I've often heard my friends rave about this place. From their heaping ginormous portions to their deliciously stick to your rib, gooey mac and cheese. This place did not disappoint! How have I never tried Bourbon Grill? So glad I finally did! Got the Bourbon Chicken combo #1 with Mac and Cajun potatoes! Chicken was perfectly grilled and had such good flavor! Mac was good and not overly cheesy/greasy. Potatoes could have used an extra 5 minutes cooking. They had an uncooked crunch to them. No matter what I will be back, and soon! A true Denver gem! Unassuming and unpretentious, Bourbon Grill is one of the last remaining spots that hasn't fallen into the overpriced, hipster-driven economy that has taken over much of the city. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to have such an influx of exciting new places to eat, but the fact that this place has been in this hole-in-the-wall location (literally) for 15 years says almost enough right there. It's delicious, fresh, street-urchin food that's affordable and hits the spot every time. The chicken is amazing. You won't be disappointed with any of the side dishes - even the steamed cabbage is dynamite. Side note, they're moving soon to a new location that will have seating inside, but to be honest, grabbing a styrofoam box of food and finding some sort of refuge on their strip of east Colfax to eat is sort of half the fun. This is a Colfax staple and is definitely an interesting spot. It reminds me a lot of those fast food chinese places in food courts in malls where they take some chicken, throw it on rice, and then you choose what kind of sauce and they douse the sauce all over it. I went on a weekday afternoon on a day off of work. I noticed that there were many many signs warning you not to park in the Burger King and ample street parking. I also saw a few girls ignore the many signs, park in the Burger King and get a boot immediately on their car at a cost of like $100 or $200 or something... That's some expensive chicken! I also noticed several customers in line smoking weed while waiting to get their Bourbon Chicken, so apparently it is a good thing to eat if you have the munchies. I got the Bourbon Chicken which was served on rice and I got potatoes and mac and cheese as the sides as they sounded the best. It was definitely an adventure in eating carbohydrates. Everything tasted fine It gets a lot of hype, I can see how the experience is appealing to someone maybe a little younger than me as you get a lot of food for a low price, but I would rather have a smaller portion of something that is a little higher quality or unique. Beware, that they do not have any parking, but there's plenty of street parking, this is not an eat-in place, and it is not open on Sundays. This is literally a whole in the wall, but the older folxs who work there are always nice and the food is always good, so no complaints here. Now, on to the food, I've only tried the bourbon chicken plate, which is $9.26 and comes with two sides and rice, I always get the mac and cheese and cajun potatoes, honestly the mac and cheese is this creamy cheesy deliciousness that you can't get enough of. Fortunately, what this restaurant (shack?) does serve out its street-facing window is damn tasty food and lots of it for a tiny price. I've been to bourbon grill more than a handful of times, and somehow, it's always in winter. But you don't notice the cold nipping at your bones as you sit on their window-side picnic table (the only "seating" available) and chow down on amazingly delicious hot food. The chicken is a mixture of white and dark meat, deliciously charred in a slightly sweet and tangy bourbon sauce. There are lots of sides, from fries to pasta, but I always stick with just the chicken. There are even sandwiches. So go. Order food from a window on the sidewalk. Eat at a picnic table.
