It's a local diner that was fairly reliable but often difficult to order from directly depending upon who answered the phone. Many friends and family members also remained loyal customers for many years (since the 80s), as well as being customers of what was once the Golden Eagle in Palisades Park, affectionately called "the Dirty Bird." Unfortunately we won't be customers anymore. We want to support local businesses during difficult times for all of us in the community and we'll continue to but not this one. I went there with family since I was a kid but nostalgia isn't a good enough reason to be treated poorly and not receive edible food as reliably as we should. *Not everyone at this business has been nasty to be fair. Some were kind and accommodating. It wasn't just because they've forgotten to send items we paid for for years although it's almost interesting how often someone's dinner or part of it was missing. How do they do it!? It wasn't only the wet arugula w/mold, the rotten-slime-arugula, spring mix and other greens that shouldn't have been served. {Please don't serve rotten food at a restaurant. I've worked in restaurants and grew up in kitchens.} It wasn't other dishes & ingredients that were off / went bad nor was it other mishaps such as being overcharged or never receiving credits promised to us "next time" which we politely forgot about. Some of us tried but were told "Not now but try next time." The final straw was the erratic hostile dude who (instead of having some semblance of work ethic), was snorting *something LOUDLY in my ear while making me patiently wait for him to respond to a takeout order since that's the way we're SAFELY doing it these days. I doubt he would've behaved disrespectfully and deplorably towards a man and got away w/ it. He sounded tweaked out and erratic, going completely silent so I asked if he could hear me which he could, then loud snorting in my ear, then he yelled sharply at me as if ANY form of work made him feel put upon & angry. Why answer the phone or be open for pick ups then? I chose from their website menu understanding some things may not be available. He barked at me loudly, "NO! We don't have!!" Okayyy, I named other things, some a 2nd time staying polite. Finally he spoke in a partial sentence, "YES! What you want!?" + something else aggressive af that I couldn't make out bc he yelled SO loudly / sharply in my ear it distorted the audio. I stopped being a pushover and firmly asked this mysoginist "Do ya want to take the order already or not?" He barked something I couldn't understand at me. I hung up. I didn't call to chit chat or be shat on by a raging basket case so no one got breakfast. Not the 1st time some of us have been treated like crap over the phone here. Nope. We have "immunocompromised" people who aren't taking chances picking up takeout from a joint that employs such sketchy ornery people especially ones who'd yell at a woman possibly for being too accommodating and kind. I ordered the only size calamari on the menu and when I received it via delivery I was very displeased as it looked as if I got half an order. I called to say this was a little shocking to me after I just paid $10 for such a small portion and the one person told me they could not change my order and the next person explained "that is just how the order comes"...SMH. I wanted so desperately to say something positive about this place. But it's very difficult when this establishment puts very little effort into quality food. The service can be very good and the servers are kind, but unfortunately the food is very sad. The soups taste like liquid tin can. The breakfast is nothing spectacular to write home about. The sandwiches and Gyros are blah. And nothing here tastes fresh. Even the pancakes and waffles (food items that typically bring joy to one's life) are sad, flavorless and make you regret coming here. Please, just TRY to put effort into making good food. We stopped here last minute decision and am so glad we did! The matzo ball soup isn't just a regular soup- it tastes like you're at a Shabbat dinner. I ordered the fisherman panini (amazing!) and my bf ordered chicken italiano sandwich- he gives his meal a 4.5/5 - tender chicken, huge sandwich and seasoned to perfection. Restaurant called me, said they didn't have the items from my order, told them it's fine, just cancel it, 15-30 min later it's still not cancelled, I call them to check into what's going on, man on the other end screams at me that I have to cancel through calling the delivery company. It is extremely well known that this delivery service does not have a customer service support number and only a restaurant support number. Man on other end at this diner refuses to go through the app and cancel the order for the items, insists it's something I have to do and genuinely screams bloody murder at me and hangs up on me. I ordered the item at another diner only to be informed by them calmly and professionally that they are also out and they offer to cancel the order and refund me. They do so successfully. Through this entire process I remain calm and professional. Picks up and hangs up the phone on the next attempt without even answering. I'm currently stuck as Uber eats customer support chat is down for the night, there is no option for this type of situation through their support in the first place, and I have no option to cancel through the app. I have made an attempt to contact the couriers that keep getting assigned to this order, but they keep cancelling pickup, rather than responding to me or marking the order as undeliverable. The way I was spoken to was entirely unprofessional and unacceptable, regardless of the Uber eats service. If I was spoken to in this manner by any employee of any business I would give them a negative review. I am extremely wary of this restaurant considering how their employee responded to a basic request. I do not recommend ordering from here during this pandemic. read more

So sad to see a good place to go bad . We use to come here every Sunday and little by little due to the food we stop coming . Today we decided to come back . The coffee was weak and flavorless . I ordered an omelette and asked to add spinach . They put two whole stems with spinach and all . I guess next time I'll have to tell them I just want the leaves in my omelette . My daughter California omelette and she said it tasted bland . She ended up putting her own salt and pepper on it . My husband had the bd1- he says everything was ok but the bacon was soggy and sad . I wish I could give more stars to this diner. It has such potential. Unfortunately its the little things that are bringing it down. Ill start with the good things: Our waitress was nice, the coffee was good & the Louisiana benedict crabcakes at first bite were the best I had ever eaten. Now the downfall: We expect dishes to be clean & not caked with food or dirt when they come out. The dish-ware was really nice 15 years ago when it was probably purchased. Now its worn heavily and the stains are baked into the dishware. The second bite of my crabcakes had a long blond hair that very quickly took the excitement of getting crabcakes with a lot of crab in it right out. Someone asked how we were doing. Saw the hair & took it. Then we waited. 15 minutes later I had to ask the waitress if anyone mentioned the hair. She said yes and returned with a new plate of potatoes sent by the manager. ***** this was my tipping point. **** why did the manager not come over immediately and make sure we were taken care of. **** the waitress apologized & said she would have the plate taken off the menus. Ok we are headed in the right direction but when the manager came over 10 mins later and said. "did you guys have an issue with the food?" I was done!!! Seriously is no one communicating or do I have to explain why hair in the food is a problem? He asked if I wanted another plate. Its 30-40 mins after the issue no I don't need to wait for more food. Mumbled what I think was apathy and walked away. The waitress did what she said. Apologized and had the plate removed from the bill. ( I'm glad someone communicated something genuine & followed through) On a side note: Another guest in our party ordered a sandwich. Which she received as a sandwich but was charged for the platter when she took the sandwich apart and ate the pieces separately. We were too aggravated to even argue this one on our way out. If you print a menus insert for gourmet food. Make sure the print is clean and not littered with ink blotches that made us believe the menus was dirty until touching it to see. As a manager you should make me believe you care about the restaurant & your guests. We all left with the same feeling. That there was nothing there we were excited or wanted to come back to. Which is a shame because I believe the food recipes are good and whomever is making the deserts displayed in the front clearly has a lot of passion for what they do. read more

We've been to numerous other diners around...this one is clearly the best from our perspective. I would highlight the following three key strengths: 1. The breakfasts we routinely get (simple eggs, various omelettes, eggs benedict, pancakes, french toast, bacon & sausage, etc.). I usually get french fries instead of the home fries ("no problem"). 2. Other casual meals (soups, burgers, gyros, ruebens, salads, etc.). One salad I would call out is the Santa Fe that has normal salad items served in an eatable tortilla bowl and topped with what they call Rumanian steak, which is absolutely delicious and gives me the feeling I'm getting the steak I crave in a healthier format! ...Seriously, get the "Rumanian steak" in whatever dish/entre that floats your boat! 3. The owners...nice folks that are friendly, competent and care about your business. Boulevard is dependable and reliable, and does a fine job with all the above mentioned items (no doubt others)! Would I order something that would seem a bit out of place in a diner?...probably not, because, for us, they are a diner (we do the fancy cooking ourselves). I would offer that some of the specials on the board look very good, though may be a bit too much food during the hours we're typically there. Service is just fine as well...we've never had an issue go unresolved. They do a nice job focusing on holidays and seasons with decoration and staff wear costumes on appropriate holidays...it is appreciated. Santa visits every Christmas. I can honestly say that this diner deserves 0 stars. Me and my girlfriends came here for breakfast yesterday. We got the avocado smash. It was disgusting! It may look good in the picture but it did NOT taste good. The avocado tasted sour and the toast was rubbery as if it was old. So I tell the server that we are NOT eating this and we DO NOT want to get charged simply because we did NOT EAT IT. Do you know what she said? If you don't get charged I will get charged. Are you KIDDING ME? She did not just say that! I was so upset! So I asked to speak to a manager and she told us if we wanted something else and of course our appetite was gone after trying this horrible avocado so we said NO. So finally she said of course I'll take it off your bill and sorry about that! That server should learn how to deal with the people she's serving. She was rude. While this place does nothing to really distinguish itself from any other of the many Diners in NJ it certainly does a good job of doing a decent job at everything. It is well staffed, well run, and the food always come out efficiently. Now most Jersey Diners have do one or two things really really well and I am not quite sure this place offers a signature dish like that. (If any Jersey Yelpers out there know of it please let me know. The Regular Burgers, Turkey Burgers, and Omelets are on par with what a decent diner should offer. The interior decor feels clean and new. What I use this Diner for when I am in Jersey is to phone in orders and pick them up.
