I also tried the Huelo Paniolo, which is an omelette with corned beef - this was just okay...they seemed to use canned corned beef. The service wasn't all that great and lacked the aloha spirit one might expect...some staff were friendlier than others, but overall it was just okay. The ambiance is very standard. I will say, the breakfast plates have gotten a bit pricey HOWEVER the portions are large enough to justify in my opinion. Boots and Kimo moved several years ago so the restaurant vibe is a bit different. Due to a shortage of staff, you line up to the right of the restaurant door (facing the restaurant) and someone comes out to take your order before being seated. This is a new process. There was a ruder younger male inside the door who told us we had to wait outside to be seated and then came out and rudely told us to move to the right. In spite of an obnoxious and rude employee we figured out the process and enjoyed our meal. The person who took our order and seated was very nice, definitely the Aloha spirit. We ate family style and ordered macadamia nut pancakes which as good as the first time we ate at Boots and Kimo. We also ordered fish and chips which were yummy and some Mochiko chicken (a little on the drier side) that came with some tasty Mac salad. We will drop in again during our next trip to gay sone macadamia nut pancakes which have been excellent every year. The pancakes are fluffy and a slight chewiness and the best macadamia nut pancake sauce (not really a syrup which is good). The restaurant is in a bigger mall so there is ample parking. The food is good, especially the pancakes. The location is a little further out but worth the drive. I would have given them 4 stars but the guy inside the front door was just unfriendly and rude. We had an early morning photo shoot and decided to get breakfast at Boots & Kimo after since we were already on the east side. We have been here before and each time the experience is a little different, but there are a few constants. First of all the food is amazing and will always be one of the reasons we come back, I always get the fried rice and Portuguese sausage and eggs or spam and eggs which comes out great every time. The only downside to the food is how expensive it is, for two plates it came out to over 50$ plus tip. second they still work with a Covid operation system; you wait outside in a line as one of the hostesses comes down and checks everybody in. Once you get to the front of the line she takes your order and has you go in and wait in line to pay for your food before you sit down. You would think with how long the line usually is that the restaurant is packed but that's usually not the case. We were surprised to see that an entire half of the restaurant was empty besides one group eating at one table. We asked if we could sit on that side since it had a football game playing on the tv but the inside hostess told us that the side is currently closed. I'm aware that they are experiencing a staff shortage but we've been coming here for the last 3 years and it seems like it's been like this the whole time. Third it always feels like you are being rushed to eat and get out. It is nice to get your food quickly but part of going out to eat is enjoying sitting down with somebody and enjoying the environment. The plates aren't that big so it doesn't take long to finish so after you are done eating there really isn't much to do since you've already paid. Plus you have a perfect view of the outside of the long line waiting to get in to eat as well. To be honest it felt like we spent more time waiting in line outside in the sun then we did actually inside the restaurant. Overall Boots & Kimo is a nice spot to go to every once in a while, the food is great but very pricey, and the atmosphere can feel a bit rushed. Visiting here has always been a tradition and a treat whenever we vacation--mostly for the macadamia nut pancakes. This visit, however, left us disappointed. BRING CASH--it avoids the credit card fee, though the 2.5% kitchen service fee and automatic tip are unavoidable under their current practice. My tip came out to almost 30%, far more than what I selected, and I only realized it after I got home. Tipping should come after service, not before. The lady collecting payment had no warmth or friendliness, and with only two of us, the extra charges felt excessive and, frankly, seemed unethically applied. It's hard to see a place we've loved for years, one that was once full of charm and care, lose some of the integrity that made it special. My bf and I came here for breakfast on a Sunday. There was a line outside the door, but it went pretty fast. You have to order before going in and pay before sitting down. I'd say it's convenient for the staff, but the service when you get seated is ok. I understand they're busy though so it's not that big of a deal. The food itself was amazing. I got the kalua pig omelette, which came with poi and lomi salmon, and a side of hash browns. The kalua pig was the right amount of salty. My boyfriend got the huelo panolo omelette and fried rice. The corned beef in the omelette was a little moist than we had expected, but it was still good. The fried rice had spam and was good. I've heard of this place and it's our first time here. Order outside with the guy and his iPad, then your table is waiting for you when you get inside. Very efficient. People were lining up as we were eating. The menu is huge so it takes time ordering for our party of 6. The foods a little pricey $20+ a breakfast plate maybe because it's a touristy restaurant? But the food was delicious. We had a glazed Mochiko chicken, Portuguese sausage omelet, Kalua pig omelette, macadamia pancakes and Kalbi breakfast plate maybe add 2 coffees and their special iced tea to a tube of $184 out of door. Sides were fried rice, white rice, mac salad and crispy hashed browns. Everything was delicious. Loved the macadamia pancakes - would have been nice if they put some Mac pieces on top. Since I'm from Aiea and had an errand to run in the Windward side, wanted to take this opportunity to try this place because I heard their food was really good. There was a long line to get in but this place has a pretty good system. They posted large colored menus on 2 of their front windows for your review. There's a person at the front that takes your order. Once done, they let you go inside where they have a cashier to pay for your food. What I thought was kind of strange was while paying, you would add the tip not knowing if you'd be satisfied with their service. I didn't give my normal tip because I wasn't sure what kind of service I'd be receiving since this is my first time here. Well, their service was awesome so will remember the next time I'm back hoping it will be the same. We ordered the "Full Stack" Banana Pancakes with "Kimo's" Macadamia Nut Sauce with the sauce on the side and the Homemade "Onolicious" Fried Rice. For the pancake, you can choose the 2-pc. "Short Stack" for $22.99 but for $1 more, you can get the 3-pc. "Full Stack" for $23.99. My husband and I shared both dishes and thought it was really tasty. I used the macadamia nut sauce for my pancake and my husband used maple syrup. Thought that the amount of "macadamia nut" AND "sauce" they gave on the side in a dish wasn't even close to what they usually serve for 3 pancakes when looking at the pics posted on Yelp. They didn't know it was only for my one piece which was just enough so I'm hoping if it wasn't, I would've been able to ask for more without an extra charge since this item is already pricey. As for the Homemade "Onolicious" Fried Rice, it was ONOLICIOUS! Haven't had fried rice this good for a long time...I would come back just for this! We had some leftovers but not enough to take home. Just wanted to mention: - When I went to the "Pay Here" booth, they seated my husband at our table. When I was done and went to our table, they had already served us the fried rice. A few minutes later, they brought our pancakes so the service was fast! We were out the door in less than 40 minutes! - There's a 2% kitchen service fee that will be added to all dine-in guests check. - They will add 18% gratuity for parties of 6 or more - This place is located in the Enchanted Lake Center, lots of free parking but pretty hard to find an open space. We did find a couple but the spaces are small so we found some parallel parking spaces in the back by Enchanted Lake Pet...yay, won't find extra dings on our car! - Workers/servers were very nice!
