    Junior scoop of chocolate gelato
    Stephanie T.

I stumbled upon here on my first day in Seattle and no regrets! Service was great here, the staff let me and my mom sample all the flavors that we were interested in. I was boring and opted for my usual flavor, which is chocolate. The texture of the gelato was smooth and creamy. The chocolate flavor comes through well and was super rich, almost a little too rich for my taste. They offer a free waffle chip for your gelato if you're interested. They have a small seating area inside and a water dispenser, which I really needed to finish my gelato. If I'm back in Seattle and come here, I'd try a different flavor to change things up!

Alas, Bottega Italiana is no longer the quality product they used to be, but the scoops are still generous and the service is still good.

It makes me sad to write this 2-star review because Bottega Italiana has been my favorite gelato shop in Seattle for the past 15+ years. As you can see from my review years ago, when my hubs and I came back from a trip to Italy, we wanted to find a gelato shop that had the same quality as the shops in Rome. Not all the gelato and sorbetto we had in Italy was good, some flavors tasted artificial, and during our time there, we learned how to tell the good from the meh. When we returned to Seattle, we were happy to find great-Italy-like gelato at the Bottega Italiana in Green Lake. After that shop closed (still sad about that!) we started going to their other shop by Pike Place Market. For years, this place featured delicious, fresh, quality gelato and sorbetto that tasted like the flavors they were labeled with--so strawberry tasted like eating real strawberries and so on. But on a recent visit, I got a small cup with strawberry and raspberry-dragon fruit and the first flavor I got when I tasted it was sugar. As I ate more of it, it started to remind me of Jolly Rancher candies, not totally, but enough to turn me off. They use just enough fruit to make you believe it's the flavor that it's labeled with, but the amount of sugar and other things added makes their fruit flavors as meh as the not-so-good shops we learned to avoid in Rome. Alas, I think my favorite gelato shop in Seattle has fallen prey to profit over quality. Why, Bottega Italiana, why??? It makes me and my hubs very sad. The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one is because the service was friendly and efficient, and my hubs's dairy-based gelato flavors were all right--not great but all right. Over the years, we've tried all the other gelato shops in Seattle and none of them measure up either. I guess it's time we take another trip to Italy.

    Lemon Basil Gelato 5/5!

Some of the flavors were too light in taste that it was hard to tell what flavor it is. But the lemon basil gelato, OH MYYYYY. Very subtle hint of basil, but a delicious gelato indeed. I regret not getting a double scoop because the scoops are TINY. Service was fast, friendly and easy. Ambiance, casual and small spot.

Pretty good gelato! Staff is super friendly and nice, you can try anything you want. Limited seating indoors, some picnic tables outdoors. We got the raspberry dragonfruit. Pretty amazing!

Cute, cozy little café with gelato and illy coffee, just minutes away from Pike Place Market. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and they let you sample gelato before ordering. I got the 2-shot affogato with tiramisu and pistachio; it hit the spot, satisfying both my caffeine and dessert cravings in one go. That said, the illy espresso could've been stronger for my preference. Paid just under $10 in cash. Indoor and outdoor seating available. A nice pit stop if you're strolling around the area.

Excellent gelato and great service. A must on your trip to Seattle and the Public Market!

It only took a month of walking past this place to pay a visit. We go to Pike Place market quite a bit so you'd think we'd be regulars by now. The sign says Bottega Italiana but everyone seems to be calling it Bottega Gelato. Makes sense since that's what they are eating. They give you two tiny scoops for $7.50. It's up to you and if you think it's justified. I tried the pear flavoured. It tasted a bit odd, not at all a fresh taste. But I'm also no expert on gelato. The place is set up like your typical ice cream store. A few chairs inside and out. We swooped in, picked out flavours and headed down the road Based on how many people were in there and the amount of yummy sounds, I'd say you better get down there. If you're new to this, like me, they're very patient and take time to guide you. 05/25

    - lemon basil gelato! - Several years ago, my mom got a pear gelato here since I had a groupon when she came to visit me. She has been talking about the gelato for years. My mom usually doesn't get to eat gelato, but she's not easy to please either. We stopped by here last week, and I was surprised to find many people in line. There wasn't much business back then, but the business is definitely good now with all the tourists visiting them. I've tried the flavors of mango, raspberry, pear, pineapple, and lemon basil. To my surprise, the pear tasted relatively artificial compared to other flavors. I picked lemon basil and pineapple for my two scoops instead. The lemon basil was unique; I enjoyed it way more than the pineapple flavor. I even tried to create something similar at home with basil, lemon, condensed milk, milk, and ice. I didn't have heavy cream at home, so I just did what I could. I rarely get any dessert with lemon or lime since it takes a TON of sugar to make them sweet, but this is one exception. The price here wasn't that good, and it's pretty much tourist price.. But if you are a tourist, I think that makes sense lol. I'll come back to try other flavors!

Amazing flavors, very smooth gelato and sorbet where you can see the fruit! Friendly staff, you can sample flavors. Inviting entrance, clean and modern design. Must stop when visiting Pike Place Market

Cute little gelato shop by pike place! Came here after dinner for a sweet treat. They let us sample so many different flavors. Finally settled on the coffee because it was the least sweet and had a great coffee flavor. Got the small to share between 3 people. Sooo yummy.

The shop is called Bottega Gelato, but I can't find it on Yelp. They offer about six ice cream flavors that are both gluten-free and dairy-free every day. Another six flavors contain dairy or nuts, but they only use 2% milk yet still creamy! The ice cream is not overly sweet, as many gluten-free dessert shops tend to be excessively sweet for my taste. Their famous flavor is pistachio, and they also have seasonal options and all made from fresh ingredients. The flavors are updated quite frequently throughout the season. The ice cream size is huge! Abby is super nice, even during busy times! I'm glad I found an ice cream shop that I would love to visit again*n!

The most wonderful service!!! Friendly, helpful, and wanted to make it a great experience for our group! This is the most amazing gelato I've had in my whole life!!!!

The butter chicken I brought because I was starving. The pistachio gelato and caramel latte were just as delicious. She got dragon fruit.

Whenever I come to Pike Place market this is always the stop afterwards. It's far enough away from the main stores that we can relax and recharge with some delicious gelato and Italian coffees. The service is always great. The chairs were very comfortable and it was nice to tourist watch while we fill our belly with some Half decent butter chicken from the Indian place in Pike Place market and the gelato and coffees was all from this place and it's always top shelf.

My friend and I went around 11:45 am on a Saturday and the line was around the block. We saw lots of groups give up and leave annnd even people driving by commented that it wasn't worth it. However, my friend had her eye on the banana pudding hojicha so we stayed. The inside is cute, very crowded so you definitely have to loiter for tables as they become available. I do love the little tables and chairs by the entrance, definitely a call out to the asian experience. For 3 drinks, our total was ~30 so with my tip, $34 dollars total. And for that price, it better be good....ALAS. That was wishful thinking because the matcha was watery, the cream top had almost no flavor and the entire drink was lackluster. My friend's hojicha was undrinkable imo though she said the banana pudding was the best part and saved the drink for her. We also got the phe keo -- caramel coffee with honeycomb which was the saving grace but also a tad too cloyingly sweet for me. This is not worth the line whatsoever in a city with 300 other matcha spots that are frankly better. Check it out if you want to decide for yourself, but it's a pass for me.

I noticed that they now pour drinks from a pre-made plastic jug instead of making them fresh like when the store first opened. I usually don't get sick from drinking coffee but twice in a row is pretty bad. Their drinks are also overly sweet and most of them do not have a 0% sweet option, which is usually what I order from other coffee and tea shops, and it's probably because most of the ingredients are pre-mixed. They also use thick plastic cups, considering that Seattle is a pretty green city and a lot of similar Vietnamese coffee shops use sustainable cups. Sad to say, but my time visiting this chain has come to an end.
