One thing about me is, I'm always gonna check out a local bakery. I learned about Borrelli's Bakery yesterday at a pizza meet up. This morning, I decided to swing thru on my way to see my mother. On Charles St in the north end of Providence, this quaint spot proudly announced itself to the neighborhood with the building and trash cans matching the Italian tri colors of their open flag waving in the wind. Inside was a gorgeous selection of pastries, prepared foods, breads and more. I was there for two reasons, pizza strips and zeppole. My targets were acquired, plus an apple turnover and I took my goodies to Bristol. The strips delicious, soft but not mushy. They still have some chew to it but it gave easily when you bit into it. The sauce was generous and garlicky. Every bite made you want to take another! I'm glad I got two! The zeppole was great. The pastry was crisp and tasted fresh. The custard was similar to vanilla pudding in taste and very smooth, too. They put just the right amount. It was easy to eat where you had filling in each bite but it didn't overflow and make a mess. Finally, the apple turnover was awesome. The pastry was flaky and a little extra crispy from the sugar crust on top. The apple filling was all the way through the pastry, so even though we split the turnover three ways, each of us were able to have the same experience. Overall, I am pleased to have found this spot. I'm definitely coming back. I now have 4 places off the top of my head within 10 minutes if my house to get fantastic pizza strips. Super happy about the recommendation! read more

This was my first time visiting this local Italian bakery and it will not be my last. I came in to buy party pizza for a get together I was invited to and ended up leaving with a box of pastries, breads, and wine biscuits to take home. Everything looked fresh and delicious and it was impossible to not walk out of there with an assortment of things to try. The person behind the counter was friendly and even threw in a bag of pizza chips for my kids because they wanted to dig into the pizza strips we were bringing to the party! read more

In terms of quality, Borrelli's is a solid source for authentic Italian-American baked goods. The bread is classic RI Italian bakery, thick crunchy crust, elastic, chewy (not gummy) crumb, mild but flavorful. Borrelli Pastry is hit or miss, excellent when you get Italian pastry like Biscotti has a long shelf life, as do wine biscuits, but stuffed pastries like cannolli, sfogliatelle and zeppola need to be had on the right day. Their pastry can be disappointing when it's not an Italian staple (avoid the french or American pastries, ie cupcakes and brownies etc.) and you need to get there early on bake days because they often sell out. read more

Broccoli Calzone - 4 stars A little too much black pepper. The star of the show is the dough. Just place it in the air fryer for just a few minutes. So yummy! Eggplant Calzone - 2 1/2 stars Where is the eggplant? Very little filling. Again the star of the show is the dough. Pizza chips - 3 stars Too dry...prefer LaSalle Bakery is much better. This place is an absolute joke. 5$ for a chicken parm calzone. I knew something was off when she handed it to me and it was as light as air. It was pretty much just all bread. After five bites of nothing but bread, I opened it up to find three measly little pieces of chicken and some sauce, chicken is not even breaded and there's no cheese. Worst calzone I have ever had! Amazing little bakery sitting right in Providence! The pricing on the pastries were amazing! Got some cannoli's, a cinnamon roll and a bismarck. We ordered from Borrelli's on Uber Eats this afternoon in the midst of a major sugar craving. We ordered the Bismark and mini Boston Creme. They were out of the Boston Creme and were very kind to send us a Boston Creme cupcake and a chocolate Boston Creme instead, but I wish they had just called us and let us adjust our order ourselves. I would have tried their eclairs instead, since I'm not a big fan of chocolate on chocolate desserts. The Bismark was by far the best of the three. The whipped cream and raspberry jam were both incredible! The donut tasted pretty standard, nothing special, but I thought the two sides were each too thick to eat the whole thing together. The chocolate Boston Creme was also good, but just a bit too much chocolate for my taste. It has whipped cream on top and a thick layer of chocolate ganache sandwiched between two layers of chocolate cake. It all tasted good, but I could only handle eating one layer of the chocolate cake at a time, lol. The Boston Creme cupcake was a big disappointment. The cake itself was soggy, and the creme on top was hardened so that it all broke off when you took a bite of it. Such a bummer, because Boston Creme desserts are usually my favorite! read more

They SUUUUUCK. Every time I order they cancel it because they don't have the items they advertise. POS business.

I live nearby and have always liked their rolls. I went in yesterday to buy some. When I parked my car in front, there was a man walking towards the bakery. I walked in first and he walked in right after me. He walked in right behind me and proceeded to go behind the counter and stuck his hands in the soft rolls and grabbed a handul then stuck his hands in again and grabbed more rolls. My jaw dropped. He didn't wash his hands., or put on a glove or use a tissue paper! The woman behind the counter could see how shocked I was and said to me these exact words," I can't believe he did that in front of customers!" Which implies to me he does this often. Needless to say I did not buy any rolls nor will I be going back there! Very unsanitary and totally gross! read more

Staff is friendly and helpful. Slightly problematic that I live 2 minutes away. All of the pastries are amazing. The frittata and calzones are perfection. So very inexpensive. Pies are made to order. Need a quick gift? Cookie trays, pizza chips and rum cakes are available. read more

I'm only judging this based on the few pastries I bought and ate on two different occasions. I'm not sure why I ever went back a second time, perhaps it's because I was too lazy to go an extra five minutes and get something better. My big issue with Borrelli's Bakery is that they sell nearly identical things as any other bakery at double the cost. There are handfuls of bakeries around that sell the same stuff at half the cost or less. For example, $3.50 for an eclair, tiny piece of cheese cake, small whoopee pie-like/cookie thing, etc, can all be bought at other bakeries for $1.00-$2.00. I understand this is a small business, but so are all the other bakeries where I find the exact same stuff a lot cheaper. Don't think I'll be going back here. read more

I have much respect for these old style family bakeries. This place was a no frills, worn out rusty spot. They owned a side building where all of the action takes place - you can hear the machines going to work. I've visited numerous bakeries in RI - so I can only compare. I ordered their basic hard bread sliced with the chewy moist inside - yummy. The outside texture was right on (crusty and flakey) the inside was a little off - it wasn't as chewy and moist as I had imagined or experienced. It was somewhat dry. Their prices were good, but didn't have as much as a variety as I'm used to. I was looking for spinach pies and they didn't have any. I've been pursuing sliced bakery bread lately instead of sliced bread at Stop N Shop. If I'm in the area I'll stop here again ... but not my first choice. read more

I stopped by this bakery seeing the one I went to earlier didn't have pizza chips with hot peppers and that was another craving I was having for a lazy Super Bowl Sunday. What a joke of a bakery. They screwed up everyone's orders for Christmas. Lines were over a 30 minutes wait and every person walked out disappointed. The employees were incredibly rude, yelling at customers whose orders they screwed up in the first place. Throwing boxes across the counter at customers. Literally yelling at a line of over 20 people, that just realized they're not getting any of their pre-ordered desserts, that we were the ones being wrong for being upset about it. Imagine! An Italian bakery getting the most important Italian holiday wrong. Save yourself a huge headache and go elsewhere. The desserts we did get (that were available, not the ones we ordered) sucked. read more

i ordered as required a traditional style easter bread (the kind with the whole egg baked into it). easter morning i go to pick it up & am told 'we don't make that'. really! so why did you take an order you couldn't meet leaving the customer marooned? we all know easter is a busy time for many businesses but if you're thinking about ordering something from borrelli's maybe you should think again. it seems they can't say no to a customer even though their unable to deliver the goods. i guess it's their business & they'll treat the customer any way they like. read more

I'm surprised to see only 1 review for this joint. I was able to get off of work early one day and on my way home wanted to surprise my girlfriend to lighten up her day with some treats! This place was right on the drive home ( less than 1 mile) and I stopped in. Parking on the street as sparse, but that's not their deal :P The woman I spoke with was VERY helpful with me and walked me through EVERY dessert that they had available which was fantastic because, coming from the south, I was not familiar with all these New England baked goods. I settled on what's called a "Magic Bar" that has just about everything in it. I had to refrigerate it because we didn't eat it at first and it was delicious from the first bit to the last. It was a little bit crumbly, but still great and lasted a while I also got a Bismark which was absolutely wonderful. It had a berry drizzle on the bottom which was very tasty and, what I presume to be, a homemade whipped cream with wonderful sweet bread. REALLY hit the spot there. Then for myself I got a Cheese Danish I think it was. Cherry flavored. Absolutely perfect. Great flakey bread, tasty filling. I LOVE this place and I anticipate going back regularly! read more

Went here a few times to get a huge calzone called the Godfather based on my SIL's recommendation. Very good for those parties where you want good food that your guests can pick at. They offer the standard pastries you would see in many bakeries, but there isn't a huge selection as this place is tiny. They make these wine biscuits that are so authentic & just like my mom's family used to make. I will continue to frequent this place for them alone...nostalgic & delicious! The woman who waited on my was adorable. She was an older lady that beamed with pride for her baked goods. And she was so sweet. Another plus in my eyes. I love this joint! It's an old school bakery with amazing treats and great bread/calzones. I like the pizza chips a lot and the godfather calzone ring is always a crowd pleaser at parties! There are times where consistency isn't always the best. One day I had an amazing sausage roll, and a couple days later I bought another one and it was hard and cold. However, the price point is great, and I can say they have the best butter ball cookie I've ever tasted! read more

I recently purchased a home just up the hill from this Borrelli's location, and I'm so glad I did! My grandmother used to take me to Borrelli's for special treats as a child, and now I can walk to mine! They have wonderful soups, cookies, pastries, dough, dipping oil, all kinds of lunch options.....this is a GREAT bakery and they never let us down! We especially enjoy the wine & pepper biscuits! The Italian Wedding Soup and chicken soup are excellent. DEFINITELY give them a try....you'll be glad you did! read more

I've lived practically next door to Borrelli's for over 3 years and it wasn't up until a couple of months ago that I actually walked in here. The only things I've ever purchased the 2 times I've been in are pastries; it's pricey but good, fresh ingredients. I don't know what's happening but the food and the food grade is going downhill fast they don't carry spinach pies anymore The people are all miserable maybe owner too tired I'm not sure but it's too bad it was a good bakery in the area not anymore going to hell. Borelli's is such a treat! We live in Florida and always visit Borelli's on Charles St. whenever we are in the area. Their service is impeccable! I just placed an order over the phone, from Florida so that my son, who is visiting relatives in Providence,could pick it up as a surprise for his family on his way home!
