I took my car to Borst Automotive for a second opinion on three major maintenance recommendations I had received from the dealer's service shop following an oil change. Car was towed here asked them to check battery, and the alternator since the light on the dash was indicating the alternator. All they did was check the battery. Told us it was just a bad battery and that the alternator was just fine. Made it about 5 miles the light came back on there we sat stranded again. Not happy that we specifically asked them to check the alternator and they obviously didn't do it. Costing us a extra 300 dollars to have the battery replaced. read more

Borst auto company certainly is not very transparent with their customers regarding repairs. My vehicle was repaired without my prior approval for an item that was not defective. Whether it was an error or not.. they decided to repair the part which was the most expensive i.e., $693.00 and not defective, and defer the less expensive repair for later. I came in to get one problem with my overdrive fixed and ended up getting some other recommended work done on my car with them after getting a rather pricey "full inspection". I was told that I had a rear main seal oil leak which would cost well over $500.00. From that point on I checked my fluid levels daily as well as the fluid under my car, and saw that I was not leaking oil, but transmission fluid. After coming in three more times because the initial overdrive problem was never fixed I went to a different mechanic that someone had recommended to me. As I suspected, there was not an oil leak. They botched the seal job when they changed out my transmission fluid. I got the overdrive fixed elsewhere for a third of what I paid them not to get it fix it and I cringe to think about what would have happened if I had paid for that "oil leak" to get fixed. It was also a kick in the teeth when I found out how much I overpaid for everything else I had done with them. The customer service is pretty good I will admit, but I wouldn't let them touch my car again even if they were paying me. read more

Borst automotive uses robocall telemarketing on Saturdays when they are closed and the calls start going out at 8:01 am. They have rousted me from sleep two Saturday mornings. This morning I came off ten days straight of work on call for a funeral home at night. I notified them after they did this the first time and they ignored me and continued with their harassment at 8 am. They wanted me to write a review so here it is. They wanted $800 to replace a water pump and a thermostat on my Cadillac and I am having the work done at a little shop in Tucson for $345. Borst is a ripoff and they have no respect for their customers and their private lives. They have their own self promotion agenda and disregard and disrespect their customers right to privacy and peace in their lives. Screw Borst Automotive and the ignorant bastards that are incapable of following simple directives to leave me alone once the job is done. I made it clear the first time they screwed up my sleep that if there were a problem with their work I would notify them immediately, but they have a telemarketing agenda that does not take into consideration the rights of their (now former) customers. I was a fairly regular customer here for a few years. I used to even recommend them to others. Borst was always more expensive than other mechanics I went to, but I went here out of convenience and also because I thought they did a good job. I always paid the bills and never really caused any issues. However the last time I went here I was treated very strangely by the people who work there-- people who I'd interacted with before several times when I went in as a customer. The one person at the counter talked to me like I was dumb or something and the other one kept staring at me... like I was an alien with an extra arm sticking out of my head... It was very strange and their behavior made me feel extremely uncomfortable. It's a very uncomfortable feeling when you look up and every time you look up, the person is just staring at you and giving off a strange vibe... I have no idea what happened that caused them to treat me in such a weird way after all the times I'd gone there. Because of the strange behavior and hostile/ uncomfortable atmosphere, I've stopped going to this place. Thank goodness there are other mechanics in town! I prefer not to go here anymore but if I'm desperate then I'll use them as a last resort. I also no longer recommend this place to others. Why would they treat a customer who's supported them for so many years in such a strange way? Update 2/20/15-- Wow, what a strange response from the business manager to a very real review. When I went in here last time I was treated strangely by the people who work there, and now he's saying I'm not a real person / customer? That my reviews are fake? Went to Borst after seeing a Groupon for an oil change and inspection for $19. An awesome deal! After the inspection was completed, I was shown a list of items that needed to be repaired on my vehicle. This would have been great if the prices were reasonable. I was quoted for new rear brakes for $330. I kindly refused the repairs and drove down the road to another business where they were replaced 45 mins later for $180, almost 50% less than Borst. I can understand that small businesses have to make their money somehow, but overcharging for services is not the way to go. read more

I called and had my alignment done and the gentleman on the phone was very courteous. When I arrived the lady at the front desk, not sure of her name, was very knowledgeable. Sad to report on work my mother had done on her 2000 car that she got out of storage after years of being parked in this heat after dad passed away. She was very weary of what could be wrong with it and wanted to have any and all possible repairs done by a 'good' repair shop. She found Borst by doing as much research on line and checking listings of the good, the bad, and the ugly. They feel under decent to good. I was appalled when I found out what they were charging her for some simple things and then some of the things they promised to do, charging horrible rates for and then to find out not only were they flat out lies, but leaving the car awfully unsafe. They had a little Escort out front for sale when I took her by one time I took a look at for sale. Found that it was the Manager's mothers old car and maintained here at this shop. The car was in horrible shape and it was sadly picture perfect proof of just how they would take care of any mother. Couple of the worst pieces of this experience was the price she paid for the battery and then again for all the tires and the warranty is only good at this one horrible shop. Nearly any other shop, such as Pep Boy's or Discount would have been good for that and warrantied nation wide. Strongly recommend that you do not take this place for more than 5% of what they tell you and GET A SECOND OPINION before you let them rip you off. read more

They have the know-how required to do detailed electrical work on your car. AAA likes them. They have complementary ride service cookies popcorn and soda are also included. After getting roadside assistance for a dead battery, the driver gave me a coupon for a free oil change at Borst. They changed my oil and gave me a printout stating the following. Water pump leaking, hoses and thermostat needs replacing need brake and transmission flush. Brake calipers leaking, and fuel pump ready to fail. I took the vehicle to my mechanic of 5 years, and he went over the list at no charge. There was nothing he could find on Borst list that was true. This vehicle is a 1999 Pontiac grand am with only 35,000 miles on it. If anything on Borst list was true I certainly would have given my long time mechanic and friend the opportunity to repair it. I guess its true, nothing is free. You get a free oil change and then they try to scare you into thinking there is all kinds of things wrong with your vehicle. Poor service, very expensive and slow. I have had my car serviced by Borst many times in the past. I always knew they were on the expensive side as well as slow, but I though they were worth it. I was very wrong. On this last visit among other things they were supposed to do a minor fix on my air conditioning system. Not only was the car returned to me not fixed, it took them all week. I had a great experience Borst. They were very thorough in explaining what work my car did or did not need. I appreciated the job list they emailed to me with pictures and a full price estimate. They are very upfront w/ all aspects of the work. They also kept me up-to-date on the status of my car, especially because the work took a bit longer than anticipated. I also appreciated the use of a loaner car. Everyone is very courteous, friendly, and professional. I highly recommend Borst, even if you live in the Cat Foothills as I do. Just had our 2002 Ford Ranger's engine and radiator replaced in September. Painfully expensive, but since when is a major car repair not painful or expensive!?! Went to Borst because I needed air conditioning service for air conditioner not working (no cool air). Borst found the problem, a leaking air compressor, which they fixed. They also found and fixed a couple of other minor issues that needed fixing. I have been very satisfied with the quality of work on my cars at Borst. If you wanna meet people who give the auto repair industry a bad reputation, this is the place to go. I brought my VW Jetta there on 1/27/16 to be fixed on an insurance claim. The State Farm rep came there on the 29th, the following week they sent State Farm an estimate for over $4000 in repairs. The problem being they were trying to scam the insurance for everything that was wrong with the car. Not what was a result from the accident. Included in the estimate was everything from brakes to windshield wipers. Apparently this made State Farm skeptical so they sent another rep on February 10th. At that point the insurance denied the claim. They sent a second estimate which just included the transmission problem and an airbag light. They insisted that the problem with the airbag not deploying in the accident was $1070 to repair. Again the claim was denied. So I called to say I was coming to get the car, I was told there was a charge of $212. I asked for what and was told it was for diagnostic tests. I was aware of one test but not the second. I was told that they asked me about the air bag problem over the phone and that I said ok to that. I was called but wasnt told there would be additional charges. I went to get the car on the 25th and explained the issue of the second charge to a woman at the counter. She said I had to pay the full amount or I wasnt getting my car back. After about 10 minutes she then asks me if I will pay $160. I reply yes seeing that my car is being held hostage. I pay her, get in the car and notice a light on the dash . I go back and tell her the problem, one of the guys comes out from the back and says its just a tire sensor. Also on the 4 mile drive from the shop to my house the "service engine" light comes on. So to sum it up, I went there with 1 problem and now have 3 without these people supposedly not doing anything to my car and am $160 lighter in the wallet to boot. We just got our car from Brake Max on Harrison where we took it to be repaired after Borst worked on it. First, it was incredibly expensive for what we got done. Second, they didn't deliver it as promised. (They asserted that the replacement part was defective.) Third, they tried to upsell on stuff that actually wasn't needed. Fourth, they failed to reconnect the cooling system so that we were incredibly lucky it didn't overheat on me since this is summer in Arizona. Never again. read more

I asked them to look the vehicle over because I was going to be making a long trip soon. they came up with a list of $1400 of repairs that were URGENT or I would break down on the road. I went to Jack Furriers on 1st (whom i have gone to for 6 yrs) and they said the majority of the list is BS. They came up with only ONE needed repair of less than $200. I have tried several times to do business with this company and every time I try I ask for quotes and they are so far off in their estimate if is cost prohibitive to do business with them. All I can suggest is call other auto repair shops and ask for a detailed estimate. Be advised,....you can NOT provide your own part(s) for Borst auto to use in the repair of your vehicle. They charge every bit of the full retail price and then some. I actually received a quote for the part they wanted to use to repair my Corolla that was more than twice the retail price of the local Toyota dealer and they were going to use an after market part which actually cost less. I've taken my 2000 Toyota Camry here twice for urgent repairs, the first because my check engine light came on two days before emissions testing, and the second because the rear doors popped open and wouldn't stay shut. Both issues were taken care of within a day or two, but more importantly, they were taken care of RIGHT. I've taken my car to other cheaper shops that made mistakes and took just as long, but Borst prides themselves on getting things right the first time, and I will take that over a cheaper option anytime. They are pricier than other shops, but I've never had any issues with them, and they even call you throughout the day to update you on your vehicle, and have pick up/drop off service. The lady who always works at the front counter is also super knowledgeable and straightforward about what the problem and cost is, and doesn't spring any hidden fees or charges on you at checkout, something I think we can all appreciate when at the shop. If you've got the means to pay for top quality work and customer service, this is the place to go, otherwise, you get what you pay for. read more

Peace of mind while I'm driving my vehicle is very important to me and Borst gives me peace of mind. I took my car to Borst in Tucson for an estimate on an oil leak. After receiving it, I was on my way home and I noticed my car was shaking/vibrating for some reason. I knew this wasn't how I brought it in so I called them about it and they said to come on back. I drove all the way back and Borst took it back to their repair area and looked at it again. They proceed to tell me the problem and my response was simply this, "That problem did not exist when I brought it in." They wanted me to think that the problem already existed by that was impossible. It existed only after they had their hands in my vehicle. They damaged it to the point that I could no longer drive it and in fact, I had to have it towed from their shop. read more
