If you're looking for authentic food in touristy Key West, head to BO's! This cute bungalow serves up typical Keys fare, from fish tacos to sandwiches. It was so hot outside we started off with ice cold beers, then ordered the fried snapper sandwich. The snapper was fried perfectly and was not over-battered, which a lot of places do. My wife questioned my decision to eat here. But after meeting Holly, one of the owners and hearing about the menu we were hooked. They don't have a liquor license but suggested we get a drink across the street and bring it back. Bo's is in the corner of a parking lot near the marina. This place lives up to the reviews. We started with a few conch fritters, which were the best we had on the island. My wife had the ahi tuna tacos and I had the cracked conch. The cracked conch was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Great food! The atmosphere is definitely Keywest. It is basically an opened shack built around a food trailer. My wife had the soft shell crab sandwich. She usually gets that if a restaurant serves it. She said it was one of the best. I had the conch sandwich because it's not something I see in ft lauderdale. It was good but conch in general isn't very flavorful the pieces of conch was plentiful. My son and daughter both got the burgers, they were oblong shape on cuban bread and very juicy and tasty. I didn't get a chance to photograph the burgers because the kid were scarfing them down so quickly. It's sort of a shack on the corner that looks a little beat up. We took a chance and ordered a cafe con leche and an iced coffee. Plus a bacon/egg/cheese on Cuban bread. All were terrific! I'll admit, I didn't come to this shack expecting to rack up a $50 bill for two for lunch but hey, that's what we did and it was worth it. At 4pm, we didn't have to wait in line or fight to find a place to sit. I heard they had one of the best fish sandwiches in the Keys so we both went with that. At "market price," we learned when we were paying that they were $18 each... No turning back now! We were very hungry so decided to also get conch fritters and I grabbed a key lime-ade (with unlimited refills!) to drink. There's not a ton of seating but we made our way around the counter to one alcove. After about ten minutes, our food arrived hot and ready to eat! Let's start with the conch fritters, these were some of the best (if not THE best) I have ever had. You could see the pieces of conch and veggies that went into them. We ordered six but they're so filling, probably would've been fine with just three as a "starter." Now for the fish sandwich... Wow! The bread was the kind that didn't cut your mouth up with every bite (always a blessing). The pricy piece of fish was cooked perfectly and topped with onion, tomato, lettuce and mayo. I added some Crystal because, well, everything is better with hot sauce. I don't think either or us came up for air while we stuffed our faces. Maybe it was because we were starving, maybe it was because it was that good. I think it was probably both. Next time, I'll try the soft shell crab sandwich. As my friends giggled and pointed to where we were about to eat I wondered if this would be a friendship ending deal. After all, my friends know me. I can be a priss. I own it. Yet, here I was walking at sundown into one of the shadiest looking places I have ever seen in Key West. It's a dumpy shack with paper towels as napkins and picnic tables with benches for seating. You can barely see the entrance because of it's um, appearance. But, I trusted them and apparently I was right to do so. They promised me the best conch fritters Key West has to offer. They were dead on! These were the best damn conch fritters I have ever had. Ever. They paired perfectly with my beer too! I hope no one saw me lick my fingers bite after bite. The mayo concoction that comes with them was AMAZING. We had to order an extra because SOMEONE (cough Marisol F. cough) kept eating it all. I kid, I kid, it was all me. I kept stealing it (she was right to say she wasn't sharing the next time she came which happened to be with me. She ended up sharing and I ended up eating it all! poor Sol! She should have stuck to her guns) Needless to say, this will be an absolute priority on my to-do list every time I visit Key West from now on. The only exception is that next time I will be wearing my finest flip flops, ponytail, bathing suit and beach cover up instead of being ready for a night on the town. For months, I had been reading about Florida's famous grouper sandwich. I had read about it in tourist magazines, Yelp and Tripdvisor. I finally was able to try the Famous Grouper sandwich today at B O's Fish Wagon. B O's is basically a covered shack with a kitchen in the middle and seats on the two sides. You order at the front counter, then look for a seat. The family and I weren't really hungry, so we got one grouper sandwich to share. The sandwich is at Market Price. Tourists have really driven up the market price of this sandwich, as I don't think the locals eat it. It took them 10 minutes to fry up the fish and assembled my sandwich. The sandwich was pretty large and had a big piece of grouper in it. Inside the sandwich was lettuce, tomatoes, and tartar sauce. My wife and I both thought the sandwich was overhyped. It was okay, but, not amazing. B O's is an A OK type of place for a grouper sandwich. Service was good. The sandwich was okay. But it was a letdown for me after hearing so much about it. Key West is an amazing place with beautiful landscaping and all sorts of attractions (each one more lovely than the last), but there are the typical not so attractive too; like the municipal parking lot on Caroline Street. As you walk across the lot there's this arrangement of trash and scrap wood that as you approach turn out to be an oasis of coolness. The dilapidated pile of rubbish transformed into a very well arranged and comfortable restaurant. In the center of the "hole in the wall" is a trailer (kitchen on wheels) where they serve customers "fast casual" style (order/pay at counter and wait for food delivery to your table). First time I was hesitant, after all the place is made up of trash, but as the old adage goes "one man's garbage is another man's treasure". And the vibe is happening, not to mention that there is a steady stream of customers every time I have been here. Conch fritters are a highly recommended must have. First and only place that I had conch fritters with large, noticeable pieces of conch, great seasoned filler/breading and cooked perfectly. I also recommend the grilled fish of the day sandwich or soft shell crab sandwich. Mmmm getting that conch fritter craving just writing about it. Food is a high four (close to a five) but rather expensive so no way could I give the hard-to-recieve five star, but don't hesitate to try this winner out. read more

I've been coming to Key West since 1984 and today was my first visit to BO's Fish Wagon. The place looks like a true dive from the outside, but it is clean and tidy in a very island sort of way. There are picnic tables and a self ordering counter. Your food is delivered by kitchen staff. The menu is on a chalk board and currently only soft drinks are served. There is some issue with the city and the liquor license to be worked out. You order your food at the counter. Sandwiches, platters and sides. Nothing fancy. The currently in season soft shell crabs were on the menu at a bit higher price. BO's is not an inexpensive lunch. The platters for example consisted of 2 average sized pieces of fried fish and coleslaw priced $24.95. The 2 small soft shelled crab platter $26.95 and included beans and rice. The black beans and rice had an interesting mixture of onions, green olives and capers. Our party of 5 all enjoyed our meals. One in our party had the Cole slaw dog. It was a big bun with a large hot dog smothered in Cole slaw. Another enjoyed the conch platter and said it was excellent. Also shared were the tempura onion rings which were crispy and large. Our meals were quite tasty. The total for our lunch of 2 platters one soft drink and one tea came to $60 + tip. My reason for a three star rating does not reflect on the quality of food but on the high price for lunch in a dive cafe. Update a year later & I finally got to eat here!! I went straight from the ferry to the area and ordered a conch sandwich and lime aid. It took about 20 min for the food to come out but was damn tasty! I'd like to go back while I'm here to try other items on the menu as well. Tried to go here twice! Once midday and the gate was blocked so we went back at 8:45pm after checking the hours which says open till 9:30pm. There were a few people at the window but the opening was blocked again.
