Hoping that my 5 stars and excitable review are enough to bring the Animal Fries to the permanent menu, because boy are they worth the 5 stars alone!! My second time here, I enjoyed the delish chicken sandwich (which I admit was a bit steep of a price for only 2 chicken tenders) while others in my party enjoyed burgers and a rye sandwich. Everyone was satisfied! Our server was very kind and attentive, and we could tell that the bartenders were speedy. It's a classic Boston sports bar with trivia placemats and homages all around the restaurant. Very local and enjoyable spot. Please add the animal fries full time! I was here a year ago. Sat at the bar, and after 15 minutes with no bartender approaching. I walked out. Decided to try it again the other day. Same experience, you feel invisible sitting at the bar while the bartenders chat it up with the regulars. Luckily a couple sat down next to me and when the bartender went directly to them, they said to her that I was there first. Thank you She took my order hastily. She quickly put menus in front of the other couple while I sat and waited. Fast forward, I ordered a cheeseburger med rare. It was actually very good. Unexpectedly big and delicious. Generally it was pretty good, but a bit of a gut bomb, and the sweet potato fries and onion rings weren't worth the extra cost. Food was horrible for my birthday dinner. We got take but I wish I was there to send it back. Ordered 2 chicken parm dinners, a turkey dinner, and a turkey burger. The chicken parm had chunks of breaded coating that were clumped on the chicken, no sauce on the pasta. About 80% of the pasta was dry/no sauce. Only under the chicken was there sauce. Me and my son were so disappointed. We once ordered a chicken parm that was amazing. This was not it. Also added the wrong pasta. How hard is it to get the pasta right? There's only 2 options. My wife's turkey burger was not great either. My oldest said the turkey dinner was good. It didn't look appealing though. Not like the photo on the menu. I doubt I'll eat there again. read more

This is a good (large but not sprawling) sports bar and grill. It is also essentially an homage to Boston sports teams from years past and from present. Very nice people working here, and that definitely makes a great difference! The menu is sort of "standard sports bar and grill," with some fun Boston whimsy. Their burgers include eclectic toppings that are named after former Red Sox stars, and their prime rib is a tribute to Durgin Park, a much loved old restaurant in Boston, now closed. On a recent lunch, I tried the fish tacos, which were truly delicious. The fried halibut was fresh and not at all greasy, and came with toppings that were perfect complements for the three large soft tacos, as they still let the flavors of the fresh fish shine through. I asked for their onion rings as the accompaniment. They are very much homemade and crispy, and are best described as addictive. The place has a very large horseshoe shaped bar, surrounding many televisions with various sports channels. The atmosphere is bustling, but not nearly as overwhelmingly loud as at some other sports bars. With a good assortment of beers on tap, excellent food and reasonable prices, this is a winning combination! Four stars, as although the fish tacos were clearly five stars, I will go back to try other menu and bar items. But from this experience, it is definitely in "five star territory"! read more

Had a friend's lunch recently at Boston Tavern in Norwood. All in all, it was a very good experience. We all got different things, and all of us enjoyed the food. I had the Tenders, Fries and Rings which were delicious and served nice and hot. The portion size was impressive, and I had enough for two more meals! Our waitress was great... very efficient and pleasant. My only complaint is that the restaurant is quite dark and quite loud. Immediately YES. The minute I walked through the door, I knew I came to the right place. I love a good sports bar, and this place delivered! My husband and I stumbled upon this place accidentally and decided to go in for dinner. We sat at the bar and ordered some "tall" beers. I got the fish & chips for my entree and my husband got steak tips. My fish was a huge flakey filet that was fried perfectly in a lovely light batter. I loved the tartar sauce and coleslaw that came with it - my only complaint is I wish I had more of each as they were both delicious! My husband said he enjoyed his steak tips and they were cooked to a nice medium-rare, as requested. I tried his mashed potatoes and green beans which were just the basics cooked perfectly. We ordered the dumpling appetizer and two Clam strip plates. The dumplings were of the same inferior quality that you'd get by buying frozen dumplings at your local supermarket and they tasted so plain. They didn't even manage to get the dipping sauce correct and this was just awful. The clam strips for both of us were overcooked and super chewy and rubbery. Again, I have to assume that these clams were purchased frozen and then heated and served. Unfortunately, the whole experience reminded me of going out to Friendly's, all in all. The prices, however, were NOT friendly...$13.99 plus tax (and tip) for 8 frozen out of a bag very odd tasting dumplings and sauce is ridiculous! Our waitress was distracted and kept looking at other tables when we gave her our order. We had so many complaints that we simply ate 1/2 of everything and just left. I'm pretty sure we would have been judged/labelled as "complainers". Overall, we just can't recommend the place, and we won't be going back. read more

I hadn't been there in several months and decided to try it again with a friend of mine. Now I know why. I like my burger cooked well which it was. My onion rings were greasy and the breading was falling off from the onions. Not appealing at all. My friend ordered Shepherds Pie and was expecting a crust along with a layer of meat and potatoes. To be fair, each restaurant has their own recipe but don't expect crust they only do a layer of potatoes no crust. The service was excellent. She offered was complimentary soup of the day.... Chicken Noodle, delish and checked on us a couple of times. The ambience is typical tavern setting with sports memorabilia decorating the walls. We ordered the stuffed quahog as an appetizer. It came with a side of butter, which was needed as it was a bit dry but still very tasty. The lobster roll was filled with plenty of lobster. I live less than 10 minutes from this restaurant. I've come here once or twice. The meals here were never spectacular, but they were acceptable in quality, until my most recent visit. Our party of 4 came here on a Sunday night, and it was pretty busy. We waited only about 10 minutes and were seated. Even though Boston Tavern was not a traditional steak house, they have a decent selection of steaks. We've had them before. As I said, nothing super noteworthy, but okay. Well on this occasion 3 of our party of 4 ordered steaks. 2 ribeyes, and 1 NY strip. I know this was not the Capital Grill, so I wasn't expecting a miracle, But for a fair price, I expected a fair piece of meat. These were anything but. When the steaks arrived, we could see a lot of fat. We're not talking about the good kind of fat, like you see in A4 wagyu. This was fat and gristle. Okay, no problem, we figured we would just cut off the fatty parts and enjoy the better part of the cut. But that was not going to happen on this night. We cut into the steaks, and cut, and cut. It felt like cutting into a rubber flip flop. When I finally got a few pieces loose and put them in our mouths for chewing, it was just as tough and full of gristle as it looked. All three of us cut various parts of our steak and got the same results. These were the toughest, least pleasant steaks we've tried to eat in many a year. My original intention was to send these things back. But in between cutting off the gristle and then dissecting the steaks over and over again trying to find a decent piece, we had all pretty much murdered the steaks in terms of cutting them up. Very few pieces had actually been eaten, but it looked like we had "eaten" a fair portion of each. I didn't want to make a scene. So, I just asked for my bill, paid it, and made a note to myself not to come back. So, yeah, if you happen to be in the mood for family style dining and just thought you would stop by Boston Tavern for a steak, rethink that. read more

Great decor, love the historical memorabilia! Menu has plenty of options, didn't get to enjoy any libations because I am driving but the bar and tap looks about par for any local pub. I just had the Cape Cod Ruben, it was crispy and not overly saturated with cole slaw or thousand island dressing. With a side of sweet potato fries, a bit burnt for my liking but would pass for most patrons. I prob should have gotten a side salad option but I didn't ask. My kid ordered from the kids menu, pretty standard selection there and the ice cream sandwich was a bonus! I work in the area I usually go to this location very often as of lately my experience with an older blonde waitress didn't catch her name but she was very condescending and dismissive of my presence. Today around 2pm I was sat at a table and was not approach for at least 10mins. After 10mins I had to go get my drink at the bar because I was on my lunch break and it was cutting into the limited time I had. Good food but terrible staffing, I hope it turn around soon. Finally got the chance to visit here. The service was fantastic (I'm sorry I forgot the waitresses name). From the hostess to a manager helping bring out the food, the employees are fantastic! We were seated quickly at a very comfortable booth. The menu is large and you have a lot of choices here. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich with fries. This sandwich was THE best chicken sandwich I have ever eaten! The chicken was super fresh and the hot sauce was perfect. Fries were yummy. We ordered the onion soup and onion rings as apps and both were really good. My friends ordered the pot roast dinner and the other got the Mac & Cheese with short rib. They both said it was excellent. We didn't have cocktails but the menu was attractive for next time and same goes with desserts.
