Stopped into this ice cream spot at Pike Place and went for a licorice scoop with ube--judge me, but it was delicious. I love that they let you sample flavors first, which makes it easy to be a little adventurous. Everything was creamy, flavorful, and really well made. There's a small dedicated seating area which is nice if you want to hang out for a few minutes while enjoying your cone. Overall, a fun and tasty stop right in the middle of the market. read more

This ice cream store is located on the first floor of Pike Place Market (1st Ave side). It's a small colorful store, with lots of different decor all over the store, including a giant cone. Some sitting spots are on left side of the store. They also have shakes, smoothies, frozen yogurt, and hot tea. The prices on the menu includes sales tax. For ice cream, they had over 14 flavors. They had 3 different cup sizes, cones, waffles and a bunch of different toppings. We ordered a small cup of the cookies and cream. The friendly barista served us the cup right away. The ice cream was dense and creamy, had really good taste. Cookies were good too. read more

After lunch, my Pop surprised us by treating us to ice cream! He mentioned the Shy Giant was around the corner and that they had vegan ice cream. What a nice spot for a sweet treat in Post Alley. Being in Post Alley, it's a food stall. You can see all the flavors on display. Plus a menu is up top with sizes, toppings, and so forth. Ordering is simple and easy! Service was quick. My Pop got me a Double Scoop of Ube along with ice cream for him and my mom. The Ube was fantastic and a sweet treat after lunch! Tasted like Ube, creamy, and rich. I ate about a third and gave the rest to my family. The double scoops are no joke in size! They're very generous. There are plenty of ice cream shops throughout Pike's Place. The Shy Giant Frozen Yogurt is a good option with no wait and affordable prices! read more

It was a hot day walking around the market and since I didn't get dessert at our lunch, I had to try this place. It was a 1 lady show and she was scooping and making shakes super fast. The line was long which is always a good sign and she kept it moving. The little hidden gem had so many old school candy and snacks that brought me back many childhood memories. She had an awesome logo for her business and you can tell she keeps the place clean and takes pride in her establishment. read more

Victoria was our amazing server. I was immediately greeted with a hello and a big warm Seattle smile. She was pleasant, cheerful, and made great suggestions. And I have to say that the portions were pretty big. I was impressed. And they really took me over the moon with one ice cream that I'm always looking for and not so much that I have to have it but as much as it's hard to find and I appreciate when someone thinks of it and that's black licorice ice cream. Yes I know black licorice ice cream. I know what people think but you know what I'm here for unique experience and they offered it. Their other flavors looked over the moon beautiful, and I was wishing that I would have enough time to spend tasting all of them. Black licorice ice cream!!! First time I have seen this outside of the south side of Chicago! It's been over 40 yrs since I had this!! And the shop owner is on break I'm waiting but seems like forever! Would be nice to have a little clock sing saying "back by" and the hands show time. Maybe closed today? Many people waited and left. This is an take with you place, place your order and find a seat somewhere or eat standing. The wife and kid went shopping somewhere and I was shopped-out so I found this place and got a scope of mint chocolate, $6. It was good, not a lot of chocolate pieces but the mint was discernible. Could not tell if it was ice cream or frozen yogurt. They have maybe a dozen flavors to choose from, most too exotic for me to even know what they were, so I just chose something I knew. There really is no ambiance to speak of. There was a line but it moved fast, so service was fine. read more

Solid ice cream that doesn't have a crazy long line compared to other businesses in Pike Place. The ice cream is pretty creamy and the flavors stand out, but I had the huckleberry and the huckleberry bits didn't taste very fresh. They were very frozen to a point that it had an icy texture, kind of like frozen fruit you'd buy from the grocery store. That's my only complaint - everything else was solid. read more

I'm quite happy that I stumbled upon this little ice cream shop with a bunch of different ice cream selections. Although I'm not Vegan, I love vegan ice cream and this did not disappoint. Even more as they had two of my favorite ice cream flavors (ube & chocolate chip cookie dough) in the vegan version. Since I couldn't decide between these two locally made flavors, i got a split cup- "one" scoop but two flavors. That was a perfect way to satisfy my needs. read more

At Shy Giant Frozen Yogurt you really pay for the location, not the quality of ice cream. The honey wanted to try a new place so we dropped in and I nabbed a sorbet. It was... okay? The sorbet we had at Empress not that long ago was rich and smooth, this was watery and icy. The pictures on the Pike Place site make the shop look colorful and bright, but while the candy counter with twinkle lights is cute, the entire space is dim due to the location. It's also doubled in price from 2015, with a cone now costing $6-$7. Sadly, unlike my original assumption, their ice cream isn't their own brand, but a variety of different tubs from different companies. Personally I prefer the dole whip at Rachel's Ginger Beer down the way, so I'll be sticking with them in the future. read more

I had no idea there was vegan ice cream in pike place!! They have soft serve (not vegan) and then also scooped ice cream and the vegan flavors come from local ice cream maker Full Tilt and are so delicious (and always creative)! When I was there, they had vegan rootbeer, salted popcorn, vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut mocha, blueberry chip, and a blue flavor that they said tasted like fruit loops. The small / 1-scoop size can have two flavors at no extra cost, and though $6 seems a bit pricey, they do pile in quite a lot. They also allow tastes. We'll definitely be back here! It's on the ground level and kind of hidden away behind fruit stalls and a cheese vendor, you have to wander inside the market building. read more

we were craving something sweet after lunch and noticed this place near the place we were eating lunch at so decided to try it out. we went on a thursday and it was not super packed. since this was our first time there we wanted to try some of the flavors before deciding on a final flavor. the servers were kind enough to let us try some of the flavors and gave us some recommendations of what we should try based on popularity. we ended up going with the huckleberry ice cream as it was a popular one and it was phenomenal. overall not super sweet and has a clear fruity taste to it. would highly recommend this place if you are in pike and are having a sweet craving. they also have VEGAN options! read more

I was down in Pike place and wanted to get some dessert and thought of trying nthis place out. The shop contain frozen yogurt as well as ice cream from a couple of companies like full tilt. I was able to sample some of the product before buying which is always great. I ended up getting a blueberry tart flavor as well as the chocolate. The combination was recommended by the cashier and it was great. The sweetness from the chocolate and the tartness from the blueberry balanced each other. In terms of quality, it was standard, and the price is kind of high in my opinion. Overall, it was ok, nothing spectacular. read more

You can turn any flavor into a shake if needed and they have a few different types of cones. The crew working was also super fun and nice. Came here for a post-lunch dessert and got a scoop of the Huckleberry (purple) and the Raspberry Cheesecake. The raspberry cheesecake has some coconut notes which could be a little overpowering but mixed with the huckleberry it was perfect. The flavors worked together and were quite tasty! We stopped by while exploring Pike's Public Market. It is located on the bottom floor of the market, near a Poke place and Filipino place. I hope this helps. To be close to Ellenos is a challenge you would think but nope they have a goos share of customers.So with the hope of getting me my fix , I waited for my turn to order . I remember watching that Meryl Streep film "It's Complicated" where she played a gourmet baker/cook and she mentioned making a batch of Lavender Honey ice cream and I always thought that sounded intriguing but short of me buying a $700+ Lello 4080 Musso Lussino 1.5-Quart Ice Cream Maker and making my own batch, fat chance of me ever trying that in Montreal. So while I was exploring Pike Place Market and started craving something cool and sweet, as I was walking buy I spotted "Lavender Honey" ice cream on their display, I nearly jumped out of my skin and knew I had to try it right away. It's official: along with Kulfi, Lavender Honey is now my new favorite flavour.Smooth, not too sweet and super creamy, I would easily buy quarts of this if I could. Fro-yo in the market! I believe Shy Giant is the only frozen yogurt spot at Pike Place Market at the moment. Don't expect Menchie's or Yogurtland to open here since everything is local at the Market. While there are behemoths in the Market like Starbucks, it is still a local product. Shy Giant It is located across from Oriental Mart and next to Quality Cheese. They offer a selection of ice cream and frozen yogurt. The ice cream is supplied by Snoqualmie Ice Cream and Humboldt Creamery. Noticed that there were a number of Snoqualmie Ice Cream flavors that you won't find at your local grocery store like honey lavender and black licorice. As for frozen yogurt, they have prepackaged and fresh soft serve frozen yogurt. You can find the prepackaged ones in the side case. As for the fresh variety, there were four flavors to choose from. Two nonfat and two lowfat. I felt like getting some frozen yogurt as I walked around the area, so I picked up a medium bowl of frozen yogurt ($3), What I like about Shy Giant is they allow you to mix different flavors of fro-yo rather than limit you to one flavor. I decided to give the blueberry and vanilla fro-yo a try. The blueberry fro-yo was tarty, while the vanilla is reminiscent of the McDonald's fro-yo. That is to say it is sweet and silky. Together they strike a good balance of sweet and tart. For the price and option to mix flavors, Shy Giant is worth a visit. As evidenced by the long line on a recent sunny day in Seattle, I think this stall is going to be a real popular choice at the Market as it gets warmer in the next few months. read more

We decided to get some ice cream for the kids while walking around the market and saw this place wasn't busy- there's a reason! My kids didn't really care for the ice cream so I decided to taste it and it was pretty terrible. Nobody wanted to eat it and we ended up throwing it away. I had done some Yelping prior to visiting the market and knew that Ellenos was the hot spot for yogurt, but clearly I didn't do a thorough enough job researching because I wasn't able to quickly find it and we were pressed for time so I didn't want to looking for it. Shy Giant was a good alternative. We got a small blueberry yogurt (~$4) and it was great. I'm a fan of tart yogurt so this definitely did not disappoint. I miss living closer to this place. During the summer in the market, you are always looking for a way to cool off and I usually ended up coming here for a shake or a dish of delicious fro yo. It's a little hard to find but just look up and see the signs on the corner near the fruit stand. I've directed many a tourist here. They offer a great variety of frozen yogurt flavors and toppings. I tend to get their shakes since they are easier for maneuvering market traffic. I hope they stick to the way they do yogurt. I love fake ass TCBY flavors. These new yogurt places are giving frozen yogurt a bad name. read more

Great flavors! This is where I tried out lavander ice cream. Strange at first until I became hooked. They offer lowfat and nonfat Frozen Yogurt and Ice Cream. Shy Giant is the first frozen yogurt business in Seattle. It was opened in 1976. Their specialty is tart frozen yogurt flavored with real fruit. They carry locally made Snoqualmie gourmet ice cream which makes into great shakes! The original frozen yogurt fruit smoothy is the best anywhere. I love Shy Giant's soft serve frozen yogurt. The fruit flavors are made with delicious fresh fruit and you can taste it! I always get a swirl with chocolate and the featured fruit flavor. Insider tip: there's a small counter around back where you can sit and enjoy your treat, if you so desire. Don't forget to tip, because they work hard and always have a smile for you no matter how many tourists they've dealt with that day. read more

That's especially unfortunate for a business located in the middle of a major tourist area. As for the drink, I'm not sure how a hot latte ends up being served cold, but it definitely shouldn't happen. I also sampled the tiramisu gelato, which was overly sweet and didn't taste very authentic. Overall, I regret spending the time, money, and calories here. There are too many great coffee shops in Seattle to settle for an experience like this.

LOVE SHY GIANT!!!! They have been in the pike place market since 1967 and were the first frozen yogurt spot in Seattle. They have all kinds of flavors for their frozen yogurt and ice cream. My personal favorites for the ice cream are salted caramel with peanuts, black licorice, and coffee oreo. They also have soft serve frozen yogurt. They always have vanilla and chocolate which you can swirl and is the best treat ever. They also have 2 tart yogurt flavors that rotate through out the week usually a berry flavor like raspberry, marionberry, and strawberry. They taste especially good when you combine them with the vanilla frozen yogurt. They have home made waffle cones that smell amazing and taste perfect with any dessert they offer. read more

I wish there's an option to give a zero star. I bought 2 single scoop frozen yogurt for the kids plus 3 cups of tea. The frozen yogurt is very pricy. The teas were real nightmare. I waited 20 minutes for the cashier to boil a kettle of tap water, watched her directly poured boiling water into single layer paper cut and throw in the tea bags. The cups were too hot to touch at all. I asked if she had any cup sleeves or cup holder. She said no. The whole time she just looked away while we tried to figure out how to pick up the super hot tea cups. The minute I picked it up I dumped it in the trash can. No way I can carry this to the street without hurting myself or strangers. This place should not be allowed to sell teas, period! read more

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming with the warm white and pink lighting and the decor is cute modern mixed with beautiful retro Victorian/Edwardian accents within an industrial space. Although the space itself is industrial, it has high ceilings and feels really open, and all of the art on the walls makes it feel cozy and like a great place to hang out with friends. There were so many beautiful and tempting flavors of in-house handmade ice cream. I tried the horchata, butterfly lemon (blue butterfly pea flower and lemon curd), and piña colada (with toasted shredded coconut), which were all so delicious! I got a scoop of each of the last two on a small waffle cone and got it decorated with a koala face. My husband got a two-scoop sundae of Spinnaker (dark) chocolate and (spiced but not spicy) Chocolate Abuelita and topped with brownie bites, which he really, really enjoyed. Service was quick, and the staff member helping us was friendly, patient, and had great suggestions. If ice cream is not your thing, they also have many baked goods, teas, and coffees to choose from, plus it looks like they make savory dishes for lunch.

I sampled a few flavors and…read morenoticed the texture was icy/grainy, but the hazelnut flavor is smooth and creamy which is why I chose it. I enjoy hazelnut so I didn't mind the decision basically being made for me based off of texture. I think this would be a great place to grab a sweet treat in the summer time, but I hope the texture improves for some of their flavors because I see potential in them, but was turned off by the texture.
