Our waitress was an unfriendly and inexperienced. I order a cheeseburger medium-rare to be safe and received a badly overcooked hamburger that was just flat out bad. Fish sandwich had almost no fish and wasn't very good. Randomly the rueben was decent, probably because there was no cooking involved. Everything took a long time even though it wasn't busy. Never received the second drink I ordered. Not sure if they are understaffed due to COVID or what, but the entire staff was moody 17 year olds that hate their job. Pretty disappointing. Service was pretty slow even though they were way over staffed. Ordered the fresh perch and it came out on a styrofoam plate. You're better off driving to Leland, Maple City, Cedar, etc. the live music was good but everywhere has live music, if this is what is bringing you to this restaurant, you can definitely find better. We arrived before 6pm on a Sunday and were told over 30 min wait for a two person table. We just sat at the bar. The service was really quick at the bar and their drinks are really good. My boyfriend and I both ordered the strip steaks and weren't impressed. I could make a better steak at home. We got the mac and cheese bites off the kids menu too and those were really good. Yes.. yes.. we did read the bad reviews, but if you are here off season, there is no other place to get a beer and burger. We had gone to Art's Tavern so many times, we wanted to try something different.... big mistake... The place was pretty empty, and yet it still took a long time to get our menu...and our drinks.. and then even longer to get our order. What was so discouraging is that the waitress kept saying, "I'll be right back to..." take your order.. or bring you drinks... or whatever... and yet she never was "right back".. She checked on just about everyone, including refilling other table's water, while we all just say there waiting for our order to be taken. By the time she finally stopped by, it had been so long, most of us had to reference the menu again because we had forgotten what we wanted. The stars are only for the food... We were happy with the taste, but then when we got the bill, we noticed that we were charged extra for add ons like mushrooms and chesse. This place is really horrible. They charge $17 for a Reuben and $4 to add fries. I wouldn't complain too much about the food if I was paying $13 but in the context of pricing and experience the food is sub-par. I tried the Reuben, pulled pork and burger. They were all pretty bad. The Reuben was slapped together quickly so that the meat and condiments only took up half of the bread. By the time I'd eaten half of my sandwich I was out of water and had to wait another 10 minutes to get some. The fries were flavorless. We were drawn in by the music but honestly the acoustics are pretty bad. They use plastic silverware and pre-packages dressings. The place is always busy and the service is slow. We've been here off-season and on - it's always great! During peak season, there is live music on the patio every night for a fun, laid back vibe. We love the perch and whitefish dinners - lightly breaded and fried, with a choice of veg and a side salad for $23. Each entree is PLENTY for two humans. The hubs and I are athletic, and big eaters. Again, enough for two of us. If you think you require more food, you need to have a heart to heart with yourself about your caloric needs. They also serve a yummy multigrain bread with butter. I visited this restaurant twice in two nights with my friends from Chicago. The first night we had six in our group and the second night, we had 11. The outside patio looked like a really cool place to chill out, but that would have required waiting 45 minutes. So we took a table inside. I liked the wooden, rustic setup of the bar and how there were a good amount of TV's, but not enough where it felt like a sports bar. It just felt like a cool place to come and have a drink. What I remember most from the first night was the slow service. The waitress really never checked back with us, except to serve the food after we hard ordered. So it took a long time to get drink refills. The seeded bread tasted decent, though it could have been warmer. I did enjoy their Boone Docks side salad with the dried cherries and walnuts. Nice contrast of flavors that livened up what already was a decent salad. Although I wanted an order of whitefish, I was told they were out, pretty disappointing. I ordered the brown sugar walnut salmon and it came out very moist. It tasted really sweet with the brown sugar though. My side of rice pilaf tasted very plain and boring. I actually added tartar sauce just to give it some life. I tried a French fry off another plate and it had no seasoning and tasted like it just came out of the freezer. Pass on the fries! Later that night, I found out, one of the girls in our group who wasn't there yet, tried to order food for takeout. She asked what kind of food was served and the price ranges. The person who took the call repeatedly snapped at her and said there was no take out and that they were busy. The next night, we did go back. And we were able to sit on the patio and enjoy the warm sunset. A bluegrass band was playing, which was pretty cool. After a long day of climbing sand dunes and hiking, my 24 oz Bell's Oberon hit the spot. I ordered the large Boone Dock's salad this time and it was served in a paper tray and I used standard S&P shakers. The previous night, I was able to use grinders for both the S&P. Also, I got oil and vinegar instead of the Italian vinaigrette, which I had asked for. The chicken fingers were okay, I got five decent sized pieces. The BBQ sauce was pretty mild, I was hoping for a little more tang or a little more heat. The honey mustard is the better way to go. The service this time was so-so, nothing great, nothing terrible. It cost 30 bucks for each dinner, including tip. Not too bad all in all, but I'm not exactly yearning to return here for a full meal. This was my first time at this restaurant. My kids and I were starving after a few hours hiking and playing at the dunes and trails. Waitress was very friendly. I ordered the Black and Bleu burger and my kids ordered Mac and cheese bites with a salad to split. The salad was great. Kids loved it. Mac and cheese bites are what they are, fried mac and cheese. My burger was by far the best Black and Bleu burger I have ever tasted. The Cajun seasoning was amazing. I would come back for this burger again! We ordered their Michigan Orchard Salad and it was clear they were premade and pulled from the cooler plastic bowl and all served up and a ridiculous price. I really hate writing a bad review but our server was sooooo slow and it seemed to take forever to get a glass of water (after climbing Sleeping Bear Dunes!) and then another forever to get some draft beer. The hostess was kind enough to get us water after waiting for over 10 minutes for the server. Maybe she was having a bad day but she just didn't seem into it. Most of the folks in our group have waited tables and we all tip well, even when the service sucks. We still left her a 20% tip which is on the low end for us. Our six kids were at the table next to us and ended up getting super server. They are used to eating out and conduct themselves appropriately. The food is mediocre. The server forgot my knife and fork but the helpful hostess hooked me up. The outdoor patio is lovely so we enjoyed catching up in a beautiful setting. I'd go here to have a drink at the bar and maybe the zucchini appetizer but I certainly wouldn't go back if I was time pressed or wanted a meal. They have done absolutely nothing to be Covid friendly. Get that we have to be patient will everyone figures it out but Boonedock's has gone backwards. Closing at 9 during the ONLY busy time of the year seems ridiculous. Business must be good, just hard to believe. So as most restaurants are trying their best to prevent objects of contamination by presenting things as single serve Boonedock's is bringing condiments in full size bottles that travel between tables. I haven't seen salt and pepper shakers on table in forever, yep that's how they providing salt and pepper.
