We honestly did not have to wait long at all for our food and soju to come out, which was surprising for a Saturday evening. We shared The Boil with Asian Cajun sauce, which was perfect for two people (we had enough to take home as well). It came with a variety of items including crawfish, shellfish, potatoes, corn, and Andouille sausage. The snow crab was definitely the star of the show, but everything tasted amazing. I've only been in this establishment once but I ordered takeout 3 times. There's a good selection of other dishes from Pho to Ramen, so there's variety if you have a party that doesn't just want seafood. Now for the main reason why I went. Fresh crawfish. It's was passable. They're pretty small, and 2 of the 4 times I got a batch with a lot of debris in the crawfish boil bag. It wasn't unsurprising, it happens, but it did bother me that toward the end of my 4 pound bag, I can easily say there's a whole cup worth of debris. The final time I ordered takeout from there was because crawfish season was at an end and other places are not serving fresh crawfish anymore. This was my second time to The Asian Cajun and it did not disappoint! My husband and I split the loaded Cajun fries and their seafood platter. I loved the cream sauce and bits of seafood sprinkled over the top of the perfectly crispy fries. There's just something about fries at a seafood place! The seafood platter came with catfish, soft shell crab, and two types of shrimp. The standout for me was the popcorn shrimp dipped in their spicy Mayo-like sauce! I was slightly disappointed because I didn't notice as many Asian dishes as I felt they had the first time I came probably 5 years ago... noodles, ramen, etc. So perhaps they have a rotating menu. My poor BIL was up to his elbows in shrimp ickies and really tried to push through. We finally just ordered more of the headless, deveined shrimp so everyone could eat. Let's chat about this for a minute. We went with medium heat and three of the four of us burned our faces off. We switched to mild (the next step down) for the next pound and it was so very bland. A hint of garlic and citrus. The star of the show was lackluster. Mix the medium and the mild and I think you could have a good sauce on your hands. We tried the fried alligator and it was served in nice sized pieces but those pieces had next to no flavor. Their Cajun fries were yummy. Frozen French fries that I would eat again. We actually ordered a second basket of fries. The sausage and potatoes in the bags fine. A little mushy but fine. I didn't try the corn. We ended up adding a shrimp and garlic pasta to the table to fill up those who definitely didn't eat enough and it was served lukewarm with that similar blandness throughout. I'm not a huge fan of the house sauce though. It's got lots of flavor, but it's definitely different than Cajun sauce or even some of the sauces at all the other Asian places. It's for a unique spice combination -- maybe high on ginger? Mostly, I just don't love the big pool of congealing butter when you pour crawfish out into your bowl. Love it. What a unique concept for Denver! I love Asian, I love Cajun, and I love seafood. Off alameda, I've driven by a few times and had to give it a shot. We ordered 2lbs of crawfish (were actually more like 1lb) and it was bland; frog legs and it was overpriced at about $10.00 for small four pieces (it was kind of a joke) that was overcooked and dry; Korean riblets that were over sauced and too chewy; and last but not least sweet potato fries - that were just okay but was probably the best thing in our order. I understand cutting cost due to the pandemic but this order was just ridiculous. We try to patron small businesses but we can't come back to this place. They seem to be open for dine in and every other booth looks like they aren't being used but those tables have chairs upside down on the tables with the dirty legs up - not pleasant to see if we had decided to eat in. The place looks run down and dirty. Maybe just putting up a sign that says "Table Unavailable" instead of placing chairs would help and clearing some of the clutter. If you're looking for crawfish and seafood or other Cajun food - there are other places that are cleaner, tastier and worth the price you pay. read more
