Came here for the first time for an early lunch on a Sunday morning. This was my/our first time to any BoPoMoFo. Being a long time follower of WongFu Productions and Phil, had wanted to check out his place for quite the long time (just never could). It was surprisingly quite empty when we arrived (which was nice). Out of the 4 of us, we got to try quite the variety of items and drinks. STRAWBERRY CORN MILK (Cold pressed corn juice, sweetened milk, homemade sorbet) This was quite interesting. Never had I seen before a "corn milk" drink so i was quite curious to try this one. Definitely quite aromatic in terms of corn flavor, sweetened with sweetened milk, and a strawberry sorbet which adds kind of a unique brightness to the sweetness of the corn milk HEY SESAME MILK (Pure black sesame and honey puree and lactose-free milk) If you like any kind of chinese dessert regarding black sesame, this is the drink for you. Literally like black sesame and milk. Very fragrant in black sesame flavor SPICY POPCORN CHICKEN (dusted with house blend of spicy seasoning served with Thai Chili aioli) With a choice of DARK or WHITE chicken meat (friend picked white). Overall pretty good. The Thai basil aioli is pretty good. Adds quite the kick to it along with creaminess. MAPO TOTS (hearty mapo tofu, ground pork, and cheese on top of fluffy tater tots) This was probably the biggest "upset". Quite literally just mapo tofu ontop of tater tots. unsure what I/we were expecting. Was ok. Prob wont get again. HONEY WALNUT SHRIMP BURGER (quarter-pound 100% shrimp patty with honey-wasabi-yuzu sauce, candied walnuts, pickled jalapenos, red onion, shredded romaine on toasted King's Hawaiian Bun) If you are a fan of honey walnut shrimp, this is the item for you. PURE 100% chopped shrimp patty topped with the fixings on a toasted? (was it toasted? i recall this being cold...) King's Hawaiian Bun. Very delicious. Hard to ever find a "shrimp burger" anywhere besides variations of "shrimp toast" which is deep fried entirely. Probably my favorite food item ! The restaurant got quite busy during our meal with people standing around us waiting for their to-go order. read more

Bopomofo is famously owned by Phillip Wang of Wong Fu Productions, who has created great Asian American content on youtube for decades. Bo Po Mo and Fo are the Chinese ABCs. They have nothing to do with mofos. If you look at their menu, you could find offerings like Hojicha (Japanese Green Tea) with Corn juice, Green tea with sesame paste, and Peach Juice with black tea and Espresso. Their drinks can be eccentric. How I feel about their drinks is how I feel about ice cream from Salt and Straw. I can appreciate inventive, high-quality options; however, I feel that you sometimes can't beat simple offerings that are done well. What actually beckons me to come to BoPoMoFo is their outstanding food options. They have a delicious honey walnut shrimp burger, MaPo tofu tots, and a spicy taiwanese chicken sandwich. All of these are very delicious and inventive, with nostalgic and familiar flavors, and I'd highly recommend them. I typically pair my food with a humble Jasmine Green milk tea. Sometimes I get boba, but sometimes I do not - it depends on my mood at the moment. I generally like to order ahead so that I can avoid long wait times - particularly on weekends. read more

Their drinks didn't wow me the first time I visited (for their San Gabriel location), but I do like how their menu expanded over the years, so I was excited to try out their unique Taiwanese fusion food when I found out that they opened a location in Artesia. I got their chicken sandwich Mapo combo with the spicy chicken and tator tots no cheese. I loveeeeeed their Mapo tofu. The seasoning was perfect. The tots were also perfectly crispy. It was amazing while it was hot. As for their chicken sandwich, I liked it, but I would prefer my chicken crispier (or if the bun was a bit crispier). Overall, the food option was pretty solid and it satisfied my "junk food" craving. As for the Ba La Matcha - it was pretty refreshing, and a good drink to try out at least once. It was my first time here. I've tried to see if I can call in an order, but there was no phone number advertised online or through here (Yelp). So I ordered "to go" the walnut shrimp burger. It took almost 20 mins for my order to be ready. I was shocked that it took that long. Anyway, I got home and ate it and it was just "ok". I don't think I'll be coming here. Love coming here! The food is always very fresh and tasty. The servers are also really kind, helpful, and patient (even when I take forever to figure out what I want). The decor and overall vibe is very relaxed and open with really gorgeous wall murals. It's a nice place to chill out and enjoy a snack with friends. Taiwanese fried chicken sandwich: 5/5 I love this sandwich. The bolo bun adds a nice sweetness that contrasts well with the savory chicken. I also really like how the pickled items in the sandwich help cut through the richness and keep the sandwich refreshing. Mapo Tofu Tots: 5/5 Very unique and fun item! Notably, I have a pretty low spice tolerance (like sriracha is spicy for me), but this was manageable for me. It definitely had a strong kick and did build in spice a bit as I ate it, but it never got to be too spicy for me. My partner and I came on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty busy but the workers were really friendly and got the orders out as quick as they could. There are a few tables outside if you can't snag one of the seats indoors. We got the Taiwanese chicken sandwich (spicy) with tater tots and the pineapple bun was probably our favorite part since it was so crispy. I felt satisfied after eating just the sandwich alone! we also tried their milk tea and that was pretty good - not too sweet. We're from the San Gabriel area and occasionally we would visit the Bopomofo location there. This was our first time visiting the Cerritos location and this space is beautiful! I loved how high the ceilings were at this location and just made the space so huge! The seating here is smaller than the San Gabriel location, but it feels a lot more comfortable here for some reason. This location also isn't as busy and as packed as the San Gabriel one so that's a huge plus. Ordering was easy, getting a table was easy, and the drinks were made quickly! I ordered the Hoji-Corn Latte with 75% sugar and boba (free topping check-in!) and my bf got the Coffee Milk Tea. This was my first time trying the hoji-corn latte and it was surprisingly really good! The corn taste is very very subtle, which I didn't mind, but also wouldn't mind if the corn taste was stronger. The hojicha part of it was really good! The boba was nice and chewy, I think the boba itself could be sweeter, but still pretty good! My bf liked his drink at first, but he said it was too sweet for him the more he drank it. Must order Boba from here, they use high quality ingredients ( you can tell by the distinctive taste of their tea). If you are not happy with your drinks, the staffs will happily remake it for you. -Food: I have only tried their Popcorn chicken so far and o.m.g, excellent crispiness and flavors. I picked up a Jin Xuan Oolong with boba and the tea was smooth with a pleasant floral sweetness. I liked that there were many options, including a few plain teas and they followed my requests for no ice or added sugar. Today I had one of the best coffee drinks I've ever had in my life! (No offense, SB). But if anyone's interested please go soon because it's only around, I think, till the end of this month. It's a collab with Cafe 86 so it's called Bopo86 Affogato and described as a: "Honey sweetened oat milk mixed with Cafe 86 Ube ice cream and topped with with another scoop of ice cream and espresso poured over." It's a rich, flavorful drink, sweet yet not too sweet because it's balanced by the strong coffee. I'm not actually the greatest ube fan but this drink is so good it makes me wish I had known about this drink from the beginning of whenever it was first featured since I won't have a chance to go back to Bopomofo before November. Fingers crossed that it will be back next year (or sooner)! Also, what's great about this location is any time I've placed an online order it's ready when they say it will be and the order has always been correct. I don't usually like to visit the same place again when we visit SoCal because there are just so many new ones to get to, but we definitely made an exception for Bopomofo because I didn't get to try the food last time! I'm always unsure of how busy it is and I figured it would be crazy for a Thursday evening but it wasn't at all. I had ordered ahead online which is super easy and I love that their menu has pictures & descriptions of everything. Everything would be ready in about 20 minutes, so I really only had to wait a few minutes by the time I drove there! -Ba-La Matcha: even though I wanted to try the seasonal drinks, I had my eye on this one last time. I'm a huge matcha fan and guava fan so how could I go wrong? It was a little hard to mix at first but once I drank a little bit it was easier to mix. It tasted so good with the guava! It was refreshing, and the matcha was great quality. The drinks here are never too sweet which I love, even when I leave it at 100% sweetness. -Honey Walnut Shrimp Burger: this was a must-try for me. Have you ever had it anywhere else? Nope, exactly! It tasted just as good as you imagine. The shrimp patty is perfectly crunchy on the outside. I also loved the pickled jalapeño which added just enough spice. If I had to critique anything, I wish it had a tad bit more sauce because I usually think of honey walnut shrimp to be super saucy, but otherwise it was a very well executed burger! -Mapo Tots: you can add these on for only $3 more to your shrimp burger which is an awesome way to try the tots without getting a full order for $13. They were so delicious and tasted exactly like mapo tofu plus tater tots. The meat had some spice to it too in certain bites so just make sure to mix well and get a bite of everything! -Beef Noodle Soup Sandwich: this one was the winner for me. I thought I loved the shrimp burger but this one I could eat again and again. The meat is so tender, the bread is so soft, and the dipping "soup" is so flavorful. I will dream of this sandwich!! I would also like to add that we enjoyed this all as takeout back at home (parents on vacation trying to eat dinner after the kids go to bed....IYKYK) so everything is still tasting hot and fresh even after driving about 20 min in the car. I've never had such delicious and unique food at a boba shop before. Several friends already reached out about my thoughts and I've recommended everything I've ordered to every single one of those people. We went here on a Sunday right around opening and there were only a few people there so our drinks came out quickly! The staff was also friendly I got the Sparkling Sirap Rose! I didn't mix the drink very well so I ended up drinking all the syrup first. The mixture of the Rose syrup and club soda was very refreshing! I've had this place bookmarked awhile now but since I don't travel outside of the OC area just for food, it was sitting in the que begging for my attention. So while I traveled to Cluster FLAX (Cluster F at LAX), I stopped by here for some dinner. I ordered everything online before I left OC and requested an 830 pickup time. Exactly at 830, my food was ready, I ordered: -Honey walnut shrimp burger -Heritage braised pork belly -Ba-La Matcha The huge winner was the shrimp burger. WOW! I've never had anything that amazing and well balanced in a while. The shrimp patty itself was nice light and crispy on the outside and tender and tasty on the inside. I would want that shrimp patty by itself, YUM! Than the other surprising thing was this burger wasn't sweet at all. Huge plus for us since we don't like sweet mixed in with our main dishes. The Honey part of the burger wasn't overly sweet and complimented the burger so well. I liken the walnut mixture to a walnut chutney with some horseradish mixed in? The balance on that burger was *chefs kisses* I was disappointed when I took my last bite and wished there was more. For this burger $14, I thought it was worth the price since I've never seen a burger like this out there. The pork belly was also tasty and tender. I would get this again. Ba-La matcha was also really good but at at steep $6.75, it was a hard pill to swallow. I hardly drink boba anymore for this reason and coincidentally kinda kicked my boba habit at the same time. Perfect. Other things aligned for me tonight because they made a mistake making my drink and I ended up with 2! A cheapo's dream! My daughter and I finally tried this place for a quick lunch. We ordered two drinks and two meals for dine in. The braised pork belly rice was very salty. I had to add extra rice from my daughter to try and balance it out. The popcorn chicken with dark meat with a side of rice was delicious. The Tomato Egg Salad Roll was good, but not worth the price since it was pretty small. The Mapo Tots were spicy to me, but it was pretty good. The Orange Wang! was a delicious creamy drink. I'm a long time fan of bopomofo, and was planning on getting the ba la matcha per usual when I saw this limited Sip Blue drink, comprised of lychee juice, jasmine tea, coconut milk, and a natural blue dye, for their collaboration with the Dodgers, so I knew I had to try it. While it was a refreshing drink, it was a bit underwhelming, with a faint coconut flavor and a strong, yet mildly sweet lychee flavor. Can never pass up on bopomofo when I'm in the area! This location has plenty of parking shared with other businesses. Space is great with high ceilings and Asian art. I got the spicy popcorn with dark meat ($12). So good I had to eat it on my drive. I love the way they made the takeout box so the chicken doesn't get soggy. I also got the Strawberry Ginger Basil lemonade as I'm not a milk tea person. The highlight was the boba which is what I always look for. We were meeting up with a friend for lunch nearby and decided to stop in to Bopomofo Cafe to try a drink beforehand. This cafe seemed to be quite popular with the dining area crowded and a decent wait for drinks. When we arrived, there was only one person in front of us in line but surprisingly it took over 15 minutes to for our drink to finish. Assam Milk Tea, Large, 50% Sweet w/ Boba ($7.50) - The tea here is quite good and balanced well with the lactose free milk and the sweetener. The tea is fragrant, with almost chocolatey notes to it. The boba is a bit sticky, perhaps they soak the pearls in honey? They have a good chew, with the texture just a slight bit firmer than my preference. They seem to be under cooked just a tad, given that some pieces stick together into larger balls. For some reason, they decide to use a sippy cup lid so you aren't able to shake up the drink that well and can only stir with a straw. Bopomofo Cafe uses bamboo straws that are able to hold up to the drink. Even hours later, the straw still remains rigid without any parts sloughing off. Overall it's a solid drink. I came because my sister has been here before and she really liked it! I tried the Jin Xuan Oolong Milk Tea and it was sooo good. When ordering, I checked the sweetened box and my drink was perfectly sweet for me (I tend to like things on the sweeter side). The flavor reminded me of a Taiwanese tea bag that I love! Bopomofo is a 30 min drive from me but that doesn't stop be from coming by regularly. I will say, the popcorn chicken was a bit bland, so I would recommend getting it with spice. The mapo tofu tots are delicious. As for their drinks, I haven't really tried anything other than the jasmine milk tea. It's by far one of my favorites for jasmine milk tea, and I've converted all of my friends who have tried it to love it as well. Service is always great, staff are friendly. So happy they now offer a bento option! It comes with popcorn chicken (your choice of white or dark meat & spicy or non-spicy), regular or spicy slaw, & rice. The dark meat is much juicier. I only wish there was more variety, like an egg with it would be perfect. It was also all very salty. Most of the other people in the group had gone here before, but it was my first time trying it. Since it was later in the evening, I wanted a drink that wasn't caffeinated, and I appreciate that Bopomofo makes that obvious on their menu. One of our friends recommended the Strawberry Corn Milk, and it was delicious. I was sad I only got the regular size (they have a large). I definitely want to come back for more and try the other drinks too. For food I got the popcorn chicken and the mopo tots. Both were good, though I wish I got the spicy chicken. Maybe next time. VLT specialty drink - this was super good. It was like an upgraded lemon drink. It used the vlt lemon soda as a base and added coconut juice and other stuff. Super refreshing Vegan popcorn chicken - this was my first ever chicken substitute dish I've ever had so it was interesting. flavor wise this was just okay. Texture wise, there was a nice crisp but not as crispy as I'd hoped a popcorn chicken style dish to be.
