There was a Croutons on UCSD's campus about 11 years ago and when they got rid of it, I was gutted! I thought I lost my go-to spot for good, fresh salads, sandwiches, and ultimate favorite soup! WRONG! I moved back up to LA/OC county and realized they have a location in Irvine! I missed it so much. Their chicken wild rice soup is beyond great and so delicious! And their brownie bites are just to die for. The service was very nice, even handling a lunch rush in Irvine's busy business area. It's located in a center with other food options, and it looks to have plenty chairs and tables for seating.

Croutons is a solid lunch option if you are in the John Wayne airport area. The restaurant offers a variety of different salads and also sandwiches. I have never ordered a sandwich here as I have always come for the salads. A couple of my favorite salads are the barbecue chicken salad and the Cobb salad. They are very good portioned. I sometimes have one salad for both lunch and dinner. The barbecued chicken in particular is very tasty and has good flavor. The Cobb salad is just loaded with toppings. Their dressings are also good. The restaurant could get very busy so if you want to order ahead, that is a good idea. Easy parking. Good service. Casual and indoor and outdoor seating is available. Please come and create your own adventure.

I visited Croutons on two different occasions during their posted business hours (as listed online), and both times the place was closed earlier than the stated closing time without any notice. This is really inconvenient and disappointing, especially when planning lunch/dinner around their listed hours. It would be great if the management could update their hours accurately or communicate any early closures so customers aren't left showing up to a closed restaurant. Not to mention both times I drove a distance to dine there.

Been to Croutons over 30 times--pretty sure they recognize me as "that salad-and-soup person" by now. It's our office go-to when we want to feel slightly virtuous about our lunch choices. The salads and sandwiches are super consistent, and the wild rice chicken soup? Let's just say, it's practically my emotional support soup at this point. If you're after something quick, kinda healthy, and hassle-free, Croutons is the way to go!

Yuck. Has the premium tuna sandwich was not good at all. The tuna had an off smell. Reported to the counter and did not ask other questions or an offer to refund my 13.00 sandwich. They may need help here with customer service.

I had the balsamic chicken salad for lunch yesterday and it was very good. Croutons gives you a nice portion of white meat chicken and plenty of baby greens. Reasonable pricing menu. My office ordered lunch for 15 people today and I also ordered another salad bc I wanted to try something else from their menu, but unfortunately I didn't make it to the office, so I missed it. Not sure what everyone else ordered. Would love to come back & try some other menu items soon.

We recently visited Uban Plates again and were surprised how much it has improved. As far as service, it's more of a self-served restaurant and no one is available to serve other than just bring the food to the table. I had the grass-fed steak with broccolini and Moroccan chicken stew and hubby had the same grass-fed steak but he wanted mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. The steak was perfectly grilled and seasoned. Sesame broccolini had great flavor and tasted so good. Wish portion is a bit larger for the sliced steak. Hubby loved his selections and the lemonade. All was great!

After today's experience, I honestly don't want to return as either a driver or a customer. The employee working at the pickup area was extremely rude and disrespectful toward delivery drivers. Before me, there was another driver waiting for an order, and I watched this employee dismiss him in a very rude tone, telling him his order wasn't ready and gesturing with his hands where he should go and where he should stand, as if he were ordering people around rather than speaking to them respectfully. Then the same thing happened to me. When my order was handed over, I had already started confirming the pickup in the Uber app. I pressed the first confirmation button but simply hadn't had time to press the second one yet. Instead of politely saying, "Could you please confirm the order?", this employee grabbed the bag back from me, held onto it, and pointed at my phone, telling me to press the button. He refused to release the bag until I completed the confirmation. I understand that restaurants need drivers to confirm orders before leaving. That is absolutely fine. What is NOT fine is treating delivery drivers disrespectfully or physically grabbing an order back instead of simply asking for confirmation like a normal professional interaction. I told him that the way he was behaving was not okay. He did not apologize, and nobody else apologized or addressed the situation. Delivery drivers are people doing their jobs and trying to earn a living, just like the employees working inside the restaurant. Being an Uber Eats driver does not make someone less deserving of basic respect. I hope the management of this Urban Plates location sees this review and addresses this employee's behavior. Someone working with customers and delivery drivers should know how to communicate with people respectfully. Treating regular customers politely while treating delivery workers as if they are beneath you is unacceptable.

Think Urban Plates, but with a sharper focus on lighter eating. The avocado caesar salad with grilled tofu is amazing. Each of their sandwiches comes with two halves and is filling and satisfying. They also use fresh, vibrant vegetables, and a store associate told me their bread is baked fresh every day! Service: The service here is half the reason I come! A lovely store associate will guide you when ordering, and they will bring the food right to you! I'd rate the Peruvian Steak an 8.5/10. The bread was perfectly toasted, the mustard added just the right amount of kick, and all of the flavors complemented each other well. It would have been a perfect 10/10 if one side of the bottom bun hadn't been completely soggy from the mustard spilling out of the sandwich. I ordered my sandwich to go, so if I had waited until I got home to eat it, I think the entire bottom of the sandwich would have been soggy. That was disappointing. For to-go orders, I think Mendocino Farms should automatically serve the mustard in a separate sauce container to help prevent this issue. My other qualm was with the pickup process. When I received the text that my order was ready, it read: "Your order at Mendocino Farms - 10 - UC Irvine is ready for pickup. Please proceed to the counter." Some restaurants have signs explaining whether customers should grab their to-go orders themselves or wait for a team member to assist them. I waited patiently at the counter for several minutes while a team member saw me standing there but didn't acknowledge me. After about five minutes, I finally asked, "Can I grab my order?" The process felt confusing and could have been communicated more clearly. Overall, I thought the sandwich was delicious and a great portion size. However, I think the to-go process could use some improvement. I ended up eating my sandwich in the restaurant because I could already see the bread becoming soggy when I picked it up, which wasn't part of my original plan.

It's just because I don't know what it means to practice financial discernment when it comes to fresh bread. And welllllll, look at who's back at Brio Brio Bakery & Cafe again...... I used to come here way more often back when I had recurring appointments in the area, but these days I rarely ever find myself in South OC. Tonight, however, I had a last minute opportunity fall into my lap when I was invited off the wait list to attend a Yelp Elite event at Onyx Golf. Naturally, I had to make an "unnecessary" bakery detour before moseying my way over to the actual main event. Listen -- you have your priorities and I have mine. We listen and we don't (critically) judge! Upon arriving to my old stomping grounds, I immediately went for my usual: the hojicha Basque cheesecake. Some things don't need to be reinvented. It's still rich and creamy as ever, and it's basically the reason I still come back to this place. Since I don't get down here as often anymore, I figured I'd live life a little more frivolously and grab some items I haven't tried before, such as their prime beef curry, kurobuta miso sausage, honey toast, and a GF brownie. My plan for a sweet treat quickly evolved into a larger commitment of carbohydrates, but honestly, I'd like to think of these items as a gift from past me to future me. Brio Brio is also running a promo right now where you get a free cookie with purchase during certain hours. I just want to be fully transparent that I don't remember what those hours are or how long the promo is running, just that it's a weekday ordeal. I know, incredibly insufferable Yelp Elite reporting on my part. You'll simply just have to go in and ask them about it or look for the signage near the register, and then purchase that item you need to qualify for the deal to begin with. Consider my review a very detailed advertisement about a potentially complimentary cookie that idk how to explain the sourcing means for. Lmao, my bad, y'all. Either way, it was refreshing to visit again after all these years. If you're stopping by Brio Brio, you really need to get the hojicha Basque cheesecake. That's singlehandedly the menu item I'll keep coming back for, even when it means I'll be suffering in rush hour traffic on the drive back home.
