I moved to this area recently from Morro Bay, California which has lots of seafood restaurants, fishing fleet, oyster farms, etc. I live for seafood. This restaurant was excellent. One of the best I have ever been to. Great variety and presentation. Portions were large. Everything was fresh. I had fresh clams, soft shell crabs with a side portion of potatoes/rice & green beans. Other family members had the grouper, the red snapper, Greek salad and French Fries with Feta. The restaurant was very pretty, the service was excellent and for a surprise some nice Greek music. This is without question a seafood lover's paradise and the number of preparation options are too many to name. We met our family for an early dinner on Thursday at this location which was perfect because there's indoor seating available unlike Des Plaines. I orders the Cajun styled Red Snapper despite rarely ordering anything called Cajun in a restaurant that doesn't specialize in Cajun or that's isn't located in a Cajun city. To my surprise, the flavor was perfect, almost better than other places renowned for theirs. The $35 price tag before gratuity was a bargain given its portion size which was at least two meals for that fish type in particular. For those who prefer to cook their own seafood, there's a market side with all of the fresh items for you too. We are patrons of the Des Plaines location. When we heard about a restaurant opening in Wheeling and their extensive (bigger menu than Des Plaines) we ventured out and gave it a try. We came here at off peak time of a Sunday night around 7:30 pm. There was plenty of parking so we didn't need to valet our car. As you enter this place it looks spacious. Dark wood furniture and a blue light across the dimmed lit bar. We also saw the owner there hosting along with the hostess as well. They don't take reservations, it's first come first serve. We were lucky because nobody was waiting ahead of us so we just had to wait for our entire party to arrive in order to be seated. Since this is still kind of a new location, I would totally recommend to come here off peak times. They do close late around 11 PM, so check their hours of the day you wish to come by. While we were waiting, I checked out the fresh seafood display. You can order here too. Everything looked good and the place didn't smell fishy. They had table top eating area by the seafood display but there wasn't anyone sitting there assuming maybe it's open for lunch or when the dining area are full then they open that section up for people to be seated. There's also huge chalk boards of off the menu entrées being served today. I would totally recommend to take a picture of it if there is something you would like as they do not seem to tell you what the specials of the day are and there is no separate menu given at your table. It didn't take long once all eight of us arrived, we were seated immediately pass the long bar into a dining area with vaulted ceiling's. The dining area had huge multiple flat screens TVs all around the room which was a nice touch, watch TV while you're waiting for your meal to be served. When we sat down we were given slices of buttered garlic sesame toasted bread. The waiter was so nice to allow us to split our checks amongst each other as needed up to 3-4 split. We had a big party so I wasn't surprised that it would take a bit longer to be served but it wasn't too bad since we were all busy chatting away. For me and hubby's order, I got a side appetizer grilled octopus, the butterflied Bronzino with lemon and capers whole fish and hubby got the lobster pasta. Both entrées were off the menu chalkboard. When I got my grilled octopus appetizer, it was served on the small side dish plate for $21. It was grilled well tender with a char grill taste to it with lemon butter with parsley. I did share a little but I wanted it all for myself haha! When I got my fish entree, it came with a side of Mediterranean side dish of Greek potatoes, rice pilaf and assorted vegetables of cauliflower zucchini and eggplant. My meal was so delicious I even asked for more lemon which they gave whole half lemons for the table. My whole fish had a little dusting of flour and it was panfried with the skin on and crispy, it didn't taste fishy and that's what I like. I would get that again. Hubby's lobster pasta was also huge, it was literally a whole lobster and it was displayed that way with pasta and chopped lobster. The sauce is a light Mediterranean tomato sauce, it was good he'd get it again. Others at our table liked their dishes such as the Greek style Seabass light and flaky, Greek style halibut, flounder stuffed with crab meat, and Crab cakes. All were huge portions we all definitely had a take home bag. If you would like to do family-style dining you can here, I would recommend each person or per couple to order an entree and share if you don't plan on taking anything home. Overall, I enjoyed dining here. I would totally come back here with my other family and friends if we are in the area. Best seafood in town! Surprised by the negative reviews on here, they're probably fake profiles (few reviews and few friends). Boston Fish Market's food and quality is ten times better than Bob Chinn's - no competition. If you need proof, just drive by during dinner times to see how crowded their parking lot is. I've been to Boston Fish Market's other location in Des Plaines and so happy they opened this second and much larger location in the burbs. The food and the fish is all fresh and amazing - I've tried a good number of items on the menu and everything is always well prepared and well seasoned. I highly recommend the following: scallops, shrimp, grilled salmon, grilled halibut, fish and chips. LOVE the Greek rice, potatoes and green beans that comes as a side with most entrees. Tried this place instead of the usual spot when I'm In town. Friend told me portions were huge and it's better than my usual spot. They have a fish market and a restaurant and the place is huge. It's lit in a-blue hue and made me feel like I was in a nightclub. Had the mahi mahi with Cajun spices and it was good. It was indeed a large piece of fish, cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The sides were a rice and a vegetable medley with a stewed potato as well. The only issue I had is the sides were cold. Not warm. Cold. Odd. They tasted ok but not loving cold sides. The food is assume, and no it is not just fish. New Year's Eve we had two of the best crab cakes I have ever had, with a sauce that was outstanding!. Then we had Halibut Parmesan horseradish crust. We both had large pieces and took even more home! With all of their desserts made in house and one looking better than the other.... Food was wonderful (colossal shrimp for me, scallops and shrimp for him), I substitute coleslaw for the two sides, and it was wonderful. Bread was terrific. Drink were large and well crafted. The room was beautiful, with deep blue lighting giving it an underwater nautical feel. Only things that kept it from getting 5 stars: - The host was cranky, refused to check us in for our Open Table reservations within the necessary window, saying he's too old and doesn't deal with that (expletive) crap. - The room, while pretty, is open and LOUD. We couldn't hear ourselves talk, even at a small table with our masks off, so we ended up pulling out our electronics and entertaining ourselves with those while we ate. The noise was a cacophony of talking, dishes clanging, silverware clunking, etc. Not sure what they can do to fix this, but it needs fixing. We had one of the last reservations on a Saturday night, and it was still very loud and crowded when we were seated. We were at the end of the room -- I can't imagine with it was like in the middle. We'll see if we can figure out an un-busy time, otherwise we'll stick with the closer, more authentic Des Plaines location. The food is worth the trip, but all the other nuisance isn't. read more

I drop into BFM about once each month to pick up fresh seafood. The last few times, I get the feeling that the counter staff just doesn't care anymore. The have never been "midwestern polite", but the attitude is on a steady downward trend. I had been looking the other way, and trying to support local businesses, but this week's visit pushed me over the line. I drive about 40 minutes to get to BFM and was there yesterday for Salmon. It's usually excellent quality and fresh. I spend a lot of time choosing my filets and am always happy to put up with rudeness for quality product. When I got home, I discovered that the staff basically drove his thumb into one of the filets. When these were packaged, the damaged one was placed under the good one to hide the damage. We went here for my mom's birthday. My family lovessss seafood, so making the drive out to Wheeling better have been worth it. They really enjoyed all the seafood! We ordered so much food, but I only took a picture of the cioppino, which was our favorite. We were all surprised how big the portions were, as well as the seafood itself! The shrimps and scallops were HUGE! I would recommend the shrimp scampi. That was our second favorite dish of the night. The grilled octopus was pretty good too. The sauce was a little too acidic for me, didn't even need to squeeze the lemon. The soft shell crab was also excellent with their sauce. We ordered the red snapper thinking it was whole, but it was filet. We were a little disappointed it wasn't explained to us. However, we're planning on coming back to try other dishes. read more

Decided to treat ourselves...went on Memorial Day after we discussed how much our deceased loved ones had always enjoyed Louie and Boston Fish Market. We are from the industry, and were surprised to find only one other older solo diner in the seafood market area. We had no idea that there was a potential for being seated in the new glassed-in greenhouse. Based on the number of cars in the parking areas, we should have at least, been offered a nicer spot in that glassed in sun room. Instead, we were seated at one of the long empty tables in the deserted market/to go order pickup area. We were given plain uniced tepid tap water. We had to ask twice for some crushed ice. Ordered a large soup and a dozen baked clams. We were very hungry and asked that soup be brought before the dozen clams. Both items were served together due to a delay...on the chowder? That was the last we saw of our server for a very, very long time. Soup was cold in a few spots, boiling in others, and very brown for a New England Clam Chowder. Did not love it, for 16 dollars for the shareable quart bowl, it should have tasted a bit less dull. Not creamy, pulverized potatoes. No vegetables in this clowder either, and very few bits of clam. No soup plates for under the small bowls and no large ladle. We were starting to make a mess and were getting soup on got the table surface trying to serve ourselves the quart of soup this way. We stared at the unattended server supply station for way too long. Finally, one of us had to get up and get our own soup charger plates, more napkins, and a spare bread plate from that unattended supply station. Bread was pretty good, but it was hard. Fortunately, we noticed a bottle of olive oil that would fix the dryness sitting on the far end of our 20-foot-long empty banquet table. One of us got up a third time to fetch that oil. A good development: The clams were large, nice, tender. Part of the clam was still attached to the shell. This combined with the shells beings fully stacked with bread crumbs made them difficult to eat with just the giant forks that were already on the table. We made a mess of the first few, then finally got up yet again to grab our own small seafood forks from the unattended service station. We also grabbed an extra bowl to put empty clam shells in, and foil to-go pans to cover everything that was in the process of quickly getting cold though all this. There was also one small stray fly that really liked trying to land everywhere. The manager on duty was sitting ten feet away at the high-top table at the door the entire time, but he did not step in. We looked around for a bus person to help with needed items to complete our table setup. They did not have any. The servers bus their own tables. We expressed this between us, quite audibly, and frequently. We thought about ordering an entrée, but too much time had passed, and we didn't want to do any more work servicing our own table. Jumping up and down looking for everything we needed to outfit our dining table was becoming exhausting! It is always supposed to be a holiday for the customer, no matter what day it is. We selected this spot because we wanted to try to relax, honor the memory of our loved ones, and experience relaxing fine dining. We spent good 80 dollars on a shared quart bowl of so-so soup, 12 clams and finally, a 2 pound whole uncooked snapper. Good money. Took the nice looking raw whole fish home with us to broil in our oven at home later. Served one still hungry person. Overall, we paid out the bill and left after getting semi-full from eating only a ton of carbs, no fish for us! We specifically came for fish, and veg, and rice, and dessert. We got tired of waiting. We were also tired of working, constantly fetching the missing service ware we needed to keep the table in order. The table then became a mess, stacked with dishes. And then we became a bit melancholy. We later tried to doctor up the cold soup unsuccessfully, and broiled the snapper ourselves at home. We hadn't planned on broiling a whole fish at home late that night. We didn't even have lemons in the house. We drove an hour each way to eat at Boston Fish Market. And then had to cook an unanticipated whole fish at home later that night, and then clean it all up. We wanted to go out and eat a nice full meal that progressed at a normal pace. All the important tables this Memorial Day were in the greenhouse. Nothing wrong with the quality of fish here. For many years, Boston Fish Market has been our longtime trusted restaurant purveyor. They DO always have excellent fish, even if you have to cook it later at home by yourself. read more

We were going to go to Chinn's, but cruised past this place first, and I remembered a top-notch review this place got on one of the local TV news shows, so we stopped here. It's a big room, with a nice ambience. Service was fine. Had a great Lobster Bisque, and a combo platter with Shrimp, Scallops and Oysters. All delicious. Wife had shrimp--also fine. The only gripe? No ranch dressing for the salad--a fatal error for my Mrs. Better than Chinn's? Nope, but on the same level. Not as raucous and Tourist-y as Chinns, and Chinn's has those Garlic Rolls and the Mai-Tais. (truth be known, if I could have the garlic rolls and Mai-Tais imported to this joint, I'd prolly swing with this joint every time). read more

Why this place has 3 stars at average, is beyond me. Granted the first time I went here, it was when then just opened, it was Mother's Day and it was jammed. Orders were taking forever to get filled even if you called in days ahead. Fast forward to 2021. This place gets my "A+" rating and all my taste buds agree. Let's start off with the blue crab claws. Unlike Chin's (just down the street), these are available all year round, they are meaty and the sauce is "dippable". Compare them with Chin's, less meaty, very garlicky and non-diapable. Soft shell crab. By far my favorite on the menu and only for limited time which tells me they DONT serve previously frozen fish! In fact, they have a great selection of fresh fish in their market and just the other day I bought a pair of Branzino which was OFF THE HOOK! They gut the fish for you and even give you tips on how to cook it. For this fish, stuff it with a little fresh sage and lemon and grill for 7 minutes WHOLE on both sides. Great tip, thanks to the friendly staff. You have to try their colossal shrimp appetizer snd don't forget the seafood boat that will serve your entire table! But the one thing I cherish most is the bread. Use it to dip in all the special sauces that each dish is prepared with. It's really amazing and you will always come home with left overs. We had been to this place since 2018. It was one of my favorite seafood restaurants, but it was not now. We ordered a seafood platter today, the shrimp is big, but it taste like fishy sticky meat, the scallop is still raw in the middle, make it taste weird too. And for the more, the fish, oh gosh, if you want a fish with raw skin, then this should be your place to check out. I do not know how disappoint we are now, but this used to be a good place. Not sure what happened over the pandemic years. I feel the food should be at least ok no matter how pricy they are.... Anyway, i am hesitate to this place now and will probably give it a last chance to make sure if I should remove it from my list. We will see. read more

For a fancy and very expensive so-called famous fish place, the cooking was pretty mediocre. The raw clams were awesome- but the salmon was not medium as ordered, no crust. The rice was good, but the overcooked green beans were army green mushy. The 'encrusted' tilapia had the breadcrumbs but no crust. Comes down to ingredients are great, the cooking is old school cafeteria. Not worth the price, even with leftovers. My boss comes here often and knows it is one of my favorite places. We took a client out for dinner, had some drinks (they have an underrated bar) and ordered a Cold Seafood Sampler, it had Crab Meat stuffed in an Avocado, some oysters, some very large shrimp, olives, and roasted red peppers. Everything was perfectly cooked and very fresh.There isn't much better than perfect seafood like this, I personally love cold shellfish. The service as usual is old school with some great personalities and very professional. I ordered for the table the grilled Mahi Mahi, it made me a lover of that fish. I was never the biggest fan, I even tried it in Hawaii, this was worlds better. How do they always cook seafood so perfect, it was well grilled yet moist and tender. Then the Halibut and Shrimp.it comes in a light tomato sauce. Really good, a big piece of fish and again those monster Shrimp, these had to be like 8/10's or larger. Then something fried, the Whitefish, I so love their fried whitefish so much. I had never had it fried until the last time I got it here, It's simply spectacular. One of the best pieces of fried fish I have eaten. Plus they have really good fresh cut fries. If that wasn't enough we got a piece of that like 10 inch tall carrot cake, I was plenty full and only planned on a bite or two, it was so good, the best carrot cake I have had. Absolutely yummy seafood l! Came here for my family members birthday and would definitely be back. Parking in the restaurant's lot was adequate. There was outdoor patio and indoor dining available. We chose to eat indoor. The ambiance was nice and clean. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. We ordered the fried shrimp for an appetizer which came with 8 big shrimp and fries that we split. For our entrees we all ordered something different. I ordered the shrimp and scallop combo, another family member ordered the lobster roll, another ordered the salmon Cajun and another ordered the stuff crab shrimp. Agree with the several recent one star reviews. The host / owner is extremely rude -- he yells at guests who politely try to be seated. Our server was bumbling -- at best. At worst, he did very little and offloaded work on the cleanup staff, who were working extra hard while he wandered around leisurely, occasion delivering drinks late. We were missing one place setting, which I had to self-serve. My toddler wasn't even a human -- they claimed to run out of high chairs but magically brought out TWO for the table next to us, 15 minutes after they claimed they had none. Two other tables nearby offered water to toddlers, but I had to ask. The server brought one out 15 minutes later. Lastly, how is it even possible for oysters to be BLAND? Kudos to the server assistant who got us bread refills, cleared our empty clamshells, and immediately got my toddler some water. He should be promoted. read more

This place is amazingly inept. We arrived for our reservation at 6:45 a couple minutes early. We'd never been there before but it seems the dining area is one half bar room and one half dining room. We were seated in the TV room, in a corner booth. Oh well....let the nightmare unfold. We were seated right away and then forgotten. About 10 minutes passed before we even were acknowledged and handed menu's by a guy who wasn't even our waiter. We placed a drink order that took another 10 minutes or so to arrive and we didn't have bread or water tabled in that period of time. We ordered appetizers; saganaki (good) and oysters Rockefeller (tiny oysters under copious amounts of spinach and cheese). Wildly overpriced. When we were done with our appetizers, we ate all the bread (five adults), so we asked the waiter for more but it never showed. Finally a bus boy was flagged down and he brought us another basket. And even the bus boy didn't haul away the dirty plates from the round a appetizers. So we just piled 'em up and tried to give ourselves some elbow room. Then came dinner, 90 minutes after we were seated! Salmon with crab served barely warm. Accompanied by asparagus spears the diameter of a nickel. Asparagus are supposed to be thin and succulent; not fat, fibrous and inedible! I've attached a photo using the width of a table knife as a reference to the diameter of the asparagus. The crab cake entre' was described as turkey stuffing. Of the two cakes plated, one was kinda picked at and the other left on the plate untouched. The walleye was perfect, the halibut was very good and the scallops and scampi combo was a train wreck; under cooked scallops and over cooked scampi. So two of five meals passed muster. The five dinners with a couple cocktails and two bottles of wine cost about $350.00 before gratuity. The table service was sub par even when compared to the food. We watched the tables all around us turn over, waited on by the guy we had, as we sat watching two charming young ladies beat each other bloody in a MMA cage fight. GREAT dinner time viewing. My wife felt as though he simply did not want to wait on us. He was right next to us several times without even a cursory glance. This is one and out for us. So bad. ZERO stars! read more
