After coming here for years we have noticed a distinct deterioration. The bartenders have been short and unfriendly even when not busy. Today we brought in 6 of our visiting friends and one of our friends spilled her drink and the bartender tossed the towel at her , in apparent disgust, didn't offer to help clean it up and walked away. Had a gift certificate and hate to knock the place but the wings were under par after hearing so much about how large and tasty they were. Nope. They were small, undercooked and over-breaded. I went here to attempt to eat dinner...Which never happened. The hostess could barely speak English, along with a majority of the staff, and did not know how or where to seat people. Once we sat down, near the kitchen, we waited for over ten minutes and did not even get menus. We left very disappointed. Shame on the owners for not training their staff and leaving them unsupported and unable to serve guests properly. You only do your business a dis-service. read more

After a terrible experience next door, we popped in for a cocktail or three... I asked bartender Cody to keep a bag of frozen items as cool as he could. I figured worst he could do is say no. At least they weren't getting hotter in the car before we head back to the cabin. Without hesitation he offered their cooler - despite the snickering of some customers. 13$ for two fingers of Devils Cut, a Kettle and tonic, and a Spotted Cow pint AND keeping our items cool makes me want to come back. Several families were in having burgers and fish. They all seemed happy. Prices are very reasonable, and the service was excellent. Boom. Sit at the bar, perhaps play pool, but bring your own dart tips cause they are running low. Haha. read more

Had lunch here today while doing the Art Tour. Sandwiches were all good; Cuban, roast beef and brisket, but the cheese curds were the star! Light, fluffy and delicious, I believe they are the best I have ever eaten. Service was fine; one gal had it covered. Nice draft selection, too. read more

Unexpected surprise in the Northwoods. Went in there Friday night because it was near where we were staying and we wanted to keep it simple with beer and fish fry. The place was awesome. Walleye was amazing. Wings for appetizer was a strong choice also. They were out of their specialty, cheese curds, so we had to go back Saturday night with friends. Cheese curds did not disappoint. Everybody loved the choice and karaoke was an absolute bonus. We ended up rolling out of there full of anything that could be fried, beer and whiskey. Great place. read more

Typical Wisconsin bar, interior is a tad outdated. I wouldn't suggest coming here if you're looking for a good meal. Food is just normal and what you should expect for a bar. I mostly frequent in the winter by snowmobile, which they provide great parking in the back right off the trail. Pool table, darts and music machine to play. Bartending staff has always been very nice. I was just here in the summer and wish they would provide patio seating. read more

This joint is a usual stop for us while winter snowmobiling. I have eaten here several times over the years and the food is actually quite good for bar grub. Really good hand breaded chicken fingers, really good cheeseburgers, homemade soups etc. I'd like if they had a deeper selection of draft beers but overall, the place is decent and reasonably priced. read more

Terrible experience here. Staff was not friendly we had four kids and six adults. They sat 4 of us in dining area and 6 in bar area (tables right next to each other. Could not use one server. Opted to let the four kids sit in dining area. Waitress seemed friendly to everyone else but this table even though an adult was helping them order. One of the pizzas we ordered was 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 sausage. You would think this would count as one topping. When bill came we were charged $7 for the two different toppings even though we could have got a four meat pizza for the same price. To top it off you were lucky if you got one tiny sausage on each piece. When questioned the server said that is how she has to ring it up and would not adjust price. Great spot for lunch or dinner in Boulder Junction. Since it is in the main touristy area of BJ, you might fight some crowds on the weekends at peak times but the staff is prompt and friendly and the food is good. Standard bar fare but kid friendly and not too expensive even for a touristy spot. read more

Boulder Junction is sort of a second home for my family and we have enjoyed the food here. Service can be varied. Biggest reason for this post was what happened last night when owner and chef was seen at another establishment. Overheard him tell someone else that the best part of the location is "there are no niggers up here." I was certain I heard this correctly and was standing next to a friend who confirmed it. I restrained myself from introducing him to my biracial children who have enjoyed the food here as well. We won't ever be back and I am certain my friend's family won't either. Boulder Junction is small but I am sure that his views don't represent the community. My family has been so welcomed there for the better part of the last 12 years. I don't normally leave reviews but the server did nothing really to make this situation right. Stopped by on a Monday night for a late dinner while traveling through Boulder Junction. Had a party of 5 and we all ordered meals. Kids meal came out first and that was great but when the other 3 meals came out there was no meal for my wife? She ordered a salad and it shouldn't have been too hard to make after the fact but nothing. The server forgot to ring it in and when we got our meals he said sorry they couldn't make it because the kitchen was closed? Really? 4 meals out and the easiest meal to make and she wasn't going to get anything to eat? He asked if she wanted another drink (water) and that was it. No offer to try to get her something to eat? And surprisingly not one penny off our bill for the mishap? We were tired and wanted to leave so I didn't make a huge scene about but I've been in the hospitality industry for 25 years and could not understand the mistake? I have been a long time customer at the boulder Beer Bar and today I was so disappointed. All of our food was under cooked and a whole meal was completely forgotten about. The only positive thing was the bar tender was amazing and if you go just go for her pink drink which she created herself. I appreciated her help and will go back just for drinks. We used to love this place. It was one of our regular stops year around. Good food, with house made soups & the best pizza in the north woods. Although there has been a steady decline in food quality (over baked pizza, soggy buns) & service (unfriendly staff), we kept coming for one more try. After this weekend I don't think we will ever be back. We stopped (group of seven) mid afternoon on Saturday. The bar was full so we sat at a table in the dining room which was 1/4 full. We were going to order some appetizers & have a drink. An unsmiling waitress eventually stomped over, dumped a stack of menus on the table & said "lunch or dinner?" I asked one of my sons what he wanted for a snack & before any of us could say anything she snarled "you are going to have to go to the bar if you aren't eating lunch or dinner", picked up all the menus & flounced off. Okay then. We gathered up & moved back to the bar area. The waitress sat at a corner table in the dining room & glared at everyone. Very unwelcoming environment. The only employee with a smile on his face said he was new. Just don't know what's going on with this place, it's sad really. read more

This place never disappoints. Every time the service is excellent and the food is great, best bar food in all the Northwoods. Whether its the Walleye Fingers, Fresh Cheese Curds, Monster Burgers, Homemade Pizza or BBQ - this place is awesome. A true Northwoods gem. And to top it off, the last time I stopped to eat here I stopped with our kids and ate on the screened in porch, I could not believe they had an entire toy area for the kids. This past Friday we were out Snowmobiling. One of our friends wanted to meet at the Boulder Beer Bar. We walked in and the place was busy as usual. We got a table and went to the bar for drinks. The bartender was extremely annoyed with all of the patrons. I watched as he stomped around getting others drinks. As we were waiting some seats opened up at the bar. We sat down and continued to wait. He finished with some other drinks and cleaned up the empties in front of us. Then walked away and cleaned up some more empties at the other end of the bar. I politely asked as he had his back to us if we could get some drinks. His response was, you have been here for 3 seconds you can wait. We were probably there going on 10 minutes. He finally came over and promptly carded us. We are all around 40. My friend said he was only 20 as he was getting his ID. The bartender said good, get the F#$% out of here then. My friend replied back impolitely $%#! you do I look like I'm 20? He then said get the $#%! out of here, I'm not serving you. I have NEVER had such poor customer service and we all agreed we will never go back! Why would you have someone working for you that treats the customers with such disrespect is beyond comprehension. We left and went to Gooch's A-one Bar and Grill. This is where we should have went in the first place. Gooch is always happy to see you and truly cares about his patrons.
