How did I NOT know that there were other Boudin locations other than the one in SF? I feel like the an idiot for not realizing this much sooner. This particular location is in the South Coast Plaza shopping center (across from the actual mall) next to Nordstrom Rack and Barnes & Noble. Of all the times I've come to this shopping center across the mall, I never noticed it! It is the perfect spot to grab a quick but delicious bite in between shopping sprees. I went here on a Friday at around 11:30. It was packed and though there were a lot of tables, there wasn't enough to accommodate all their customers. I noticed people were standing around looking for tables and if they couldn't find one right away, they had to wait. That kind of sucks. You order your food at the register and they bring it to your table, Corner Bakery style. I ordered their lunch combo for $8.99 which had a soup of your choice in a bread bowl and a side salad. I chose clam chowder (obviously) and cobb salad. The chowder was really good and the sourdough bread bowl was perfect. The cobb salad, however, I wasn't a fan of. The blue cheese on the salad was too overpowering for me. I did like the bacon and chicken on the salad, though. Next time I think I'll stick with ceasar salad. Their turkey avocado sandwich only had one huge piece of avocado in one of the halves of the sandwich. Kind of a bummer considering it should've been distributed evenly throughout the sandwich. You are given the choice of a side salad or chips to go with your sandwich. I recommend a salad because 1) you get to choose which salad you want and 2) the chips were plain ol' chips that you could and should skip on when given the choice. The workers here are really nice and they check up on you during your meal to ask how your food is tasting. They also clean up tables quickly after someone leaves. I didn't have a terrible experience with service or anything while I was here, but my overall impression was just alright. I ordered the Fra' Mani Artisan Ham & Brie, and my mom had the Toasted Chicken Club. We both got mixed greens as our side. I got the Ham and Brie Sandwich mostly because its fancy menu description piqued my interest. Maybe the words fra'mani or the combination of brie and "artisan" lured me in, but this was a classic "lipstick on a pig", food edition. Since all the ingredients in my sandwich were mushy and soft, it just tasted like a bland, regular, and expensive ham and cheese sandwich. My sandwich had SO much mayo. I have no problems with mayo normally, but I couldn't tell apart the super creamy brie cheese and the mayo, so it just seemed to me there were globs of the mixture in my sandwich. The ham was alright. The ciabetta bread was probably the best part. The Toasted Chicken Club was pretty good. I enjoyed the toasted bread and the crispy pieces of bacon. The mixed greens that came on the side were lightly dressed in balsamic vinaigrette. It was light and refreshing. Overall, it was pretty much what I expected from a quick cafe for lunch. I'm usually a chili or clam chowder person, but I decided to go with plain tomato soup, and it is anything but! This is the best tomato soup I have tried anywhere. It is hearty, but not overwhelmingly thick. Atop it are a couple huge and impressive croutons that are perfectly crunchy, yet absorb all that tomato-y goodness. All with a sprinkle of parmesean cheese. I was so impressed with how hot the soup was. My first sip of the soup was not alarmingly hot, but just right. It took me about 20 minutes to finish my meal, and my soup was still hot until my last slurp! I don't know how that happened, but whatever Boudin is doing to keep my food the right temperature, they need to continue with their methods. Their Ceasar salad was fresh and just was a ceasar salad should taste like. I saw no wilted lettuce, so I have nothing to complain about ! Overall, this place does not disappoint. You can never go wrong with comfort food like theirs. The service is great and all the employees seem friendly. They don't hesitate to ask you if you need anything, and you'll usually find someone right there to clean up. I came here around 8pm on a Saturday night, and did not encounter any rowdy crowds, but from what I have heard and read about, I suggest you come before the lunch rush or after dinner. I went to Boudin because I thought they had wifi. They don't. What they do have is good, fair trade, organic French roast coffee. The food looks good, but I didn't try it. They offer AAA discounts, and if you join their email list you get $3 off of your next visit. I don't know if getting wifi would help this particular location because I only saw one AC outlet. Many moons ago, I revered this place but lately, they have been turning up short for me. The main reason is that I tried their classic grilled cheese sandwich and it came out almost like garlic toast... you know, when the cheese gets so overcooked, it becomes part of the bread and doesn't have any of that oozy characteristic it should have when you bite into one. It was pretty dry in there and luckily, I got it with a soup so I was able to "rehydrate" it that way. All right so today was my first day try this place out as I saw how many people were actually eating at this place. Only mistake I made at this place was not getting to chicken avocado sandwiches that's a whole amazing that sandwich was. If you're in the area and are curious about trying this plays out I highly recommend it. If you do go please take a photo of the bread that is shaped like a turtle it's only two bucks. There's plenty of parking so you're good there not a lot of seating since it is a credit spot they do have seating outside but today was super windy so I did not want to sit outside. This Boudin SF location is located at Metro Pointe (There is also one at South Coast Plaza by the way), specifically next to Pac Sun. I came by this place with my mom two Sundays ago around 6 pm for dinner. After a full afternoon of shopping at South Coast Plaza and Metro Pointe, we thought it would just be easier to have dinner here instead of looking for another place to eat at before heading back to LA (home). Anyways, with only one person ahead of us in line, we browsed through the menu board and got the following: Soup Salad Combo (with clam chowder and chicken kale salad), $9.59 prior to tax- I am a big sandwich, soup and salad person (also love sushi and sashimi as well in case you wanted to know the S's of food that I like) and so I decided to get this. With the soup, I had to get the famous clam chowder, especially on the cold night that we were there, it was perfect. This chowder was served in a sourdough bread bowl and yes I did eat the bowl too afterwards (it was like having a soup sandwich, lol). The sourdough itself had a nice sour taste and chew that you know and love and is consistent with Boudin's famous sourdoughs. The salad itself was good, but wished it did not have cheese (if I knew, I would have asked to omit it because I don't like cheese on my salad). I requested the dressing to be on the side, which is what I got (and appreciate). The chicken in the salad was just average, but tender. After having my soup and my salad and eating that darn tasty soupy sourdough bowl, I was totally full (probably should have just taken home my salad because I just had to have my sourdough bowl). Would definitely order this again. Turkey Avocado Sandwich, $8.69 prior to tax- My mom ordered this sandwich, which also comes with a salad (or you can get potato chips instead). Her sandwich was served cut in half (always appreciated when restaurants automatically do that, makes it easier to eat and less messy). Her turkey was tasty and tender and the avocado really makes for a creamy compliment. The meal itself is plenty for one person to get full. Would recommend ordering this. --------------------------------- (Total= $19.74 after tax) Seating is first come, first served. So if you come with another person, I would suggest that you have one person order and the other grab a table since the seating is kind of limited inside (there is also outdoor seating, but it was cold on the night we came). There was only one guy busing tables, but he was pretty quick and efficient at clearing them once people left. He was quite friendly and also just randomly asked people how is their food and if there was anything he could do to help. The employee who brought our plates was also friendly and also offered the same courtesy. In the end, my mom and I had a great meal after a long and fun day of shopping. We will most likely stop by here again the next time we are shopping in this area. By the way, there is free WiFi here (fast and unprotected). I ordered lunch box meals for our working meeting yesterday, March 30, 2022. The food was good and the delivery was on time. However one of our entrée salad meals was missing the dressing. I emailed the catering inbox to see if they could drop off the dressing, and a manager promptly responded that someone would be back about 30 minutes. An hour later, still no dressing so we called to see if it was still coming. Not only did they bring the dressing but they waived the meal. I was not expecting it and did not ask for it. I appreciate the representative going over and above to rectify the situation. Normally just order lunch, but today I needed breakfast & afternoon snacks also, so I just want to mention that everything was above par. The Baker's Breakfast Basket was delicious. Everything was steaming fresh and the quality was exceptional & delicious. Loved the chocolate croissants! OMG The Yogurt Parfait was amazing. Best Greek yogurt I've ever eaten. It was very creamy, light and the sweetness was amazing. Of course the lunch sandwiches and salads are always delicious and very well presented. Your staff never forgets anything... from plates, napkins, cups, utensils and even spoons for the salad dressings. This is the first time I've seen the Antipasti platter and the photo does not do it justice. It's huge and beautiful!! I also ordered the Bruschetta and appreciate that you don't deliver it in the bread bowl. I like that attention to detail. The Treats Basket always impresses and I love the personal touch of the holiday cookies. "Actually, I don't want the breadbowl, I can't have bread today." "What do you mean?" "Well, it says here on the menu, that I can get soup and salad without the breadbowl." "But the soup and salad combo comes in a breadbowl." "No, it says here that you can get the soup and salad combo without a breadbowl." The girl at the cashier is confused, and looks to her manager for assistance. The manager pulls out a ceramic bowl. "I can put the soup in a ceramic bowl if you don't want the breadbowl." "Well it says here on the menu, that I can get the soup and salad combo without the breadbowl." "Yeah, I mean I can give you the soup and salad combo without the breadbowl." I don't understand why there's so much hype about this place. It's quite over priced and the food is just mediocre. Turkey Cranberry - tasted interesting.. It had sliced turkey, cranberry sauce, sliced onions, and lettuce. I'm not too sure If I liked the onion in it because it kind of threw the flavor off. I'll probably never try this again as it just tasted weird to me. Probably should have stuck with a hot sandwich. Broccoli Cheddar Soup - just OK. It would have been better if the bits and pieces of broccoli in it were all fresh. But no, some of it was "stringy" and dried out.. It came as a generous serving. Light, fresh and crisp with good flavour. We also bought a small bag of boudin chocolate chip cookies. They are devishly good (but probably have a spoonful of butter per cookie)! Restaurant was a bit like Grand Central station. Not quite as quaint and comfortable. More like a busy McDonald's at lunch hour. Food was nothing wow amazing as Boudin has been when I've visited before. Had some stuff to return at South Coast and had some time to kill before the stores opened. Decided to have Boudins, I haven't eaten here in years! Once inside you see the floor markers to be socially distant from the other guests. The credit card machine wasn't working for me so I tried Apple Pay and that didn't work for me either. I was getting nervous because I didn't have any cash. They took me to another credit card terminal and it worked. So I found a table to sit at. Lots of hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes around the restaurant. One entrance and one exit. I had the sourdough patty melt and clam chowder. It was very good! I would definitely come back and do that again! They may have been short staffed but there needs to be someone to bus the tables more frequently as there was one sitting empty but loaded with plates from the last guest, that left quite a while ago while I was there eating. It would've freed up a table for guests waiting in line considering the seating areas have shrunk in size now due to the new health restrictions. The best thing is that it's wirhin walking distance to my home! I swear this place is always busy...lunch or dinner. I've been here numerous times and love their tomato soup and bread bowls. I would also recommend their grilled cheese (try it with ham or bacon!). Trust me, this is not your run-of-the-mill grilled cheese sandwich. The parmesean crusted bread adds some extra crunch and flavor. The California Veggie sandwich is also very good and veggies and multi-grain bread were super fresh. I've been here so many times to eat when I come shop at metro point and I JUST recently paid attention to what this place was actually called.... I love their clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl and that is all I get each time I come. Great customer service, workers are very friendly. They like to check up on you like every 10 minutes. After a while it gets a little annoying because I just want to eat peacefully, but it's all good. read more
