Special Order - Fish Salad - This is usually a delicacy only for Chinese New Year. Call them several days in advance to order it.

This restaurant has been a Chinatown gem for decades. Simple food in a cozy, clean environment with very friendly and attentive service. Please support this wonderful San Francisco Chinatown local restaurant. After your meal, you can walk up approx 1.5 blocks away to Ross Alley to buy Golden Gate Fortune Cookies where you can see them make the fresh cookies if you're lucky! :0) As a child, our family often ordered the very special gourmet Fish Salad for Chinese New Year lunch among many additional orders. Despite it not even being close to Lunar New Year, it was a nostalgic delight to order this special dish several days in advance and eat it for dinner the other night. We also ordered Lotus Root Siu-Chow in advance as I don't think this is normally on the menu either. From the menu, we added on eggplant with mushrooms, seafood tofu soup and seafood clay pot. From the items we ordered, their dishes seemed to be on the very low salt and spice levels, you can add spices as you see fit. Thank you for the wonderful dinner and very friendly, attentive service. We look forward to trying more of your Clay pot items next visit.

This is a really good restaurant, I use to come here all the time when I was working in the financial district. The lunch specials were great. My favorite is the oysters and pork claypot. It is always busy here and sometimes we eat in the upstairs dining area. It reminds me of the restaurants in Hong Kong and Manila.

This place is awesome! Food feels authentic and scrumptious! The place is nice and clean, and the people are sweet. Wish my hometown had this food, but that just means I will be coming back! 10/10

We went here since the restaurant I wanted to take my friends to next door was closed. Big mistake. It is grungy, the service was brusque and the food was bleh. Won't make that mistake again.

Closed as of 10/17/23. Unknown whether temporary or permanent.

It's been a really long time since I've dined here in person, guessing thirty plus years. Before a number of neighborhood spots in the avenues opened that specializing in clay pot rice, this was my family's go-to for that. We used to come here weekends or weeknights after school in my grade school years. It was mainly traditional Cantonese cuisine with their signature menu dishes being ones made in a brown ceramic clay pot. Over the years, their reputationcontinues for those and especially their clay pot rice. Shorty before March 2020, I noticed that a familiar waitress who worked at another restaurant around the corner from workplace. Having walked by a few times in November, the building had scaffolding and the businesses were closed during that time. On the Tuesday after Christmas on a misty late morning, I walked in. I was the only customer and chose a table on the right. After a quick study of the menu, I ordered the rice noodle with beef soy sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=6oVl5-voVHF4Pzn2hbUWHw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); on other menus it would be listed as beef chow fun, dry style or, in Cantonese phonetically, gon chow ngow ho (sorry, not familiar with using the Chinese character settings). The ingredients are basic with the beef, the wide flat noodles, bean sprouts, and onions. They did this very well as the smoky wok flavor (wok hei) made this dish shine. I tend to enjoy my foods on the spicy side so I added a large dollop of red chili sauce to pair with each bite. As I alternated between bites of this plain and with chili sauce, I learned that the plain was my favorite, better to enjoy that smoky flavor. About halfway through the meal, it started raining and a young couple with a dog wanted to dine here. The waitress kindly asked whether I minded the additional fur guest and I said no. As I packed up to leave, I glanced at the dishes on their table and noticed they ordered the same noodle dish that I did. The waitress was kind and helpful in telling me to let the teabag seep before drinking and offering refills. Sadly, I learned the familiar waitress happened to be off that day. In studying the other parts of the menu, I noticed the clay pot rice is still available. I asked her and confirmed that there are still two sizes for this though the menu only lists one price. Being a workday, I knew time wouldn't allow me to have this. Will hopefully return with friends on non-work hours or order to take home next time.

Farewell to Yelp..There was a group meeting to have dinner at Bow Hon in Chinatown..there was a night market event..we ate a full meal and it was for old time's sake..thank u..if you could eat this meal every day...why not? fried rice veggies walnut shrimp...old traditions don't fade out

Very nice people, the service was amazing. Not sure who the chef was but he greeted our table and asked how the food was. Amazing authentic food. Would recommend to anyone visiting SF!

I dined here for dinner during the Chinese new year festivities. The place has nice decor. I ordered orange chicken. It came hot and crispy. Flavors were delicious. Thank you, Maggie for the warm hospitality.

I've never noticed this restaurant but my cousin had her wedding rehearsal banquet dinner here and I liked it a lot! There's a hidden banquet room upstairs which has about 5 tables upstairs. We had an 8 course meal which included: 1. Roasted chicken: Felt like this was a bit dry and needed garlic sauce or something. I didn't really like it but it also wasn't terrible. 2. Sweet and sour pork: Sauce was delicious and perfectly fried but there were a lot of piece that were straight up fat and had no actual meal. 3. Honey Glazed shrimp: Perfectly cooked and awesome sauce. Maybe I haven't had Chinese banquet style food in a while but the portion size seems a bit small for banquet style. 4. Roast Duck: The sauce was the best part of the dish. I actually poured the sauce over white rice and it was SOOOO good. The duck itself was also pretty good! I wish it had the buns and hoisin sauce though! It would have been perfect. 5. Mixed Chow Mein: Pretty good! Perfectly cooked noodles and very filling. 6. Gai Lan: Perfectly cooked and not to salty or soggy. 7. String beans: Loved the crunchy beans. Again perfectly cooked and seasoned. Beed was also good and tender! 8. Fruit desert: Such a creative way to present fruits! The grapes were also insanely sweet! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, service was great and efficient! They brought out each dish very quickly all within 10-15 mins of each other. Did a great job combining plates and making room.

Classic clay pot restaurant, solid clay pot with the crispy rice on the bottom, pair it with favorite soup and vegetables for a good meal.

We wanted to try Chinese food in Chinatown on a recent trip to San Francisco. This hole in the wall is in the heart of Chinatown. You never know what you're going to get as a tourist. We went based on pictures on the window of the restaurant. It was cold and rainy, and we wanted soup. We were happy with the food we ordered. We ordered the Hot and Sour Soup for $7.50, Sesame Chicken for $9.95, and splurged on Peking Duck for $49.95. It was the standard Americanized Chinese food. The hot and sour soup was thick and rich and served nice and hot. The sesame chicken was all white meat with a gooey sauce. And the Peking duck was nice and crispy and served with green onions and a hoisin sauce. You make little bao sandwiches with the meat, sauce and onions. We ordered rice on the side. Everything was enjoyable. It was a good meal. I took off a star for ambiance. It was a little dingy and dated. The service was standard.

We ordered the kumquat umeshu highball and the lemon oolong highball and really enjoyed, quite refreshing. We ended up getting the small squab, lamb skewer, Mapo spaghetti, and eggplant. I liked that they had a small squab option which was perfect for two people. The meal started with complimentary cucumbers and peanuts snacks perfect paired with a drink. Everything was delicious but if I pick a favorite, I think it would be the eggplant. The lamb was very tender and flavorful. It's a small restaurant so I would probably only come with 2-4 people. I think you can walk in but the wait seemed quite long so I'd try to get a res. I wish it was easier to get one or I'd be back more often :)

Servers were friendly and accommodating. Food came quickly and dishes had beautiful presentation. We shared the chili crisp pig head, clay pot rice with Chinese sausage and bacon, scallop vermicelli, and XO escargot with milk bread. I enjoyed the free bites of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. Chili crisp pig head was good but got a little too oily immediately. The slices were really thin and there were a bunch of good textures from the chili crisp and the veggies but was a little heavy due to sitting in plate of oil. Clay pot rice didn't stand out to me that much, the tong ho on top helped cut the heaviness at first but there were only ~5 leaves so it ended up being a little too saucy and heavy. I also would've appreciated more toppings in the clay pot rice and rice also didn't get scorched despite leaving it there for most of the meal. Scallop vermicelli wasn't bad, but definitely felt overpriced for essentially 1 piece of scallop and 3-5 bites of vermicelli. Last, the XO escargot with milk bread was unique but also ultimately too oily. The escargot sat in a pool of oil/butter/fats which got a bit too much too. I will say the flavor was definitely there though and the texture of escargot was good. The milk bread was great, smelled fresh and sweet with a soft crunch. Overall I think it was a fun experience to dine here and no regrets, but none of the dishes stood out to me too much in particular to where I'd be running back.

Stopped by Palette Tea House with The Kid after FoodieLand thinking we were just coming for tea... and ended up having a full experience. We sat at the communal high-top table in the center of the restaurant, which has a small pond built into it with little goldfish and even a tiny rubber duck sitting on the rock formation -- such a cute detail and definitely adds to the ambiance. Our server Ken was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended the Iron Goddess tea, which ended up being excellent. The Kid ordered the Milk Aroma Oolong, which surprisingly tasted almost like milk tea even though it's just brewed tea. Each tea comes with its own kettle, and Ken even came back to refill the hot water for us. For food, we ordered the Wagyu Beef Fried Rice, which was a huge portion and easily shareable. Very flavorful and well prepared. We also tried the Sichuan Seafood Dumplings and the Iberico Pork Dumplings, both of which were delicious. One order is definitely enough to share. The dumplings come with several dipping sauces including soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, hot mustard, and a cilantro-based sauce that had a slightly sweet, horseradish-like flavor that really stood out. Service throughout the meal was amazing. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately. As a Michelin-recognized restaurant for 2025, it definitely felt like a special treat and lived up to the experience.

This person who took our order asked if there were any allergies, I said soy and her eyes lit up while she calming asked, 'soy-sauce', and I list soysauce and all the soy things that fall in that umbrella. I order my item, the chicken wings and item to share: the pan-fried dumplings, while my partner ordered one of the noodle soups. She comes back later and points out that the noodle soup has soy - much apperciated because people sometimes share, etc. And I said it was just for my partner. -- The chicken wings were plump, crispy, the first two were 'heathly', didn't taste the salt, and the rest were packed with flavor. If you're looking for consistency there is a #1 spot in Chinatown for chicken wings which I will not disclose in this review. But, otherwise, for flavor - I like it here. My partner said he didn't find the ones here oily but I said the bottom ones were a little and I did enjoy it. The panfried dumplings - the meat was succulent and delicious, I didn't think there was enough soup, these ones are smaller than other places, but the meat is massive. They were good, not my favorite ever, but I think the meat was the best hands-down anywhere. - It was very busy with perhaps locals and tourists. The table on our left were these two white men in the architeture field - super vulgar and sexist talking about people they don't like, it would defintely be an HR red flag. And then to the corner on the right, there was this little family who hadn't had soup dumplings before - the grown kids ate with their hands and the parents with forks (I love to see people trying new things), I didn't see all of this going on but I asked my partner who kept looking over.. Yes, my partner was judging you but kudos to trying new things however it is. - For large parties - you'll have to wait awhile.
