Boss Dog Brewing is an urban brewery in Cedar Lee neighborhood. This neighborhood is DORA by the way meaning you can wander with your beer. This is a destination for Cleveland Brewery passport. I visited Boss Dog many times over the years and most recently for Cleveland Heights Neighborhood Crawl. AMBIANCE: Minimalistic and laidback brewery perfect for groups with large tables. There are options to sit inside in dim surroundings or enjoy twinkling lights on the patio. The brewery is rarely crowded so it's a perfect destination to watch sports in peace or just socialize with friends in calm surroundings. FOOD/DRINKS: Their kitchen closes fairly early. To be honest, I've never had any food here that I loved. Beers are always bold and have fun names. During the bar crawl I had Rocktoberfest beer. It's bold and very autumnal. SERVICE: Their kitchen closes service is friendly. You usually get pretty dedicated. PARKING: There are three municipal parking lots in the area that can be used free of charge. There is also valet option. Additionally limited street parking is available. Peak hours are weekends, plan for extra time. If you're looking for a laidback opportunity to hang out with friends, visit. There are plenty of restaurants and bars on this street in case you want to be out all evening. read more

I picked up a pizza here and it was fantastic. I got the candied bacon one. the candied bacon was nice and crunchy. the smoked Gouda and alfredo drizzle on it were amazing. those along with the balsamic vinegar all plate off each other so well. We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. We ate outside on the patio, and the atmosphere was nice. It took way too long for a server to come to our table. We ordered and the waitress refused to accommodate any reasonable substitutions we requested. She seemed annoyed to be there. The server who brought our food out dropped some of my shrimp onto our table. She picked them up, never apologized or returned. When our waitress brought our check, I asked if anyone was cooking more shrimp and she seemed very confused. She returned to tell us no one was making shrimp. She didn't want to take anything off the bill and honestly didn't seem like she cared in the least. Our food was okay. My husband's chicken sandwich was "meh" and my shrimp was good, or at least the shrimp that I had left. Definitely can't say we'll be back. Came to Boss Dog for dinner before a movie. This was my first time dining here as I usually only go for a beer. We were seated at the outdoor patio and did not have to wait on a Saturday evening, which was nice. However, the service was really slow because they had moved our table so it wasn't covered by any of the servers; it took 15-20 min just to get our drink order taken. When our server finally arrived, he was really unenthusiastic and a bit rude. For food, I ordered the summer salad which was tasty but pretty small for the price. My boyfriend got the Nashville chicken sandwich which he had gotten before and enjoys. It's very flavorful and definitely packs a punch. Overall, I would say the food is ok but I'll be more likely to come back just for a drink rather than a meal. read more

I came on a Tuesday night for trivia and it was somewhat crowded, but plenty of tables available. I had a flight of beer and enjoyed all of them, especially the pineapple vanilla hazy IPA. They had lots of IPAs to pick from and I also enjoyed their smores porter. To eat, I tried the onion rings and mushrooms as appetizers and both were good. I also had the caprese salad which was tasty but I felt like there could have been more for the price. It was just 3 tomatoes with mozzarella on top and I was expecting more of a salad. The three of us didn't have the foresight to make a reservation, so when we arrived on a Friday evening, they told us that they will be a 45 minute wait for patio seating. Luckily, we were able to be seated inside, that they didn't tell us that the food would take a long time to come out. We ordered some drinks off of the cocktail menu, and prepared to hang tight for our food even though we were starving! They were definitely having a busier night, so it took us a while to get water, and after our waiter took our order for drinks, he disappeared. A different waiter came around to take our food order after we were waiting for a while. I had the strawberry lemonade cocktail, which was yummy although definitely very sweet. Overall, I felt like the cocktails tasted good but weren't very strong. I had a fish fry for dinner, which honestly was really delicious, so I was also starving! My friends had a Nashville hot chicken sandwich, which they really enjoyed, though their main criticism was that they wish it were spicier. overall, we enjoyed the food and drinks that we had here, though the service was on the slower side. We checked out boss dog brewing primarily for its Tuesday trivia nights. Unfortunately, the one time we came on a Tuesday, it was cancelled. Thankfully the food and beer made it still somewhat worth it: * Big Boss Pretzel ($14): Pretzel and sauces were fine, but the extra sausage/cheeses were not worth the extra $7 * Boss Dog Burger ($14): nothing spectacular, but I'd give it points for it being a very neat (literally) burger with a properly grilled patty * Chicken pesto pizza ($15): not the best crust, but still a decent pizza with gooey cheese and well balanced flavors. * Short rib burger ($15): definitely better than the boss dog burger and highly recommend for those who like a bit of caramelized onions in their burger. BEER: At $6 each, or a flight of 4 tasters for $7, the beer here is a real steal! Solid selection too. Overall, I'd say Boss Dog is a decent place for beer and bar food, but the food quality doesn't quite match up with its relatively steep prices. As the name implies, this is a dog-friendly establishment. Several dogs chilling on the patio today with their hoomans. They have a rotating selection of their own brews, as well as some guest beers. Today I had the Weiner Weizen kristallweizen which was good. I didn't have any food but there were many yummy-sounding options on the menu, like chicken & waffles, pasta carbonara, poutine, a salmon BLT, and a soft pretzel with beer cheese. Overall, it could have been a lot better. We made reservations ahead of time. When we arrived, it was raining and they tried to put us at a table outside. No overhang, no umbrella. Just a table in the rain. When we asked to be moved inside, the first hostess looked at us like we propositioned her for something unsavory, but then smiled and brought us in. Then, another waitress yelled from across the restaurant that we couldn't sit somewhere and she said "stick them at the bar." Food was mediocre. Some of our party enjoyed theirs and others did not. Hmmm...where to start with this one. It's a local dive, with a decent patio and outdoor bar. I really liked the decor and ambiance. The patio can get weird because people tend to bring their dogs. I've been twice, the first time I sat outside near a guy with a wild untrained dog. Sat inside the next time. There are just too many discrepancies on the menu imo. For instance we ordered something from the brunch section labeled Bacon, egg and cheese. Well it arrived at the table on a hamburger bun....umm nothing on the menu describes it as a sandwich. Also no choice of bread. It arrived with a side of kettle chips, which weren't in the description either. Oh yeah and for the slice of cheese in the name of the dish.... it's a dollar extra. I don't really care about a dollar but I'd like to know what's going to be extra. Also if it's literally in the name of the dish it's not extra. We also ordered a cheeseburger, and it was the same thing. Not disclosed on the menu or by the waiter that cheese is extra. I've been twice and just wasn't really impressed. My husband and I went back because our 1st experience was great. However this time they were out of a lot of food items and drinks (pizza, salmon, 3 different cocktails). We ordered the hot chicken sandwich and pesto chicken. The size portion of chicken I received was unacceptable for an additional $4. I wanted the salmon on my pasta but they were out of it. Hmm, I'm not sure how to feel. This simply might not be the venue for me since beer pairings are central to the menu and that's never my drink of choice. I tried the Nashville chicken sandwich and wasn't all that impressed. I was also pretty hungry, and food typically tastes a bit better when you're famished, but eh...it still wasn't anything to rave about. The outer layer of the chicken was fried a bit too hard. I enjoy going to Breweries but it's not just about the beer. For me it's about the food they choose to pair. Most times it's regualr bar food, not in the case of Boss Dog. I did order a bourbon aged Stout to start because I love my bourbon. My entree was a tasty jerk chicken sandwich. I had the flight of 4 beers and my favorites were the spicy "Super Cerrano" and velvety smooth Rubber City Stout aged in bourbon barrels. The strawberry balsamic salad was wonderful with grilled chicken added- nice goat cheese, sweet but tangy dressing, and nice volume of greens with some scattered onion ring-shaped slices to hold it all. Enjoyed several beers: Rocktoberfest, Slice of Citra, El Hefe, Barrel aged Rubber City Stout. No complaints! El Hefe was an authentic German hefeweisen. Rubber City Stout had a distinct bourbon aroma and taste. The one disappointment was it had an upcharge listed in fine print despite being on the menu under titke all beers $6.00. Food: try the big boss pretzel! Delicious with cheese sausage and 3 dipping cups mustards/ beer cheese. We both had the pork schnitzel entree. Tender and flavorful. Always passed this place in my neighborhood and finally gave it a shot. With all the exposed beer tanks and kegs, it seemed like a cool place to show my brother from out of town being he wanted beer. Luckily, the beer flight we chose delivered greatness! However, the food, the service and the atmosphere needs improvement!!! As far as the atmosphere, only around five customers were there on a Friday night. As my brother said, it was "as dead as a door nail!" The smell reminds me of an old, musty diner. Two of three meal orders came out first. Our brother had to wait on his order. Our fries were cold and hard and my carne asada sandwich was not good at all. It had a thick, cold, ungrilled bun and the only thing that was warm was some of the steak pieces inside the sandwich. I took one bite and knew I couldn't eat it. When my brothers order finally came, they didn't bring his fries. After about 10 more minutes waiting, the waiter came to check on our table and my brother mentioned his fries. The waiter gave an apprehensive look like he'd forgot to add it. He gave an excuse that they needed to make more fries because they ran out (by that time, there were only 2 other people there). He then requested the fry order at the register. When my brothers fries were brought to the table, he orders a pumpkin flavored pint of beer he'd enjoyed from the flight choice. I let the waiter know that I was not enjoying my meal and he took it away. I hear back and forth, muffled talking with the waiter and the manager about my food. By then, we are the only customers in the restaurant and my brother still has not received his beer. It's after 9:30 pm and they are advertising a 2am closure. The waiter is now doing tasks around the restaurant including sweeping the outdoor dining area. My brother is still eating and waiting on his beer. When the waiter arrives back at the table, he lets me know that I won't be charged for the carne asada. We remind him about the beer. He looks at the time (now around 10) and asks my brother if he still wants it. He said yes. The waiter then orders the beer from the bar. When the bill came....to our surprise, the manager decided to itemize my meal and charge us for the cold fries I barely ate! If they were going to charge me for the fries, then why not let me keep them? I would have definitely asked for warm fries if I knew I were paying for them. I hardly ever send food back but I knew I couldn't eat another bite of that sandwich. I ate fries from underneath the pile because again...they were cold. After explaining to the manager that I should have kept my fries if I were paying for them, he reluctantly decided to take it off the bill. I'm very curious to know if he has itemized anyone else's meal like this? Or just ours?? Just after the bill is paid and the waiter takes the dishes away, the music is shut off which insinuated our exit. Total disrespect! Between the excellent service, casual atmosphere, and the industrial modern decor I was very impressed with this find in Cleveland Heights. This was our second attempt to support this fun location. First time was this past spring. We ordered some beer, which was nice. I got a flight to try a few on the list. I felt the beer was good and flavorful. We tried to order vegan pizza but they were out of the vegan cheese - which is most of the cost of the pizza so we decided to skip food. We sat at the bar which was please take and the bar tenders were helpful. Really disappointed this second time around. Our server was very pushing on taking our food order. We were a party of 4 adults and 3 kids between 9-12. They mentioned kids menus but didn't show us prices. Kids pizza was $7 each with nothing else, we would have just ordered a regular cheese if we would have known this. Sodas for the kids was $3.50 each. I ordered a salad which was good but it came out at the same time as my dinner and it didn't have the cheese on it. My friends salad came after they finished their wings. My husbands pasta was decent but had way to much oil in it. When we finished our drinks, we had to flag down our server to get more. I would totally understand the delay if the place was busy but only the patio was filled and 1/3 of the restaurant, with the patio having a large party with mostly kids for someone's birthday. The worst was when we received our bill and they added the gratuity of 20%. I am assuming this was because we were a party of 7, but again there was nothing posted that this would be the case, our serves wasn't that great and the place wasn't packed. We all felt rushed to leave. We would have stayed to enjoy the music but decided to leave. The patio was perfect for viewing the music.
