This place is a blast! My Birthday is the 4th of a July and I celebrated it with 25 of my friends! We took up the whole bar :) I tried to make a reservation 3 weeks before but they said they were full so I got there 45mins before they open and stood in the Hot sun, turns out it was 96 degrees at 10:25am one of the hottest days in the summer thus far but I did it we all got a seat in the first come first serve area! The DJ, The bartenders and all the staff treated me and my friends like the princess's and kings we are! We recently hosted a 50 person birthday for my wife with family and friends at the BossCat Newport Beach location. The room was the perfect size and the food was fantastic ( especially the Hors D'oeuvres and the Short Rib entrees! ). Susan Yazarlou, the private events manager was a huge help in planning our event and was there for the entire evening to make sure that everything ran smoothly. The DeeJay Susan recommended did a really great job and kept us all dancing well in to the night! The food and beverage servers were very nice also, and the drinks were perfect! I asked my husband to accompany me, he waited outside and was chased by the waitress who assumed we were walking out on a bill when we had asked another waiter where the restroom was and he had seen us. I came here with a friend on a Friday night. We started off with the Gumbo Gravy Fries and Fried Oysters. Both of which are really delicious. We also orders some drink I got the Kentucky Mule which is good. A tad strong but I've never so no to a strong drink. For my main meal I got the Bosscat Burger this burger isn't customizable. Two weeks away from the event, Melanie called to check on my rsvp and asked me to pick my four dishes for the event because it was like family style which included endless mimosas and bloody Mary's, for only $28/person! The four dishes: 1) MY ALL TIME FAVORITE: the fruity pebbles French toast with bacon bits! HELLA ! 2) Chicken fried steak - crunchy but still juicy! 3) Bosscat burgers - perfectly medium! 4) Pulled pork sandwich - packed with pork, gotta share this one! The food and drinks were amazing and the service was even better! We sat at the bar with Kate for lunch and we wanted to have some appetizers and cocktails. I am gluten intolerant so I was very excited to see their gluten-free options and that they were clearly labeled because eating out with an allergy can be a complete nightmare. Sadly, they were out of the pig candy! I was heartbroken. Kate was an absolute QUEEN, and went into the kitchen to ask the chef if he could prepare some since I had my heart set on them. We had to wait a bit, but so worth it. They were delicious! Thanks, Chef and thanks to Kate! Both really delish, but the shrimps and grits dish was soupy and there were only three tiny slivers of pork belly hidden among the potato wedges. This is a neat place to have in a part of Orange County that's not DTSA or Anaheim Packing District. We'd been wanting to go and finally got the chance this past weekend. We arrived at opening time (didn't make ressies) and were shown to a large table in the middle of all the action, just next to the bar. Awesome...I'm always appreciative of not being packed in like sardines. We did notice that is is extremely dim where we were seated so cell phone flashlights were definitely required. Sister-in-law Mariam T. was there for the pork belly poutine. I'm a fan of Canada's most popular dish as well so we had to get it. Unsurprisingly, this was their version of this classic. They used large potato wedges (so-so) and topped it with a few slices of pork belly and some brown gravy. (Looked black in the dark.). Although it was their most popular dish, it wasn't our favorite. I guess it just wasn't poutine-y enough?? More gravy! Cheese curds! Other dishes: Fried oyster appetizer: This was delicious but I wouldn't say it was extraordinary. The comeback sauce was their version of a spicy mayo Short Rib entree: The outside of the short rib was good but once you got inside, it was bland. Maybe more seasoning on the outside so it translates to the inside? Pretty tender. Shrimp & Grits: Probably my favorite of the night. Great flavor, cute little rock shrimp. Avocado Farm Salad: Also a favorite. The citrusy dressing was perfectly offset by the blue cheese and rich avocado chunks. Side order of Whiskey Okra: The okra was great but they used Chinese sausage which was already sweet in itself. When also coated in the whiskey sauce, it became way too sweet. Red Velvet Churro: Our server told us this was getting phased out so we should get it while we could. We did. And it was awesome. We appreciated that the churro itself wasn't sweet so the cream cheese dip was perfect with it. Drinks were very tasty - We alternated between the South Side Car, Boss Lady and the Bosscat. They also had a great beer selection on their board. Towards the end of our stay, it started to get a little more lively. I can see this being an awesome hangout. My husband and I shared 4 items (appetizers and sides), and enjoyed them all: 1) Pulled pork hush puppies - tasty and served with an excellent mustard sauce 2) Gumbo gravy fries - delicious and unique 3) Kale salad with bourbon chicken - fresh and flavorful 4) Whiskey glazed okra with sausage - delicious and very unique Our cocktails were also amazing. On a hot late summer/early fall day, it actually feels like Vegas because the restaurant opens out to the plain air so it's essentially the outside temperature. FOOD- Unfortunately, just OK to me. Or table of three shared it three brunch entrées and then particularly stood out to me. I thought the blue velvet pancakes with peanut butter sauce was a little much. DRINKS- The drinks are what really makes Bosscat stand out. I would come just for their unlimited mimosas for $28 including an entrée. At one point my mimosa was straight up champagne - no complaints just saying. I can't remember how many mimosas we had but it was definitely a liberal amount. SERVICE- Our waitress was extremely nice and friendly and upon hearing that was my birthday, she made a sign out of a pig shaped chalkboard, which I thought was cute. There was one waiter who kept spilling while pouring mimosas, which, nothing against him because we found it hilarious. Overall, I would come back for the bottomless mimosas including an entrée. Came here as was in the area for work. Saw the numerous good yelp reviews...add in the whisky and who can resist?!! Arrived and was greeted and seated quick enough. Menu is primarily a creole type menu and looked really good. Opted for the barbecue salmon and the shrimp with grits ( with cheddar) after recommendations from the waiter / barkeep. Threw in some Mac and cheese and okra and we were on our way to some amazing food. The shrimp and grits were sooooo good! Mac and cheese was baked to perfection and okra were suprisingly good....add in the myriad of whiskies on tap ( had a Nikka whisky and a hakushu 12...bc well Japanese whisky is a perfect southern food compliment!! )....Service was good and would highly recommend if you're in the area...I feel the reviews were justified and the place lived up to the hype!! I must amend my review because I had a phenomenal experience at Bosscat's for Sunday Brunch. If you haven't had brunch there, you must go. We had reservations but we still waited (there was a walk in line that moved way faster). We learned that the walk in line patrons were seated at the bar; the tables were reserved for reservation parties. We got to meet John the owner (can't miss him--he's super tall) who was very nice and welcoming to my fiance and I. This was a return visit for us so we had a nice sign on our table. It really made us feel special! We started with the fruity pebbles french toast, along with unlimited bloody mary's and mimosas. I always switch out my OJ for cranberry because I don't like that much sugar. The fruity pebbles french toast is very sweet, and we were warned by Leslie that it would be, but it's delicious. So innovative and I liked how there were a few pieces of fruit on it. We probably should have stopped there, but Timmy and John suggested we pair it with something savory. I chose the crawfish ramen scramble, my fiance got the Short Rib Chilaquiles. These were very popular as I didn't see too many other dishes come out to other tables. The dishes look small but were very big and filling (looks were decieving!). I liked the ramen noodles--something novel as I've never had that for brunch before. The kimchi that came with it really worked well with the dish and I liked the little crawfish too (another first for me). The short ribs were amazing, as I was told. The beef shortribs and guac made for a very filling meal. We did not have room for any more food. Our drinks were constantly refilled and service was amazing. As an added bonus, we got to visit the whiskey room which was neat since there was some cool bottles (who knew the Japanese were skilled at whiskey distillation?!). Went on a Thursday, the place was fairly busy. The wait time was 45mins, so we proceeded to the bar and noticed empty tables scattered everywhere...that was interesting. We waited patiently as the bartenders were talking amongst themselves. That was a bit annoying. The selection of vineo that they offered on the menu was fair. We both wanted the bosscat burger but my friend is picky with the sauce and we were told that there are absolutely NO substitutions/changes allowed for this particular item on the menu. I got the donut burger and I tried the fruity pebble French toast my buddy got. The donut burger is the perfect hangover cure and if you like extra sweetiness go for the French toast. I would've gave this 5 stars bc I like the bartenders, food, drinks and whiskey selection. However, I give the hostess with long dark hair and green streaks in it a 1 star or less. My friend and I called when we were in the way and she said no reservations taken, 1 hour wait to sit and 0-5 minute wait for bar depending. We arrived and she was not helpful and said hour and a half wait and I said ok is there open seating at the bar and she said they aren't allowing anymore seating at the bar. (Who doesn't allow seating at the bar?) I told her we called just before arriving and on the phone they just said ok to find seats if available at the bar. She didn't care. I said okay we will put our name down for hour and a half wait. She said she couldn't do that. Then a guy came out and looked busy or preoccupied and said no more taking names for seating (copying her same curt vibe), so I called him out by reflecting the same rude tone back that he had in his voice and he realized and said: you two can sit at bar though there are spots. Then he started acting professional and helpful. So we sat at the bar and there were numerous seats open at the bar and also numerous tables open in the restaurant. The hostess with the dark hair and green streaks was very unhelpful with us, who knows why. She takes the top that I've probably seen of unhelpful hostess. Coralee and AJ are what made this experience 5+ stars ! The food was great. Poutin is a must try as is the Bosscat burger! I guess we got accidentally sat at someone else's table, so they had to move us. No biggie, but AJ offered us a free round, and we obliged. The Peach smash is incredible. I've had many poutines and I felt that this one is a little bland. The gravy could have had more flavor and salt to it. It's a nice idea to have the addition of Pork Belly but this dish was A-Ok. -Corn Bread Madeleines - Interesting, and fusion of sweet and savory. I can't decide if I like the buckleberry sweet cream butter or not. Though the sea salt or course salt really added a kick to that butter! -Barbecue Porchetta Sandwich - Our FAVORITE of the night! Wow, this was amazing. It was juicy and not over sauced. That seasoning for the porchetta was perfect. [salivating as I am typing this]. -Cajun Brick Chicken on Dirty Rice - Probably 2nd favorite. Food: I've tried both the bosscat burger and the simple burger. Both are good but I personally like the simple burger better! I think it's the sauce. But if you like the heavier, truffle taste, then the bosscat burger is the one for you. This time around, we also got fries and these were so unique and great! I am typically a skinny, crispy fry type of girl. These, however, are my exception. Idk how these were fried, but it was YUMazing. The ketchup was also not your average Heinz. Went with the fries perfectly. Ok, now dessert: red velvet churros. It's a little steep at $10 for 5 pieces, but it's something you should try. It's made fresh and it comes with this delicious cream cheese sauce. Mm mm. Drinks: So I got the south sidecar (gin, citrus, mint), and my friends got the Moscow mule, and the maple bacon fizz.
