On a scale of Tofurkey to Thanksgiving Turkey Bosphorus is the entire feast! Turkish food at its finest! I used to eat lunch here almost every week from 2002 until probably 2008. I started working from a home office though and, sadly, that ended my visits here. Recently I've gone back on two occasions and it was like nothing had changed. Except things had changed! They expanded from the small space they once had where there was almost a daily wrestling match to find seating to blowing out a wall and probably tripling their seating capacity. The food was, and is, spectacular. Everything is so fresh and they have so many creative ways of serving eggplant! All are delicious. Their salads are fresh, delicious, and large. The grape leaves are delicious as well. Basically, EVERYTHING is delicious and you can't go wrong. Don't even get me started in the bread...omg... The staff has grown and I've not yet run into the owners. Everyone is polite and on the service. If you're looking for amazing Mediterranean food then look no further! read more

So tonight I ordered takeout and asked how long will it take? 20 minutes the gentleman says. Okay great knowing most businesses are early I show up 10 minutes early. Food isn't ready no problem. 40 minutes later (1hr) my food is ready but out of bread. I say no that is unacceptable so they graciously make bread and I wait 5 minutes, no problem. They take care of me as I wait and all is well at this point. I get home with our order and mine is screwed up! I ordered the shishkabob trio and get one chicken. Not what I paid for!! This was such an experience of Turkish food that I never expected. Our server was amazing giving so much detail to both the dishes and culture. We started with the cold appetizer platter and an order of the Falafel plate. I eat falafel where ever I can and this was to perfection in taste and cooked just right. Not the same anymore., not sure if they changed management/chef but the quality of food and service went down tremendously. This is not the same Bosphorus that we're used to. Servings are cut by a third, stale bread, stale soda, paper thin pre-sliced gyro (hilarious), over cooked couscous soaked in annatto (not saffron), baklava burnt and soft instead of crispy top it's soggy all the way and meat is not properly seasoned. For years i've been on the hunt for an authentic doner kebab similar to the ones i'd eat almost every day from a Turkish kebab stand by my school in Germany. Unfortunately, people in the US typically equate them to sub-par Gyros- which is all i've ever been able to find around here- until now! Recently my job moved offices to Cary which has to lead me to do some exploring for new lunch options! I've heard of Bosphorous before, but for some reason, I did not know they have kebabs available at lunch (I think technically it was called a gyro sandwich, but it was the closest thing i've ever seen to a kebab from Europe)! The sandwich was stuffed full of doner meat, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce and was on freshly baked bread that was simply to die for! I also really enjoyed their cucumber sauce which was a perfect accompaniment to the sandwich! Along with my sandwich, I enjoyed tabouli salad which was a massive portion for $4. You also receive complimentary bread and oil as well as Turkish tea, which were both the cherry on a perfect cake! Service-wise everything came out quickly and my server was friendly and helpful! The restaurant was pretty full but it looked like a steady flow of people coming in and out. I can't wait to come back to Bosphorus. Great place for affordable and tasty Mediterranean food in a family-owned local business. This is a popular spot amongst the locals, so there is often a wait for a table. The food is fresh and tasty, but don't visit here if you are in a hurry. Although friendly, the service isn't especially fast. A perk that makes up for it: you can bring in your own wine for your meals. Another tip: ask to sit in the area to the right during warmer months, as it is not air conditioned on the left side of the restaurant. We went to Bosphorus after Triangle Uncorked, so it was about 6pm and I worried it might be full with a dinner crowd, but surprisingly there was only 1 table occupied in this small restaurant. There really wasn't a whole lot of seating, just about 12 tables or so, but they were nice roomy booths. I believe there's also seating around the outside, but it was very hot outside and getting dark so I don't think anyone was out there. With paper tablecloths and a mishmash of Turkish touristy stuff on the walls, my first impression was that it might be just a cheap cafe not worth my time. I ordered Ayran, the yogurt drink as a beverage. I've always liked yogurt drink with my meals, though normally I order the sweeter ones, like mango lassi. This one didn't have any sweetness to it other than the natural dairy sweetness. They also brought out some sesame bread to the table with some spicy oil for dipping. I liked the bread, it made a very nice snack after all that wine at the festival. Then we ordered Cigar Bourek (feta wrapped in filo dough) for an appetizer and Lamb Shish Kebab and Ali Nazik for entrees. The cigar bourek was served hot with a marinara dipping sauce. It was crunchy and yummy and my husband and I both liked it very much. The entrees came out soon afterwards. I was amazed by the size of the entrees. After looking at the take-out menu afterward I found that they do offer entrees in a "small" and "large" size, but in the menu they didn't state this. I'm going to assume we both received the large size of our entrees. The salad wasn't terrific, but went well with the small bit of cucumber sauce. Cucumber sauce (raita, tzatziki, cacik) has always been one of my favorite things in the whole world to eat, so that tiny little pot of it wasn't nearly enough. The bulgur pilaf was richly flavored and was a good match for the rest of the meal. Then I got to the lamb. It was probably the best lamb I've ever had in my life. If lamb had an equivalent to filet mignon, this would be it. It was perfectly cooked on the outside, warm and tender and moist on the inside. The meal was so big that I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day, and it was almost as good reheated. My husband's Ali Nazik wasn't nearly as good as my own entree, having tasted the meat and found it closer to hamburger than my own lamb filet mignon. But I was jealous that he got so much more delicious yogurt sauce than I did. His side dishes were very tasty. Despite appearances, the food here was really quite good. I didn't even know if I'd like Turkish food or not, but it seemed like the perfect blend between Greek and Middle-eastern flavors. read more

"Great Turkish food, friendly service" Finally tried this small place, nestled in the corner of a very small strip of stores. We arrived early (~4:45pm), and while they seated us right away, they warned us that the kitchen wouldn't open until 5pm (fine since we wanted to chat anyway). We started with the Bosphorus Meze platter, which came with some of the best hummus and baba ghannouj I've had in the area, along with tabouli, another eggplant salad, 2 stuffed grape leaves, and more. It was a great-sized appetizer for a group of 4 who were pretty hungry, and the quality was very high. Only minor complaint is they gave us VERY little bread with which to eat all those dips, even after we asked for more. I had the "ali nazik" entree for dinner, which was a fat "string" of charbroiled ground lamb/ beef stretching across a long plate and shaped... well... in an unfortunate manner for those who aren't used to Middle Eastern food (shaped kind of like "kofta" from Middle Eastern restaurants). Nonetheless, it tasted fantastic. On one side of the meat was a small pool of marinara sauce, and on the other side was a small pool of a yogurt sauce. Within both sauces were pieces of bread, kind of large soft croutons. They tasted great (since the sauce was great), and the meat went very well with both sauces. Service was VERY friendly- our server really was accommodating and helpful and kept our glasses of water very full. When it got busy a little later, it was a little bit slow to get our check, but not unreasonably so and it was clear he was very busy helping other tables around us. Prices are reasonable for that quality- the big appetizer was $10, and the entrees were $10-15 each. If it was in west Durham, I'd go frequently, but even with the distance, it's a place I'd enjoy making the trek out to periodically. DEFINITELY worth trying if you're in the Cary area. I'm just not a huge fan of Mediterranean food -- never been to Med Deli, still keep making up excuses to skip Sitti (I can hear your audible gasps). And so it was that I found myself dining here for lunch earlier this week. Firstly -- TIME OUT. Our server was absolutely friggin' amazing. I'm talking, his section consisted of the entire restaurant. And yeah, it's small. But it's still like 8 tables inside, plus 3 outside. Toss two 6-top parties in there and I have to say he may just be the best of the best. SO courteous, full of suggestions, prompt and just really genuinely friendly. I'd come back just to visit with him again. We decided to start off with the grape leaves, which the menu lists as being full of wondrous spices -- cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom and so on. The end product was just kind of blah for me, considering how tantalizing it sounds. It's a refreshing summer-time nosh, but just didn't blow me away. For my entree, well, I'm not even sure what I ended up with! Going by Yelp reviews, I'd selected the yogurt kabobs -- but the server talked me into something different. Unfortunately, whatever it was wound up being striking similar to what hubs got -- only mine was ground beef patties and his was lamb. And I preferred the lamb... it had some savory spices that the beef lacked. Both were served with a tomato chutney sauce, yogurt, and cubes of bread. Not bad, but again, just not my fave food. Wow I hate to use the phrase "this is a gem" but it really is. After reading all these amazing reviews I'm happy to say this place did not disappoint. Bosphorus is located in the Upper Deck strip mall in downtown Cary. Man on man how I wish this place was open years ago when I worked at "The Deck" the food is so good and healthy. I met my girlfriend here for dinner we grabbed a seat on the patio and checked out the menu. We didn't see any alcohol but saw some customers drinking wine, we asked our waiter and he said they don't serve wine but you are welcome to bring it in. What... a BYOB in Cary - now I'm excited. I went to the nearby store grabbed some wine and we were all set for the night. We decided to share the Meze platter and the chicken kebab entree glad we didn't order separate entrees that was a lot of food. All of the food was excellent one of the best Meze platters I have ever had and only $10. The chicken was grilled perfectly served over some tasty rice and a Greek salad on the side. I could eat this meal over and over again. Our server was so friendly and made us feel right at home, the entire staff here walked around with smiles on their faces and were incredibly nice. Their credit card machine was malfunctioning and the waiter told me not to worry about leaving him a tip it was no big deal. Thank goodness I had cash this place was way to good not to leave this man a tip. I am going to be a regular here from now on. I crave Mediterranean food and these Turkish folks know what they are doing. My only regret was not ordering some Turkish coffee and baklava but there is always next time. The very pleasant feeling you have when you find a good restaurant and have a great dining experience is not as intense, not as visceral, as the low you experience when a favorite restaurant delivers a disaster. We had such an experience here last week at lunch. Some of the circumstances were purely of a random nature, but a large part was the restaurant simply not being prepared to deal with the lunch volume this day. This is a small place, thinly staffed, can get crowded near the noon hour, and can be noisy, so we always arrive early to avoid waits and the noise - didn't work out very well this time. We entered just after 11 AM, the first customers to arrive, no one was at the front, guy in the small kitchen area, pointed toward a booth. Nearly 10 minutes later, the usual waiter came , apparently having been on an errand. We finally were brought some water, ordered (didn't need a menu), and after 20 minutes in the restaurant, some bread arrived. The vegeterian app platter casmr at 30 minutes. The place was filling up, service became even slower. A woman with a loud, obnoxious child, who screamed and ran all over the restaurant added to the overall enjoyment that lunch was becoming, as did the man talking loudly on his cell phone. After nearly an hour in the place, we still had not recieved our entree, nor had anyone else, and there were now close to 20 folks there. I ask the waiter when our order would be ready, he said a few more miinutes, that they were finishing up a very large call in order, and that was the cause of the delay. I ask for the check for our appetizer, paid it and left. When we left not one table had been served an entree. I like the food here, but the service has gradually gone down hill, and this last trip was my last. There simply are too many restaurants with good food, and much better service, in the area. read more

This place is overall awesome! The food is the best Mediterranean I have had in the area. The staff was friendly and attentive; a pleasure to be around. They can cater to small or large groups. If you have a party of more than four, you may want to call ahead for reservations as they fill up fast. They bring you bread that is fresh out of the oven with some delicious olive oil dip, that is oh so tasty. It did take a while for the food to come but it was worth the wait. It was hard to choose what to order, everything on the menu looked so good. I will warn you that depending on what you get, your plate may not be as filling. My dish was just a kabob and two sauces but I left satisfied. It just tasted so good and I had plenty of bread. We were seated and waited on but we had to go up to the register to pay. read more

My family and I have been going to Bosphorus for years now, and every visit we have left with our bellies full of amazing Turkish food. Before when Bosphorus was a little cafe where you ordered at the counter, to now where it is a cozy, family-run restaurant with waiter service, the quality of the food and service has never fallen short of exceptional. There's one main waiter there who knows all the regulars, and by now he even knows which member of my family will order what. I, for example, always, always go for the lamb yogurt kabobs. How could I resist?! I try lamb kabobs everywhere I can, and wherever I can get juicy, tender, flavorful lamb kabobs then that is what I am going to get everytime. It's a lot easier to get chicken or beef kabobs right, but lamb kabobs take a certain skill, and the chefs at Bosphorus definitely have that skill honed to perfection! Aside from the kabobs, we have tried just about everything on the menu, and everything is superb. From the salads, soups, appetizers to the pide (Turkish pizzas) and the tea. And whatever you do, please don't forget to have some Turkish tea to finish off your meal :). Only problem with Bosphorus is it is too small! This place needed to expand yesterday, no joke! It is small (seating for maybe 50 inside? and 15 outside) so be prepared to wait for a table if you have a large group or come at peak dinner time. However, I assure you, the wait will be worth it, unlike those 2 hour waits at Cheesecake Factory, believe me :). To sum up, hands down the best Mediterranean/Middle Eastern/Turkish Food in the area =) - and much better than a lot of other similar restaurants I have been to in larger cities like D.C./New York/Chicago. Finally had a chance to visit Bosphorus for lunch. Looks like they had just completed renovation or expansion. Nice space. Very clean. This place is the real deal for Turkish/Middle Eastern food. Reminds me of the eateries on lower Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn that offered at least a dozen Middle Eastern Restaurants. For lunch I had the Kofka Kebab, made of ground lamb and beef mixed with chopped onions, parsley, fresh garlic, special herbs and spices. Served with Bulgur pilaf and grilled veggies. The Pide bread, a toasted sesame seeded pita was served with a spiced oil for dipping. Just the right size portion for lunch and fair priced at $8.50. I suggest that you try the Baklava. It is the freshest and most delicious I've tasted in years. Severs are very polite and friendly. If you have questions about the menu they will be happy to explain. I was contemplating my first review of 2015 and thought, it needs to be a good one! Then I realized I somehow never wrote a review for my MOST FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN THE TRIANGLE.....WHAT THE WHAT?!?!?! So without further ado, let the reviews for 2015 BEGIN! If you told me you had one day in the triangle, and one meal to partake, THIS IS the place I would send you, hands down. To say the service is impeccable doesn't even being to describe how wonderful every experience we have had here. But even as awesome as the service has been, it is the amazing food that keeps bringing me back, (43 miles one way) to this great little restaurant. (AND GREAT NEWS! THEY ARE EXPANDING!!! The Expansion should be open soon, if it isn't already.) The food here is fresh and delicious. Usually I will get the Gyro platter, gyro meat (thin slices), bulgur wheat (texture is similar to rice) and a salad. Or I get the Pideler (Turkish Pizza). Specifically the Lahmacun. (However I have had several of the others, and they are excellent, the Lahmacun just happens to be my favorite. The Lahmacun is ground beef mix with chopped onions, tomatoes, green peppers, parsley, garlic and spices on thin crust dough and baked. It's actually 2 round pieces of dough as opposed to the traditional boat shape of the other Pidelers. I have ventured out of the routine and ordered several other dishes, including the chicken, lamb, and beef kebabs, Cigar Bourek, lentil soup, Ezme, eggplant dip, cucumber dip, Gyro Sandwich (only served at lunch, and it is fantastic), Ali Nazik, and their tea. All of which were so very very good! However I keep getting drawn back to my usual Gyro platter and Lahmacun b/c I love them both so much. O and their Baklava, it is my favorite of anywhere I've been. So in summary, if you're looking for a place with reasonable prices, wonderful service and the best food in the triangle, for me, this IS the place! read more

My wife & I ate here for dinner about 4-5 years ago and was pleasantly surprised. At that time, they had outdoor garden seating with heat lamps. After restaurant reopening during COVID, we tried to make reservations for a small group and was told they closed the outdoor awaiting repairs. We went there for lunch as a party of four for lunch. The food was good, but the menu seemed restricted to salad, sandwiches, a personal size pastrami pizza a gyro plate and kabob platters. I ventured the pizza, enjoyed the intense flavor of the toasted pastrami pieces but wished it had some veggie or olives on it. The rest of the party had no complaints withe the kabob but complained that the salad that came in their was lacked flavoring. Appeared it was sprinkled only with olive oil. Same issue with an ala carte salad order one of us ordered b/c neither the menu nor the waitress told us a small salad came withe the platter. He wound out with two salad serving, both very bland. That waitress was young and appeared inexperienced! As far as we could see, the menu was not labeled as a 'Lunch Menu'. read more

Are you in the mood for some Turkey food? Get it? Bosphorus is hidden in a strip mall in downtown Cary so we often drive past it without noticing it. We happened to pass it again, but this time we stopped in. Stopping in was worth it. Bosphorus is a very small restaurant and was very busy when we walked in the restaurant. However the staff worked very hard and got us a table quickly. The staff worked hard all night for us. Our waiter helped us throughout the dinner and was very funny. The food was just OK. We started with some bread and a really interesting oil dip. For an appetizer we got the meze platter, which had hummus, baba ghannouj, ezme, tabouli, eggplant salad, cucumber dip, and stuffed grape leaves. I didn't really like it because I don't really like baba ghannouj, or humus, or the grape leaves. I didn't know what the ezme or tabouli was so I didn't try it. For our entrée, we got the mixed kabobs. There were two beef kabobs, two lamb, and one chicken. I really liked the kabobs because the meat was cooked perfectly and was very tender. The bulgur pilaf to me was average because it didn't have enough flavors and it was bland. We also got a pideler, which is a Turkish pizza. We got a shrimp pide and it was very delicious because it was unique. Maybe next time I'll try something different, but the food was enjoyable. Want some good Turkish food in the area? Wow I was totally surprised by the quality of their food. I'm very picky with different meat dishes but their combination platter was very good. The lamb did not have a gamey taste at all and the chicken and beef were delicious. Their baklava was very good and not so overly sweet like other places I have tried. This small, family-run eatery delivers a fantastic and personal dining experience if you're willing to do a bit of work. Located deep in downtown Cary off of Harrison, Bosphorus has a small space and its super-popular status means it may be a challenge getting a seat! Inside its sparsely decorated but you know what? The food rocks so get past these minor hurdles and you are about to be dazzled! During my first visit with order a lamb chunks pizza and I go with an adana kebab for my meal. The pizza is awesome, lightweight with red onions and tender meat on top of a boat-shaped crust, yum! My kebab is spicy and well cooked on some tender pilaf and served with a side of brightly colored salad-veggies. While I may not be a Turkish food expert, I do know what's good and Bosphorus puts out great food! Service was friendly and solid even with a busy crowd. Love the family-feel to Bosphorus, really wish they could expand a bit and find a more convenient location for me but what the heck!
