Edited Review after awful first time experience. First time experience was bad from top to bottom. However, Bootleggers contacted me within hours of posting my review. I went back a couple weeks later to give it a second thought. My thoughts on the 2nd trip: The appetizers were very good, and the burgers were good. The burgers are not some unbelievable experience, but they were good. In my opinion, the food can be a bit expensive, since many (if not all) burgers don't come with a side at all, so you are looking at a good $12-17, depending on the side, which is a bit much, in my opinion. Service was fantastic the first time around; our waitress was on point. Customer service, starting from their response to my yelp review to my 2nd dinner there, was the best I have ever seen, bar none. Overall: Food is quite good, but not amazing (imo), hence why I won't give it 5/5. Customer service is phenomenal. The customer service honestly could deserve paragraphs of praise for how efficient, sincere, and on point they were. Prices as a whole aren't bad, except I think the burgers could be a little more affordable, considering they don't come with fries/side. I'll definitely go back at some point (I rarely eat out), and I'd definitely recommend it, especially for the appetizers. read more

This is my new favorite burger joint. It was absolutely amazing. The food was super fresh. I built my own burger with jalapeño pepper jack cheese and chipotle mayo...SO GOOD. We ate outside and the patio was super relaxing to sit on and just watch what's going on around Lynchburg. The only reason I give it a four is because the service we had wasn't the greatest. You could tell our waitress really didn't want to be there. Even when we first walked into the restaurant, we didn't get much of a greeting. We came on a Saturday night and were placed on a waiting list, however never saw them sit anyone during our ten minute wait despite 4 tables opening up and being bussed. I happened to see a recently vacated table on the patio and after asking the hostess, she told us to grab it while we could - SCORE! I don't know if it was the fact that winter is finally (almost) over and I needed that fresh air but I was happier than I should've been about sitting outside while I enjoyed my wine! There were nine of us in the group for a girl's day in downtown Lynchburg on a Saturday afternoon. We chose Bootleggers for one of our stops for afternoon drinks. We arrive at 2pm and the hostess said it was an hour wait. We explained to her that we only wanted drinks. She said that the only space we could use was at the bar. So, we meander over to the bar where there were only seven people. We stood there for fifteen minutes, and the bartender still hadn't acknowledged us. Finally, seven seats had freed up at the bar, so most of us sat down. He still did not even acknowledge our presence. It was like we were invisible. We had already gotten our drink order ready and summarized in anticipation for someone to help us. By this time. we had probably been there 30 minutes and still the bartender would not take our order. I called up the street to Three Roads Brewery and asked how long it would take for a beer order-"No wait" they said. When the bartender heard me relaying this to my group, he finally looked up and told us it would be just a few minutes. I asked him how much longer; we had been patient enough. He said someone else was coming on shift and would help us in a "little bit". I got the girls together and we left. They were not even busy or full. I highly recommend Bootleggers. It is located in down town Lynchburg over looking the water. The food was all amazingly good and the staff was very friendly. They have a small menu consisting of some apprizers and burgers. The burgers are custom creations offering combinations that make your mouth water just reading the menu. The one thing I LOVED was that the custom burgers on the menu CAN NOT be customized. They come as they are. If you don't like something, you can order a build your own burger with what ever ingredients you want. But it will be more expensive than the crafter burgers. I wish more places would have the guts to do this. I often go to dinner with my extended family and see them ask to take 3 to 4 ingredients out of a recipe and then complain because they didn't like their meal! Arrived at the restaurant, hours said didn't close until 9pm and arrived at 8pm. Door was locked and the hostess said they were not serving anymore that night due to staffing. Several groups were outside waiting with no communication. Two customers were locked out and couldn't get back in to their party. Poor management and communication. I travel for work and every time I visit a new city I try to find the hidden gems for food and Bootleggers is my hidden gem in Lynchbug. The location has a beautiful mountainous background so if you decide to eat outside you won't be disappointed, especially if you go close to sunset. The decor inside is simple yet complex. The detail in the pictures is not to be overlooked. On to the food... everyone who told me about this restaurant told me I have to go the for the burgers and they were not lying. Every selections sounds amazing. As a person who likes spicy food it was recommended I try the Ghostpepper Burger, the Southern Belle or the Hunter Burger. I opted for the Southern Belle and I think this was the best burger I've ever had in my life, no exaggeration. I did substitute a Turkey patty instead of beef, but I know no matter what patty you choose this burger is going to give you life. One down note is I will admit I didn't necessarily care for the parmesan truffle fries, but the burger was so good I didn't even care about the fries. I was also feeling under the weather and they were able to make me a hottie tottie that warmed my insides and made me feel so much better. Lastly, the cherry on top that made this whole experience come full circle was the excellent service I received from my server Sidney. Sidney was professional, helpful, courteous, pleasant and thoughtful. She checked on me regularly and went out of her way to make sure every detail was just right. Awesome atmosphere, super tasty food, and really great options. I've only been once, but I loved it. The restaurant is set in a garage-like building, with big doors that open up to patio seating that overlooks the James River, which they have open when the weather is nice. It really gives the whole restaurant a casual and comfortable vibe, while still providing high quality and even sophisticated food. Service could have been a liiiiittle better, only because our waitress was sort of awkward, but that could just be her personality or the result of a rough day. I have been before and had a great time with pretty tasty food. However, today as I go to celebrate my 22nd birthday with a couple of friends we ordered one drink a piece. The manager walks out a few minutes later and asks to see our IDs and we each hand them to him them. After looking at two Illinois IDs (one is 21 years old and one is 22 years old) he says, "I'm not sure about this one (pointing to the 22 year olds ID)". Without even thinking to scan them, he tells us that we will not be served.
