BLACK FOREST: my daughter picked this, likely because she thought it was a chocolate cake. But it was not your average chocolate cake. A good sized slice with moist cake, cherries, and dark chocolate bits throughout, I highly enjoyed this one. It's perfectly sweet - though I admit my daughter finished the exterior layer of frosting so the thin layered in between the cake were ideal for my taste buds. It was a bit too elevated for my daughter who only really wanted your regular chocolate cake. MATCHA CRUFFIN: This is a croissant-muffin filled with matcha cream, rolled in sugar. The laminated dough was packed so not like your airy-but-crispy-exterior croissant, nor was it noticeable buttery, but it did do its job by keeping its shape and the layers helped give its name. There were chunks of raspberries but I don't recall actual bits of lychee fruit in there, though you do get the flavor of it in there. We recently returned to Bovella's in Mountainside after a four-month hiatus due to poor service. While the service has improved somewhat, there's still room for growth. We had to chase down staff for coffee, which was a bit frustrating, but overall, it was a better experience than before. On the bright side, our order was fantastic--everything was fresh and delicious as always. However, one of the bathrooms was out of order, which was inconvenient. Hopefully, they continue making improvements, as the food quality definitely keeps us coming back. read more

I used to go to this bakery when it was in Westfield, but now that it's on Rt22, it's become even more convenient to go there! I've been going for the cookies (rainbow, jam filled, and sugar) and they are all delicious. So buttery and decadent. I also recently went for breakfast and it was reasonably priced for the serving size. Would absolutely recommend the french toast or just classic eggs and bacon. The espresso drinks are also so good! This area needs more of these places. A great place to go for the impromptu family breakfast. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff. We brought our 20 month old who decided he wanted to knock Mom's latte over. What a mess! Our waitress was pretty cool about it and helped clean in up in a flash, then brought a new latte. What can I say you won't be disappointed at either location. No matter what you get it will probably will be good. I haven't had every cake or cookies in there but I have the feeling they will be. The coffee americano is always good. This is One of the few bakeries around that continues to be excellent and a great place for a cup of coffee. read more

Just visited Bovella's this past Sunday for bruch with the family. It was busy at the time that we arrive and had to wait around 30 min.,but it was worth it. Every is so nice and helpful, very good customer service oriented crew. And the food was all delicious. Will return and I recommend trying this establishment. read more

We ordered a vanilla cake with Oreo filling for my son's birthday, and unfortunately it was dense, overly sweet, and overwhelming. I didn't see a single person finish their slice, and those who did take a bite to see if they wanted their own decided against it. We ended up cutting only about 10 slices, and more than half the cake was never even cut (and thrown away). For a cake that ended up costing $220 for 15-20 people, I expected something much better. I also did not realize until I saw my credit card statement the day of the party that the total was that high, and I was not told that the basic decoration/name would add another $45. I understand they are covering themselves by saying "may include fees" but for the basic cake If the cake had been expensive but delicious, I would have felt differently. But given the taste, the amount that went uneaten, and the lack of clarity around the final price, I would not order this cake again.
