I really wanted to try some authentic Kansas barbecue since it was my first time visiting the state and I'm an avid Texas BBQ consumer. The ribs were so good I definitely would recommend them again. Everyone on yelp recommended the corn pudding so naturally we had to try it and it definitely was not overhyped - it was freaking delicious! We also tried the burnt ends, a little fatty for our taste so I would definitely stick with the ribs. They also have really good BBQ sauce, and the potato salad was also really good. I discovered after we had already ordered that they will also make you fried okra, so a little disappointed I missed out on that. The place is run by a husband-and-wife and they are super friendly and will explain every menu item in detail so that you make sure you're getting what you want. I was in town visiting my son along with my Mom and he picked this place because he had eaten there before with his girlfriend and said it was amazing. He was right! Best burnt ends I probably have ever had and I am from Kansas City and have BBQ places all around me I have eaten at. Corn pudding was wonderful, sweet but not too sweet. I also chose the pea salad since it was hot and that did not disappoint either. My son had the Prime Rib (Saturday only) and I tried a bite and wow, so flavorful and cooked perfectly. Great food, fantastic service, a very good value for the money. Only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because they were out of ribs, and out of turkey legs, on the day we stopped by. I was really excited when I saw a well-rated barbecue place near where I was at. We recently moved to the area and have been looking for a great BBQ place. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the service and food. When I walked in the door, I thought the place looked clean and well decorated. I walked up to the counter where a man was. At that time a "regular" walked in and the guy behind the counter who still hadn't spoken to me said "pulled pork?, _____?" The regular responded in the affirmative and the man gave the order to the lady in the kitchen. Then he looked at me. I told him it was my first time there and asked if I could look at a menu. I ordered the pulled pork dinner that came with two sides and a slice of cornbread to-go and sat down at a table to wait. In about 10 minutes the man walked over to my table and laid the bag containing my order down then walked off without saying a word. ??? When I got in the car, I opened the bag and realized he hadn't included silverware or a napkin. Not sure how I was supposed to eat it? When I looked at the food, there was nothing "pulled" about this pork. This came in two big, fatty chunks and were swirling in a pool of oil. When I got home and pulled it apart to start eating it, there was so much fat that I only got a few bites before giving up and throwing it out. The flavor was fine but it reminded me of when I make a pork roast in my crock-pot ( before I trim the fat and serve it). On a positive note, the baked beans were very good. When into boones pickins today becuase i had saw a few reviews on yelp. I must say the best customer service i have ever had! The bbq was great i tried the ribs and pull pork sandwich. The sides i had were baked beans, potato salad, and mac n cheese. The meats were very well prepared great spice and smokey flavor also liked the varity of bbq sauces we got to choose from. Baked bean and potato salad were very tasty as well. The mac and cheese lacked the wow factor that the rest of the food had. I give the food 4 stars but the great customer service gave the over all experience a 5 star rating. read more

The only other barbecue restaurant in Andover is Billy Sims, and this place beats it hands down in every category. The burnt ends are off the chart good! I'm not sure why anyone would complain about fatty barbecue. Isn't that the whole point? The corn pudding is fantastic. The brisket is great, as are the ribs. My daughter and I stopped in on a Friday 30 minutes before closing time Phil the owner served us We got the mighty dinner with brisket and two sides of Mac and cheese I added a side of pea salad and corn pudding.the meal comes with a slice of jalapeño cornbread the meal is enough for two people the entire meal was delicious the brisket was perfect the Mac and cheese was flavorful and cheesy .the pea salad was unique and something I wouldn't have tried if it wouldn't have been recommended by Phil the pea salad is vinegar based with a little bit of onion celery and pimentos mixed in you can't go wrong eating here! read more

We were in the mood for some good BBQ and decided to give this place a try, so we stopped by a few days ago. First impression was good. The dining area is small but clean and the decor was nice and fitting for a BBQ place. We were quickly greeted and directed to a couple menus that were taped to the counter by the register. Apparently they had recently changed the menu up a bit and hadn't finished making the menus. No big deal. So we ordered. Prices seemed fair (providing that the food quality was adequate.. turns out it was not). I got the pulled pork dinner, the wife got a brisket dinner, and the kids both had ham sandwiches. The pulled pork was moist but lacked seasoning and any hint of smoke. The brisket was also tender and moist as well but also lacked the smoky flavor that makes good BBQ stand out from mediocre BBQ. The cole slaw was not good at all. The jalapeno corn bread was by far the worst tasting thing I've eaten in a long time. The mac & cheese was decent. I tried a bite of the kids' ham... dry and lacking in flavor as well. I really don't like to give bad reviews, especially when the people associated with the business are so nice but... that is why we use Yelp. We do this to guide people to good places and steer them from the bad ones. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place to others. This was my first time here and in all likelihood I will give this place another chance. I hadn't been to Andover in a while and this place was new to me. I'm a sucker for good bbq and this placed seemed to have great reviews, so I headed over for lunch. The place is small, yet clean and tidy, furniture was unique and well built, and staff was friendly. Meat was well prepared, but lacked the flavor in my opinion. Their best sauce was their "hot" it had pretty good flavor, but not a lot of hot. My friends liked their meals and for the value you hope it can continue to make it. I like supporting locally owned businesses so I would probably go again to see if I could up their rating to 4 stars. read more
