There is a line for a reason. This is some of the best food I have ever had. Use your time to figure out what you want. The fried chicken was delicious and crispy. I have the assorted fried seafood platter and while it was all good - the flounder was *outstanding*. Be aware that many things are in the hot bar but all seafood is cooked to order so not everyone may get their food at the same time. This hole in the wall was surprisingly good. They had really tasty bbq and delicious sides. Good: One of the people in my group got a full pound of their chopped bbq, ate half of it for dinner and was happy he had the other 1/2 lb to go for later. I think everyone in our group of 7 finished their bbq clean off their plates. I got the potato salad and it had great flavor. Definitely one of the better potato salads I've had in NC. The "spicy fries" aren't spicy at all and are just curly fries. They were still good enough to fight over and some people poured Texas Pete on it to make them somewhat spicy. This place also has two picnic tables outside. They don't have too much seating for larger groups in this place, but the picnic tables are in great shape, and I brought my dog so we were very happy with the outdoor seating. Bad: Their corn bread was horrible. They came in the form of bread sticks and had absolutely no flavor. Really disappointing since I love corn bread. Someone in our group had to eat it with their baked beans to give it flavor. I called in a takeout order of the 1 lb shredded pork bbq, a pint each of baked beans and coleslaw, and 4 buns. It's called their Picnic Special and it's supposedly only available as a takeout according to the menu. It was ready when I arrived about 15 mins later. Nice people working behind the counter too. The shredded pork was dry and tough. It really didn't have much of a flavor. The sauce, which was in a separate container, didn't help make it taste any better. Hubs thought the pork needed more sauce but that wouldn't have made it less tough. The coleslaw had good texture and flavor. The baked beans tasted like it came from a can. I was so hoping we would like the bbq here since we pass by it regularly. Our bill came to less than $18 and we had some bbq left over that hubs will polish off tomorrow (after he adds bottled sauce to it). I just think a bbq place should know how to avoid making tough dry pork. That's their thing, they make it every day. Shredded pork is a huge part of their menu. It should never be tough and dry. Have been to this restaurant several times, matter of fact we drive from Mooresville because it's that good. HOWEVER this will be our last visit due to the actions of the cashier. My husband walked in with his coffee, she started yelling at him to take it back to the car before she would take our order, words were exchanged and she said if we didn't like it we could leave!!!! He took the cup out, but she kept on mouthing, the store was full and it was very embarrassing. No signs were posted about outside beverages prohibited. Our last visit unfortunately. read more

BBQ is okay but the service is horrible. The employee (long hair, tats and baseball cap) who took my to-go order yesterday was extremely rude and scary. He made mean faces and pointed at the choices when I asked him which sides came with a family meal. He slammed my credit card receipt on the counter with a pen for me to sign. Not a smile or "Your welcome" when I said thank you either, just an evil look. Maybe he didn't like me wearing a covid mask. Also, he took my phone number to text me when my order was ready. I went in after 25 minutes to check on it since they were not busy. My order was sitting there getting cold and a different employee just said, "You didn't give us your number." We have been here many times. It's an old standby in the Sherrills Ford area. My favorite is the Fish Dinner; cooked to order, always hot and delicious served with fries, slaw and tartar sauce. They also make the best burgers around. The Sherrills Ford area is growing but Boss Hog will always be a favorite (even if they have to move due to widening of 150). read more

I do not see what the hype is about this restaurant. This place is tiny and the tables are so cramped. We ordered 3 chopped bbq plates with various sides. What we were served was 1 chopped plate and 2 plates I guess you could call it pulled pork but more like chunks, mind you all of them came already sauced, a big no no for me! I'm a huge bbq sauce lover but their sauce just don't measure up. It's overly sweet in my opinion and they only have 1 sauce, most places have around 3 sauces. The bbq itself wasn't bad but it wasn't great. I make way better bbq at home in my crockpot! The fries were crunchy do that's a plus. The corn nuggets are ok and the corn sticks they serve with your meal, well let's just say my family threw those in the trash. Another thing that got me is they charge for water! When a person pulls up to a barbecue joint and doesn't smell smoke inside or outside of the place questions arise right off the bat. The special was a brisket sandwich with fries. Being a brisket connoisseur my order was a no-brainer. There wasn't a whole heck of a lot of brisket on this sandwich and it was smothered in sauce, another sure sign of poor BBQ. No pit, no chimney, no hickory smoke, no piles of hickory wood so how is the "barbeque" smoked? I don't think it is cause I can't detect not even a hint of smoky flavor. This last time I ate here the barbeque was wet, mushy and flavorless. The dip which I guess is suppose to be the Lexington vinegar dip has no flavor at all. I've lived in the area for 19 years and have only eaten here 3 times and all 3 times someone else paid for it. I would never ever go here on my own or shell out my own money to eat here. My husband and I grew up in the area and had never ate here until a couple of months ago. Our food is always fantastic. Way better than BBQ King in Lincolnton. Boss Hog BBQ is the real deal. I ordered some BBQ for my family of 17. I wasn't sure on how much pulled pork I should order for my family. They advised me on what to order. They were right. We had just enough food. I ordered pulled pork,coleslaw, pulled pork, and wings. It was all really good. My son said it was the best meal of the week.
