I'm visiting Seattle from Los Angeles, and this was the first coffee shop I tried on my trip. I ordered a 12 oz hot mocha latte. About a minute after getting my drink, I took a sip and was surprised that it was cold--not even lukewarm, but actually cold. I didn't go back to ask for a remake because there were several people in line behind me and I didn't want to wait. Instead, I ended up microwaving it when I got back to my Airbnb. The latte itself was decent and had a strong espresso flavor, but the mocha syrup was way too sweet for my taste. I think it would have been much better if it had been about half as sweet. The price was also pretty high for a 12 oz latte. The customer service was disappointing. The young woman who helped me came across as rude and seemed like she didn't want to be there. That's especially unfortunate for a business located in the middle of a major tourist area. As for the drink, I'm not sure how a hot latte ends up being served cold, but it definitely shouldn't happen. I also sampled the tiramisu gelato, which was overly sweet and didn't taste very authentic. Overall, I regret spending the time, money, and calories here. I was boring and opted for my usual flavor, which is chocolate. The texture of the gelato was smooth and creamy. The chocolate flavor comes through well and was super rich, almost a little too rich for my taste. They offer a free waffle chip for your gelato if you're interested. They have a small seating area inside and a water dispenser, which I really needed to finish my gelato. It makes me sad to write this 2-star review because Bottega Italiana has been my favorite gelato shop in Seattle for the past 15+ years. As you can see from my review years ago, when my hubs and I came back from a trip to Italy, we wanted to find a gelato shop that had the same quality as the shops in Rome. Not all the gelato and sorbetto we had in Italy was good, some flavors tasted artificial, and during our time there, we learned how to tell the good from the meh. When we returned to Seattle, we were happy to find great-Italy-like gelato at the Bottega Italiana in Green Lake. After that shop closed (still sad about that!) we started going to their other shop by Pike Place Market. For years, this place featured delicious, fresh, quality gelato and sorbetto that tasted like the flavors they were labeled with--so strawberry tasted like eating real strawberries and so on. But on a recent visit, I got a small cup with strawberry and raspberry-dragon fruit and the first flavor I got when I tasted it was sugar. As I ate more of it, it started to remind me of Jolly Rancher candies, not totally, but enough to turn me off. They use just enough fruit to make you believe it's the flavor that it's labeled with, but the amount of sugar and other things added makes their fruit flavors as meh as the not-so-good shops we learned to avoid in Rome. Alas, I think my favorite gelato shop in Seattle has fallen prey to profit over quality. Why, Bottega Italiana, why??? It makes me and my hubs very sad. The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one is because the service was friendly and efficient, and my hubs's dairy-based gelato flavors were all right--not great but all right. Over the years, we've tried all the other gelato shops in Seattle and none of them measure up either. I guess it's time we take another trip to Italy. read more

The sign says Bottega Italiana but everyone seems to be calling it Bottega Gelato. Makes sense since that's what they are eating. They give you two tiny scoops for $7.50. It's up to you and if you think it's justified. I tried the pear flavoured. It tasted a bit odd, not at all a fresh taste. But I'm also no expert on gelato. The place is set up like your typical ice cream store. A few chairs inside and out. We swooped in, picked out flavours and headed down the road Based on how many people were in there and the amount of yummy sounds, I'd say you better get down there. - lemon basil gelato! - Several years ago, my mom got a pear gelato here since I had a groupon when she came to visit me. She has been talking about the gelato for years. My mom usually doesn't get to eat gelato, but she's not easy to please either. We stopped by here last week, and I was surprised to find many people in line. There wasn't much business back then, but the business is definitely good now with all the tourists visiting them. I've tried the flavors of mango, raspberry, pear, pineapple, and lemon basil. To my surprise, the pear tasted relatively artificial compared to other flavors. I picked lemon basil and pineapple for my two scoops instead. The lemon basil was unique; I enjoyed it way more than the pineapple flavor. I even tried to create something similar at home with basil, lemon, condensed milk, milk, and ice. I didn't have heavy cream at home, so I just did what I could. I rarely get any dessert with lemon or lime since it takes a TON of sugar to make them sweet, but this is one exception. The price here wasn't that good, and it's pretty much tourist price.. But if you are a tourist, I think that makes sense lol. I'll come back to try other flavors! read more

The shop is called Bottega Gelato, but I can't find it on Yelp. They offer about six ice cream flavors that are both gluten-free and dairy-free every day. I live a few blocks from this cafe and always considered it a tourist destination, so I never stopped in. Boy, was I wrong! The only tourist thing about this shop is that you are instantly transported to Italy with your first bite of their heavenly gelato! Having lived near and travelled extensively through Italy for many, many years, I can vouch for its authenticity. The flavors are so pure and fresh; even the way the way the ice cream is displayed is spot on! I've tried a variety: strawberry fig, raspberry dragon fruit, lemon, peach, cantaloupe, and watermelon. These last three brought back fond memories of sitting in cafes and strolling along the boardwalk in Formia. Even when there is a line, it moves quickly. The staff are patient and kind. Portions are large (a small is actually two scoops of one variety). This one isn't easy to write. The people running this shop are genuinely lovely. The space is welcoming, the hospitality is top-notch, and the gelato is worth every trip. They clearly care about what they're building. But I'm here for the coffee. I'm chasing the best latte on the West Coast, and with that comes honesty. The latte I had just didn't hold up. The flavor leaned bitter, not in a deep or complex way, but more in a flat and over-extracted direction. The way the shot was stirred before pouring felt rushed, almost careless. You can't treat espresso like an afterthought if you're going to take the time to pour the milk with intention. I've had a solid Americano here before, so I believe they're capable. The issue seems to be consistency. As much as I want to root for them, I wouldn't send someone across downtown Seattle just for the latte. It's a Midwest 4.
