We get a phone call from the restaurant around 630 telling us we missed our reservation , when our reservation wasn't until 7pm. We arrive things were fine, seated promptly drinks came , apps ordered . We were happy. Food comes all steaks are covered with STEAK SAUCE (A1) and we were very clear about 0 sauce ! 15 minutes until my first drink. Was it crowded? No, it was obviously a slow night with a full host of servers walking around and none seemed to want to even offer us water or even make eye contact. The meal was less than pleasing. I have eaten a lot of good meals and excellent steak in my life and this simply was average at best. The server was nice once we finally met him. First let's start with the pros: the exclusive Woodford Reserve Bourbon was outstanding. From there I don't have much else to say. The trout was bland. As was the fillet. Service was slow despite the fact that I counted 8 servers for 7 tables. We arrived a little early for our reservation and waited almost 15 minutes to be acknowledged after seated. If the place was busy I could understand but it was basically empty. To top it off they seated a couple right next to us in an empty dining room. This is my go to place when ever I travel to Morgantown. I have never been disappointed when eating and drinking. The almost heaven drink is iconic and truly an experience when it comes to mixology. Pepperoni rolls and my go to every single time I come. Get the Puskar pizza as well as the flavors are like a party in your mouth. Had the butternut squash dip and all I can say is "WOW". Reserved for the Mother's Day Buffet. I had reservations at 345 PM. We checked in and they collected the money before we entered the ballroom. We were then informed they were only open 15 more minutes expecting us to eat in that time. We immediately went to the buffet, every chafing dish was open and everything was cold except the roast beef at the carving station. The deserts looked like they came from a grocery store. I went to the table where we were checked in and complained about the cold food, the rushed service, and the lack of deserts. I was told I would be called back by the food service manager. I never received a call back, I also called several times and was never passed through to the food service manager or ever had a call back. The amount I paid for the 3 of us was over $165. We had a great experience. We made a huge mistake of not getting a reservation. Not in any hurry, we settled in the bar area. But much less of the time anticipated, we were seated and our waiter was very good. We had the pepperoni rolls, Brussel sprouts and crab cake for appetizers. All were delicious. I had dinner here with my parents after s very long and stressful day at work. Our meal was excellent! The hostess and waitress were very friendly and provided excellent recommendations. I started out with a glass of Santa margarita Pinot Grigio. I requested the filet medium rare with a side of Brussels sprouts and pale ale Mac and cheese. Oh my word, my steak was cooked to perfect, so juicy and flavorful. The sides were to die for! We finished with the butterscotch cheesecake and it was so delicious! We were staying in the Marriot for a family weekend get-together and decided to have our birthday boy's meal here. We were told that the restaurant opened at 5 pm and we were there promptly at 5. We had to wait awhile to be seated even though we were the only people in the restaurant. (There were a few people sitting at the bar.) Our server promptly took our beverage order and patiently provided samples of different beers for our beer-drinkers to decide their preference. All was going well at this point. We ordered the brussels sprouts appetizer and it didn't take too long to come out. It was delicious, but the serving size was way too small for the price. We waited OVER AN HOUR for our food - remember we were the first people in the restaurant and at this point there are only a few more people there. My son's steak, which was ordered medium well, was charred black, tough and way over-done. My husband's salmon was over-cooked, dry and even burnt on the edges, my chicken was so-so and the sauce was way too salty. The accompanying mashed potatoes resembled a thick gravy with a very weird texture like no mashed potato I've ever seen, and they were cold! We had to send back the potatoes and steak for a re-do and the manager came over to apologize and offer us free dessert. Honestly? We had a better meal at our local Outback Steakhouse the week before. To wait over an hour for mediocre food is just ridiculous. They get two stars from us. One star for the brussels sprouts and one star for the cookie skillet dessert. Other than that, this place is way over-priced and over-rated. Not worth your time. read more

This place is overrated and over priced coupled with terrible service. The menu is pretty limited. We started with the pepperoni roll appetizer, which came out burnt on the bottom. I ordered the prime New York strip. It was so salty I could barely eat it. Our waitress was no where to be found to refill my water, which was needed to wash down the salty steak. The braised greens and truffle fries were good but really not "shareable". Our service was terrible, spending over two hours there. For the price point I expected more. I would not return. read more

Perhaps my standards are high because my husband is a certified executive chef and former restaurant owner, but well prepared food should be the basic minimum at a place like this. We were on the road, and just wanted a good meal....he wanted a steak. We tossed around the idea of a chain steakhouse and decided to go somewhere a little nicer so based on the reviews we made 7:30 reservations at Bourbon Prime. We arrived a bit early and had to walk through the restaurant looking for the hostess station, passing 3 bartenders twice and finally returned to the hotel front desk to ask where it was. No one had approached us or welcomed us to the restaurant. After we were shown to our table, we waited about 10 min before our server showed up with water. We had already decided what we wanted so went ahead and ordered. I asked where the salmon was from and she said she thought Alaskan, farm raised, wild-caught. I asked her to check as I don't like to eat Chilean farm-raised salmon, and she wasn't certain of where or how it was sourced. After a few minutes she returned to tell us that it was Norwegian salmon so I kept that as my order. While we were waiting, the restaurant began to clear out - obviously the rush was over. Our appetizers took a LONG time to come out. My husband had the Caesar salad and I had the goat cheese stuffed dates. His salad was pretty much naked of any dressing except a couple lettuce pieces at the bottom of his bowl. The taste was average at best, but lack of dressing sent the salad into the poor range. My dates would have been the best thing we ordered if they had been warm and freshly made. They were room temp and the bacon wrap was soggy. I do have to say that the house cheese biscuits were very good. We asked for seconds on them because out entrées were taking so long. At 8:40, over an hour after we ordered, our entrées arrived. My husband had the 9oz filet ordered med rare with cheese grits, I had the salmon (didn't specify temperature). His first cut revealed the cold blue interior of a very rare steak. We flagged our server down and asked for his steak to be cooked more so she took it back to the kitchen. Not wanting my salmon to get cold waiting for the return of his steak, I dug in .....and was sadly disappointed. It was horribly overcooked, underseasoned, and even had crispy bottom where it sat in a hot pan for too long. I tried a few bites but it was just too dry. The grilled asparagus garnish on both our entrees should have been peeled for that price, as the lower stalks were close to inedible due to toughness. When his steak came back cooked to the proper temp it seemed smaller, showing signs that it had been rapidly cooked perhaps in a turbochef oven. Our server apologized about my salmon and offered to have it re-made. So now my husband had his meal and I didnt. I ate a few bites of his steak and tried the cheese grits which were undercooked with a starchy taste, and no cheese flavor. You don't need to be a culinary professional to cook grits properly. My salmon, when it came again was a little undercooked but I would much rather that than overcooked and dry. The manager, to give her credit, comped both our entrées but the point is that the whole experience was an embarrassment to the restaurant. We would have gladly paid full price for a well prepared meal and instead the restaurant gave away 3 meals. There should have been nothing difficult about our order, and the restaurant wasn't busy. We are still scratching our heads about why a supposed fine dining steakhouse pretty much got our entire meal wrong...or is that just standard for them? read more

FINALLY Morgantown has a restaurant in a class of it's own. The meal I had here was out-of-this-world. The Appalachian-inspired menu really hits the mark. I had Devils on Horseback, Mac-n-cheese, Brussel Sprouts and a NY Strip - all of it was beyond expectations. And the staff...the staff (especially Elise) was genuinely friendly and always checking to make sure we were doing okay. We had the 64 degree egg, charcuterie board, oysters, smoked potatoes, and crab cake -- all delicious. This was no doubt the best Marriott hotel restaurant I've ever eaten at, and honestly I shouldn't even qualify it like that -- it was excellent period. Our sever, April, was friendly and helpful, finding answers to a couple of tricky questions about the menu and rustling up some fresh wine glasses for us to take up to our room when we were done. 5 of us met for what I thought would be a wonderful evening at a new restaurant this evening. 2 of my party had been to Bourbon Prime before, it was a first experience for 3 of us. The entire experience started out well. 4 of the 5 steaks that we ordered were filets. As luck would have it, all of the steaks were delivered as requested except mine...pretty undercooked. Even the waitress agreed, and she took it back to recook. I asked my companions to go ahead and begin as I believed mine would be forthcoming and I didn't want their dinners to get cold. Surprisingly, it actually took much longer to get my filet back than the original order took for all of us...much, much longer. By the time my dinner was delivered, everyone in my party had been finished for some time. Most troubling was that our waitress completely ignored the entire party until after my dinner reappeared. To their credit, they offered to box my meal "to go" and comped it's cost...certainly expected on my part, but hardly the experience I'd hoped for when we'd arranged the dinner. Bourbon Prime is priced much more toward the fine dining experience that it is toward the above average experience, but I believe even Longhorn would have handled the issue of customer recovery much, much better, and I would have eaten with my group. read more

Really disappointing. We asked to seat 5 people at a 4 person table (not too out there, right?) and had a lecture from the manager about how it would cost him his job (fire code violation?) and his hands were tied and he and his staff couldn't risk their jobs for us. He could have conveyed the same concept 1000x more nicely. They were out of the bourbon we requested (at a bourbon bar!) and suggested Maker's Mark instead. Nothing wrong with Maker's but you go to a bourbon bar to try something new, not something you've had a hundred times . Bartender's bourbon knowledge seemed paltry. It took a solid 40 minutes for our drinks to arrive. We ordered a cheese plate, which had 30 pieces of cheese and 8 squares of bread...we asked for more bread and were charged for it....and brought 8 more squares of bread. Is wanting a 1:1 bread to cheese ratio so unreasonable ? We eventually stopped asking for bread bc they acted like that was so excessive and demanding. It took a solid 90 minutes for our entrees to arrive. Our poor waiter was very sweet but totally clueless about how to serve properly (forgot orders, gave them to the wrong people, forgot to pour water, forgot to take drink orders, not really knowledgeable about the food/restaurant). I had the biscuits and gravy, which were not good. (Looking through these reviews, another reviewer described this dish as inedible.) Biscuits were hard and dry and not improved by the gravy. I'm not trying to be mean but the fish really looked like a pile of vomit. That's what it looked like! Companion #1 did say his steak was good, and companion #2 liked her salmon. None of us ordered dessert because we were all so ready to be out of there. Stayed at the Marriott and thought we would have a quick breakfast. One of the children had the buffet, and both of my kids had a western omelet. The buffet was exactly what you'd expect (at holiday inn express). One omelet was loaded with salsa the other was basically empty, just eggs. Took them 26 minutes to deliver the rest of our food. The potatoes obviously came off the buffet and were cold. The toast wasn't capable of melting the butter I put on it immediately after delivery. Ordered 2 eggs over easy and received two hard eggs. Then to finish strong, the pancakes were sorely undercooked and left you with a mouth full of batter. For the amount of money they charged, over $50 for 3 people, I could have found a better meal at the McDonald's down the road. Won't be back... read more

Everybody who came through there passed by our table. The seating was not what you would expect from a place which positions itself as a high end restaurant. Kind of like Denny's seating.Our table was so small there was not a lot of room for the plates. The service was very good at the beginning and began to deteriorate after about 7 PM. We had a young man who really did a nice job. But the place got a large party of about 8-10 people and my server became theirs and I rarely saw him again. We wanted to pay our check and there was a lot of waiting while our server took the large party's order. Other employees saw us waiting for our check and did not have the common sense to come over and help us out. So, to sum it up, decent food, ambiance not great, not enough servers for a large party.
