Service is terrible here. My wife and I had a bad experience at this store this past Saturday. We waited in line for more than ten minutes without any customer in front of us. When we finally walked up to the counter to place our order, lady at the counter told us to wait so we had to wait again. While we were waiting, a couple behind us got called up to a counter next to us and made their order. We complained that we were there first but nobody seemed to care so we left the store without ordering food. Extremely unhappy with the way they treat their customers here. The lost art of customer service!!!! I went in this afternoon simply to buy a baguette after shopping. We stood in line for 10 minutes. Finally got to the front of the line and the cashier just walks away without saying a word. Minutes pass and no one ya even looking at us. Mind you there is a long line of customers waiting to order. Two managers were behind the counter and they weren't even looking at us. Finally I politely asked if I can just pay for the baguette and leave. The manager, a man, came up to the counter with an attitude and asked what I needed. I politely said I just want to pay for this and handed him $3.50. He rudely threw the extra quarter back at me and handed me the baguette. No apologies or explanations. So unacceptable. I also work retail and this type of behavior would never be ok. This place is on the first floor of South Coast Plaza mall near Gap and LEGO stores. You order at cashier and get your food sent to your table. The staff are friendly and the restaurant was clean. I came in for breakfast but I think you're allowed to order from the whole menu. The prices are a steal for the amount of food and freshness of the baked goods!! My son had an Asiago bagel and cream cheese for $2.78. Way better than a bagel shop!! I had the grilled Brie cheese, apple and fig sandwich and it was amazing! I was savoring each night. It came with a salad and I added clam chowder for $2.99. My husband chose a grilled cheese, egg and bacon sandwich on sourdough bread and he also enjoyed his meal. Did a little shopping at the mall and wanted my fav sandwich shop. I always order turkey harvarti. Today I requested a lettuce wrap turkey harvarti. Waited until I got home to eat. I was very disappointed. What the heck was wrong with the cook today. Mayo was so thick and slapped on the lettuce enough for 10 sandwiches. Boudins For some odd reason its been a while... I've rekindled my love of Boudins just recently! It's been too long since I've come by one. My go-to meal here is their Turkey Avocado sandwich in a croissant. Soooo good... Their croissants are always super fresh and crispy. Decent clam chowder -- it's no Fish Company in Los Alamitos, mind you... but for $6.50, served in a tasty lil' sourdough bowl, and I'm semi-content ($4.50 would be more reasonable for what you're getting)... Big San Francisco feel in this shop, maybe it's just the sourdough and chowder... pretty packed and sometimes tough to find a seat... sitting a little too close to other diners for my taste, but it is what it is... a decent breadbowl. This place has pretty good food! It is a little overpriced in my opinion and the sizes are rather small, but the food that you do get has a really good taste and is good quality! I normally get the soup and half sandwhich. I really like the butternut squash soup. It has a really good flavor. They put walnuts and crasins in the soup and it is really delicious. There is never enough. I like the chicken avocado sandwhich toasted! It is really good. But really is pretty small. I feel like I could eat a whole sandwhich with the bowl of soup. I once tried to make sourdough from a recipe by Emeril. He said to use wild yeast to get that sour flavor. What the hell is wild yeast? I work in the health care industry. The term wild yeast brings a completely different thought into my mind - itchy, burning, smelly are some of the symptoms. It's a good thing that Boudin has their own starter dough that they have been using for 100+ or something years. Just a bit of a yeast primer. Some yeasts produce different by-products depending upon what they start feasting on and this can vary by the strain of yeast also. Yeast used in beer digests the sugars/starches producing carbonation and alcohol. Yeast in bread produces carbonation (giving a rise in the dough) and if you have the right strain and conditions, it won't produce alcohol (minimal and gets baked off) but rather acetic acid, resulting in that wonderful tangy flavor we all have come to love as sourdough bread. This starter dough can be propagated batch through batch and some of the oldest San Francisco bakeries guard it like their lives depend on it. Prehistoric yeast have even been discovered trapped in amber and there was some mention of possibly using it to make beer or bread. Just think - Jurassic beer and Pangaea bread. Unfortunately yeasts can also feed off human sweat and secretions producing conditions in which we must treat with creams (or suppositories) from the drugstore. You know which ones... Er, back to sourdough. At Boudin, if you can get a fresh baked sourdough loaf or boule, has such a wonderful tangy flavor profile. It goes very well with some clam chowder or chunky tomato soup. One of the simplest ways to enjoy their sourdough is to dip in olive oil with some freshly ground coarse black pepper. read more

Yumm!!! The food here is delicious, fresh, and portions are generous! I got the turkey sandwich on sourdough bread with a side salad. It had a good amount of sliced turkey, 2 slices of tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and I asked to add onions. The salad wasn't too exciting, just leafy greens with dressing which I wasn't too fond of. I also ordered a cup of tomato soup which had a great flavor to it. The consistency was thick, rich, and creamy. I definitely dipped my sandwich in there for extra flavor. I met my friend Soche S. here last week for dinner and we sat outside because I had my dog with me. Too bad the weather turned a little cold though. Not to worry, I ordered the chicken pot pie soup to warm my soul. The soup came with the sourdough bread boule and a side of salad. It was hearty but nothing like chicken pot pie. I mean the soup was similar in taste, but no flaky pastry crust. The sourdough bread was well sour. I'm not a fan of sourdough bread. I prefer French bread, so I didn't enjoy it as much as others might. I ordered it to go, so the soup was packaged in a separate container and the bread boule was somehow this dark almost burnt color. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Boudin but I'll usually come here with one of my friends because he loves their clam chowder. The clam chowder is decent and so is the bread bowl, but it's got nothing on the SF location. Also, I feel like there are always a lot of flies in this location? I even got a generous gift card for complaining to corporate about how you bussed my food when I wasn't finished and expected me to eat it when you fished out the straw paper and napkins. First off, they have baked bread shaped into animals like turtles and alligators which was adorable. This information is not relevant at all to this review, but I just had to share my appreciation for it. I got the famous clam chowder bowl for about $6.50. I didn't think it was all that amazing. It tasted very sweet which is something I wasn't expecting, also every couple spoonfuls I could feel a grainy sand texture as I chewed my meal. I was very disappointed with the soup overall. Absolutely love Boudin! I honestly visit either this location, the one across the street at South Coast, or the location at Main Place Mall. The one here at Metro Pointe is usually pretty good, but the parking can be atrocious on weekends and sometimes the lines can get long. I do recommend coming on a weekday-- much easier to get a table and you're much more likely to find parking. Staff has always been pretty friendly here and I haven't had a bad experience with them yet. Just one star docked for the parking situation on weekends. read more

I liked this place a lot when I used to work at SCP. For a while, I was on a mission to try everything on the entire menu. Luckily for me and my waistline, I gave up on that pretty quickly. Here are some of the things I tried: Crab cake sandwich: Very good actually. There's not a lot of fillers so you do get a good amount of crab. Be careful that the bread isn't overly toasted (which is a tendency for all of their sandwiches). I got several of my co-workers hooked on this sandwich. Clam chowder: I actually liked theirs a lot. I didn't notice it being salty, but I do like salty food so maybe that's why. I always add a generous amount of black pepper to give it some kick. On a side note, the amount served in a regular bowl is the same amount as what's in a bread bowl. Use that info as you see fit. Cheese pizza: Good and fresh, although a bit bit pricey for plain cheese pizza at the mall. If this is what you want, I would go to Nordstrom and get the kids' cheese pizza. My boyfriend likes their tomato soup. It's chunky with tomato pieces and when he gets it in a sourdough bowl, there's no food left on that plate! The most important thing about this place is avoiding the dried out, mouth-scratching sourdough. They toast everything, even the rolls they serve with the soup in a regular bowl. It's REALLY hard. They're usually good about exchanging the rolls for a better one and you can sub out the sandwich rolls for sliced sourdough instead. read more

I'm such a fan of Boudin. I've been wishing and hoping that they open more locations in Orange County and so far, they've opened one new one in 4 years. In SF, you find one at every corner. It's almost the equivalent of Starbucks and that's were I originally fell in love with Boudin. Their food is fresh and delicious. My favorite sandwich is the turkey and havarti cheese. Delish! Turkey is fresh and doesn't have that processed taste. I love their bread! Chewy, crusty, soft in the center. It's just fabulous. Their clam chowder is always a hit but what I am pleasantly surprise to find myself liking is their split pea soup. Yum! Their prices are pretty steep for a "sandwich". But what you have to do is think of it more than just a sandwich that you'd pick up at Subway, think of it as a sandwich you'd pay 8-10 dollars for at a casual restaurant. It doesn't hurt that they're located in the shopping plaza with the Rack, Off 5th, DSW, & Marshalls. Shop until you're hungry, fuel up here, then shop more! They have sandwiches, salads, & soups for lunch & dinner. My go-to menu here is the half salad and half soup for $10. They have their famous chowder along with different daily soups (tomato, broccoli cheddar, & etc) with salad of your choice (cobb, bbq chicken, Asian chicken, Caesar, & seasonal specialty salads). I do come here for brunch on the weekends. They have omelettes and offer other breakfast items on the menu as well. Service is always prompt and friendly. Manager on duty constantly checks on customers for their needs and clean up tables promptly. One issue I may point out will be the consistency of the seasonings in their soups. Sometimes, they're just so salty that I felt like I was eating condensed canned soup. But that is only once in a long while (thus the minus star). So if you're craving that clam chowder in a bread bowl~ go!! If you can't make it to Fisherman's Wharf in SF then Boudin SF will be the next best thing~ read more

The "Mixed Green" (huh, laughable, handful of plain Springmix w/ Dressing) was thrown on the plate and terribly dull. How about some chopped tomatoes or something for color!?
