Boss Hogg's is an interesting place. I came here to see a band play, and Boss Hogg's has a real country feel to it. Since I was a party of one, I was seated at the back of the restaurant, which made my experience seem like I was watching people watching a band, which was disappointing. I asked if I could sit closer to the band, and was denied "in case a bigger party comes in". I get it, but it was frustrating to see a four-top directly in front of the stage remain empty all night long. While the BBQ is competent, it's nothing special. What is impressive, though, is that unlike literally every other BBQ restaurant I've ever been to, the more meats you get in your sampler, the portion size isn't decreased. The sampler platter gives you a FULL portion of everything offered, making it a veritable bargain, and enough food to feed two abnormally hungry adults. It was also impressive to observer pretty much everybody in attendance greeting everybody else personally. It seemed that everybody there knew everybody else, and that they were all regulars. There is also ample room for dancing, if you're into that sort of thing, as well as a bar area ("the pigpen") in which children ("piglets") are not permitted. We stopped here on a road trip, just a few minutes off the I-5. The greeting was friendly, the place was clean, and the atmosphere was super relaxed. Everything I tried was delicious. My least favorite meat was the brisket, as it had some pretty big chunks of inedible fat. Other than that, I was quite pleased, and very full. Great little spot to get tithe best bbq and sides around. It's rare that you go to a bbq place and order 3 different meats and 2 different sides and every one of them are good. There's always 1 or 2 that are just ok... Not here. We have been back 3 times since our first trip. Great small town place to go for dinner. Live music and fun games here. Tried this restaurant out on a Friday evening. We got there about 6:45 and the sign out front said live music at 7. Score! I loved the layout of this restaurant. Spacious seating area. Busy place in Winlock on a Friday night! The music was great. I could have sat and listened all night. I had the 2 meats with two sides - chose brisket, burnt ends, Mac n cheese and southern green beans. Burnt ends were ok, not great. I probably wouldn't order them again. The brisket was fabulous! So tender! The Mac n cheese was good. The green beans were so tasty! My husband got burnt ends with a salad and corn bread. Corn bread was also very tasty! Excellent. Wife had the Meaty Mac w/ shredded pork. Rarely does she eat that much. Her comment was, "I can taste it ALL, smoke, pork, tender... and not too much chewing" her common complaint. She is no fan of fried food, but ordered the fried Okra, and it was a big hit w/ her. Impressive. I had the Brisket Sammich, on a Sunday. Cut a bit thick (some chewing required), not salty, served with bread that holds up to it and their slaw. Potato salad was cold, tasty, nice bite sized pieces. The food here is unmatched, I cannot get enough of the pulled pork and chicken. We found the new date night spot in our small town, and are so excited. Great BBQ!! We loved the food, we did takeout. Baked beans that are sweetened beyond palatable. The chicken was smoked on a grill that they clearly don't clean, nasty is how I'd describe the chicken. We drove up from longview and boy are we glad we did!! The keto bomb was spectacular.the pulled pork,pulled chicken,ribs, sausage,potato salad mac n cheese, burger...literally everything was top notch!! They put the BBQ places in longview to shame!! It was our first time coming into Boss Hoggs bbq, we came in during a small rush but Aubrey, our server was so amazing, she handled the rush flawlessly and we got our food and drinks so quick! I was honestly super impressed. Our food was really good, I got 2 meats brisket and pulled pork with 2 sides, the mashed potato's and green beans. Everything was perfect! Boss Hog is looking good! Our first time here and on Friday the 13th their opening day after some updating! Such a cute place! The staff very accommodating and decorating well done in Boss Hog style! The layout is nice and roomy, a place where you can scoot your chair back from the table and stretch your legs out a little. This was our second time here (and our last) so we were still a bit unfamiliar with their menu. At the time we called, they were already out of 4 different items we wanted to order. During the call, I told the girl on the phone we were ordering the $60 meal that was advertised on Yelp photos (see above), she asked how many people we were feeding and I said 4, she acknowledged and we proceeded. We also ordered two $5 apple pie (BITES). Now we go to pick up our meal and a different girl tries to charge me $117! I told them there was definitely a miscommunication and I could not pay that for the order. I talked to the girl who took the order and reminded her of our convo and showed them the picture of the $60 meal. She acknowledged she made the mistake but then it took everyone else another 15 MINUTES to determine if they should give me the $60 price.. all while I was standing there waiting & mortified and the food was getting cold. They finally made their decision to sell it for $60. The girl who rang up the sale charged $60 for the meal, $10 for the tiny desserts, and added on a $15 "UPSALE" for the meatloaf (which was NOT told to me while ordering or I would never have ordered it, BTW, it was terrible!) They also charge a fee for not paying with cash so my bill came to almost $100!! So, what exactly happened here?!?! I WAS DECIEVED! Watch your bills people, we are all on hard times, NOT JUST BOSS HOGGS!! We will never return! The first time we got food here, the meat was sooo fatty and we decided to try it again thinking it was a rare occasion but all our meat from this visit was just as fatty! Food was horrible, had a family birthday dinner here. You could definitely tell the food had been sitting around all day. My Grandson who loves ribs and baked beans refused to eat either one. Ok so completely disregard that recent terrible review.. my husband and I eat out alllll the time... we know when food is good and when it isn't... this place is off the charts amazing!!! We have tried most everything and the food is equally as good as the service,. We literally cry that they are closed mondays .. but they work so hard to feed us such outstanding bbq food that we will allow them to be closed ... they make amazing drinks too... and have karaoke on Saturdays .. they have lots of live music and trivia days too but we have yet to make it to those.. the bbq meats they have are so good... we always take some to go too.. cause we love it so much.. it smells sooooo good in Winlock now because of them smoking there meat!!! We live just north up by exit 68.. and usually head north for eating out.. but ever since we discovered Boss Hogg's .. we just head to Winlock to eat.. thank you guys for providing us food so much!! Hubby and I decided to drive to Winlock, Washington in search of Boss Hogg's BBQ. It was a bit of a country drive, and when we arrived in Winlock, we overshot the mark just a bit. FYI... It's the black smoker outside surrounded by little piggy signs; You can't miss it, but we did. Oops! So, we drove around the block (around the entire town?) to correct our mistake. Walking inside the building was like stepping into another world I remember from my childhood. It had to have some interesting and historical stories in its past, and could easily pass for a barn dance location. Just inside, there is a walk-up window flanked by chalkboard signs with an extensive menu of BBQ delights, and daily specials. Behind us was a cooler of bottled sodas and water to whet your whistle. The ladies in the window were very friendly, and answered all our questions. While looking over the menu, Hubby suggested the $60 Family Meal Deal ("Feeds 4+") so we could eat leftovers for the next few meals without the fuss of cooking and washing dishes. I jumped on his idea while it was still an option. LOL The ladies prepared a leaning tower of round aluminum pans filled with large dinner rolls, cole slaw, our choice of 2 additional side dishes (Mac & Cheese, and Southern Green Beans), and the 2 smoked BBQ meats we selected (Pulled Pork and Smoked Sausage). I also bought an individual side of their Loaded Baked Beans. Our take-out bag looked like we were going into the catering business. LOL The ladies set us up at a gingham table with paper-lined baking pans, and plastic utensils for our indoor picnic. We were also served a gigantic squeeze-bottle of BBQ sauce to add an additional level of yum to our pulled pork, and smoked sausage feast. The baking pans were a great idea because no mere paper plate could handle the load of this buffet-in-a-bag. The pig-out days of my youth are long gone, but I managed to clean my plate, and we left most satisfied with leftovers galore. We headed around the block one more time with camera in hand for a photo of The World's Largest Egg, a local nod to retro roadside attractions long since gone, before leaving town, and heading home. Later in the evening, we tried to put another dint into our BBQ feast, but still haven't found the silver (ahem... aluminum) lining at the bottom of the take-out pans, and not for a lack of trying. (Note: Since writing this review, Hubby and I ate lunch the following day, and still have enough for another dinner before ditching the aluminum pans!) The $60 Family Meal Deal is a great bargain for all the delicious food you get, and the yummy memories of summertime reunions with smoked meat barbecue, and recipes straight out of ladies monthly magazines. PICKY EATER! I have been spoiled for BBQ by Texas BBQ. I used to drive long haul so I've had BBQ all over the country. My wife and I have been looking for a good place for BBQ for a long time. We live in Kelso and there's nothing there that's really good. Well we finally found it! Boss Hogs BBQ Believe the reviews here. (except that one) I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Most places don't have the slaw on the sandwich. This one does and it's awesome! With the first bite I got the perfect rush of smoked flavor. The pork was nice and juicy, and the slaw made it even better. The sandwich was the perfect size, not tiny like other places. I also had the Mac and cheese. I'm super picky about Mac and cheese. I only like the cheapy Kraft for .99. Boss's Mac and cheese was amazing! I had the apple crisp with ice cream for dessert and let me tell you, it's every bit as delicious as G-ma could of made it! The decor in the place is super country comfortable and clean. The kind of place you wanna have a good ol' fashion honky tonk night of food and music with your girl. Oh ya, and it's super kid friendly. Big screen TV's with sports. And the staff are just down right awesome. I have without a doubt found my new favorite restaurant. P. S. Buddy brought us a big box of boss hawgs to work last Saturday. Being a bbq aficionado myself, I was skeptical. Well, that didn't last long once the boxes got opened!! Ribs, brisket, coleslaw, potato salad, Mac n cheese, rolls and bbq sauce. Mac n cheese was a little spicy, and excellent, brisket was epic, melt in your mouth tender and excellent smoke flavor. Ribs, pull off the bone tender, great depth of smoke flavor, coleslaw and potato salad both very good. Boss hogs is a legit, authentic Texas bbq joint.
