I have loved Boudin all my life. Since my days as a kid in San Francisco and the big Boudin store/restaurant. This Boudin is on the smaller side with no outside seating. The staff were super nice and attentive as soon as we walked in. The have all the classics as well as some new items I put in the pictures. Food was out fast and good as always. Clam chowder bread bowl for the win. We got as dessert my fave snickerdoodle cookie and almond croissant and my free monthly sourdough bread with my rewards points. I like my loaf sliced for sandwiches. Its great to know I have this option in Sac. :) read more

Super disappointed, especially for a chain at which you'd think there'd be some sort of quality consistency. Other Boudin locations have been great, but this one totally missed the mark. I ordered for pick-up -- a combo with a sourdough French dip sando and chicken apple salad. The French dip came with NO dip, the sourdough was tough/chewy, and there was no horseradish either. The salad was also positioned sideways in the to-go bag, and the lid had come loose, leaving lettuce everywhere (and this wasn't the fault of movement during transit; the lid was just not fully "snapped" on). Overall, it just seemed like maybe the staff putting my order together was having a bad day and didn't care at all... big IDGAF energy. I would have said something, but I had trusted that everything would be ok and didn't look in the bag until I had already gotten home. The only saving grace was the clam chowder that my husband got. It was nicely seasoned and a good thick consistency, but unfortunately, that wasn't enough to warrant that much better of a total rating. I came in for a quick meal, and the free monthly bread loaf ( free every month with a prior purchase), but they were out of the loaf. I ordered the fries with garlic seasoning and sea salt, and a turkey and cheese sandwich on grilled bread, and paid additional for a loaf of bread. The ordering process was pretty slow, and had little initiative in confirming your order, so I'm guessing the ordering clerk may be new, and allowed some grace. The fries were nice and hot but underwhelming, no garlic flavor or salt til you got to the last five, and small for the $5+ price. The sandwich did not have cheese, and the bread was not toasted as requested, but the turkey was very fresh and was good. I haven't tried the bread yet, but I dropped it because she didn't put the bread in the right size bag to keep it from tearing. The food prep is usually pretty accurate so I'll have to give it a pass. It was a longer wait than usual. During the holiday season, I would suggest to give yourself plenty of time, and allow longer wait times. read more

I was craving a sandwich for dinner last night so my family and I decided to check out Boudin SF for dinner in the Fair Oaks area. I don't think I ever been to this location so I was really impressed with how spacious and clean it was. I liked seeing the Holiday stand where you could pick up different items - we grabbed a pack of their Seasonal Cookies and their new Sourdough English Muffins! They also sold Multigrain Bread loaves, Chocolate Chip cookies and even dog toys! They also have a ton of pastries to choose from and even milkshakes - I almost ordered the Salted Caramel one - definitely will next time! We ordered the Pesto Chicken Sandwich, the Turkey Cranberry Sandwich, the Kids Grilled Cheese, the Rustic Tomato Soup and the new Spicy Buttermilk Ranch Fries. Everything was really good - my husband raved about his Pesto Chicken Sandwich. Even the Seasonal Cookies were really good - I loved the Gingerbread man. My only complaint were the Spicy Buttermilk Ranch Fries - they fell a bit flat unfortunately. Overall, staff was great and welcoming - food came out quickly and hot. Stopped by for lunch on a rainy cold day. Was greeted right away by the friendly staff. Only one thing is good for a cold rainy day, the Clam Chowder in a bread bowl! Boudin's clam chowder in a sourdough bowl is pure San Francisco comfort food. The chowder is rich and creamy without being heavy, packed with tender clams and perfectly cooked potatoes,ñ. Every spoonful feels warm and satisfying, especially on a cold rainy day. The real star, though, is the iconic sourdough bowl. The bread has that signature Boudin tangy chew with a crisp crust that holds up beautifully against the clam chowder. Tip: There was a long line when I got there and I didn't see a separate line/area for Online/Take-out orders. I went up to the counter and asked one of the workers. My order was sitting on the counter. So, don't stand on line. I got the Asian Citrus Salad and Little Gem Cobb. Both salads was great with fresh ingredients. Good portion. Decided to change things up for lunch and come to Boudin SF. We always visit when in SF but I haven't been to this location before. I ordered online for pick up and when I arrived 15 minutes later it was packed and ready to go. The Cobb salad was surprisingly large, I did ask for extra dressing in the notes section of the online order form but they did not honor that request. I do highly recommend getting extra dressing tho as the tiny container they give is definitely not enough for the size of the salad. I also wish they offered blue cheese dressing, as the closest they had was ranch which I'm honestly not a huge fan of. The clam chowder was full of clam pieces and not a single one was chewy or grainy. The broth though was a tad watery and could be thicker IMO. Was so happy to see that Boudin put the Crab Mac and Cheese back on the menu... I've been waiting for like ever... When I saw it was back I ran right in and ordered it first off it's now $19 (inflation) I guess and it comes in bowl 1/2 the size it once was. The old crab Mac and cheese was more of a bake and was so delicious with a garlic butter type sauce and was always piping hot.. Was the absolute best thing to eat on a cold night... The new one left a lot to be desired it tasted like velveta shells and cheese with canned crab thrown on it.. looks like all good things must come to an end. Upon entering, we observed a staff member speaking harshly to a DoorDash driver who appeared to have a language barrier. After placing our order, we sat down, but when the food was brought out, my meal was missing entirely. When we inquired, we were told that it had never been ordered, requiring us to get up and place the order again. Once my food arrived and we began eating, the employee delivering the meals made an unusual remark to the guests seated next to us, asking, "Can I ask what's up with the table?" because the two women were seated on the same side of a two‑top. Pre ordered on line for a Christmas Eve morning pick up, all paid for. Sent hubby to pick up and order was missing one item (rolls). Gets home and of course I know its wrong, even though he had receipt with him. I call and they say come back, another half hour trip, he goes back and brings home bag and order still wrong! First time visiting this location. Was in the area and what is better than picking up a free loaf and having a clam chowder bowl. If anyone that comes here isn't a part of their club. Why aren't you? Free loaf a bread. We always get the clown chowder bread bowl. Boudin you always know what to expect because they are always pretty consistent in quality and what you get. I really wish they would warm up the bread and toast it a little bit. I might ask if they can do it next time. I will say that eating there that the clam chowder is a lot better than their canned version. Chowder had plenty of meat and tasted great. I was surprised to see two menu items with Dungeness crab and both under $20!!! I decided to try the Dungeness Crab Louie! I also had the butternut squash soup. The soup had some walnuts and cranberries on top of the creamy, favorable soup. It was a delicious start to my lunch. The Crab Louie was so good! There was a generous amount of crab, a whole boiled egg, a generous amount of avocado (looked like half), plenty of cherry tomatoes, crispy, fresh romaine, and Louie dressing. A sourdough roll topped it off. I was very impressed with not only the quality of the ingredients but the freshness of everything and all for an unexpected price! Dining out has become so expensive with food costs and increased wages for servers, etc. These added costs have given me pause when tipping. If servers are now being paid a more reasonable wage and food costs have trebled at some restaurants, I am reluctant and even beginning to balk at giving 20% of my purchase. It appears that this restaurant may have considered that as well. I say that because the "suggested tip" amounts include a 10% suggestion. I really appreciate that. Service was good and the atmosphere was inviting. I also walked away with a loaf of sourdough bread because I belong to the rewards program! He is not always tech savvy, but I was proud of him to figure it out! He ordered the Turkey Avocado: turkey breast, Havarti, smashed avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, on multigrain bread. It also came with a small bag of chips. He really enjoyed his sandwich, but the chip selection was too hard for him to eat. Joe K ordered the Short Rib Melt: Red wine braised beef short rib, Havarti, Swiss cheese, pickled red onion, parsley, on parmesan-crusted sliced sourdough. His sandwich fell "short". He complained that it lacked much meat and didn't look anything like the photo on the wall menu. The food is good but greatly overpriced. My wife and I both had a small bowl soup and a half a sandwich and it came out to over $34. When I made the order. I mentioned to the lady that I am a member of the club where you get the free loaf of bread. When I mentioned it to the server she said we would have to stand in line again. Was craving for some comfort food on this rainy day. I've had Boudin once already but at another location. Same good tastiness at this location. I actually prefer the salads here than the salads at similar places (Panera, Jack's Urban Eats, etc.); all of the ingredients in the salad mesh well together and the ingredients are pretty fresh (no wilted veggies here). I'm no sourdough connoisseur, but I like how soft the sourdough is here (at least in terms of the bread bowls). If I wanted to be nit picky though, I wished the rustic tomato soup had less texture to it (still recommend getting this soup though.....strong delicious tomato flavor). Definitely recommend this place if your stomach is wanting something not too heavy and *relatively* healthy. read more

Always delicious, tastes fresh, arrives hot and well-packaged. I really have to commend consistency and reliability. 8/17/23 - Well we tried it again after vowing 6/5/22 to not order from them again. We needed to bread today so I HAD to. We ordered; #1 Oval Loaf, sliced. Was this day old or just dry? #2 Italian Classic sandwich on a baguette and extra salami. We got an Italian on sliced sourdough and no extra salami (even though it's on the receipt and paid for). #3 Combo with a Cranberry turkey with Swiss cheese on a baguette. I got the baguette and NO cheese (Paid extra for). The Cobb salad looks like it has the avocado I ordered. People DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY OR PICK UP. YOU HAVE TO WATCH THEM MAKE YOUR SANDWICH. I attended a working lunch meeting today. A variety of box lunches were ordered. Everyone's sandwich looked good. I chose the chicken salad sandwich which was good, the bread was especially tasty. Alongside the sandwich was a green salad, a bag of potato chips, and a cookie. The meal was more than I could finish in one setting. And it was actually good for a box lunch. If I'm the future I have to provide lunch for a meeting in the downtown Sacramento area I'll definitely consider Boudin. read more

We ordered door dash when my attempt at making a quick soup for lunch failed. So I was still craving soup. So butternut squash soup in a bread bowl was the answer!!! It came packed separately, the bread bowl, the soup, the craisins and the walnuts/pecan(?). So putting it all together was fun! Eating it was more fun. Yum!!!
