If I could give this Bovio Rubino Service a rating of 0, that's what I would have rated them. I had a service contract (Platinum) since 2019 for $45.15 per month. They cancelled my air conditioning checkup scheduled for June 20 because of the heat wave and re-scheduled for July. Came home from a work trip to water damage and a broken tankless water heater. I called around and was able to reach Bovio Rubino after 10:30p and the on-call walked me through how to shut off the gas and water supply to the unit until they could come out the next day. They were able to squeeze me in to come look at the unit and declared it a total loss. I was impressed the serviceman called the manufacturer on the spot to ensure there was no active warranty (I assumed he wouldn't care because it meant more money in their pocket.) It was about a ~$178 fee to have them come out to diagnose which felt extremely high. The two people that came out were a bit cocky, though, and it was clear they didn't care and that this was just another job to them. It didn't completely put me off but the quote they gave me did. I got 5 different quotes from around town and they were the second highest, being more than $1,300 more than the others. They also apparently only sold Navien tankless water heaters (which I had but did not want to replace 1 to 1), and was given no other options. I guess they only want to replace the highest end option? I didn't appreciate having no flexibility. Based on the actual interactions that mattered most -- the attitude of those that came to my house, and the quote they gave -- would not use these guys again. read more

6/19/2023 1 Year ago paid $451. for a simple Compressor 2 Pole Contractor installation. Part went bad last week, called BR & was told would replace part free (within 1year guarantee +4 days) but had to pay service call $77. also. Agreed to quote & Jake came out but then bait & switch occurred. Now on site BR says I must also pay $198. labor fee plus $77 svc call or $275 total to replace the defective part installed last year. Called to have them come out for a clogged toilet. They had come out 5 days previous and unclogged it and said everything was ok and 5 days later the exact thing happened again. We called them and when they came out they said that it is a "chargeable" visit as they do not warranty clogs. My wife and I both though it was ridiculous that they would charge for a problem they said they fixed 5 days ago and voiced our displeasure but both clearly stated we would pay what we needed to as we needed the toilet fixed. The plumber, Steven, who came out was rude to both my wife in person and to myself from the second he showed up. After the phone call where I told the plumber we were not happy with being charged but would do what we needed to do, my wife said with the plumber went outside to make a phone call. When he came back in he told her they would charge the $82 charge for coming out and wouldn't charge anything extra to fix it. He intimidated her and told her the only way they would do that is if she payed the $82 right then and not after the toilet was fixed. As she was intimidated and scared and home alone with the guy, she paid. He said he was going out to get a few things from his truck and drove away. The toilet was still clogged!!!! I called the main office and finally got the manager, Jim, on the phone with me to tell him what happened and his response was "I find that hard to believe as I already talked to Steven and he told me his side of the story and you declined the repair." We are the clients, we never said we didn't want the toilet fixed, and my wife was made to feel intimidated and scared at our own house. Who would have a company come out to fix a clogged toilet and then elect NOT to have the toilet fixed???? I would NEVER recommend using this company. Our kitchen sink is clogged and I called Bovio Rubino Service for help. They stated that a charge of $77.44 + Tax service fee (Dispatching fee) will be collected which I agreed to pay. I asked for a quote over the phone in which the operator(Nameless she knows who she is) said they were not allowed to give since it needs a diagnose by the Technician. The technicians arrived and I stated what I have done but the sink it still clogged. The Technician stated that I need to pay ~$350. I asked if this is negotiable and he said no. Then the technician added that if I declined to the service I needed to pay $65 for them showing up. I declined because this was not stated in my conversation. So the technician played my recorded conversation and put pressure on me saying that I had to pay them. They didn't performed any work, the diagnose they performed was listening to me. No physical action from their part. Then they tried to force me to pay up. If you call this company get a quote no matter what service they provide or else they will take advantage and try to force to pay for service they didn't perform. I'm very upset with this company. BOVIO RUBINO - GOOD INSTALLATION/ BEWARE POOR FOLLOW-UP SERVICE I had a new Carrier Heating & AC system installed by Bovio in February 2020 and I was very pleased with the installation. I needed service on January 9, 2023 and that's when the problem began. While storing Christmas decorations under the stairs near the heater, without realizing it I must have hit the plug for the condensate pump. Later that evening I noticed the house was cold and when I checked the thermostat it was dark. I called for service and arranged for an emergency service call. The service person didn't call or arrive when I was told he would and I had to make a follow-up call. After the service person arrived it took him a few minutes to determine it was a problem with the condensate pump. He told me that the switch/outlet for the plug was not working and the total cost to replace it would be $411.84 ($117.00 after hours service fee and $294.84 to replace the switch/outlet - that included a $52.03 member discount). I told the service person that it was too high as the cost of a switch/outlet at Home Depot was less than $10.00. The cost I was then charged for the after hours service ($117.00 and troubleshooting fee $75.23) was $192.23 (including a member discount of $13.27). Before leaving the service rep hooked-up the condensate plug to an extension cord to get the system running. Because of the unreasonable cost of repair by Bovio Rubino, my plan was to call an electrician to replace the switch/outlet. But, before I did I checked the plug to the condensate pump and when I moved it around it would worked. I removed the plug, spread the prongs and plugged it back in. GUESS WHAT - the system worked and it still working. No repair was needed and I saved the almost $300.00 fee to replace the switch/outlet, which wasn't bad. When I called Bovio Rubino to express my displeasure with the service, I asked to speak to the service manager. Another representative of the company called me back, treated me rudely and basically told me "that's the way it is." So my message to anyone dealing with Bovio Rubino is to BEWARE of the incredibly poor diagnosis of the cause of heating/AC problems, the poor treatment for resolving problems and the outrageously high pricing when compared to industry standards. I'm now using a more reliable authorized Carrier dealer for my future service. read more

This review is basically a complaint on the cost of doing business with Rubino. When I called for service, I explained I just wanted the AC unit topped off with refrigerant. For 1# refrigerant installed, I was charged 395.00. It took the technician less than an hour to perform this job. What I found out later is that no HVAC company will tell you over the phone the price for installing one pound of refrigerant. If anyone has had this work done and has the price, please let me know. Had our oil heater stop working overnight. Since we have to keep our newborn baby warm, we called in the first heating service we found. The man who came out was a nice guy but he knew nothing about oil heaters. He tried a couple things but eventually surmised he didn't know how to repair a unit like this. He hard-sold me an appointment to replace the unit with something they were knowledgable about and then charged me $234 dollars for half-an-hour's worth of work. Granted, it was a Sunday so I understand the service fee but I expected a little more knowledge of oil heated units from a company this prominent in the area. Bought two brand new hvac units from Rubino. Bought top of the line Carrier Infinity series. The upstairs unit completely failed last year and Rubino did come out and replace under warranty. Now the downstairs heating control board went out. No heat for over a week. New control board is on "order" no ecd yet. I can order the part from Amazon and have it here in 4 days. I think because this part is under warranty I am no longer a priority. I already paid $300 for a diagnostic fee lasWhen the tech was at my house he indicated the Carrier rep disclosed known issues with the reliability of the control boards in this model. Why were they not replaced proactively or at least kept in stock? Poor customer service poor quality. Rubino's prior to the merger was much better. This is my third unit bought from them and my last. Go with another provider. Once installed you are on your own. If you do go with them, have a backup heat source, going to be a while before they get to you. read more

I called Bovio today to take care of AC problem that occurred due flooding last week. Claire was extremely helpful in getting me set up with a service man within hours, following what has been a very busy week for all contractors due to the rain damage. Bob Q came to my house and discovered that the wires were cut by Horizon to make the AC unit unable to run. Bob Q was honest and capable, and made the necessary repairs quickly without the $15,000 charges that Horizon was proposing for a new unit. Caution, I did not use this company, my neighbor did. However, Rubino decided to use my outside hose spigot without my permission. My neighbor (not Rubino) tracked me down later in the day to tell me that the spigot was broke/ when Rubino's worker went to turn it off, it wouldn't stop running? Meanwhile the sidewalk and entire front yard(s) were pooling with water. I contacted Rubino (they should've called me)....to make a long story short, their plumber went into the wall to find that our pipes were rotted. We asked him (Mike, owner) to please fix it (we offered to pay fir materials and labor)...he flat our refused? 25 years old Central Air died and I feared the worst. Several other companies would not look at it due to age. But Bovio Rubino came out right away. They sent a text with Jake Bair's picture to expect him for safety. Jake was great with fast diagnosis and found a way to work around by re-wiring the thermostat in order to butt around a defective switch within the condenser, which I thought was inventive. This kept the cost of repair to a bare (Bair?) minimum. Jake even did a complimentary health check and charge check. Jake was very professional and kept me informed along the way. Started this review and would have given 4 stars. Glad I decided to wait and see how everything played out. Do not recommend. Bottom line they take advantage of the season to jack prices up 60-75%. That's if you can get them to respond to you. This really disappointed me that I was able to find a more responsive local contractor to do the same job, once, and for 3500 less than their "discounted" price. My AC blew out on a 98 degree day this Sunday evening. The next day is supposed to be 100 degrees and in the 90s the rest of the week (which is a July 4th week so I knew it was going to be hard to find someone to come out and fix it). I also have young children and so I had to get the AC up and running ASAP. I called 15 local places on Sunday night, and Jake from Rubino's called me back and was at my house within an hour at 9pm (just as promised). I was beyond grateful to get such responsive service from a company I never did business with. Jake was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. He quickly diagnosed the issue, told me what needed to be done, and recommended the coils needed to be cleaned. He listened to all of my questions and provided me thoughtful responses. He absolutely did not try to up sell me at all but only was trying to help and provide good advice. Jake worked outside in the hot muggy night an got my AC up and running in less than an hour. He also offered some other very helpful preventative maintenance tips for my overall HVAC system and optimized the airflow settings in my thermostat to more efficiently cool the house. I will now be calling Rubino's for all of my plumbing , electrical, and HVAC needs in the future. Jake - thank you again. I see all these good reviews and my parents actually recommended Rubino after using them for 20 years, but we had an AWFUL experience, enough to warrant me writing this, and ONLY because they aren't making it right. Had they made it right, I wouldn't be on here wasting my time. We had rubino come out because our heater was making a loud noise, mind you it's BRAND NEW. They weren't clear at all about the pricing. THEY have an $89 service fee and THEN they charge you hourly on top of that to diagnosis (work not included). So apparently rubino technicians have PHDs in hvac, bc they basically charge close to $300 per hour, which most attorneys and doctors don't even make. They ended up telling us that they could temporarily fix the issues for $1100, but that we ultimately needed to replace our brand new hvac!!! Of course I stupidly signed the papers and paid him. After spending the afternoon and the next morning crying about having to possibly replace a brand new hvac system, I decided to call another service company. This company (Summers) came up with a $475 dollar fix to our problem and charged us $85 to diagnose and they actually fixed the noise, which was a matter of counterbalancing a part in the machine. Our service guy never did that. This was the whole reason we called Rubino in the first place!!!! HOW dishonest that they told us we needed to replace a brand new HVAC. They didn't even fix the issue that we called for, they gave us an $80 refund, which is disgusting, given the fact that they LIED and didn't fix the original problem. My husband is a small business owner, he would have NEVER treated a customer the way we were treated and he would have refunded ALL of the money, which by the way, we didn't ask for a full refund. At first I thought maybe our service guy just didn't know what he was doing, but after speaking with the very rude and combative woman at the front desk, and the way Angela handled the exhausting emails and not calling my husband to resolve and apologize- I have come to the conclusion they are bad business owners and extremely Dishonest. We should have stuck with Hutchinson or Summers. They not only lost one costumer but my parents and my brother decided they will no longer be using them either. And As I very clearly said to Angela in my last and very fed up voicemail to her, I will make damn sure that this gets out to whoever may use them or is thinking about it. We had a really great experience with the electrician who came out to fix an attic fan and some other miscellaneous items. He went above and beyond, and we were very grateful! Unfortunately, we also had a plumber come out the same day, and he was not helpful at all. We smelled sewage and heard a flushing noise. He barely investigated (very lazy) and told us that everything looked fine. We paid for nothing basically because a few weeks later, we called another company who identified a major crack in the sewer line. Would not recommend this plumber AT ALL. read more

The technician took my money and said I agreed to the price over the phone (unprofessional) and refused to give me the discount. They installed new ac unit 1 yr labor 10 yrs parts. Unit stopped working due to thermostat. Parts covered labor covered. Still charged me $160. They only honor warranty from 9-5 5 days a week. Thermostat went bad carrier will replace under warranty and pay them $150. To install it. They want to charge me $300 for labor to replace. I have replaced them before half hour tops. Lost heat in home. Called Rubino and they quoted $89 for service call but it would be waived if work was done. We agreed and a $985 part was ordered and installed. We were charged $89 service fee. Called Rubino and they said that they didn't charge another $89 service fee when they came back to install the part so that is what they meant. That is not what we were told. Expect to pay another $89 service/installation fee when you get work done! BTW - Checked cost of part and it was $400 (we were charged $985 ($500 to install?????). I would give negative stars if I could for this company. I called Rubino hoping to have someone give me an idea of what it would cost to fix my hot water heater. The woman never stated there was a service fee for coming out when I spoke with her. I specifically said I just needed an estimate and not service. A man shows up and speaks to my 16 year old son against my consent about my water heater. The man refuses to leave without payment claiming there was a service fee of $45 plus tax. I told my son that I never agreed to paying anything and the man needed to leave. In the midst of me leaving work and this man coming my husband fixed the hot water heater by resetting it. The man proceeds to ask my son to sign his iPad and leave paperwork of the cost to replace our hot water heater and other costs which range from $300-2300. After an absolutely horrible customer service experience, I would not recommend Rubino as an HVAC company to anyone. Customer service is what makes or breaks a company, and in Rubino's case you should run far, far away. We were loyal customers for two years, we even referred three of our neighbors to do their oil to gas conversions with Rubino, and then we were subject to the worst customer service I've ever encountered. For the backstory, we asked Rubino to service two furnaces, which cost $200. The tech found that there was something wrong with the first furnace, but said that it would cost an additional $200-400 to find out what was wrong. On the second furnace, he found that a battery tested low and refused to finish servicing the furnace unless I paid $65 for a replacement. I then had another company come out who were able to investigate and find the fault in the first furnace and service the second furnace, all for only $100. We were unhappy with having to spend extra to do what we felt Rubino should have, but we chalked it up to a fluke. Then we asked Rubino about a condensate pump which suddenly became loud to the point where we could hear it throughout the entire house. Scheduling the service call, we were told it would be covered under warranty. A tech came out, glanced at it for a second, said "It's supposed to be this loud", and left charging us $90 for the service call. We were shopping for two new HVAC systems at the time, so we mentioned these recent incidents to our sales rep, who said he would credit us these service calls. We decided to go with a different HVAC option, which Rubino didn't offer. I then received a call from a Rubino representative who was incredibly rude, chewing me out for not paying for the service calls. He badgered me from start to finish, accused me of being a lair and a thief, talked over me while not letting me get a word in edge wise, and was screaming at me over the phone despite me never raising my voice. No one, no matter what they did, deserved that kind of verbal abuse, let alone a loyal customer of a service company. We called to politely complain, explaining the situation, and the woman we spoke with instantly knew who the rep was that had called us to chew us out. She said she would pass along our complaint to Angela Rubino Hines, the owner. Angela called us back the next day and basically berated us some more. She was confrontational from the start, never apologized for her employees behavior, and made it out to be all our fault.
