The patio cover that came with the house I bought in 2006 had deteriorated a bit over the years. With water getting trapped, the pitch was off due to warping. Also, each year when I received termite check ups, they would treat and patch the fascia and posts and I knew it was on borrowed time. Then finally the gutters began to sag due to dry rot. Luckily the underside and all recessed lighting was still good. Shawn came out and gave me an great quote for the reroof and a list of potential extras. Originally thought to be a 1 day job, but due to the damage found, it became a 2 day project. They were able to finish it the following day, which I appreciated due to rain on the way later that week. When I got home after the second day, it was obvious just how much quality work was done. Plywood sheets, all fascia, all three posts were replaced along with an outstanding torch down reroof. He even managed to save my gutters, straightening and reattaching them. I basically now have a brand new back patio cover. While most roofers tend to shy away from projects that involve additional wood and gutter work, Shawn just said OK and delivered. This saved me time and money from having to call a secondary contractor. The entire jobsite remained clean for both days and the final bill with extras was well worth the price. Bovee Roofing was hired by my HOA to repair two skylights in my condo. My experience with Bovee Roofing is that they are unprofessional and impatient. From initial scheduling, it was unprofessional. The owner's girlfriend texted me to schedule a consultation, and there was a lot of miscommunication in the process. My HOA reached out to me, saying that the roofer would be coming out to adjust the tarps on my damaged skylights, insinuating that they would not need interior access. Bovee later confirmed they would need interior access for consultation to see the interior damage and determine a repair plan. On the morning of the consultation, I texted asking to reschedule, both due to rainy weather and also because I wanted clarity from my HOA on their process. Instead of being flexible and agreeing to rescheduling, the owner Shawn called me and insisted he come out that day. I was out doing my grocery shopping and errands when he called, but agreed to come home to meet him since he was so insistent. He said that he would be there in an hour and ended up being over an hour later than that (more than two hours after his initial call). He also told me on the phone that his girlfriend doesn't know much of what she's talking about when it comes to scheduling. When Shawn did show up, he refused to go on the roof to adjust the tarps due to the rain. I can understand because it's one of the reasons why I wanted to reschedule the consultation in the first place... He was in my unit for maybe five minutes and did not go in my attic to look at the damage caused from the skylight, which did not feel like a thorough consultation to me. When it came time for the repairs, they texted me asking if they could do the repairs the next day. I did not respond or approve because of a personal / pet-related emergency. I also would not have approved it because I had meetings scheduled for that day as I WFH. Not 24 hours after they texted me, they showed up without me having responded to their text or approved. They did not try calling. They also did not knock on my door prior to starting the work to let me know that they were there. Instead, my meeting was interrupted by the noise. My dog was recovering from emergency surgery, so the noise was disruptive not only to my meetings, but to her recovery. I also later found my back patio to be a mess (they did not clean after their work). I can understand if they were already in the community to do work, but they could've sent a text or tried calling again the day of, to let me know that they were proceeding with their repairs anyways. To show up unapproved and without so much as even knocking on the door, is inconsiderate, unprofessional and should be considered trespassing. Given a skylight is involved, I consider it a violation of privacy as well. Bottom line is there's absolutely no excuse for them showing up unannounced and unapproved. I think that is my biggest disappointment with Bovee. I did not choose this vendor since it was decided by my HOA, but I would not recommend them if you have the capability of choosing your vendor. read more

I called Shawn with Bovee Roofing to check out a leak that was comint into my house through our skylight. He came out the same day to inspect the leak which I appreciated. He found the leak right away around the skylight and fixed it with caulking for free right which I appreciated. That is a stand up guy to do that and says a lot about the business. I paid cash to Shawn Bovee for a complete new roof. The roof was guaranteed to be free of leaks for 5 years. He completed the work in about 1 week. After 18 months I had a severe roof leak that ruined my new stainless steel vent hood. I contacted Shawn Bovee and like another Yelp review stated, he insulted me and would not honor the warranty. I filed a complaint with the California State Contractor's Licensing Board. They came out and brought a "Roofing Expert" who reviewed Bovee's work. The investigation revealed poor workmanship that I had not even identified. This is in addition to my original complaint. ALL of these findings were cited in the investigator's report. Bovee disputed all of California State Contractor's Licensing Board EXPERT'S claims and fought them in the arbitration. The beauty is that California State Contractor's Licensing Board expert attended the arbitration hearing at no cost to me and testified to the accuracy of his report. ****Update- California State Contractor Licensing Board ruled in my favor. Bovee had to complete the majority of the roof repairs cited in the investigator's report AND he had to pay for a new range hood and the cost to install it. It's a shame that Bovee didn't do the right thing and honor his warranty in the first place. The entire process took quite a while with much aggravation and frustration. In the end justice was served. It just took a while to get there. ****** Update - I received my check from Bovee Roofing today as mandated by the State Contractor's licensing board with a letter from Shawn Bovee threatening me that he would not honor his 5 year warranty if I had a leak because another contractor had to fix his poor workmanship. This guy just doesn't know when to quit. For the record, if I have another leak I will call the State Contractor's license board and again they will force Shawn Bovee to pay for the work to be completed by a COMPETENT roofer. read more

Shawn Bovee came out on a Saturday to repair and replace some concrete tile on my new roof which had been broken by solar panel repairs. I found Shawn to be honest and conscientious in conducting his inspection of the roof tiles, repairing/replacing those that were broken, and sealing an area which had not been properly sealed by the original installers. On top of that, his estimate was very fair, and I now feel that I have a solid roof over our house. 5 stars for courtesy and service. read more

There was a yelp cite that stated the person had gotten a ruling from the Register of Contractors adverse to Bovee Roofing so I was skeptical. I called the Register of Contractors and they assured me the yelp statement was false. Shawn Bovee tore down seven skylights and rebuilt them. Excellent job. Very reasonable. His team did a great job, including replacing all of our fascia and about half of the wood in our eaves. Shawn will take your money and will do some kinda job, but if the roof will be still leaking - do not expect a warranty from him. He will use a profanity if you insist. The roof he fixed is still leaking where it was leaking before. I spent $6,900 on redoing the roof and new fascia. Stay away from Shawn Bovee! read more

I couldn't recommend a roofer more highly in Dana Point. I live in Niguel Shores and had a number of roofers come to estimate my needs related to a rock and tar roof that must be 20 years old with a small leak. Other companies bid to $6K for tearing the roof off and replacing with a torch down which turns out to be inappropriate given the minor slope we have. Bovee checked the roof and quickly identified a problem with flashing at the drain which we readily solved with some caulk and a few screws to channel the water thru the drain rather than into the wall. He's a guy with great skill at roof problem-solving, very reasonable in price, and a man of integrity. I don't think one could ask for more, and I've certainly seen a lot less in the others who bid on the job. read more

Started our re-roof today, with Bovee Roofing. So far so good, they came out, removed the old roof, cleaned up so well you would not even know they were here. About 8:00 PM, there was a knock on the door. It was Shawn Bovee. He was concerned that there was a 25% chance of rain, so to be on the safe side they were going to cover the roof. WOW!
