This place is great to grab a burger and a beer in the heart of downtown. I had the port wine burger it was one of the most delicious burgers I have ever eaten. The jam and blue cheese with caramelized onions was amazing. We had the Buffalo cauliflower which had blue cheese crumbles and was out of this world and a huge portion. We tried the deviled eggs and they were okay, they tasted pretty good, but if we came back we'd likely skip it for next time. The service was okay. This place is one of the great new places to hit up in LYH! They're burgers are large and fantastic, and they have a wide array of menu items to choose from! I sometimes dream about their rosemary truffle fries--INCREDIBLE. One thing that you shouldn't count them out for is dessert! We went to get milkshakes, and I ended up getting the fried Oreos. AMAZING portions, with four Oreos and a bowl full of soft serve ice cream dusted with cookie crumbs, I left feeling more content than I ever have getting dessert! The restaurant has a really sweet vibe to it as well--the mural on the wall is the most striking: woodsy area filled with almost hidden figures that pays tribute to the bootlegging industry that was once very popular in this area. Also there's plenty of space for parties at their high top tables as well as outdoor seating! All in all it's a great spot! I was in the area, and I am so glad I dropped by. The Truffulupugus was honestly the best burger I've ever had. The cooked spinach, onions, and mushrooms were perfect additions for the (very) juicy burger--lots of pink in the patty just how I ordered it! Also, I highly recommend the tater tots with the horseradish sauce. The sauce was perfect and went great with the tots, which really complemented the burger. The staff was very nice and the dining area is huge and looks very hip, and there was a nice outdoor area as well that seemed to be very popular. Happen to be traveling through and ran up in this place in Yelp suggestions. We decided to give it a try. First of all this place is located downtown Lynchburg and it was a pain to find a parking place and when we did it was several blocks away so be prepared for that, and walking, but hey a positive note you can walk to and from the restaurant burning calories...lol. Finally arriving we had a wait for about 30 mins for a table. We decided to wait outside with a river view it was a busy restaurant with music and people loud. Half of the restaurant is bar other side inside and outside seating. Everything cook to order as the kitchen was in viewing of main entry. Once finally getting seated we decided on an appetizer of tater tots with pimento cheese, sour cream, and bacon. Well it was a pile of taters but hardly any pimento cheese, hardly no sour cream, definitely hardly no bacon. BIG disappointment in the appetizer! We asked for ranch and none was provided. We decided on burgers, southern belle and Hunters Burger. Both burgers were cook to perfection, juicy, tasty, but not a lot of meat. The toppings were barely. For the price you pay you would think it would be big healthy burgers with plenty of toppings. NOPE!!! By far the best craft burger in town! The turkey burger is a DELIGHT. The lemon aioli and garlic jam make for a truly wonderful flavor. I usually order this but with a beef patty. My one complaint is that sides are not included, making this a pricier night out. Great selection of bourbon and usually good beer on draft. It's exactly as advertised, beer bourbon and burgers. My guess is they either get meat fresh of grind it themselves, the burger was exceptional. My wife had a bourbon cocktail which she enjoyed so much she had 2 and she is not much of a drinker. I like all sorts of beer so I tried the sampler, 4 beers, 4 oz each and all were very good. Service was really good. My only thought was, it's not really the sports bar we were looking for. 3 TVs in the bar and that was it. Good view too. You just can't beat a good burger. This place makes a good burger though I have to say I've had better. I can think of a few places that were much better but it's all about where you are and what's available. My wife had the bun less turkey burger and I had a mushroom bacon and goat cheese. Just as an unfortunate recent update, I went to bootleggers yesterday and the host did not greet me when I entered. He saw me and he turned and spoke to other servers behind him and then after about two minutes said hello and asked if I would like to dine in or carry out. I said I'd like to dine in and I also asked to be seated inside and when I asked for a slightly socially distanced booth he gave me a hard time and reluctantly sat me after I insisted that I didn't want to be directly next to the family of 6. I sat at the table for 15 minutes without being spoken to or acknowledged by any of the service staff or the host who sat me there. I sat so long in fact that I actually got up and left the restaurant without purchasing anything because no one said anything to me at all. The host even watched me getting up and said nothing at this point. I have been working in the restaurant industry since 2007 and this is by far my worst experience with service. It would be one thing if I could chalk it up to them being really really busy but since the restaurant is not open at full capacity it had to have been some other thing that caused them to target me. I was the only person of color in the restaurant dinning area and I was the only person who was not being served, helped, or acknowledged by any of the staff. I left my previous review up so that you can see how drastic my experiences have been. I loved Bootleggers and I just wanted to grab my first burger since COVID-19 and I couldn't even get served. Our burgers were delicious! My newest roommate just moved to Lynchburg and has never been off Wards road, let alone downtown Lynchburg. So I knew as soon as she told me she would come eat lunch with me that Bootleggers was the place to go. I explained to her how they have food options for all types of dietary restrictions as well as a delicious dessert menu. When we arrived the walk up the bluff was beautiful and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. We were greeted right away by the host who even gave us an option for a booth or table. Our server Meredith walked my roommate through the menu and made great recommendations for both of us. She was very knowledgeable, patient, and attentive. The restrooms were very clean, the ambiance was friendly and pleasant, the food was timely and cooked exactly how we wanted it to be, and again service was above and beyond. I would recommend Bootleggers to anyone wanting to experience the best of down town Lynchburg. I asked my roommate on the way home if she enjoyed the restaurant and she said "They have the best cheesecake and if all the restaurants downtown are half as good as that one we need to try them all." The food was good, we started with the artichoke and crab dip and it had good flavor. When ordering a burger they ask do you want pink? We both did and the burgers were cooked just right.My buddy got the Numero Uno and he enjoyed it, I got the Port Wine and Blue Cheese burger. It has a lot going on with pear chutney and garlic aioli along with applewood bacon and caramelized onions done in port wine. All the flavors play well together! Now the not so good as far as I'm concerned. One complaint I have is the fries are $2 add on, they are hand cut but no different than Five Guys. The fries need upscaling to match the burgers. If not then they should come with every burger. Another compliant I have is the burger needs to be flatten out some, it kept sliding off of the bun which I had to keep putting it back.
