffee is just average, but it's convenient and the interior has a nice atmosphere. They sometimes have live music and performances (I think Monday nights?), which are cool. They recently got rid of the Baskin Robbins inside to allow more room for serving coffee. If it's during finals or midterms (a.k.a. any week except first week because let's be real midterms happen every week), don't expect to find a seat inside unless you a) get there when it opens or b) push someone out of their chair so you can sit there. The first option just isn't very viable for my lifestyle and the second option isn't recommended if you're trying to make friends, so you're basically forced outside onto the patio, which is still nice apart from the fact that the chairs weigh 587634 pounds and make the most terrible sound when you try to move them. If Kerckhoff is full and you're looking for somewhere inside to study, I'd recommend the study lounge on the floor above. They have a bunch of couches and tables and these really nice reclining chairs that are perfect for naps if you have a break between classes. read more

I can't believe there's a review up here for Kerkhoff... this one's more about the patio. Though I do love the inside a a place to get warm when it's chilly outside and do some serious people watching. The Kerkhoff Patio defined my UCLA experience, seconds away from Bruin Walk, Kerhoff was the place to see and be seen when I went to UCLA. Much like the dining halls/ residential restaurants during your freshman year, this is a place where you can wander from table to table catcing up with people you havent seen since an earlier class, last week, or even last year. The atmosphere is nice, though it seems impossible to find a seat. The drinks I've tried have severely underwhelmed me. The iced cappuccino royale had super burnt espresso. The strawberry cream latte (workers call it tea latte) was not a latte at all... It had no foam, just scalding hot milk. And just tasted.... weird. Should not be on the menu. Coffee has gotten worse recently. Coffee is made by students which seem to have very little training in preparing espresso. If you order a latte, you can be sure the milk is way too hot (which ruins it) and too foamy. Unfortunately, there is no good alternative on campus to get coffee. Can someone here learn how to make a latte? One that doesn't taste like water, please. I can put up with loud, crowded places with long lines if the coffee is decent but every drink i've gotten at kerckhoff has been bad, real bad. For some reason, Bruin Buzz always makes better drinks with much more consistency. It's like ASUCLA decided to put all the bad baristas in kerckhoff. Kerckhoff is the first place on campus I'll go to get quality coffee (aside from inexpensive SEAS Cafe), but the last place I'd go if I was not on campus. Why? It's expensive, I can brew a better cup of coffee myself. For some reason, it's packed as hell here. Do people actually study here and if so, HOW? No idea. The live performances they have sometimes is cool though. But honestly, I'm a broke college student so I'll give it to Kerckhoff for offering FREE COFFEE after 9pm during Week 10 and Finals Week for all the students studying on campus. They lay out large coffee dispensers and yes, it's FREE. I come when I need to stay up late or pull all-nighters, bring my coffee tumbler and load up on coffee. Sure way to stay up. This place makes - without a doubt - the worst mocha latte I have ever tasted. And while I should be kinder knowing that everything here is being made by overworked sleep-deprived students like myself, I really can't forgive this at all. It's hard to describe, but basically I could have made a better mocha latte if I had taken some average break-room coffee and added Nestle Quik to it. I wish I could say I'm joking, but I'm really not. Besides this, the place is always packed solid with students, most of whom never purchased a drink but simply want to see and be seen while appearing to be studious poring over their textbooks.
