Located on culture-rich Douglas Ave and close to the intersection of two freeways, it is easy to find and has plenty of parking. The ceiling had noise dampening panels which made conversation easy despite lots of talkers in close quarters. Art everywhere made is a visual adventure. We return to Wichita twice a year and make it a point to visit Tanya's annually. The food was very good, although I do miss the soups of so many international flavors created by Tanya when she was alive. The current staff's carrying on of the restaurant is a tribute to Tanya. Love me a salad and soup for lunch! This will definitely e my go to lunch spot going forward! If you are a soup and salad person this is your place. I highly advise going at opening or well after the lunch hour because this place will have a line out the door. Either way go with the notion you will be on line or waiting for a table. Having said that, the place is small ( with the patio closed in winter) it is well worth the wait. I am a die hard Tomato and grilled cheese person so I had to try theirs for my first visit butting can tell you I was tough to not try other things on their menu. My friend got the potato soup. Tried Tanya's for the first time today. It was very busy so we did take out. I'll give you some thoughts on each item we ordered. Artichoke and spinach soup (not pictured): I didn't try it because it just isn't my thing. That being said, I have been told that it was decent. You'll have to try it yourself. City chicken sandwich: I did have a bite of this one. It's not bad, just a little messy which is probably due to the dressing. Olive: I honestly thought this was a sandwich named after someone as many places do this, usually naming a regular customer's favorite sandwich. I was wrong. This is a very creamy chicken salad sandwich with cashews, lots of herbs (not sure what exactly) and olives. This was a very creamy sandwich that doesn't work on rye bread. It fell apart after two bites. Not a deal breaker but I didn't care for the olives. I love olives but it just doesn't really work for me. It makes for a very salty sandwich. Potato salad: this is a red potato salad with herbs. It's not overly creamy, just a tad dry though that's probably on purpose. This was ok. They do give you a lot which you could probably share. Pasta salad: this is not a vinegar heavy pasta salad. It's actually kind of sweet. It does have carrots in it so if they are not your jam it's best to skip it. Again, it's a big portion and best to share. Not pictured was the roll that came with the order. It tasted like maybe a sourdough type of roll. It's a little dense which makes it good to dip in soup. All in all, not terrible. I would definitely like to try other things on the menu. read more

I am a 75 year old grandma. I went to eat at Tanya's with my daughter. We went in the afternoon after the lunch crowd. My daughter was ordering at the counter and she said, "mom go on and sit down". There were several empty tables so I sat down. The lady that was taking orders at the counter, stopped and walk around to me. She told me to get up from the table. I explained my daughter was ordering our food. She was rude and loud and ordered me to get up. She said I could not sit down until the food was ordered. So I got up, embarrassed, and walked to stand beside my daughter at the counter. Had the lady not left the counter to chastise me, our food would have been ordered already. Needless to say my daughter was livid. We left. But that's not the end of the story. You see, we own a clinic and several times a month, pharmaceutical reps will bring lunch for the staff. When they ask me what we would like, I usually said Tanya's. That will never happen again. I have shared this story with numerous reps and they were appalled. They are sharing with the other reps in their companies to avoid ordering take out dinners for offices From Tanya's. There is no good reason to treat customers this way unless 1). You enjoy bullying people around 2). You've gotten full of yourself and your business and feel the customer "will bow down" to your rude rules. Not so this time...or the next time. read more

I had a soup sooooo good, I had to call my uncle in NC and tell him he no longer makes the best soup gumbo!!! The Sandwiches are good and every soup is amazing. Loved it! Driving through town looking for a quick bite and arrived just in time to open the place up! I ordered the City Chicken and it did not disappoint. The sandwich was tasty and very well-balanced. The bun was perfect and not too filling. The surprise of the meal was the tomato basil bisque soup. Very creamy. Every sandwich comes with a bowl of soup. It was a great addition to the sandwich! The wait staff was quick too. This was our first time at the restaurant. My sandwich was supposed to have ham, swiss, and apple chutney. It had ham, no cheese, and spiced raisins. I was extremely disappointed. My soup was tasty, but only mildly warm. The potatoes were giant, unpeeled, pieces that required a knife and fork to eat. They were far too big for a bite. But, it was tasty. Service was at the counter and then the food was brought to the table. There was no one checking on you after the delivery. Prices were competitive. The atmosphere was cute, and the place was clean. We went there to eat lunch recently and while the food is pretty good, we were turned off by the staff openly/loudly criticizing people attending the Charlie Kirk memorial service at WSU as "Nazis". My soup was hot hot even when I got back to work with it. My grilled cheese was the "bougie" one with the purple onions and honey Dijon dressing. I might opt for a sourdough bread next time. So I switched to the takeout line but they asked for a backup soup choice since they were running out of Chicken Noodle (!). And the 5 stars go.... I love this place. When in Wichita on business, I always try to have lunch here, and I have tried almost everything on the menu. My favorite is the city chicken sandwich, although you can't go wrong with any of the other great sandwiches. There are salads, and you can do a half and half - sandwich and soup. Among the soups I like the tomato bisque and the white beans one. Service is so friendly you really can't ever complain. I like the outdoor seating during the warm months - although lately flies really have gotten a bit out of control. You have to try this place. I have never had something I didn't like at Tanya's. Absolutely everything is amazing from the soups, sandwiches, and sides, to the friendly staff. My personal favorite is the croquadille, which is essentially a grilled cheese on ciabatta with red onion and mustard. Really can't go wrong with ordering any one of the items on their menu.
