After renting a kayak for an hour, I needed a shady seat and a snack.... Midway on the main drag in Occoquan sits Bottle Stop, a European-ish cafe. Great wine selection, but I needed a pick-me-up, so ordered a French press of coffee and the Parmigiana/Asiago "dip" with crisp, tasty little crackers: perfect! I've been here a handful of times over the past two years and the experience has varied greatly. 1. The first time for a girls night out dinner it was a perfectly fine experience with AMAZING food. 2. I took hubby back for lunch and it was the same delicious food and good service. 3. We took friends for dinner and service was so sloooow we missed our movie because it took almost an hour to get served (but the food was still good). 4. We still loved the food and thought we just had bad luck the last time so we talked it up to more friends and went back for lunch. We arrived when they opened and were the first ones seated. We got drinks fairly quickly, but again, it took almost an hour to get our food (and that was after asking about it twice). We were on a timeline so had to scarf down our food and it wasn't nearly as enjoyable. So it's hit or miss. While the food can be really very good, the service often leaves something to be desired. read more

My go to place. Great wine variety and a nice beer selection. I've probably been 15 times with groups of 2-30. The owner is awesome, the servers have been there forever and it is just a great casual vibe. We often tuck the kiddos in on a week night and run down for a drink or two. Perfect place. We had originally planned to go elsewhere. However wandering about Occoquan, this little spot caught our eye. It's hard for me to resist at least peeking in a wine store so we did just that. This is a small spot, but they have a nice selection of wines that were new to me. As we walked in we couldn't help but notice the tables and bar to the left. We decided to stop and enjoy a glass of wine while waiting for our table at the spot we originally picked for lunch. We took a quick look at the menu and the offerings were interesting - as someone else commented a nice selection of small plates. Our promised call for the outdoor table we were waiting on was quite late so we decided to stay here and share the Charcuterie. We ordered the duck salame, serrano ham, a spicy salame, cheddar, a nutty cheese similar to a gouda and another hard cheese which reminded me of an asiago. The plate had a sample of each item and was just the right size for the two of us to share for a leisurely lunch. It was served with a nice selection of breads and crackers as well as pickled asparagus and these tiny red peppers that were just scrumptious. Everything was fresh and delicious. The spot is intimate and makes for a nice diversion on a leisurely afternoon. It would also be a cute date night spot. Small bar upfront, a few tables and outdoor seating in the front and back of the store. We originally were sitting at the bar, but when we found out they had seating out back, we decided to move out. In retrospect, I wish we had stayed in as it was a fairly hot day and while we had a nice view of the river, there was still a parking lot and dumpster between us and the view. Service was quite accommodating - everyone was super friendly. Refills were brought quickly and we didn't feel ignored for choosing to sit at one of the few tables out back. I would definitely stop back in to this cute spot and I am glad we decided to stay that day - our call for the other spot never came. read more

In the area on travel and picked this out of Yelp recommendations. Started with the parmesan Asiago dip. Not what I was expecting but wow! I could eat that all day. Next were the crab cakes sliders. Very good lump crab though maybe a little mushy. Roll was fantastic. Opted for the seasoned chips over the greens. Bad move I guess. So visually, your brain is prepared for something like a Cajun spice and it's like a bait and switch. Some cinnamon in there and overall just lacking. To top it off, you're left with a strange bitter aftertaste that you're grabbing any other food to cover it up. Service was outstanding. read more

One con is the smell of grill smoke throughout the restaurant. I don't think I've ever been here without noticing the odd smokey smell that's accumulated in such a small space. Tres chic! If you're in Occoquan- this gem is a must see. Missing out on this jewel is like going to the Smithsonian NHM and skipping the Hope Diamond- I mean, duh. Bottle Stop has a mega artisan wine selection with drool worthy small plates to compliment your favorite vino. Not a wino? New Year's resolution 2k15: become a wino! Boom! But also- Bottle Stop carries like 6 craft beers on tap and loads of bottled beer. Oh and the wine/food menus are constantly evolving which keeps things fun and fresh for us locals! Bonus round- there is outdoor seating in the front of the wine bar which is perfect for people watching and checking out the scenery of historic Occoquan. What's more, there is outdoor seating in the back with a phenomenal view of the Occoquan River. It provides a little more privacy and is perfect for: dates, shade from the sun, bird watching, well-mannered dogs, and making out. My advice, head over to Bottle Stop- all the hip kids are doing it Cheers! p.s. did I mention there's a retail side? Superb little-town wine bar. They offer a nice upscale experience, with a quaint local taste. Highly recommend and WILL return. We had four different beers on tap and a flight of wine from Portugal; all were superb. For dinner we had crab cake sliders, the cheese board, the baller, the "that's so cheesy" pizza, and the pork sliders. The crab cake was delectable, the cheese selection was awesome. The baller was basically a meatball pizza, but recommend. Two thumbs up for the pork sliders. Bottom line ... We enjoyed everything. The sliders were very good. The wine and beer selections are wonderful. However, I am not a wine snob. If I were, this place would not work for me because I can barely take the over powering smell of burning grease throughout the restaurant. With only a few patrons ordering, there was a haze of smoke. This is one of my favorite places in Occoquan! I love the small environment with their great choices of wines and a great gourmet menu. Whether you're coming in for a quick drink, a meal, or even just to purchase a bottle of wine (and even beer), this place has it all! I've been here a couple times, served by Nick, Martha, and Margaret (I believe that was her name?? Sorry!). The service is great and the staff are really nice. The food menu isn't very large, but you'll definitely love what you end up ordering. In the past I've tried the Wagyu Beef Sliders, the Greek Lamb Sliders, their Smorgasboard, and a variety of different cheeses and charcuteries. Be aware that the menu items are not large portions. The flights are simply delightful in this cozy little spot in Occoquan. The biggest points I give to this humble location is that their cheese selection absolutely wonderful. My favorite was the ossau iraty- perfectly nutty and warm and great with the spicy Mexican wine flight I had. I love Bottle Stop. I normally come when I want to meet with friends and grab a glass of wine and a great charcuterie plate ( love the variety of cheeses). Their tastings are a wonderful way to discover new wines. I normally start off with 3 of the samples and we then choose our wine of the afternoon or evening. The service was fabulous and the atmosphere was calm and friendly- everything I usually love about a wine bar. The food is very good; definitely try the deviled eggs for a starter, and the citrus-crusted salmon for an entree. They offer an extensive charcuterie/cheese menu, too. One of the two owners is always around, so if you happen to have slow service, mention it to them. Just had an amazing meal at Bottle Stop! We started with the Duck and Fig-tini which was perfect. The bread was crisp but soft and the fig jam was on-point. Then I had the pizza flatbread with angus steak and blue cheese. It was easily one of the better flatbreads I have had. My girlfriend got the cheesy flatbread and instantly fell in love with it. I had a beer and she had a glass of wine. We loved everything about this place and will be coming back soon! PS it was great to have the waitstaff, owner and chef talk to us and ask about our experience. Very classy. read more

Excellent!! Good cheese, beer and whisky. Staff very nice and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Place can fill up fast though as it is small. Their "Corn Dog" is excellent... it is a Kobe beef hot dog served in a pretzel roll it ha nice slaw. I had mine with a side of greens (salad) and I will be ordering it again. Plan on going back more... I like the location in Old Town Occoquan and will enjoy the outside setting they do have. Beer changes weekly... wonder what it is this week! read more

I gave it several chances and have been disappointed. The wine selection is just okay and the food selection is very limited and overpriced. Service takes awhile, as well. I love coming to the Bottle Stop. We live down the block and the people there are great! They just added gluten free pizza. The wine is great, the food is wonderful and now you can eat gluten free. Try the Cheezy pizza and sit out back and watch the river where the big birds abound! read more

However, at one point , we were told by someone who I presume was manager to control our dog barking ; she didn't bark a lot and was very well behaved. Just terrible. The glass of wine was ok, but the food was mediocre at best. It wasn't promising when we entered, were ignored, and ended up seating ourselves and getting our own menus before having to flag down a server: but I held out hope. It wasn't fulfilled. The asparagus dip was like something from the frozen food section, and the amount of cheese for the single item charcuterie was ridiculously small. My companion didn't even finish the crab cakes, and the truffle pot pie was edible, but that was about all I can say for it. I'd heard good things, but what a disappointment. read more
