I came here on my first day at Glen Harbor with a group of friends for lunch. It's a chill area and our server was great! I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and it was alright, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. My friends that ordered other meals echoed the same sentiment. Our friend that was staying over there for the summer admitted that this isn't the best place to go to for food, but it was convenient and just a cool spot to chill out at. Boonedocks has never been good. After waiting for over an hour for a table this guy had a snarky remark to us about how "I don't know what to tell you. people are eating" in a very rude manor. We were told by several people it would be one hour for us to be seated, but we weren't seated for an hour and a half or more. The poor server we had was trying her very best but was serving so many people that it was impossible to nail our order. The kids were playing with the condiments that look like they have been out in the sun all day. Gross. Flies were biting our ankles from under the table. The food was absolutely mediocre for the prices they were charging. Food felt old and refried. Be prepared to bring your own silverware because everything is plastic. Even the sauces come in a black plastic container. The guacamole and salsa left us with canker sore. It felt like it was scraped from many guests plates into a sad little bowl. The chips even tasted like table turnover bleach spray. The jerk chicken was disgusting and mealy. I don't know what inclined them to include this in their menu but I'd recommend they take it off because it's morning like any jerk chicken I've ever had and no. It's not just the "taverns take" The kids running this place are working so hard but it's unfortunately coming off more so as a mediocre spot than a go to. The music was rather sad and dated potentially sentimental. The drinks were okay not the best. Don't try something new on the drink menu it will taste like windex. Our server was honest about what NOT to order which was so refreshing, I get sick of servers that tip toe around that subject. I never leave negative reviews. My family and I returned to Leelanau for our annual summer vacation. We decided to visit Boonedocks on a rainy day for an indoor lunch to escape the inclement weather. While we were waiting for our food another customer calmly approached a staff member who was cleaning the table next to ours. The customer discreetly attempted to report a large amount of hair in her meal. This was met with the staff member calling over the manager and pointing out the "huge clump of hair" while discussing the spectacle in earshot of other customers. Needles to say our appetites were ruined and we left after paying over $130 for a meal that was untouched (excluding beverages and appetizer). The experience was unfortunate at best. read more

We stopped here while sight seeing the area. The inside was a 30 min wait and the outside seating was a 45 min wait on a Friday at 115pm. We chose to sit outside and waited approximately 1hr 15 min. The onion rings were hot and crispy. I shared the Jerk Chicken sandwich. The chicken was a finely chopped blend with no real flavor or heat. Our group also ordered the shrimp which everyone liked a lot. The staff appeared short and the food took awhile. The waitress was extremely busy and kept a great attitude. The bar was staffed with one employee that appeared to be making drinks for the bar and tables which left long lines and slow drink service to the tables. Overall I would recommend grabbing a beer at the bar and enjoying the patio waiting area, but wouldn't wait over an hour for the menu. read more

Summer time in this area just feels different, everyone is outside enjoying life. In the corner of one of these blooming streets you'll find Boonedocks restaurant, bar, gift shop, ice cream shop and I don't know what else, all blended together. The place doesn't really have an identy, per se. My wife actually chose this place because it "looked cool", I'll make sure that doesn't happen again. The fried pickles were like patties of batter, had zero flavor. Only a sprinkle of parmesan was all. The shrimp plate I ordered was terrible! Shrimp was in the fryer for an extra 5 minutes it seemed. I don't understand how you actually served over-fried shrimp to someone when you're charging almost $20 for it. The slaw had huge chunks, felt unpleasant chewing. Didn't enjoy anything honestly. Quality of the food didn't match how exaggerated the prices were. Will most definitely be skipping this place next time I'm in Glen Arbor and so should you. I ordered a whitefish sandwich with onion rings, $32 (come on, guys) Ok it's a tourist trap in a tourist town, but I've been to other ones where the food was great, this was just plain bad. Tasteless rings, and you'd think for a $20 sandwich they could at least toast the bun; it was huge and doughy for the tiny piece of fish. If you can sit outside in the summer it's really nice because you can hear the band playing. Wish there were more options that were healthier. And more salad options. Split the salad and perch dinner. Perch dinner is always very good and a nice portion. Comes with fries and coleslaw. My friend liked his burger and fries. They have a new policy that only one bill and one credit card is allowed. No splitting it up. We were okay with that and understand but some bigger groups may not love that. But after only 1.5 hours of being at our table, we were not asked if we wanted dessert or even a second round of drinks. If I could leave 1 star I would in a heartbeat. It feels wrong to even leave a star after my families' experience during our vacation at this shit establishment. The managers and owners are incredibly hot headed and run a crap business. Our first experience was during lunch hours where we approached the manager to ask about lunch availability and he simply said "listen we don't have the space or time for you. You can come back when we're less busy". It was extremely condescending and we were treated as if we were doing them a disservice by simply asking to get seated. This should have been our warning sign to definitely NOT come back, but as classic midwesterners we decided to give it another whirl. We came back for dinner and were treated like less than human throughout our visit. Starting by being berated for simply having our toddlers eating a slice of pizza to hold them over during our hour and a half wait in the common area. The manager Simon was beyond aggressive with his approach and honestly acted as though we had snuck in illicit drugs to his shit establishment. Later on, after our less than marginal meal served on plastic ware (might I add) when we approached Simon regarding how we really didn't appreciate his approach, tone, or disrespectful attitude towards us he immediately raised his voice and essentially was telling us that he doesn't care, I don't have time for you, and we can talk to his boss and it doesn't matter. It was purely outrageous. If a customer has a legitimate concern or issue, it should be addressed with respect and an understanding attitude. Me nor my family has never been treated this way by any establishment let alone A MANAGER (whose boss condones their behavior). The only saving Grace was the sweet servers we had. Will never be returning to this poor excuse of a restaurant serving market day food, frying it up, and serving it on plastic ware for the price of fine dining. read more

I ordered the Angus burger at $15.95, medium. It was supposed to be a freshly made hamburger cooked to order. It was a previously frozen patty that was overcooked, maybe 6 ounces tops. Actually, it was a small blessing that they had cooked it so much since it smelled like it had been around a while, not exactly rotten but definitely aged past its prime. This nice and lively restaurant was our lunch destination last Sunday during our visit to the Sleeping Bear Dunes. From the outside, this restaurant looks cool. It has small small individual structures having a gift shop, an ice cream shop, kitchen and a bar at the center of it all. We had to wait for about 30 minutes before we got our table because the place was extremely crowded. There were separate tables when people can wait and have ice cream and drinks and watch other people have their food. While we were waiting for our table, we tried their local beer and it was quite refreshing and came as a relief as it was very hot that day. There was a live band playing songs and I guess there were more bands that were going to play in different shifts. We tried the following food items : Coconut Shrimp : nice and crispy, fried in coconut oil I believe. it came with 2 dipping sauces. Porcupine wings : This was absolutely delicious. The sauce wasn't too tangy like the regular hot sauce. Chicken was juicy and tender on the inside. Something fishy sandwich : This one had 2 pieces of fried fish fillets with the regular lettuce and tomato stuff. The bun was pretty big in size unlike the buns you get at the fast food joints. The fish was extremely delicate and tasted amazing. Grilled Pesto Chicken : The chicken was extremely juicy. Veggie burgers: I did not eat this one but my vegetarian friends praised it a lot. One of them said that this was the best veggie burger he has had so far. Overall, it was am amazing experience for hungry birds like us. We left with happy faces and happy tummies. The whitefish sandwich was good and the fries were done perfectly. We just could not get past how many flies were in the restaurant. We asked to be moved from our first table because there were so many flies in the booth. They were on our drinks and our soups. When we were moved to another booth we still had to deal with about 50% of the flies we had originally. What was sad was that another couple came in and they sat them in the fly booth after we moved out. There were only 5 settings being used so there were plenty of other options. So sad because for years this has been one of our favorites and it is going down hill fast. read more
