Boudin hasnt been as consistent as they used to be. Last week, a coworker and I visited during lunch. My combo of a chili bowl and half Turkey cranberry sandwich was great. Tonight when my family and I stopped by for dinner, my grilled brie with apples and fig was greasy and the bread was burnt. The chili was more soupy than filling. No. Butternut Squash. Soup. The butternut squash soup is off the menu due to dungeness crab season, for the first time in our memory of patronizing Boudin. The vegetable soup alternates of tomato or broccoli cheddar are not good substitutes. If something needed to be removed from the menu because crab is in season, why not take off the clam chowder which is also seafood? Here in Northern California, butternut squash is also in season, and they are harvesting this winter squash this very month. Ordered delivery from them and was sooo disappointed. I ordered the patty melt and it was dry with almost no cheese. The patty melt has one layer of cheese that blends into the bread. It came with a side bag of small chips. This left me hungry afterwards. I ordered a side of tomato soup and it was so small. The side of potato wedges are not worth the extra cost. They didn't even fill up 1/2 the container. Its like we got whatever was left over. The French dip was ok. We also got a side of clam chowder that was good, but so small maybe it left us hungry. I stop by the Sacramento Boudin several times a month. I love their sandwiches, and they are always fresh and delicious. I really love the apple and brie sandwich. Its grilled brie with apples and fig jam. Just YUM. Its unique, fresh, and always an easy go to. Their french dip is also another favorite. The meat is tender and perfectly seasoned. We always add cheese to it. Doesn't cheese make everything better?! Which ever sandwich you choose, they all are scrumptious. If you are a fan of soup, the clam chowder is a great choice, and with one of their divine sandwiches, its an amazing and filling meal. The clam chowder is really a must try. The staff has always been friendly, and I love how knowledgable they are about their products. I always purchase a loaf or three of bread when I am there. They make THE best cinnamon raisin bread. It has a lovely frosting over the top, and sadly its seasonal. I would eat it all of the time. Sourdough your way to my heart. Its a family favorite, but then again so is the wheat bread. The Boudin staff will even slice the bread for you. It makes eating a slice on the ride home oh so much easier. The bread makes the best homemade sandwiches taste like restaurant quality. Boudin also makes desserts. GOOD desserts. The Royale cookies are a favorite. Macadamia nuts, coconut, and chocolate chips. THAT is perfection right there. Parking can be tricky, so I try to go at off hours, and if you want food to go, they are happy to wrap it for you. You order at the walk up counter, and then seat yourself. Your food will be brought to you, and there is a serve yourself counter for soft drinks and tea. They even have an outside dining area that is enjoyable during spring. This is my go to place for lunch when I go to the office. The lines were long during the lunch rush today. There was only one person taking orders. Glad I came in before the rush. I ordered the Asian chicken salad and was so disappointed. The cucumbers were bad and the oranges were bitter. Where is the quality control? When my friend and I go there we were surprises that indoor seating was available (we didn't get the memo that indoor seating was open). The employee that greeted us was very friendly and thorough. I ended up getting the half caesar salad and a tomato soup in a bread bowl and my friend got half a tuna melt and a small bowl of clam chowder. Food was DELICIOUS, as expected. Tonight I ordered the turkey cranberry sandwich and tuna sandwich. Normally the sandwich has a generous amount of tuna but I found there to be more vegetables in my bite and not much tuna. It was a little disappointing as I consider the flavor and texture of the tuna my favorite. The bread bowls and clam chowder always "hit the spot". The chowder was nice and hot and pairs well with the sourdough bread. I actually like when my order is to-go because the bread doesn't get soggy. I can tear the pieces and dip the bread into the chowder for the perfect bite. The chocolate chip cookies are delicious too. The restaurant does pack of the family meal in a nice box with a clear plastic bag so I can ensure my order is correct. I ordered the Chicken Club and they misrepresented the sandwich. In image on their site shows a full chicken breast. The actual was sliced, chunks of lunch meat. Barely fills a sandwich and didn't even look/taste like chicken. Tuna Melt is good and consistent (only reason for additional star). I wouldn't order from here via delivery, there's no recourse to fix it. If you order in-store, check your order before you leave. We ordered the pizza there on e and they ran out of regular pizza boxes. The solution was to split the pizza up into the personal pizza boxes. We got home and see they'd literally dumped the slices on top of each other on each box. So half of the pizza had the toppings scraped off and stuck to the bottom of other slices. Absolutely insane. We ordered the breakfast bagel bar for a head count of 55. In the description it writes that it includes "turkey, ham, cheddar, Havarti & Swiss cheeses, assorted bagels, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, cream cheese, butter, and preserves." We had a big event here at the company and needed our order to be ready by 7am for our guests. Our delivery only had bagels. They have missed all the meats, cheese, and veggies. The delivery lady, who was very sweet, had no idea why there were missing items and was told there were only bagels. Both me and the delivery driver tried calling the restaurant with no answers, as it directed us to leave a message since we were calling outside of business hours. As a business who caters and accepts early catering orders, it's unacceptable to not have a catering line to assist with catering issues no matter the business hours. After calling the customer service line through EZ Cater, the customer service rep who helped us was also unable to reach anyone from the restaurant. I called into the restaurant multiple times and finally got someone to answer the line. Katie, I'm assuming is the manager on duty, answered and said that I only have ordered a bagel platter, hence why I only received bagels. On my receipt, it shows that there was supposed to be an order of meats, cheese, and veggies (also verified by the deliverer). After explaining the issue to Katie, the line was disconnected mid conversation. I called twice more times after she had hung up and was sent to leave a message. This was an incredibly unprofessional experience and I am astonished by how Katie handled our phone call. Frustrated, I called the customer service line through EZ Cater again for more assistance, and after being on hold for 15 minutes while the rep also tried getting in contact with Boudin Bakery, she was finally able to reach someone who works there. Boudin Bakery stated that they did not have an ETA of when the rest of the delivery will be here but will be working on getting that completed. When the second half of the order got here (with some missing items AGAIN), it was already 7:50am. Our event had started at 7am. Never ordering from this place again and highly recommend everyone to look elsewhere. I have been catering for events for years and this is hands down the WORST experience I've ever had. This locations is very busy all the time! I work in the area so my co-workers and I I like coming here for lunch. They have good soups, salad and sandwiches. I ordered the clam chowder soup and it tasted fresh. (Nothing can beat the one from SF, though). I also ordered the Tuna sandwich and it was pretty good and it wasn't dry. One recommendation I have is, if you're in a rush, definitely take advantage of the online order. You can order online and theirs a pickup line you can walk up to instead of waiting in main line to order. The employees were all really friendly and kind.
