Had a very unpleasant experience here. My fiance and I came in because of an advertisement for a ring she thought would be perfect for her engagement ring. The games that were played with pricing and deflection (the shop owner was already talking about bridesmaids gifts before we even had details out on the table for the engagement ring) was ridiculous. She had my fiance hooked with her nice personality and grandiose stories, which is why I left her out of subsequent visits (hey, I was the one paying for it). The setting itself varied in price from $4,500 on an initial quote, down to $2,500, down to a neat $1,000 that fit "perfectly" in our budget (We eventually found the setting's designer's website - so much for "custom to our store" - where we could order it ourselves for $950). The diamonds she showed us were of terrible quality (L color and worse, at least 2 visible imperfections on all of them) and the prices (I verified with several jewelers we know) were 2-3 times "normal." Needless to say, we went elsewhere. As previous comments stated - it's a very small shop. I never saw another customer during my 3-4 visits. Keep that in mind, as stores this small rely on moving a small amount of volume at high profit margins (speculation, but accurate given the information we had at hand). I'd say it's worth avoiding entirely - there's much better custom at much more reasonable prices at just about any other jewelry store you can think of, and you'll avoid the guilt-trip sales pitching to boot. read more

I am so sad to read about the other person's unhappy and bad review for Boris Litwan's. We got my engagement ring there 15 years ago when they were still downtown. My setting is beautiful, hand engraved platinum with gold accents. I am still complimented on it and often. I even had another jeweler say I was ahead of my time picking it out so many years ago. Really BJ was ahead of her time picking it out and having it available in her store. I have had a few hand surgeries which caused me to need my rings resized on 2 different occasions over the years. This is no small feat on completely custom hand engraved rings. I do not have a lot of money to spend on jewelry right now. I am by no means their biggest or best customer but years pass and when I walk in the door BJ always remembers my name and gives me her full attention. She treats me like her biggest and best customer when I am with her. That is customer service other places just do not offer in today's world where everyone just wants the bargain basement best deal.
