I'll start by saying the only reason I am even giving this two stars, and not one, is my long standing relationship with this place. However, having the majority of my visits here were nearly two years ago and late at night after a night out with my friends, I don't know if the ownership has changed, or if just I was a little two buzzed to notice just how bad this place is in the daylight. Me and my boyfriend went in for breakfast, and after finding another local breakfast spot that we had been enjoying recently, I insisted he had to try this place because it used to be one of my favorites. We walked in, and were the second table in the place. My boyfriend ordered a coffee and oj, to which his drinks were placed on the counter top and the woman behind the counter said "Here you go." I had to get up and get our drinks.... THAT was a first. You really couldn't come from behind the counter top to serve us our drinks? Seriously? And that wasn't the only time... I also had to get my own drinks, AND our food... Which brings me to the most disappointing aspect of the meal...The food. We got simple eggs, bacon, home fires, and I got a side of french toast. The bacon, under cooked, chewy, and just not what you want in piece of bacon (which I do respect that some people like bacon that way, BUT that usually something people will request). The home fries (which had always been a favorite of mine) we're cold, and a lot of the bigger pieces of potato were undercooked. The french toast, was undercooked and soggy in the middle. I understand that french toast is suppose to have that soft center, but this was just completely undercooked. The toast served with the meal was more like a giant crouton, and just crumbled in our hands when we went to break our bread to dip in the egg yoke. Not to mention, my boyfriends coffee was full of grounds. How do you own a breakfast diner and mess coffee up like that!? Just, a totally disappointing experience all around. My boyfriend was actually pissed that he even had to tip, considering our "waitress" didn't actually do anything to tend to our table except throw our food up on the counter and tell us we were "All set" and made us get our food and drinks ourselves. Unfortunately, considering there is another breakfast place the same distance away from me, I will never be returning here for a meal. "The Bully" is a classic. I know it best as purveyor of world-beating drunk food, but it's great any time. The meatball sandwiches are great, as is the chicken parm. The tuna melt had the potential to be gross, but was supremely delicious (but do keep in mind I was drunk). The chili when they have it is to die for. My vegetarian girlfriend proclaimed the eggplant parm the best she'd ever had. The cooks/servers are blue-collar and rude, just like you'd want them to be. Sports is always on the tiny tv, and both the retired-caboose environs and eclectic dining crowd provide plenty of atmosphere. I love the Bully. Walked into here after closing out Armsby Abbey and loved the place. Its a diner in every aspect you could expect. "Efficient" service, low prices, big portions, grease, questionable cleanliness & all packed into a real diner car. I also liked the no physical menu thing as we were able to pick what we wanted from the board & assorted postings on the wall above the cook-top area. The clientele is exactly what one would expect at a diner in a city at 2 AM. College kids, drunk people & other assorted transients. The only weird thing is that the bathroom is in a different building that is tucked off to the side of the place which forces you to actually go outside to get to. I had the bully which was awesome. The Boulevard is the epitome of classic diner car fare. Breakfast comes naturally, but they also have a dinner menu available with sandwiches, meatloaf, spaghetti, and other comfort foods. Of course, there are several flavors of pie, nearly always have blueberry. I'm not sure if this is the case, but this is like the diner car that has been in continuous operation since 1930 on Shrewsbury Streeet. They close from 12-2 on Sundays to clean but are otherwise 24 hours. Of especial note is the super amazingly fluffy Italian bread toast, which is the same used for the equally amazing French toast--try it just once before you get back to your whole wheat diet. Pancakes are big and fluffy, just a little bit crispy on the edges, mmm. The homefries (no hash browns) are hit or miss, but best when they're busy, imho. They take credit cards! On the other hand, the coffee is average, they don't have waffles, ham steaks are too thick to get super fried, but your egg will be cooked exactly as requested and they're liberal on the bacon. As a former college student in Worcester, I've been to the Boulevard diner more times then I can remember. Open 24/7, it's often one of the only places when pulling an all-nighter to get some food, or if you're just in the mood for some pancakes later at night. It is one of the first train-car diners in the country, and as such, does have a bit of older and "historic" feel to it. Parking is perhaps the worst out of any restaurant I've been to, with the only official spots being the street. Unless you're coming at some ungodly hour (ex: 3AM), you're unlikely to find a space and will probably wind up circling the block a few times. There is a nearby lot that's designated for the diner across the street which you shouldn't have any issues parking in anyways. The place is usually quite empty, but it's unlikely you'll ever be the only person there. That said, during a weekend morning or at "normal" weekday dinner, you're likely not find a booth (of which there are only about five). Accommodations are a little cramped, as can be expected by the size of the place, but you won't be banging elbows with anyone you don't know. The wait staff, as friendly and personable as they are, can be a bit lazy during the off times, often passing things to your booth by simply placing them on the counter and relying on you to get up and bring them back for yourself. Prices are reasonable, under most dishes in the $5-7 range and portions large enough that I often have enough to bring home and eat for breakfast the next day. Not someplace I'd bring a romantic date or a person you're trying to impress, but someplace I do enjoy going. read more

Neat little place but it's a diner-- don't expect nothing fancy. Want a chocolate milk? Glass of milk then some Hershey's syrup. Done. I was there once, sitting at the counter between two people I didn't know-- when their orders came out they both had comments: "I didn't order bacon." The first guy says. "Yah, and I did." Says the other. The waitress apologizes, then reaches onto the first guys plate (with her hands) and picks up the bacon and puts it on the second guys plate. True story. Don't listen to any of the 1 star reviews you see...We came here after a Halloween party last night and my husband has been raving about it, so I was excited to try it! We were able to sit right away and the waiter was great!! The selections they have are so good it's hard to pick and everything that was coming out to be served looked delicious! I ordered a Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream and a side of home fries and it was the best waffle I have had in a long time! My husband got the 3 eggs with corned beef hash and home fries and he said it was also the best breakfast he has had in a long time and that we need to go back more often! They even gave us Mac and cheese bites for free!!! Best toast and bacon ever and our friend got the Italian breakfast and ate the whole thing he loved it!!! Well, it's a diner - so expectations should be low. However, there are a few perks to this diner that I have not seen anywhere else. They make their own Italian sausage - and you can tell! It seems most of their Italian fare is from scratch. In fact, everything I ate seemed to be from scratch. I have had dinner, lunch, and breakfast and you gotta LOVE the homemade bread they cut fresh every time they make a sandwich, toast, or give out bread and butter. This place was horrible. I didn't like ANYTHING I got at all. Usually hangover food is anything greasy, I found the exception. A few problems.... 1. The seating is god awful. I went with 2 friends, 3 of us could barely squeeze into a booth. We're not massive in anyway. Overly cramped, and uncomfortable wooden benches. I get the "old school" vibe, and usually enjoy it. Again, I found the exception. 2. The service was terrible. No disrespect, but there was an elderly lady "serving" us and not only did the woman behind the bar have to take our order, she had to deliver the food as well. I love diners...I really do!! I have been to most diners in this area because of my love for them. You get great food (for the most part) for a great price and you can't beat the atmosphere. No, just no. Avoid this spot if you have any standards. Let me break down my experience. We got there about midnight, and there was quite a bit of people for the time, but we found a booth. There were three employees in there, a male cook on the grill, a druggie (will explain in a second) on the sauces, drinks and deep fry, and a waitress. They have a method of hollering across the restaurant to get things they want, which made the tiny diner a lot louder than it needed to be, since this thing looks like it's built into an old trolley bus. It took a second for the waitress to notice us, but when she did, she completely ignored me and went for my partner. Both of us were a little thrown off by that since her back was completely to me with full attention on him. Didn't bother me since I'm not the jealous type, and find it humorous that someone working in a literal roach infested bus attempted this. We joked about it after she left to holler our drinks to the druggie. Now, the druggie. I normally don't make judgments, however, when there's about 40 needle pokes in the veiny part of your arm (inner elbow) all fresh and bright, I have hesitations about you making my drinks and touching my food. But, I guess when you're in a gross late-night diner, someone missing half their teeth and still grinding them side to side is to be expected (I guess?). Well, the male was the most sane and normal, but he still fudged my order by making my sunny-side up eggs over medium. Luckily, since they yell to each other, I knew what was going on. What's funny is that the flirty waitress didn't come to tell me what was going on, or that my food had been delayed. Instead, a couple minutes later, she brings out my man's food, with my water cup sitting empty and with no intention to bring any food to me to hold me over. What made me audibly chuckle was her obvious discontent with the fact that the gentleman I'm married to said he'd wait until I got my food to eat (LOL, I just chuckled again). Well, I've got my food and the first thing I notice is the fact that the home fries I got were dumped all over my sunny-side up eggs to where the yolk was pouring out. I didn't get toast to just eat it and stare at my yolks, I got toast to dip into my eggs. When I pointed out the fact that my eggs were popped by the home fries, literally, I kid you not, the waitress said "Oh, that's how the home fries come." And she stared at me. Oh, so you're telling me that although it doesn't say it on the menu, if you order home fries, they automatically come dumped on eggs and covered in yolk. Got it, remind me never to come here again. The ONLY reason for the second star is the fact that the portions are GINORMOUS. If you are short on cash after the bar and you're looking for that big greasy (roach-infested) fix made by a druggie and a tatted cook, you know the picturesque sketchy diner, you are going to the right place, and will absolutely get more than your moneys worth. This place is right out of a Ben Affleck movie. A truly classic diner open in the 1930's. Normally I don't pay too much attention to the atmosphere, I'm mostly interested in the food, but you can't ignore it here. Red Sox fans talking baseball, wooden benches, the waitresses with thick Boston accents. I loved every minute of it! Top it all off with great food and winner, winner... I had a HUGE portion of eggplant parm which was very tasty. My friend let me have some of his omelet which he ordered with a litany of ingredients including olives, feta and broccoli that was phenomenal. The heaping portion of french toast was 5 bucks, and although it was undercooked, it was made with thick slices of french bread that were buttery, greasy, and awesome while being intoxicated. She did say it wasn't "as nice" as a high end restaurant, but she failed to mention it was in one of those old school diner cars. The seats were uncomfortable, the space was cramped, and the menu consisted of several college named omelets posted all over the wall. The Boulevard Diner has been a Worcester landmark for a long time. They are always open (24hrs I believe) and serve up some great breakfast food. Since they are on Shrewsbury Street (Worcester's Little Italy) they have a lot of Italian staples on their vast menu as well. Their meatballs are great and their Pasta Fagioli is wonderful. This place can get a bit rowdy on weekend nights and the line will almost always be out the door. I walked into the Boulevard Diner the other night to get a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on italian to go. Keep those eggs runny. they wrap it in foil and when you get it home its an eggy gooey "Thing" that has you sopping the yolk up with your fingers if you have to. The bacon is real porky and salty like the john and sons sausage and it makes the sandwich. That however is not the only reason why I gave it 5 stars. No longer will you head home and stare longingly into your refrigerator wishing that you had more in there than condiments. The Boulevard Diner is the answer to this question 24 hours a day. The establishment is small but that's part of being a diner, and I've never seen it too crowded to sit and eat. The food is amazing, huge portions great flavors (I'm partial to breakfast foods) and it's made quick. The prices are excellent for the amount of food you get. The last meal I got was about twice as much food as I could eat and I'm not one to ever leave food on my plate. If you need food anytime of the day then this is your place. I think its no frills, nice enough staff (that can very, and has) If you require table service for the booths, well, its more of a pass over the counter and come get it place. Found this small jewel of a place late last night. Upon walking in everything started off rocky staff was not tentative to me being there, I had to ask for service after another group walked in and got immediate service well so I thought. The guy that was on duty that day seemed frustrated about something. So I forgave them. Let me tell you about the delicious omelette I received. My omelette was every bit of delicious and had my mouth wanting more and the buttery toast reminded me of Waffle House. The home fries I prefer them to be more well done and normally served soft. 2 stars because the food was descent, however the service was HORRIBLE! The waitress was very rude and lacks the basic skills of a waitress. She rushed us to get our order in and gave an attitude. When the food was ready, she basically threw it on the table with no consideration of what food belonged to who. I asked for water and gave me a HALF filled glass of water with dirty finger around the rim of cup. Whichever waitress worked on the morning on 12/24/18 around 10:30 am need to be retrained/ take an etiquette course because that was flat out horrible. Boulevard is one of, if not the most famous diners in Worcester, justifiably so in my opinion. Some of this probably stems from its location on Shrewsbury Street, but this is not a tourist trap. Most diners around here close around 2 or earlier, but not Boulevard, who stays open 24 hours. Want a pork dinner, spaghetti and tomato sauce, or an Irish benedict at 3 am? This is your place. While I will say there are diners with better food (the home fries leave a little to be desired), Boulevard delivers on the overall experience. read more

Yuck, don't get the "mashed potatoes." In fact you may want to stay away from any lunch/entree as people who like this place seem to be eating breakfast. My wife and I stopped in for something quick and cheap, the server behind the counter pleasantly recommended the "Chicken Cacciatore" and I got it with "potatoes and veg." The corn I got was not yellow, but a yellowish brown and didn't taste good. The potatoes tasted like they were from a box, the texture in some parts were gummy and/or chewy. I inquired if they were made fresh. The server looked embarrassed and replied "no they're frozen." Good god. I told her they were "nasty" and she said "sorry." She apologized a second time when she gave us the bill. The chicken was moist but lacked flavor and the red sauce was noticeably oily. The steak and cheese my wife had wasn't bad.
